Nebulous User Although I have nothing to compare this against, I like it. I've never used another screen recorder, but I've thought of times when it would be useful for me.

Installation and registration were simple. When I started up the program, it was immediately easy to see how to use it.

I recorded about 6 minutes of my work and then watched it. Good. A little choppy, but I suspect that just means I need to tweak some settings. There are plenty of them.

All in all, seems like a useful little program with an easy interface.

mystuff 53 It works great, the quality isn't as high as I'd like, even at the highest setting, but it's very easy to use. The only problem is that when I try to record audio it picks up all kinds of feedback - at a much higher volume than the sound it's recording. Is there any way I can get a better audio recording?

Sarsfield Great little program! There are several tweaks for audio and video that I'll have to try out to get optimum results but my first video was pretty good considering the fact that I had no idea what I was doing. Thank you so much Bits and Boilsoft (great name) for this great little but powerful program!

mystuff 53 Can I please get an answer to my problem with the audio recording? All I get, whether I record from a microphone or the speakers, is just a lot of static with a very very faint recording of the sound in the background. Not even loud enough to understand, even with the volume set at highest setting.

Does anyone else have a problem with recording audio?
How can I make this work?
I appreciate this product, but it doesn't do much good if the audio won't record.

Did you make sure you turned audio on? You have to click the Record From down arrow and click the check-box to record audio. It is not on by default.

James K Download and Installed w/np on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with 2GB RAM, works easily. Simple, but understandable interface.

No MAJOR problems.

Only three points.

MINOR ISSUE:
As someone else has pointed out, the default audio level is low, though I think I can change that. Also, the sound of my netbook's fan is much louder than my voice, though I may have not spoken clearly or directly toward the microphone. (I only mention it because it's apparently a problem. I assumed it was me.)

SEMI-SERIOUS ISSUE:
As someone else also pointed out, the video recording is not as high quality as I would like. The characters on the screen are a little dark and fuzzy, even with a full-screen playback. This needs to be fixed if the author wan't people to use this for anything they will share with more than one or two people, and before he has any hope of selling this to a professional for work that will be seen by other professionals, or customers.

SUGGESTION:
I like the auto-minimize and the auto-minimize-to-tool-bar functions, but I'd like to also be able to hide it so that it is invisible to the recording, showing up in neither taskbar or icon tray, possibly showing itself as a blank icon if you use the Alt-Tab window switcher. I'm sure that you want this to be a little bit of subtle advertising for you, but both home and professional users will likely want something that does not intrude into the recording, and an Icon does that.

mystuff 53 Hello, thanks for replying, but yes the record audio is turned on. It records, but what it records is the background static of the computer with only the tiniest fraction of the actual audio stream, whether it is spoken into the microphone or playing over the computer.

This really needs to be fixed because what good is the program if you can't hear the audio playback?

Sarsfield mystuff 53 I'm really not sure what is causing your feedback issues. There are so many factors that could be screwing up your sound from drivers to hardware. I would suggest contacting Boilsoft directly and include your hardware/software set-up. Maybe they could help?

J P I did test recording of my screen. The software crashed after about an hour. I have 4gb RAM. When I checked recording it showed 65 minutes but after 30 minute it kept showing black screen (no recording).

In my laptop with 3gb RAM, it crashed after an hour too. When I checked recording after the crash, it was 8x to 10x faster with no actual voice just static.

small recordings worked fine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

mystufff 53 I tried every single setting on the audio settings, after checking the box by record audio. Most of them gave no sound at all, one gave a whole lot of static. That's all I can get. I tried contacting Boilsoft but the email wouldn't go through.
So - it works for short recordings of silent screen, but that's not even close to what it says it will do.
Not happy.

GrandMaster I got this deal last time. Then, when I needed to record a video, boilsoft screen recorder refused to launch because the "giveaway" license file was time-limited and I had to hunt the internet for a different app to do this.
I verified the time limt of license file by deleting the license from registry and boilsoft recorder launched perfectly.

