Steven Avery Hi,

The AMS website is nice, the Business Card Maker site is ok, it would be nice to know more about the company. Where ? Who ? The price for a dedicated biz card maker is fine after the discount.

What I would like to see is a comparison with some of the best of the genre, especially Cam Development, Mojosoft, others. Not so much the popular ones, like Proventure or Broderbund, Avanquest (some of this info might be dated).

Also simply the experience of some of the users.

It is rare for any of these companies to have forums, which would help.

I will say that in my experience a dedicated biz card maker is the right way to go, rather than a desktop publishing program that has biz cards as one feature.

Jim McGowan Does this program have the ability to print on commercial business card paper, like Avery for example, by selecting a template by its product number? Similar to MS Word's Label & Envelope template selection dialog? Or are you required to purchase special paper from AMS? Print on cardstock after laying out manually?

The web site says compatible with Windows 7 but Windows 8 is not listed. Is it Windows 8 compatible?

Knight I ordered it about 15 minutes ago and got my key a few minutes after...

I didn't try to print but I have Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and it seems to work perfectly (I would have been surprised if it didn't, Windows 8 is not that different from Windows 7).

It looks like it shouldn't be a problem printing on Avery paper since you can play with margins and the spacing between cards...

The current version supports several common paper sizes: A3-A6, Letter, SRA3, SRA4. Support for Avery cardstock will be included in the next version. It is possible to adjust the print layout varying the margins, spacing, and bleed.

Mister User Question: Their website shows three versions of their product.
Personal - $29.00, (1 computer)
Enterprise - $39.00, (3 computers)
Studio - $49.00, (5 computers)

Can the 80% discount be applied to any of the above, or is it strictly for the
Studio?

Note: few, if any, visitors to this site are going to need to have this application installed on more than one computer, so it would just be overkill, aka... waste of money.

I would be interested in purchasing the personal version at 80% off, which would be $5.80.

I already have two other programs that I can use for business cards.
1) Microsoft Publisher
2) Print Shop Deluxe

(I even have another app specific for business cards, but it is garbage, so I won't even mention it's name)

So, I don't really NEED another business card app, but I like variety.

I wear a lot of different hats, so I print 'short run' business cards from time to time.

Please let me know which versions would be covered under the discount.

Nigel Brewster @_*_ why don't you just buy it for a few quid and use it on one machine? It's cake to use and a wonderful program.

@Lesley - I bought the program a few months ago and I can't get to my regular laptop, I know I could of put the program on here, but just haven't. Are you saying that there is an upgrade to that program and can use it on 5 machines?

Mister User Let's just be honest about this deal.

AMS Software replies above, that in addition to being allowed to install on 5 computers; commercial use is allowed. This is just a 'red herring'... no company that prints business cards, would purchase a one trick pony app, (it only does business cards), whereas they print dozens and dozens of different items.

So, for 99.999% of anyone purchasing today's offering, they will actually be getting a 66% discount, NOT 80%. ($9.80 is approximately 66% off $29.00). Probably should have just listed it as such.

I haven't decided yet if I will purchase. Actually, I would have been more inclined to purchase initially, if it had been priced as above.

Ironically, I am confident that the vendor would have made more profit here today, by offering the 80% across the board, for all three versions.

There are just different types of license: Personal is a license for one computer, not allowing to use the output commercially; Studio offered here today allows commercial use and can be installed on 5 computers.

Nigel Brewster I disagree with that Mister User either you haven't tried it or you don't know what it's capable of. I need it on more than one computer, the reason I haven't is that the machine I'm using now is almost dead.

You can build flyers and all sorts with this program, you can custom sizes. I've built a website http://dunelmdesigns.co.uk/ which I'm trying to get off the ground. I personally don't like programs that do a million things and they don't do every one of them well, this does more that the one and it does it superbly.

So you have the Enterprise license. It allows commercial use, so you don't really need another one then unless you have more than three machines of course.

I wish they would allow at least two on their others higher models - Like Photo Collage Maker Pro and Smart Studio Deluxe.

I have a few questions:

1) Are there areas to fill in for your online info: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.? I did not see that in the video. IF not, can you suggest how this can be added - perhaps using other fields.

2) Can you make the image any size you want in case you want to print larger size cards than the regular standard business cards?

3) What formats can you save the image in? I'm thinking that this could also be used to create images for online promotional pieces.

Lesley Knight Hi Roz,
1) There are default fields for website and email. Should you need more fields, open the Design menu and click Add Text. You can add any number of additional text blocks this way. It might be a good idea to add those fields on the reverse side not to overload the front side.
2) You can actually create custom size business cards. In the startup wizard, there are a few standard formats to choose from, but there's also the Custom Size option where you enter your own dimensions.
3) Output image formats are JPEG, PNG, PDF, and TIFF (RGB or CMYK)

One other question: if you add the social networking sites, do you add you own icons for the social networking sites, or are they included in the program, or would I just type the name of the site and my handle?

I'm afraid there are no icons for Facebook etc. in the current version (but I'll forward this to the project manager and we'll hopefully add those icons in the next update). However, you can import any image of your own and use it in your design. Social networks icons in various sizes are easy to find on the Web, so I guess you'll have no difficulty creating your extra fields.

Bizz Mark Question, the free trial download shows a virus through Virustotal.com

Rising PE:Malware.XPACK-LNR/Heur!1.5594 [F] 20160405

Apparently the last scan 2 weeks ago was clean, but today Rising shows the above. I don't know if it's a false positive or not.

Lesley Knight @ Bizz Mark Thanks for letting me know! In fact, we're receiving a false positive from Rising for a couple of our products. But contacting Rising turned out to be a huge problem. They stopped support for its English website and only operate in China now. They don't reply to our emails either. We've contacted VirusTotal team recently asking for assistance, so I hope they'll help us reach Rising in some way. But apparently we can't do anything about it right now.

Bizz Mark I submitted the link to Avira as a suspected file or possible false positive. They have inspected the program and found it clean. I've purchased and installed without problem.

However, here is the link to their Customer Service. This was in the receipt you received, it was in mine. There are two emails that come. Check them both.

SKY I have just purchased this sw and they sent me an invoice and the download link, but the line where it says Key: is blank and below it says, "You can see the key also on your invoice". On the invoice it says: "We were unable to get the key for this product." What gives? If no key, any refunds?

The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite. This is likely to be caused when the server needs RC4, which is no longer considered secure.

Steven Avery Over the years I have used Business Card Designer by CAM. A good program. You may have some nice advantages in certain areas (your template area looks good). It looks like you have some of the same nice features of ease-of-use with the data and placement. So it is a GO at this excellent price.

I am a big fan of the better quality dedicated Biz Card maker programs. Have tried a number of them, hope you will be a keeper.

Lesley Knight @ M Be Yes, the Studio edition with 550+ templates is on sale here.
If you are not sure about the naming, the Enterprise edition was designed for corporate use (e.g. when a company needs to make lots of cards for the employees) while Studio is aimed at design studios that make business cards for their customers.

Lesley Knight This means that you previously installed a trial version of this software. If you wish to check out the free trial, the only way is to install it on some other computer. If you already purchased a license, you just need to register the software using the license key sent to you after your purchase. There's an Enter Key button at the bottom of the screen you mention - that's where the key goes. Steven Avery What is the version number? I have #9, but not the Studio, which I always try to compare with CAM (where I have an old version).

It's version 9.15. I would strongly recommend upgrading to Studio if you need a large selection of design templates - there are more than 550 of them in the latest Studio version. It also lets you make double-sided business cards (not available in other editions).
