Michael R. How are hard-links (i.e. these links you can e.g. create with the makelink-command) handled in DiskFerret?

Ray Newman Exolon, If you could, navigate to the DiskFerret log location by entering %userprofile%\diskferret into Windows Explorer address bar, and send the DiskFerret.log.0 to supportdiskferret.com we'll take a look to see if we can determine the problem.

Ray Newman Hard links are treated as physical files by DiskFerret. Hard links not only point to a file but duplicate it as a copy without taking up the extra hard disk space required by a clone. If you have a hard link pointing to a file then delete the original file, the hard link will still retain a copy of the clone. This is a darned if you do and darned if you don’t situation. When treated as a physical file, hard links can skew disk utilization results when the link and the physical file are in the same scan results, but if only the link is in the scan results it could skew potential disk utilization results if not included.

Michael R. Thanks Ray for your quick answer. Since XP I use directory-hardlinks mostly for backup-restore reasons: I do often a fast restore of my complete 'windows/program' partition (TrueImage) without wanting new data-files be overwritten by the old ones, so I have the data-files on a separate partition. Unfortunately some programs do not allow this directly, but with a hardlink I can let the physical data be on the other, the data-parition.

What I meant with my question before was mostly:

Can I, when using DiskFerret see all the files which are virtually on a partition and at the same time see, that they are physically not on that partition? So it would be great to have kind-of-a-button to switch between a virtual sight (, were all the files/directories were visible in their sizes like they appear in a filebrowser (no matter if the files/dirs are on the current partition or not) - as said, they should be easily seen as not physically on this drive) and a physical sight (where just the link(-file) would appear).

So e.g. I could avoid (by switching to the physical sight) while being on my program-drive C: to remove unintentionally dictories/files from my drive D: just because I think these files are on drive C: and could restored easily afterwards by my backup/restore-program.

Another thing would be when searching for duplicate files, which I've seen is luckily integrated into your utilitiy. Is there taken care of the case, that files/dirs which do occur virtually on two different places, but are physically the same are shown as double? So when removing a spposed duplicated file/dir this would also remove the other file. Does DiskFerret handle this case from not happening?

Thanks a lot...

Ray Newman Michael, I assume you are referring to Directory Junctions, but to be sure tell me more about the specific commands you use to create the links.

If you are using Directory Junctions, this can be handled in DiskFerret by setting up a filter that excludes files which have their reparse point attribute set. Once a filter has been configured to exclude reparse points you can quickly switch between your filter that excludes directory junctions, or no filter, via the filter dropdown list that is located on the application toolbar. Folder and file objects in DiskFerret are displayed using the same icons that are displayed by Windows, so you'll get the same visual indicator that you get in Windows when a directory is a junction or a symbolic link. Also, using a filter that excludes reparse points as described above will avoid showing a duplicate for a physical file and a file linked via a directory junction.

Michael R. Hi Ray.

You are right. What I meant above was indeed what you thought I did. I use an utility called MAKELINK in command-mode to create these links (wirtten by Mikael Nordell from year 2000) and when calling it, it gives a short explanation, what it does: 'Displays and/or modifies NTFS5 Junction Points').

So, thanks for your explaining answer. Before I never knew about such a reparse point attribute...

Andrew Griffiths FYI - have spent 20 mins trying to buy. Have never used or been forced to use Google Checkout before. Tried in both Chrome & Internet Explorer but Google Checkout complete fail.

1st it tried to tell me California not a recognized state
2nd it wouldn;t let me get past the agree to terms & conditions etc without actually opening them (2 documents) although I don't think it said that and certainly wasn;t obvious
3rd it tells me "content cannot be displayed in a frame"
4th and deal killer - "place your order now $8.99" grayed out - tried refreshing page several times to no avail

Add another 5+ mins signing in here and writing this + you have one frustrated, lost customer.

Michael R. Hi Ray.

In the meantime I downloaded the demo and played around with it. I went to a directory where some junction-point-directories are in (with no filter applied) and strangely they did not appear in DiskFerret at all.