I contacted them and in a day or two they gave me a new license key... which also expired some months later just as I needed to record my desktop, which left me without a screen recorder once again due to expiration of a lifetime giveaway.

They gave me a third key, but I gave up on the app and the company.

eb235 What exactly is a "registration limit" ?
From the fine print :
"After you purchase Boilsoft Screen Recorder it may be used indefinitely." = no limit
"Each license allows installation on a single computer and a laptop." Since transfer is allowed. not a real limit...
"You must install/register the software within 30 days" = a real limit but why buy now ?
"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product." = definitely not a limit
... unless all this does not apply to the free deal.

David Coleman Every time I try to open the program I get an error that says ScreenRecorder MFC Application has stopped working. Then choice of check online for a solution and close the program or Close the program. If I check, then the program closes.

Michael Martelli On the software receipt with the registration code, it includes the following 'Registration Name: Screen Recorder'.
So, I tried entering that as the Name, instead of my own, and it worked.
So, you have to enter 'Screen Recorder' as the name (not your name or the name you use that it registered it to).

Quill Pen I love giveaways but hate how many poop out when you need to use them several months later. Just lost Playclaw (another screen recorder) and it's really getting frustrating! Wish all vendors provided an on-line account system to verify you as a registered owner so you can reinstall if a registry key gets muggled. Can't imagine any business model telling vendors that silently expiring a user's registration will win credibility or loyalty.
Note - this has happened quite a few times on another giveaway site (the one with that cumbersome security wrapper) but not on Bits, at least to my knowledge.

Retired Engineer Tried to place order with two valid email addresses I use daily. Getting "Email not valid" rejection on both of them.

This problem has occurred before, and fixing it would be greatly appreciated.

Software Babe I use Audials Mediaraptor v11, MAR 2014 @ $14.94 and it was for a lifetime license. I do believe I got it here at BitsDuJour.com. IT IS THE VERY BEST SCREEN CAPTURE TOOL FOR VIDEO I HAVE EVER USED AND/OR TRIED and I have tried them all!

I use it to download The Walking Dead Episodes the day after they air on a private website. It is easy to use and it does more than just screen capturing.
5 stars for Audials.

I do not buy nor do I try LIMITED version software that is given away, no matter what website offers it.

Sarsfield This software may not be worth the free cost. The previous copy I downloaded the last time had the same problem David Coleman had above. I decided to get rid of it and it seems this software likes to hide itself from program like Revo Uninstaller so I had to use the uninstaller installed with the program and surprise - it doesn't really delete everything from the PC so I had to hunt around for registry crap, etc. Not worth it to me to have to deal with devious and/or sloppy programs.

I installed it in January. It did not work the MFC error".

Same thing, again now.

There was ananotherBOILSOFT program I tried to install, it did, but then a week later, after working correctly, it refused to recognize that it had already accepted my registration and aske for a valid registration, then refused to work.

BOILSOFT may have good software, but they need to tighten up and deliver programs that work ALL THE TIME and do not cause grief!!

Edward Symons I went to run the program so I could register it and got a "Torrent" message window that said "An internal exception occured (Address: 0x0) Please contact supporttorrentrockyou.com. Thank you!". Yes, occurred was misspelled. I am running windows 8.1. I sent them an email but have heard nothing. Has anyone else seen this?

Installed and registered easy peasy. (as has been said above, you have to copy/paste the words Screen Recorder (not you name or Bits') and only copy/paste the entire reg key AFTER you make sure it's on one line, not broken on 2 lines where there is likely to be a hidden carriage return or space.
Launched fine and the GUI looked very easy to use and set up. (some screen recorders assume everyone's a professional at this) I would prefer labeled buttons (not alt text, LABELED) and a record button that isn't RED, but that's just moi.
Choosing a region of the monitor was especially easy and is the setting I most often use.
Recorded several tests.... with mic, without mic, with cursor, without cursor, diff frame rates.
End result: It took a great static picture of the monitor region but failed to copy ANY motion and failed to append the audio.
Back to the drawing board.
PC Specs - Vista and everything - RAM, graphics card, etc - to run every other screen recorder we've encountered right out of the box and simultaneously copy graphics intensive games and software and audio overlays (albeit not always perfectly.)

