Chris Why is this a subscription based program? Something like this should be a lifetime purchase. There are alot of duplicate finding programs out there and this is the first one I've found to be a rental.

Thanks.....

Peter Thompson I agree with what people are saying. A better model would be that after 12 months the program still works but you won't be able to receive any updates. That's how most general programs work.

Kenneth Bates I also agree. There are scores of duplicate finders out there, so why have to pay again even if the program has not been updated? It's not as if you have to provide a regular service, such as anti-virus and similar programs.

Please look at the opposition, see what they are offering and if your program has extra bells and whistles - tell us about it!. I know that you are offering the program for free today, thank you for that, but if I try it and want to come back next week, there's absolutely no way I would pay again in 12 months for exactly the same thing!

Don Wilcox I installed it but when I inputed the registration key it said I had a wrong key or wrong email address. I verified both. Still get the error.

Also, when I first tried to register the input block was labeled "registered to". That suggests a NAME not an email address.

Don Wilcox I can't get the program to register so I can't determine which version I got, but I agree with gigi bibi and Peter. If a company needs to use deceptive techniques to get folks to try/use/buy their products it makes me wonder abut the company and the product. And yes, I realize hundreds, probably thousands of companies use deceptive techniques and I still use their products but that does not make the deception any more palatable.

It completely does not make sense unless just to extort money for the continuation of the license-purchase for further assistance.

Kenneth Bates @Don Wilcox, @Andy Taub
I have had this problem many, many times on here and have come to the conclusion that most programs are written for 32-bit systems. I get the same result when installing into Win7 x64 but if I then have the patience to try on 32-bit Vista they load OK and the registration key works. it's about time some developers got wise to this.

Jun 1 2014 at 7:30am Copy Link

adamsdaddy Due to the fact that the program won't install - I was motivated to poke around on BitsDuJour and came across http://www.duplicateclean...sions.html which does offer a free and Pro version. It installed without a hitch on my Win 8.1 64 bit PC and is extremely quick. I told it to scan an external drive and folder, which contains 36,000 files and it did so in a little over one minute.

I would suggest checking out the above.

Eric Swank Only software companies that need staff and programmers to update the program continuously for security purposes should have any reason what so ever to lease or rent. Big turn-off for many customers is to see an attempt to milk them at regular intervals especially when their are so many free programs such as CloneSpy ==> http://www.clonespy.com/?Download

SKY I downloaded from the vendor's site, which seems the same size as through BdJ (only has a "_June2014" added to the name of the .exe file) and it installed relatively without a glitch and also registered the same, although, each time you start the app, it wants to phone home which is not good!

Apart from that, I agree with others who say this program should definitely NOT be a time limted one but a lifetime version. And some might agree that MAYBE, a free giveaway COULD be (but really ought not) time limited, there is no other option on their website, either. So, this is their standard practice, which is another minus point.

Finally, yes, even AFTER registration, the BUY PRO link remains active on that window and when you click on it, it takes you right to the website asking you to pay for the FULL version @ 19.99. So, I wonder, if this installed version will turn Trial again after 15 days or so. If this happens, the vendor should know that it will be put on my black list, for cheating us, just like gigi bibi said. And for abusing BitsduJour website for this purpose.

Clone Files Checker @Serhan K. Yasar

Can you elaborate what do you mean by 'it wants to phone home which is not good!"

We will consider extending the software license and keep basic functionality active even after 12 months.

This issue is also getting addressed. You have been given the 100% FREE pro version and its license will NOT be terminated after 15 days.

Sorcim Technologies (pvt) Ltd. - Jun 1 2014 at 1:50pm Copy Link

Daryn Bogart "Wanting to phone home" means that the software wants to connect to a remote server which would imply that it is not a local installation only platform which in turn can be a potential security risk for hackers, etc. Any time any application needs to connect to any remote system, it creates the opportunity for risk.

Peter Thompson I'd like to suggest an improvement in the program itself. When the results arrive you can't read all the information on one page and have to scroll backwards and forwards i want to be able to read the full file name, location, hash etc.

