What are people saying about Disk Watchman

SoftCollector I own several Metaproducts software titles (namely: Net Activity Diagram, Mass Downloader and Startup Organizer - and I am looking forward to buying Offline Explorer when a good deal is offered here). I like both the company and the software! The software titles mentioned above are both simple, reliable and top most of the competitors on the market.

That said Disk Watchman seems to offer very basic functionality and therefore I have not thought of acquiring it. I hope it will be developed in the future along the lines of products like Hard Disk Sentinel or at least Active@ Disk Monitor Pro, so that it turns into a full-fledged HDD suite. That will justify the price tag and make it popular among users.

Disk Watchman was designed for the other purpose. The apps you mentioned monitor the HDD health and work on the low level. Disk Watchman is the disk space monitoring utility, it has very simple UI and features for non-advanced users.

However, thank you for your recommendations. We will discuss this when planning the future development of Disk Watchman.

This software has not the same purpose that Hard Disk Sentinel !
I was waiting for a long time this offer and I will buy a licence.
I hope that Mass Downloader will be offered soon...

This is, of course, true. But Disk Sentinel has the same functionality as Disk Watchman - there is a module that can be switched on and it shows on your desktop giving you info on the space issues of your HDDs. So the same (90% similarity) functionality is included - plus much more. I am not saying this is bad - everything that comes from Metaproducts is well engineered, useful and reliable - but I see no reason to buy is separately, as it is already available as part of other software packages.

HD Sentinel is in blue, DW is in yellow. DW's note looks nicer, but all in all functionality is the same.

What DW adds, however (and this could be important for some), is transparency and click-through mode.

Alexander Bednyakov Yes, Disk Watchman was developed as a simple, small and handy utility.

We didn't plan adding the complex SMART functionality, it may be not so necessary for regular non-advanced users. However, it could be a good idea for Professional version of Disk Watchman. We will consider developing it.

Michael R. Is it possible to define deletable files, files with extentions, directories for certain directories only by ourself.

For example it would make sense to delete all files with extentions *.td* for directories containing source-code (because they are debugger-files which get quite big and are rebuilt automatically if no more available), but not for all directories, because there *.td* might be something else and might be important.

Jerry S I purchased this without installing the demo because I have several MetaProducts applications and they are solid.

Unfortunately when it comes to finding duplicates, Disk Watchman fails - completely. I have one folder which I know has thousands - no kidding, thousands - of duplicates. Disk Watchman found not a single one. I don't know what algorithm(s) they're using to search for dupes, but I can tell you it doesn't work on identical names, sizes or hashes.

I'm going to carefully evaluate the other program functions to see if they work. Disappointing in light of the excellent experience I've enjoyed with other MetaProducts apps.

metaproducts.com with more details on the duplicates? We are interested in a few sample duplicate files. Do they have the same filename or only contents matches?