Ron I'm getting the same mfc error as D. Coleman. The program installed correctly and let me enter my registration just fine and said it had to restart and after restarting, now it gives the mfc error each time. Any help would be appreciated.

Software Babe CamStudio records the entire screen UNLESS you know exactly (you can draw around the box) what area you want to record. It does not always work well for capturing videos and ONLY the video. So if you are on a VOD site, you will be picking up the entire web page with the video.

Whereas, Audials records ONLY the video screen in whatever format you choose beforehand on ANY website and with any video (IT ONLY RECORDS THE VIDEO OR AUDIO, IF YOU PRE-SELECT THAT). I then, can convert the .avi video file I chose to .m2ts for playing thru my Samsung Smart TV using Mezzmo (DLNA thru my own home network), which I also purchased here at BitsDuJour.com at a discount.

ricoh flex It failed to run. Boilsoft software is not reliable.
MFC error.
Had to uninstall.

Cam Studio & Ocam are much better.

I have used Cam Studio to capture videos in selectable region and the resultant video outputs are excellent.

I hate Audials. Too intrusive and it tries to take over your computer.

dojistar Do not install this program. This program started automatically from a hidden file the next day (April 1, 2014) after an uninstall by COMODO Programs Manager on March 31, 2014 of all Boilsoft programs on my computer. It was discovered by COMODO Secure flagging that ScreenRecorder.exe stopped running unexpectedly…but it had been uninstalled the day before. Process Lasso’s Log Viewer notes they are starting from folders that were supposed to have been removed and are now HIDDEN.

The problem appears to be with a file that was downloaded with it called bsscreenrecorder-March2014.exe

I found and removed Boilsoft file extensions entries in my Registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\boilsoft\Boilsoft Video Joiner
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\boilsoft\Boilsoft Video Splitter
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\boilsoft\screenrecorder

If BitsDuJour or Boilsoft Systems would like the Lasso Log Viewer CVS file, the COMODO GreekBuddy Issue Tracker report, etc., contact me. In my opinion, this is a serious issue.

Lou Perry Same problems as Dave and Sarsfield, but I may have discovered why. The company website lists as a system requirement "Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or later Runtime"; now I am noticing that BDJ does in fact mention this also - duh :-\

Still, I am not going to to install DirectX (unless needed for another screen-rec) nor try this software again. Its uninstaller claimed that Revo Uninstaller was now a part of it and therefore also needed to be removed. Sarsfield's comment thus made me laugh out loud and now I'm pretty sure that it was not my use of Comodo Program Manager causing this.

Just uploaded the installer file (bsscreenrecorder-March2014.exe) to the IOBit Cloud which calls it "safe" (perhaps for shits 'n' giggles will also send to McAfee or somesuch).

Nevertheless I am deleting every file and folder I can find on my system containing "boilsoft", vowing never to let another one creep in, and doing a scan.

To Cary R., the .exe you mention is in fact the installer itself, but thanks for your note as it served as a reminder to re-check my registry (issues included 28 ARP's from this one program) with a standard cleaner as, on this occasion, CPM was a fail.

dojistar Lou Perry’s comment made me recheck my data. The COMODO GeekBuddy IssueTracker error message that came up this morning did not refer to an issue from today but from yesterday when I had problems installing Boilsoft Screen Recorder. There is no time stamp on GeekBuddy’s error messages. The Process Lasso error messages were dated March31 when the problem installing the software occurred and not April 1.

I can no longer find the hidden folders and did not take images of what I thought I saw.

So, let’s assume that my only problem is that I could not get the program to install.

Richard Received the email just fine
Downloaded just fine
installed just fine no error messages
Will not run, you can see it starting in the services, it sits there for a few seconds and then closes. No error messages at all, it just goes away.

