Dennis Bijlsma Hi Daniel. Our current payment provider is iDeal, which is not very well known outside the Netherlands. PayPal support will be added in 1-2 days.

Nelson Therrien On what criterias are the results?

In the screenshot provided here, it shows a warning for the meta keyword tag... OK, it's not used by Google, but may be used by others AND doesn't cause any harm to Google...

I tested it on one of my site, which validates perfectly well in the HTML and CSS Validators, but not in your software. I had Localization warning to put the title tag after the Content-type meta-tag (which Dreamweaver puts in that place automatically) and the warning of an alt attribute missing an alt text on an image (which, again, is perfectly valid: I putted the alt="" attribute, which means the screen readers will skip it and the W3C will validate... An image that we don't want to be "seen" by screen readers, it's perfectly valid to do that. Yes, I could also only put it as a background image (which is not even the result given), but it's also valid to do it that way).

Dennis Bijlsma Good questions Nelson. CheckSite reports things that might need your attention, but this does not mean that you should always aim to have 0 warnings.

Let's take the meta keywords as an example. Google, Bing, and Yahoo all no longer look at these. If you target other search engines, that's fine, and you can leave the keywords in. But most people don't know that meta keywords are ignored by Google, and this warning might save them time in the future.

The same applies to empty alt texts for images. Usually it's a good idea to provide an alt text for search engines, and for screen readers. In your particular case it's acceptable to leave the text empty.

So again, CheckSite's output are not necessarily things you should fix. In some particular cases it's perfectly fine to leave certain warnings as they are. In fact, if you use CheckSite on colorize.nl you'll find that we have warnings as well :)

Marco De Luca Just purchased CheckSite and start loving it. It might need some finetuning here and there (e.g. an empty line in my robots.txt resulted in a "empty robots.txt", pointing at the empty line at the end).

However, if the fine folks at colorize keep up the work on this, it will be very handy. There is a much higher priced similar product out there, which produces so many false messages (and lets some real errors slip through), that this deal is definitely a bargain.

Steve Wright Looks good. Would one license cover my Mac at home and my PC at work?

Michael R. Is it possible to exclude certain warnings from being shown?

I suppose it would be quite annoying to check html-code generated from a program and have all these warnings, which you most probably won't correct, because the non-perfect code will be there as soon as you make some changes in the your program and regenerate the html-code new.

I think, it would be great to allow users to generate profiles, which would allow to exclude certain warnings from being displayed. So only the relevant warnings would be displayed.

I did not check the demo, so perhaps you already have a mechanism like that!?

Dennis Bijlsma @Steve Wright: Yes, you can use the same license key for both Mac and PC. You can also use CheckSite on multiple computers using the same key.

Dennis Bijlsma @Michael R.: It is possible to disable/ignore certain checks from the preferences menu. However, currently not all checks can be disabled, but we will extend this list in the next version.

As for opening external editors: it's on our roadmap, but this would only work for static HTML pages. If the HTML is created from PHP/Java/etc. there is unfortunately no way for CheckSite to know what .php corresponds to what page.

Victor User I ordered this application 24 hours ago on Oct 8, and other than a Paypal receipt for my payment I have got no license key or serial number from Colorize, not even a link to download the paid application. I see the Bits du Jour administrator was on line 11 minutes before I posted this (see above 2 comments from him) so why can't he send out activation instructions?

I really hate to charge things back on Paypal but will if I don't hear anything more from this company.

Constantin Florea @Victor. I am sorry you did not receive the activation information so far. I have just contacted the vendor of the product to help us solve this issue.

Dennis Bijlsma @Victor H: Could you email your Paypal receipt to contact@colorize.nl ? We can send you your serial number and download link, but we need your email address to locate your order.

VLM Hi, I just wish to make sure that I understand clearly. Our web sites are hosted on Linux servers at multiple ISPs. Our work is done largely on Windows machines, though a Mac may be in the future. A portion of our content is developed in Joomla, a portion in WordPress, and a portion more manually. I have, at present 3 people in Windows machines who can "do something" to our sites, and as I said above, probably. one more coming on Mac.

Given this configuration, your write-ups (web pages, above, etc.) do not provide me with sufficient information even to begin to think about what your product might do for us. I'm not even sure with what question(s) to begin. Dennis, can you help a bit here, give me some point on which to anchor further exploration?

Thanks!

Dennis Bijlsma Hi! We provide a 30-day trial version, so I think the best way for you to learn about our product is to try it for a while. You can download this trial version from http://www.colorize.nl/en/checksite/ , this page also contains some more information and screenshots.

VLM Well, Dennis, honestly, I feel disappointed by this response from you. I do believe you could have provided something more constructive.

I think it might be helpful, in the future, for you to consider that these BDJ promotions operate by encouraging people to make decisions fairly quickly. Vendors, who respond with a strong presence during their respective promotions, tend to fair better than those, who do not. Just FYI.
