What are people saying about ColorImpact

Jan-Christoph Ihrens Being a web developer, this is the color tool of my choice; I'm using it for quite some years now. Check out Ultra Color Picker, too - it shares the database with ColorImpact and is a nice little tool you can use when ColorImpact is overkill.

Don't expect a very active development, though!

Jan-Christoph Ihrens @Peter R: I think I tested version 1 of ColorSchemer back then. If you bought it, you surely won't need ColorImpact.

I'm not quite sure why I preferred ColorImpact over ColorSchemer back then - it's been quite a while since I tested it. ColorSchemer Studio 2 seems to be quite interesting, though - the Contrast Analyzer might be a nice feature; most of the other features can be found in both programs.

Michael K It this program suitable for putting together color schemes intended for print publications and not just web applications?

I ask because I don't see any reference to "pantone" colors.. is patone dead?

Thanks

Trond Grontoft Yes, I have used ColorImpact with both InDesign and PhotoShop to create publications for print. ColorImpact can give you the CMYK values directly or, if you prefer, you can use PhotoShop to convert from RGB to CMYK.

Pantone colors are still very much in use. This library is not built into the program, as their licencing rules would cause the price of the application to increase substantially. Also, most professional designers know how to convert Pantone and RGB / CMYK.

Michael K Does the eye drop tool in Color Impact not allow you to do exactly what Ultra Color Picker does, namely pick up a color from anywhere on your screen?
I just used the eye drop tool in Color Impact to do that so I'd very much appreciate knowing what Ultra Color Picker does that Color Impact does not do and how they complement one another.

Many thanks,

Michael K

Derek Lavine Hi Trond,

I have just downloaded and installed the software but when I run it my security software is informing me about actions such as direct disk access that it says are unusual.

And when I "import colors..." I get message saying ColorImpact.exe is trying to modify explorer.exe

Can you please explain why these actions are taking place.

Thanks

Ralph Bressler I just made the purchase. HOW do we get the license for Ultra Color Picker?
Dec 29 2011 at 7:25pm Copy Link
0
James Kenney Does this do anything that ColorSchemer Studio does not?
It does seem to LOOK a little more 'polished', but in the greater scheme of things, that does not matter that much, even if it IS nice.
How active is the development on this program?
Dec 29 2011 at 11:26pm Copy Link
0
Trond Grontoft @ Ralph:
You should have received yor license keys by now.

@ James:
If you look closely at the two programs, there are lots of differences. E.g. the logic to extract colors from an image is implemented totally different. The same goes for the test patterns and the export function. You really need to test both to find the one that suits you best.
As for future developement of ColorImpact, there is not much I can say other tha a new version is in the works.

Bertie Brummel I could not find any license terms in the /Fine Print! section or on your website. Is this software licensed per user or per computer? Can I install it on all private computers I own or do I need separate licenses for each PC?

Louis H I am having a lot of fun playing around with the demo for this program. I am also looking at one of your other programs - Ultra Color Picker. Can you clarify what it is, exactly, that Ultra Color Picker adds - other than a simpler method for selecting single colors from anything on my screen - websites, game screens, etc. - that cannot also be accomplished within ColorImpact?

I am debating about whether or not I actually need Ultra Color Picker - at least for my needs. I know I am going to pick up a copy of ColorImpact, especially with the discount when the offer goes live, but so far the only thing I can see my using Ultra Color Picker for - a tool readily available to pick specific colors from those that catch my eye in an image or a website - can actually be done more effectively - and with more options - from within ColorImpact.

Example : I went to a site where I really enjoy the color scheme they utilize. With the Ultra Color Picker I had to select each color to add it to a palette. With ColorImpact I took a screenshot of the page, then chose the "Import Colors From Image" option, set the "Max Colors" to 64, selected "Add colors to new palette," then went to the Export function (disabled in Trail version), checked the "Remove Duplicate Colors" option, and had a full palette of ALL the colors in the color scheme of the webpage.

Is there any way to extract ALL the colors from the webpage/screen image in Ultra Color Picker? The options seem very limited. I am trying to justify paying $25 for Ultra Color Picker, and as of this moment, I cannot do so. Can you, the vendor, help me better understand the value of purchasing Ultra Color Picker as well as ColorImpact?

Thanks!

Trond Grontoft ColorImpact is a much more powerful program than the Ultra Color Picker. The only advantage of UCP is that it loads faster and takes up little space on the screen. You will be perfectly fine with just ColorImpact.

You can copy color swatches from ColorImpact and pate them into Word / Excel or PPT. If you just want to set the color of, say an Excel cell, you would have to do the manually.
