What are people saying about Compress Guru

Robert User I love clear examples; they make me purchase products, but I'm not going to fall for a single image that "supposedly" has both (source and result). There is a Before and After shown on the same image but I need to see the two individual images (Before and After) that were used to make that single image. Only with those two images can I see if the effect (the "After") can be created from the "Before" image. If it can, then I need to see several examples of different types of images; otherwise, all I see is a smokescreen. Where are those sample images? They are not on the developer's website.

Making images on a website load fast is a direct correlation to image size, no doubt. It is a good thing to do, but pretty much everyone knows that already, and have made an effort to do that. Many web developing tools do it for you (depending on settings).

>"It’s not so much the content on your website, but the time spent waiting for images to load that’s driving people away!"

Whether visitors click away from a website can be affected by image load time, especially if it is for several images, however, as we advance into the future, it is one of the lesser evils; it all depends on how bad they want to see the rest of the content on the website. Everyone has had to wait for a full-size image to load, just to get to the parts of a website they have already made up their mind they want to see. Image size reduction alone will not cure your website traffic woes, but it is an important part regardless.

As more and more devices can support higher resolutions and overall image sizes, a website may need multiple sizes to represent that image (one for each class of device) and should display the correct one for the device used.

>"... Compress Guru also enables you to recover tons of hard drive space by compressing your image libraries to take up as little as 20% of their original size."

Realistically, web developers do not throw away the originals when they make a compressed version for the website. They always keep the original AND the reduced one, so instead of reducing your image libraries down to 20% of their original size, you will actually be adding an additional 20% to the storage needs of your image libraries.

Historically, website images were 72 PPI or 96 PPI, but now, it is not uncommon to have 300 PPI images on a website due to higher resolution devices and additional processing power available. 320x240 images are no longer common. In the future, we may need to go back to the largest originals we have and using modern Spline techniques, make larger versions of them to load to websites.

Chris The trial did no crushing of any image I put in it. Also there is no way to register the trial so I guess there is some limit on the trial that is unknown. The site doesn't offer a trial download, at least that I could find.