Playing around a little - I could not reconstruct what I did - once they suddenly appeared. After quiting DiskFerret and restarting it again, they were gone again...

Peter C1 Well I love the graphics and I have a good look around the website too.

What can I price wise it compares favourably with another well known and similar in appearance program (think Trees and their size) And it would appear that the other program which has been around for years, allows the buyer to select a 12,24 or 36months of maintenance (including any updates or major upgrades) period.

Having said that Disk Ferret is currently at version 1.3.0 with free minor updates AND it may well be a few years before version 2 is released and requires a new (discounted?) payment.

The main downfall I could find by comparison with the other progam, is that the opposition allows a SiNGLE USER to install Personal or Professional versions on up to 3 computers (but read the L, T&C to see what category you fit in) AND there is NO ONLiNE Activation to speak of (well not that I could find mentioned).

So wether to buy DiskFerret or Tree???? hmmm it's not an easy choice but I think the single user 3 PC & no online activation sways me away from DiskFerret.

But there is still about 8.5 hours till expiry ...

Jerry S I'm a bit disappointed. Your per computer license in this age of people commonly owning two personal computers is regressive. At this price, I would have purchased two licenses, one for my primary computer and another for my travel machine, but your Google Checkout doesn't permit me to change quantities. If you think I will be so infatuated with DiskFerrett that I will pay full price for a second copy for my little used travel computer, you're wrong.

Also, I would suggest you use another payment platform since Google Checkout doesn't permit me to use other payment modes such as PayPal.

Small criticisms to be sure, but you're in a customer driven market and should focus on pleasing your customers. It takes more than just a good product to do that.

Joel Koltner Let me chime in here to also mention that -- while at least it's clearly mentioned on the "policy tab" here -- as a "PC enthusiast" locking the software to a single machine doesn't really do me any good: I run through multiple PCs each year, and it's a royal pain to have to call or e-mail companies to see if they'll let you transfer the license to a new machine and try to convince them that, no, you're not trying to pirate the software.

I would be willing to pay more for a "licensed PER USER for non-commercial purposes" version. Even Microsoft offers this with Windows, you know...

Jerry S I am not impressed with Disk Ferret's business practices. I wrote their support department ot complain of not having received a receipt or serial number.

Noticed a posting here that they send it to the your Gmail address. Duh! This is 2012. I give you the address I want you to use in communicating with me - and you use it. You don' send it to an email address I very rarely use.

Color me not impressed. The product is marginally useful, but the restrictive licensing terms, the inability to purchase two licenses and the business of sending transaction information to a Gmail address I rarely use leads me to consider just forgetting about the whole thing.

Ray Newman Jerry - We heard Bits ju Jour users loud and clear on the issue of Google Checkout. Google Checkout provides Swooft Software, LLC with a secure and economical ecommerce solution, which helps us keep our cost down, but we understand that customers want alternatives. We are working on alternative ecommerce solutions and will provide those in the future. Our automated order fulfillment sends emails with activation codes to the email address that is registered with Google Checkout. That is the only email address we have available.

Rick Sumrall Is it possible to perform scans across multiple drives, rather than working with one drive at a time. For example, I want to view all my local and network drives in a single view so I can look at who is using up the most space across all drives, as well as producing charts and graphs of all my drives in a single view. Basically ,I want to run any of the operations simultaneously using a multitude of drives/paths. Can it do that.

Tom R Really disappointed with this software. Although my computer is rather old, it runs all other software that i care to use at a reasonable speed on its 2.8ghz Pentium 4. Diskferret, however, takes so long to do most operations that it is practically unusable. Scanning takes a little while depending on how big the folder/drive is, which is expected.
But when not actually scanning, and just changing from one kind of display to another, can take minutes rather than seconds. I am quite a patient person, but even to me there are limits to what is tolerable.
This is a real pity, because i used to use an old program called Scanner 2.10. Then more recently started using TreeSize, and was hoping this would be a worthy replacement. But alas, i will go back to using TreeSize because although it has less features, i don't have to sit around for so long waiting for my system resources to be handed back every time i do any operation.

