eb235 While "triailing", I came to wonder if it is possible to select which email **messages** are backup up. Or is it always the whole mailbox ?

I'd like to choose a specific folder to be backed up. After all, if you use different folders in your mailbox, it's because some messages are more important than others.
Thanks !

HJ B 1. If I use Thunderbird and I have over a million messages, divided amongst 250 folders, and I wish to convert all to pdfs, what is the best way to proceed with this program.

2. When emails are converted to searchable pdfs, how are embedded graphics treated?

3. How are attachments treated?

4. What practical limits are there with the use of the program, with regard to number of files, attachments, etc.

5. If I have a folder that holds a portion of my emails, can the program convert its contained emails into a single pdf, with the emails in chronological order?

6. Do the converted files sort according to the original date of the email? Do they also sort according to subject, sender and recipient?

Thank you.

HJ B Not having heard back on my posting of over 2 hours ago, I went ahead and installed the program. It seems to have a number of claimed features that are not noted in the BDJ promotion.

I had to manually direct the program to my thunderbird files. It took a very long time to load them in. The result was that I saw a treestructure of my email folders similar to the tree I would see if were using my email client.

I pointed to one folder and directed that it extract the email addresses and subject header from each of the files within it. I picked the folder because I knew it did not have any emails in it. The program then took a look time, again, and a small window showed that it was going through ALL of my folders, and it was giving an error code for each of them. The error code looked like this:

1/2/2022 6:35 PM - [path to folder] (0) > Folder Loading Failed
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: path1

It did not stick to the selected folder, but went through all of my folders. In this way I found out that I have over 300 folders. All of them produced the same error message, with the path changing for each folder, of course.

I rebooted the program, and this time I was led to a way to select an individual folder (Desktop) within which I have 48 sub folders. I asked it to convert all of the emails to pdfs. It chugged along, and produced 48 error codes, similar to my prior experience.

It is clear that I either missed something in the setup or the program does not work with Thunderbird folders and files.

JW Does this offer come with the "30-day Money-back" assurance, as on their website?

If I were to buy this version 'now' how long would the purchase be valid for if a new release were to be made available (which would then overwrite the current version, and thus invalidate the registered 'key')? [The information in the Fine Print would appear to make all updates/upgrades require additional payments!]

Will we get any answers before today's offer finishes?

Jerry S I'm going to purchase, bu I am really nervous. Their return policy excludes "You have used the application within the guarantee period and no longer require it".

The trial version only handles 10 messages. That's hardly enough to provide a valid test.

I'll try it on a large live PST file and, hopefully it will work.

eb235 Rerun of a previous post that got deleted for reasons I do not understand.

Briefly, I asked here if " it is possible to select which email **messages** are backup up". Corbett User answered "Simply select required folder and backup."

It may be possible but I could not find how with the trial version (which backs up 10 messages per folder for all folders).
I posted a polite but frank report in the hope of being proved wrong.
No answer (I checked a few times for a few days) and then my report simply disappeared from the conversation.

This time I back up my post.

Eric Dear Sirs,

A few questions:

1. Can the software cope with POP too, or is it limited to IMAP?

2. After an initial backup, can it perform incremental \ differential backups (or does it always assume that everything is to be backed up)?

3. If the answer to the previous is positive, can a restore be performed from combined (initial + incremental \ differentials) backups?

4. Under the same assumption: can initial + incremental \ differentials be consolidated offline (for possible faster restore, if need be)?

5. Conversion: can it be performed only at backup time, or can the backup's output be converted as well?

Thanks in advance for a prompt & enlightening reply,

Sincerely,

Eric

David H (Seattle) I'm having trouble downloading the demo, so I'll ask what I was going to try testing plus another Q or two. Please forgive someone who knows little about IMAP vs PST vs email-server etc. I got even more confused by looking at the offerings at forensiksoft.com, and comparing today's backup/restore app vs the one there and the bundle. Any clarification would help!

1. I want to offload / backup emails from Comcast, Google, Outlook.com, and things I use Windows Mail Client with, in a way I can access them when needed, sometimes including attachments but mostly without. This can access all those? What can it NOT access?

2. What is the bundle at Forensik? It's not so clear to a casual user, it kind of looks like it's the Backup/Restore app plus the Converter app, which adds the ability to go into a saved PST and pull out PDFs, whereas the Backup/Restore can only pull from IMAP servers.

