If you're not familiar with Amazon S3, here's a quick tutorial:

Amazon.com's Simple Storage Service (S3) provides customers with a "simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web." Amazon S3 is intentionally designed with a very minimal feature set, and is not intended to be accessed directly. That's where Bucket Explorer comes in.

S3 data is stored in units called, "buckets" and Bucket Explorer provides an elegant user-interface for exploring and managing the buckets in an S3 infrastructure. You can use it as a simple S3 FTP tool, an S3 backup tool, and more.

gail f I was considering using Amazon S3. Doesn't it come with a user interface? What is the advantage of purchasing software for this? Would love to hear others' experience. Thanks

Yes, Amazon has recently added a web based interface for some basic management of files on S3 and yes, there are cheaper tools available in the market.

Bucket Explorer is a "power tool". There is no other tool which provides all the features of bucket explorer. It can reduce your s3 management time by "a lot" as it can run 100s of parallel threads. It also does MD5 checksum on every transfer which is not even done by Amazon S3's own console - a browser upload just cannot do that.
All transfers are on ssl by default, which most other tools avoid.

So - summary - it can make you very much productive by doing things FAST - fast and FAST, every transfer is secure and every transfer is checked and rechecked again to make sure that the data is NEVER corrupted in transit.

Nico Westerdale Sauradh, I have a quick question too, we use ASP.NET here at BitsDuJour and have just converted the site over to use Microsoft Azure and Azure Blob storage. Would you consider making your product work with any Blob storage?

Jerry S I have a licensing question. You state: "Licensed per user for concurrent use, allowing transfer of a license to another owned computer." Does this mean I can install on my main and laptop computers at the same time, though each would be used separately at different times? Or does it mean it is licensed to one computer, but I can apply to transfer the license to another computer? At the price, it is not worth the cost of two licenses, one for the main machine and a second for my travel laptop.

Some of the language in the license text was crafted by a laywer, so may be confusing - here is the "intent" right from the developer, which we have listed on purchase page in simple language too:

It's one license per "person". So, if you have a desktop and a laptop and a netbook, you can install it on all three. Its not per machine.

Bucket Commander, the command line tool however is "per machine", because that is intended to run unattended as a process on a schedule.