The first install went to where I usually install my programs. After that did not work, I uninstalled it and tried letting it install to the default location. Did not make a difference at all, still the same behavior.

joe salerno installed and registered fine on Win7-64 but doesn't record audio. I will need to look at the help file a little later but is anyone else having such a problem? Also only records at 15 fps. Not very good for video capture. I believe an earlier version I had would record higher frame rate. The earlier version was a great little program, wish I had installed it on a box with more video muscle. This version seems weak by comparison.

ricoh flex My past experience with Boilsoft software products has not been good.
Reading all the reviews by users who tried to use this giveaway, shows that the program coding is below expectations.
Generally I stay away from any software products under these brands:
Boilsoft
SuperEasy
Tenorshare

In a marketplace where there are stellar competing products, it is tough for Boilsoft to survive.
I paid for a software called Snagit and it is stupendous as a screen recorder.
In addition, there are Freeware screen recorders that are very good.

William User So, the about section shows the software as being registered to BitsDuJour, with no way to enter the registration code emailed to me. Does this mean the software is pre-registered without the need for the registration code? If so, you could make this simpler for others who are looking for a "Register Button" as the help file suggests under the Buynow>Register and Buy entry in the contents navigation pane.

Will not save settings because there is no provision to save the user chosen settings.
Always return to default.
Default is no audio record.
Cannot remember output folder.
Although tick AVI, will not put extension avi into filename.
Troublesome to use.
No blink cursor of region to indicate frame.
It is amateurish.
This is much worse than many free software.
Cannot compare to Bandicam.
Very Very inferior to the best screen capture software - Snagit.

jman Downloaded and registered fine. Tried it briefly and looks good. The only thing is the GUI is very small and can be difficult for anyone with even minor vision issues. I can't imagine any reason why it should not be resizable; At the most basic, a user should be able to drag on the frame and enlarge it. That said...

joe salerno Reg process is a bit confusing. Better instructions within the program would be helpful. I did not find the needed info in the email, but it was received promptly. I have the reg code. I right click on the program and it says it is registered to bitsdujour. No place to input the reg code. What does this mean? Is it registered? If not how does one input the reg code? It would be ironic if the code was received promptly and not needed. I like this program, have used it before on another box, and have other boilsoft programs, and would like to buy this one but I am wary of the confusing reg code process.

not every vendor in these giveaways can get a reg code to you so quickly, so I must congratulate boilsoft on that. In fact, there are some who never get the reg code to you at all! Bravo Boilsoft!

Allan Winston This is really weird. Windows 7 Home Premium. First tried to install the version I obtained in a 2013 promotion, not realizing the time limit for installation. I uninstalled that version and obtained today's promotion. Whenever I install it, everything looks good. When I try to invoke the application, the file screenrecorder.exe disappears so it cannot be executed.I have watched the subdirectory before and after execution. It is as though the program deletes itself!

I found the reason it would not install. I have Nxview for 64 bit. I had to uninstall it and re-install the 32 bit version. After I did that, Boilsoft Screen Recorder was able to install. Apparently, there is no version for 64 bit.

Ant Dude After trying this program in 2 different very old, updated 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 machines, I found it is very old from 2010! Look at its installed file dates! Even its installer file is that old. I tried recording online YouTube videos, and played back my AVI recordings. However, they had no audio and were very choppy. Also, note https://www.boilsoft.com/screenrecorder/ says "Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/ Windows Vista/ Windows 7" for its minimum system requirements. Very old and no updates for newer Windows. I'd down vote this and give it a 2/5 rating. Also, it wants $49.95? Ouch! Not even worth it for free! :(

Jerry Voletto The registration window is at the very bottom of the windows that pops up when pressing the red button on the right side of the main screen. I had to pull the pop up windows all the way to the top of my screen to be able to see it.
Yes, if you don't register it to "bitsdujour" with the code sent to you, it will expire in 30 days from installation. And, you only have 7 days from the download to register the program.
Try grabbing the top of the pop up window and drag it to the top of your screen. Hopefully it will show you the registration window. There are 2 options - register and buy now. Use the register tab.
Good luck. Let us know if you can get it to record your screen. Mine doesn't.