3. It looks like this deal is a reduced price vs $99 because it is for only 2 computers instead of 5. Correct?

Thanks! Will keep trying to get the demo.

eb235 The "final cut" on Corbett Email Backup & Restore Wizard

Corbett User said " no need to backup complete mailbox. Simply select required folder and backup". That may be true, but no with the trial version !

I started the backup with only one folder selected. I did notice the program touched a number of other folders. When I stopped the process, I was told "Demo Edition Export only 10 items from Each Folder. Please Upgrade to Licensed Edition to Export All."
It would have been much more clever :
- to tell that to the user **before** starting the backup
- to mention that somewhere in the BDJ offer or the official Web site.

In effect, partial backup is a feature I can't test without laying down some cash (not a negligible amount).

What's more some errors in the log are strange :
- sometimes the INBOX can't be loaded (too many messages ?)
- three "Folder Loading Failed" errors happened on empty folders (is it really an error ?). On the TRASH folder a server error was mentioned ("The server has responded with negative reply. The server responded: MBN00000117 NO No matching messages (0.010 sec).")
- on closer inspection, folder names starting with _ seem to cause some problems (it is usual to use this character to have folders in the order you want)
- last there was a cast error (from type 'OutlookReader.Models.BaseModel' to type 'OutlookReader.Models.Message') on OUTBOX

It is probably difficult to encompass all the subtleties on all mail servers but this means this software has some quirks unfortunately.

1. Can the software cope with POP too, or is it limited to IMAP?

2. After an initial full backup, can it perform incremental \ differential backups (or does it always assume that everything is to be backed up)?

3. If the answer to the previous is positive, can a restore be performed from combined (initial + incremental \ differentials) backups?

4. Under the same assumption: can initial + incremental \ differentials be consolidated offline (for possible faster restore, if need be)?

Corbett User @Eric, please see the answers below:

1. Can the software cope with POP too, or is it limited to IMAP?

Current version of the program supports IMAP accounts only.

2. After an initial full backup, can it perform incremental \ differential backups (or does it always assume that everything is to be backed up)?

After the initial backup, users can use advanced search button (magnifying glass icon on top right corner) to search emails within a date range and backup the search result. Currently scheduled/automated back up option is not available with the program.

3. If the answer to the previous is positive, can a restore be performed from combined (initial + incremental \ differentials) backups?

Yes, you can browse all the backed up files and restore.

4. Under the same assumption: can initial + incremental \ differentials be consolidated offline (for possible faster restore, if need be)?

If you are dealing with offline files and there is no IMAP accounts involved, the program will work offline.

5. Conversion: can it be performed only at backup time, or can the backup's output be converted as well?

Users can convert/backup/migrate all possible combinations provided with the program. There are no such restrictions.

Hope this helps! Kindly post further queries.

Eric Dear Sirs,

Thanks for -- finally -- getting back.

To the point:

1. IMAP\POP: Are there plans to support POP accounts too? If so, by when?

2. Incremental \ Differential backups: manually selecting the cut points for each backup session has always the risk of double backing up some entries or missing others.
Even if auto scheduling is not available, the program should know where it left over and from where to start according to the User's request for an incremental \ differential backup. Any plans to implement this (after all, it's basic request for a backup program ...)?

3. Backups offline consolidation: guess my question was misunderstood.
Obviously, if i am working with the files offline than the program will work offline as well - this was not the question however.
The question is whether several backup files can be consolidated (offline, of course) into a single backup file, to provide -- eventually -- for faster restoration, should the need arise (not to have to run several restore jobs in order to complete the restoration sequence)?

Your further input will be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Eric

David H (Seattle) Finally got the demo, let it chew on my overfull Gmail Inbox (265k+) and others, and it seems to do what it says, including the ability to stuff emails into multiple different formats of email archive files, but also extract them back out as needed to other files types or back to email accounts (not necessarily the same account), thus serving multiple purposes. Their website also has all sorts of use cases as instructions on how to backup, restore, and especially move email around. It's not necessarily the prettiest program, it took 30+ min to read all 265k+ emails, but so far it seems to be doing fine with that. It's kinda seeming like the best balance of what I need, with a 40% discount. I think it's time to buy this and give it a thorough 30-day workout, but I'm pretty sure it's a keeper :) Has to pass the Comcast test now...
