Direct Folders gives you immediate access to every file on your computer, no matter where it's parked. When you double click on the desktop, Windows Explorer, or a Save/Open dialog box, Direct Folders will immediately transport you to the last folder you used or to any other folder your choice. With Direct Folders, your most important documents are literally a click away!

And that's not all -- Direct Folders also lets you configure default folders for each program on your computer. For example, the next time you create a Word document, it'll be automatically be saved in the folder that you keep your Word files in!

Direct Folders also lets you check the space on your hard drive from the Save dialog, so that you can know that you're running out of hard drive space long before you try to save or copy a file that's too large.

Code Sector We've just released version 4.1 today.
- Added option to show folder content as a submenu.
- Added menu icons preloading on the app start.
- Fixed issue where save dialogs close instead of changing path.
- Fixed a few minor issues.

Staley I'm trying to uninstall Direct Folders 4.0 and it's asking for the installation source. What should the uninstaller be pointed at?

Duane User I had used Direct Folders for many years. Sometimes it would blow up and not be able to be reloaded until reboot. I bought this new version today and it has some more major issues. It doesn't recognize the center mouse button even though it is selected to launch it. It doesn't accept my license key. It works worse than the old versions.

Mazen User I just purchased Direct Folder, downloaded the program and installed it. I can't for the life of me figure out where to enter the registration to unlock the Pro version. I can even find Help/About to figure out what version I have. Can you please help.

Experience Just bought it, no issues with middle click or registration located @ tray icon/about, bought it mainly to clear up my messy desktop, I normally use Directory Opus for similar things but this way I can access a lot from my desktop directly instead such as my most frequent stuff
Perhaps update and freshen up "Direct Folders" knowledge base / Help files, I felt kinda lost there seeming a bit old with outdated images making me rather confused instead of helping :P

Welcome Girl @Mazen User

Right-click on the tray icon and select About...

Duane User After getting a response from support I found that their software that enters the serial number string is extremely touchy. This is something that could be fixed by them. Often when you select text in Outlook or Word, Microsoft adds a space at the end. If this happens when you're copying the impossibly-long key string, then it will fail to register.

Once it was registered, the center mouse button indeed brought up the DirectFolders interface. I see that this version has been rewritten and I expect it to work now without blowing up as the old version did.

Once working, this is a valuable addition to the Windows experience.

Lorraine Morrow Absolutely can not find where to enter registration - my right click in tray only has configure close and pin to taskbar.

Duane User I have a trouble ticket in since yesterday. But Welcome Girl on this site let me to the answer.

Once loaded, find it in the notification area at the right end of the taskbar (could be hidden, so use the up-arrow) then right click on the DirectFolders icon and pic,k About. Click Enter Key and paste your registration key in, making sure there is no spaces at the end of the text.

If you click About after that, you will see your name and email address at the bottom. It doesn't say Pro, but if not registered, then it will behave as the free version. So, keep trying or open a support ticket at

It's worth the hassle.

Mazen User I had the same problem and I couldn't find the icon in the tray. I ended up restarting the computer then it showed up. Try that maybe that will help.

The question I have is what is the difference between the Pro version and standard. I can't tell. My guess there isn't other than registration.

It's a nice program but needs some tweaks, just my 2 cents.

Lorraine Morrow I have the icon in tray I have even tried deleting and re-installing but still have no where to enter registration. If they do't answer my ticket soon I will have to request a refund
