Deleto Maximo In how far is this different from, or better than, other installers within the same price range (e.g. AdvancedInstaller)? Could the developer please point out some unique/exclusive features?

Judging from the screenshots I get the feeling that this installer is made for semi-professionals or amateurs, not for pros. Then how come it has such a massive price tag? I could be wrong here, though, so some clarification would be much appreciated. I'd also like to know if BRIB allows the installation of prerequisites such as the .Net Framework 3.5 or 4.0 (both via external download + included msi).

Thank you very much!

Erica Brescia Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for your questions. I am a bit puzzled, this is the first time our product has been described as being targeted towards amateurs :) The majority of our customers are enterprise software companies, though We also have video game developers, universities, etc as clients. You can check out a partial list of customers at:
http://bitrock.com/custom...ustry.html

Regarding a comparison with other installers, if you are targeting just Windows, then there are plenty of other installers, some of them free. Where InstallBuilder shines is when you need to target multiple platforms (Linux, Windows, Mac are the typical ones), since it saves you a lot of time, especially with complex installation processes that require interaction with the end user.

We have posted a comparison with our primary competitor, InstallAnywhere:
http://installbuilder.bit...rison.html

We include ready to install modules for the Java runtime, and if you email our support team, we can provide you with examples for installing VC++ runtimes or .NET (those will eventually be made standard bundles)

In summary: InstallBuilder is great if you need to support multiple
platforms. If you only need support for Windows, then there are other solutions that are equally capable.

Best regards,

Erica

Deleto Maximo Erica,

thank you very much for your prompt reply. I had not had the time to evaluate the product, so I only judged by the screenshots, which look very clean (and hence my implication). Though, I see now I was wrong and your product does a very good job of covering the details under its hood.

I have so far been developing for MS .NET but am considering working more with a platform independent solution (e.g. Java), so a "language-agnostic" installer would be just what I need.

Thank you very much for the link to the comparison, which I had overlooked on your site.

This is a product I will add to my watch list as it looks really promising.

Thank you, again, very much!

Steve Chopping Select the item from this page, which sends me to an https://www.cleverbridge link. This page has the product listed with a default X1 amount plus an annual tech support/free upgrade item for $3.74 extra. Fill in all the credit card details, account address, etc and after clicking NEXT it just dumps me back to a screen saying your cart is empty!!!

Gonzo I must say I'm impressed with the product.
I haven't tried it and won't be able to buy it (cannot afford it); however the feature set is amazing, and I've always wanted to see an app that could create multi-platform installers!

Also, I want to say Congratulations as well as Thank you for offering this for free to Open Source devs; it's a great initiative that most companies should follow.

I hope I can try this product soon...

Erica Brescia Denis,

InstallBuilder is actually very reasonably priced when you consider the amount of time it can save developers and when compared to the competition. For example, a standard license for InstallAnywhere is $1,999 and that doesn't even include maintenance, which you have to pay at least $800 extra. By comparison, a Professional license of InstallBuilder is $1,395 (outside of this promotion, of course) and includes one year of access to all new releases (including major releases) and email support.

InstallBuilder may make sense for your particular situation, but it has helped companies all over the world to provide a better installation experience to their users while reducing their support burdens.