This would be easily fixed by allowing us to have the program full size so we can see more information without needing to scroll

Indusekar SK Unfortunately, though this program installed without a glitch and got registered with the sent details, but still there is a GET PRO link existing and and the Scan Button disabled. So, there is no point in having installed as long as it is not going work and scan the duplicate files.

SCAN Button is disabled to scan and find any duplicate files. I find Delta Walker a better software than this.

That sounds like a really, really good idea, especially as I'm not sure how many users would even consider the possibility of having to renew their 1 year subscriptions at the 'regular' price of $39.97/year.

I'm sure that it's a perfectly fine product, but with sales terms like that, good luck.

CFGuy Dear Sorcim Support Rep- I'm not a fan of "subscription software", but for a reasonable price-point I would be willing to buy "lifetime upgrade' license. Two questions: first, I am going to be purchasing a new PC next month, as Microsoft will no longer be issuing security updates for Windows 7 (on my current PC) and I feel that is it time for a faster system anyhow. I checked the "fine print" here on BDJ as well as the "FAQ" section of your website, but don't see any mention of software "activation" using a hardware footprint or otherwise. What will I need to do in order to transfer my license to a brand new computer, if I install on this current system right after purchase? Second, your website lists a program feature of "Quick-Fix" that "will let you trash the unwanted files instantly". I sometimes have problems deleting files (via Windows) with "overlong" file names. Would your "Quick-Fix" file deletion option take care of this problem, or will the "overlong file names" deletion still be a problem for this feature, as well? Thanks so much for your help in addressing these questions. -Cfguy

Clone Files Checker Hello,

Thanks for appreciating our promotion, even though you are critical of the subscription software. We're confident, you would love the performance of our duplicate finder program. Here are the answers to your questions:

1: We'll activate the 'same license' on your new PC. You'll have to contact us through the Support Channel.
2: If the files are duplicate, the Quick-Fix feature will certainly remove the files with overlong file names.

J S Hello, According to the Bits du Jour "The Fine Print": Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will not be discounted.

Question: If - as I was going to do, buy the "Family Pack (3 Licenses) /Lifetime license ($21.24)", the matter of further payment for upgraded Software versions required after the first 12 months, is, somewhat of a hitch?

REGARDiNG Upgraded Version of Software:

Q1.For Licenses "not yet installed", What is the Price for Upgraded Versions of the Software?

Q2. After installing a Sandboxed version of Version 6, (on my PC) the list of approx 6 CLOUD Storage Providers seems to be limited to only Well Known USofA Cloud Services - which is a major failing.

1. A good many Friends/Clients of Bits du Jour are located outside of the USofA, so an option/method to log in to Non-USA CLOUD Storage Servers would be very welcome.

2. Subscriptions and payments for Minor Updates and Major Upgrades is also frowned upon by many Friends/Clients of Bits du Jour, who prefer a Pay Once with lifetime Updates/UPGRADES..

3. A previous User asked about a "PAUSE Seach" function as well as a STOP Button, and personally during my sandboxed quick scan, something happened, and I wished there had been a "Start / Pause-Resume / Stop" button.

The Likely hood of getting answers with just over 30 minutes to go before the offer expires is very slim, but having said that, If I could get answers to the above matters i've raised, I would almost Certainly buy the Family Pack (3 Licenses) /Lifetime license ($21.24).

I hope for a reply, because i liked what I saw and briefly used.

HJ B The program will display duplicates, even where there is a difference in the file name. For me, that is good, since I sometimes add or delete information to the file name. The program could permit me to delete the file(s) with the less desirable name. HOWEVER, when the list of duplicate files is displayed, there are multiple columns showing information about each file. The file name column can only be enlarged to show part of the file name, and that means files with longer file names truncate the names. That makes it not possible for me to easily determine which files have the desirable name. I tried shortening the width of other columns in the display, but that did not permit me to further widen the file name column.

Is there a for me to widen the file name column. If not, the value of the program for me would be substantially diminished.

On a saimilar point, assume I have a hundred page document file that has been saved as "Filename Example", and then, on the same date, I correct a few typos, and save that as "File Name Example 2", and the bit count remains the same. Is there any chance that the checker will show them to be the same file?
