What are people saying about Desktop Icon Toy

John Doe OK - not to be rude but I understand your potential desire to start to differentiate yourself now that you have new ownership, but this new layout is HORRIBLE. I might suggest using the old format until you can REDESIGN the site layout - then it might look better, but this looks like someone had some real optical issues.
Aug 30 2007 at 6:30pm Copy Link
M B I agree with John Doe - I hope the current design is a glitch due to the ownership transfer that will be fixed.

Nico Westerdale Thanks for the feedback, and we're sorry that you don't like the changes. We've added discussion forums and integrated the comments, it's all run off of a new backend system that makes it easier for us to track and schedule the software titles.

What exactly don't you like about the new system? We're happy to make changes.
BitsDuJour Admin - Aug 30 2007 at 6:57pm Copy Link
Nico Westerdale Just a thought - if you are experiencing any very bad errors in the way BitsDuJour looks it could be due to your browser caching the old stylesheets. Hold down Ctrl on your keyboard (or the Apple key on a mac) and click your browser's refresh button and that should fix any issues.

James Hume I think the new preview page is much better, you can see what's coming up really easily. Nice work Nico!

Nico Westerdale Ivan - I assume that you are asking whether the discount is real, the answer is of course yes, just click the 'I Need It' button. If you want to try the software first then click the 'I'll Try it First'
BitsDuJour Admin - Aug 31 2007 at 3:12am Copy Link
M B Must have been a glitch - the page looks fine today (may have been a cache problem like Nico mentioned).

Rick Truell Hopefully iDeskSoft will extend their deal on Desktop Icon Toy for a bit since, with 5:30 remaining, I am unable to access their store to purchase the product. The following error message is generated when pressing the "Buy Now" button:

Arthur Z Would I be able to arrange icons by categories?
Oct 22 2009 at 3:32am Copy Link
Rod Johson Sorry, there is no such feature currently. Only can arrange icons by name.
iDeskSoft - Oct 23 2009 at 1:24am Copy Link
Bob S Arthur - you might look at Fences from Stardock. Allows you to create categories and place icons within those categories ("fences") on your desktop. I use and it's been quite helpful.

Frederic Martin Can Desktop icon toy remeber the original icon place so that when this soft uninstalled can put that order back. is there any options also like go back to previous state.
Oct 24 2009 at 3:40am Copy Link
Rod Johson Default, when the icon position changed by build-in layout (eg: arrange to heart). Current icon position will be auto saved, and you can restore the old icon position by clicking "Restore Layout" menu item. If you didn't change the default option, simply uninstall the Desktop Icon Toy will restore to previous state.

Tortuga @Rod Johnson Hello :)
The Policy states:
-Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed
What does this mean? If the PC/laptop dies, can't we transfer to the new one?
It's a rather strange rule, since nowadays everybody changes or upgrade often!

Hope this is sorted out. I am ready to buy, as I used to have it from a promo @GOTD, & really miss it
Aug 21 2016 at 12:57am Copy Link
Rod Johson Sure, the license can be transfered to other computer so long as it's your own computer. It only restricts not being used more than one computer at the same time.

Tortuga Hello Rod :)
Thank you for your prompt reply!
I don't really understand the limitation ...
As I said, I previously had this prog installed on all my PCs/Laptops. This is not a 'On Demand' prog, like a player, a converter, Excel, etc. It starts at Windows Start Up.
How then, can it not be used at the same time?
I open the PCs & laptop on my LAN in the morning & use them where I need (kitchen, living, upstairs, garden, etc)
It's not really logical asking people going 'round to continually open/shut the machines all day long. And anyway I need the other PCs opened to access *stuff*.
I planned to purchase 2 licenses for me & my husband, so do hope you can see the conundrum of this limitation.

Aug 21 2016 at 8:19am Copy Link
Rod Johson It's ok to use one license for all your own computers. One license only can be used by a single user

Jeffrey Stone Does this work with Windows 10?
Aug 23 2016 at 3:23am Copy Link
Rod Johson Yes, it should be.

You can download it firstly from below link and try it.

Hank Friedman Does it work with Fences?
Aug 23 2016 at 5:26pm Copy Link
Rod Johson Sorry, we didn't test it. May not work.

Kat D Does the software have an export/import feature so I can copy an arrangement to my second computer? Would also be useful when having to reformat a drive.
Aug 24 2016 at 7:20am Copy Link
Rod Johson Yes, there is a feature in the 'Option' panel to export/import the settings.
iDeskSoft - Aug 24 2016 at 4:07pm Copy Link
Tortuga @Rod Hello :)
Yes, of course. Anyway I won't let my husband touch my machines, as he messes everything, "thinking" he knows stuff ... Because really, clicking "Next" is fun ... *sign*

Me happy !!! Just bought 2 licenses - YEAHHH!!
N.B.: Thank you for the reminder abt the "Export" feature. It exports as a .reg file.
As I didn't find an "Import" button/feature, dbl clicking it, does it, right?
Aug 24 2016 at 5:41pm Copy Link
Michael R. Having not so much 'fun' in mind, I'm wondering, if it is possible to define the number of columns/rows of the icon-'matrix' (per default (Without DIT) it seems to be 16x16 icons on my 1980x1080-display, Win10)?

Also I found out, having set the icons to 32x32, there is no way back to the original size (probably 16x16). 'Restore Layout' doesn't do that. With 32x32 there are nevertheless this big, that my background-image is quite overwritten. Perhaps you could add a way for the user to keep his original size (or add 16x16)?
Aug 24 2016 at 7:24pm Copy Link
Rod Johson For the exported .reg file, yes, double click it to import the settings.

For the icon size, you can hold down the Ctrl key and then scroll mouse wheel to resize the size.

Tortuga @Rod Hello :)

A future "Import" button would be appreciated ;)
