What are people saying about Bitrot Detector

Bruno Verschraegen Hi folks at Domador Software.
What are the EXTRA features of the paid versus the free version of Bitrot? Same for Two-Click Reminder? Maybe I overlooked this, but i could not find this on your website.

Craig User I'm wondering this too.
Oct 26 2016 at 5:42am Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Good question! Here are the differences between the free and the paid versions of each program. (I'll add this information to the website.)

The paid version of Bitrot Detector lets you...
- highlight scans and/or mark them as reviewed.
- highlight individual folder/file scans and/or mark them as reviewed.
- hide empty categories in the scan results window.
- create more than 5 scan profiles.

The paid version of Two-Click Reminder lets you...
- edit/reset existing reminders.
- create/edit recurring reminders.
- customize the time intervals in any of the buttons. (For instance, to change a button from "5 minutes" to "3 minutes".)
- set reminders at a specific, exact time that doesn't correspond to any button.

BDJ Archive Thank you Constantin Florea. Now the links are working just fine. Have a good day :)

Andres Cabezas Hi Peter. Bitrot Detector doesn't currently provide for resizing its text. The need for better accessibility (including flexible/customizable font sizes) is on the feature list for future versions. Others have previously requested the ability to change the database location, and that is yet to be implemented as well, in a future version.

Chris Why won't the Two-Click Reminder minimize to the taskbar?
Oct 29 2016 at 7:37pm Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Hi Chris. Two-Click Reminder is designed to minimize to the System Tray, rather than the Taskbar, in order to avoid cluttering up the latter. There is a page on TCR's section on the Domador Software website that indicates how to customize the notification icons in the System Tray so that the Two-Click Reminder icon is always visible.

That being said, maybe allowing Two-Click Reminder to minimize to the Taskbar instead of or in addition to the System Tray would be a good option to provide. I'll probably include it in TCR's next version, sometime in the next few months.
Domador Software - Oct 30 2016 at 3:23am Copy Link
Chris Actually I meant the system tray, lol. All I have is an X on the ribbon and it does nothing when I left click it and closes the program when I right click it.
Oct 30 2016 at 2:12pm Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Which version of Windows are you using, Chris?
Domador Software - Oct 30 2016 at 9:21pm Copy Link
Chris Windows 8.1 64 bit
Oct 30 2016 at 10:19pm Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Unfortunately, I haven't tested Two-Click Reminder on Windows 8 or 8.1, nor do I currently have access to PCs with those OSes. Minimizing to the Taskbar will hopefully be a suitable alternative, once it's implemented in TCR.
Domador Software - Oct 31 2016 at 8:58am Copy Link
Chris That is not a good thing, not being able to test your own software in a OS you show you support. I did purchase it during this promo as I liked the idea. I do have a program that minimizes windows to system tray so I can still close it to there and have it run.

One question, if the program is closed will it still show the reminders or does it have to be running down there?
Oct 31 2016 at 3:59pm Copy Link
Andres Cabezas The main Two-Click Reminder window doesn't need to be visible in order for reminders to display at their appointed time. However, the program does need to be running in the background. You can press the (Windows Key + Z) key combination to see if the main TCR window comes up (which would mean that Two-Click Reminder is indeed running). If that key combination is used by another program, then you can use the Task Manager to check and see if TwoClickReminder.exe is running.

You're right in that ideally I should test my programs in all the supported Windows versions. I'll need to increase my testing budget in order to obtain Windows 8 and 8.1 licenses.

Heidi-Ann Kennedy-Fourkiller The "Fine Print" reads:
1.Bitrot Detector is licensed per computer, and not per user.
2.Each license allows installation on all owned computers, and Bitrot Detector may be used at exactly the same time on each of them.

That is a contradiction. One is stating per (1) computer and the other (2) user.
Jun 13 2017 at 4:48am Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Hello Heidi-Ann,

Does the fine print you mention refer to Bitrot Detector's EULA? If so, I'll clarify that each user gets two options for using their license key:

Option 1: One computer. Register Bitrot Detector on one computer and everyone who uses that computer can use it.

Option 2: One user. Register Bitrot Detector on several computers, as long as only one person uses it across those computers. (In this case, using it at the same exact time on multiple computers would be OK.)

It would be a contradiction if they weren't mutually-exclusive options.
Domador Software - Jun 13 2017 at 6:37am Copy Link
Heidi-Ann Kennedy-Fourkiller I still think it's a contradiction. Beside how would you know if someone else is using it on my computer,. . . and then there is the fact that the program is registered to BitsDuJour and not to me.
Jun 13 2017 at 10:53am Copy Link
Andres Cabezas Hi Heidi-Ann,

Though the license key's name says BitsDuJour User and not individual users' own names, you and everyone else who received it as part of this giveaway have every right to use it. In any case, I trust my users to do the right thing, and give them two licensing options to give them more flexibility while also being fair to me.

Please let me know if a different kind of licensing option would be better for you, and I'll consider it the next time I review and possibly revise the EULA for newer versions of Bitrot Detector. Thank you also for trying out Bitrot Detector.