It was comparable in speed, even with huge networked drives. I just scanned a 67GB networked drive over VPN and it took about ten minutes which was actually a little quicker than SpaceMonger. I like the look and feel and the functionality is adequate. 4 out of 5 stars...

Grandong Mulez @Ray Newman
Thank you for the respond.

It was my mistake, try to register on a pc with no internet connection, which then forced to close by it self. Can't make it run since then.
Uninstall, reinstall, then activate (online) again, solves my problem.

But, something is missing here..
The program should warn user that internet connection is required for activation. Not just forced to close the program and won't allow the program runs afterward, don't you?

But still, thank you.
Now I have time to test & play with it, then decide whether to keep it, or to uninstall it if not suit me

Ray Newman Roberto, We don't currently have a usb/portable version. Maybe in the future...

You might want to try DiskFerret Lite, our free version which runs in a browser http://www.diskferret.com/lite.html. Capabilities are limited but you can run it from any computer that has Java installed and has an internet connection.

loving thesixties I accidentally entered the license key for another product entirely and now DiskFerret gives a Java Platform not working error and refuses to run at all. I am not a programmer, but if you could tell me how to delete the wrong license key manually (i.e. where is it?), then maybe I could start all over again. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that put me right back where I was before, so that is not the answer. Revo uninstaller and Ashampoo Uninstaller don't even show DiskFerret as being installed, so the only way I have to uninstall it is through Control Panel (I'm using 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.). Can you help me with this problem? Thanks.

Ray Newman Open a command prompt
Type
cd "\program files\diskferret"
Type
diskferret /deletelicense

This should cleanup any corrupted license activations.

Run DiskFerret
If it runs and displays a dialog that indicates that you have 30 days left on your evaluation, try activating it again.

Ray Newman Folks, DiskFerret's license allows the software to be used non-simultaneously by a single user on up to 3 fixed computers, or may be used non-simultaneously by multiple users on a single computer. That means you get 3 activations. You must activate the software on at least 1 computer within the 1st 30 days. At any point during or after the 30 days you can activate on 2 other computers provided the software is used non-simultaneously by a single user. At any point during or after the 30 days you can release a license and activate on another computer. If you've used all of your activations and your computer crashes, giving you not way to release the license, contact supportdiskferret.com.

For those of you who had problems that were not addressed yesterday, pleaase contact supportdiskferret.com. Most of the problems encountered are typicall related to system permissions, so be sure to run the installer as and administrator and after installing run the app as an administrator.

loving thesixties I did as you suggested, and then uninstalled DiskFerret, reinstalled it and restarted windows for good measure, but I am still getting the same error message: "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working." Must be something else corrupted that I can't find since I already deleted everything with diskferret in the name. Any clue as to what I should do next? For instance, should I see if installing DiskFerret to a different folder would make any difference, even though that seems unlikely to help as far as I can see, anyway? I even used JavaRa to completely remove the slightly out of date Java and updated to the newest one available to see if that might help, and it didn't. P.S. after all the reinstalls, I am not getting the error message any more, but it still won't do anything except flash the logo up for a second or two when I try to run DiskFerret. Once I did get a message that it could not create the JVM, but no more. So I am currently at a loss as to what to try next, and I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

George Butel Installing the program and running it gives a dialog box that says that the program requires Java version 1.6.0. My Java is the most recent version, 1.7.0_09. In order to run the program, I would have to downgrade to an older, less secure version of Java.
Trying to login here to post this comment as a registered BitsDuJour customer, Kaspersky will not let me, and tells me that this is a known phishing site.

Ray Newman George, DiskFerret has a minimum requirement of Java 1.6.0 but it runs fine with later versions of Java and does not force you to downgrade to 1.6 if you are running 1.7.0_09. Something else is amiss, possibly a corrupt install of Java... Please contact supportdiskferret.com and we'll work with you on analyzing the issue.

My guess on Kaspersky telling you that BitsDuJour is a phishing site is that Kaspersky is badly mistaken.

George Butel Knowing how inefficient Java updating is (I don't know whether it's the fault of Oracle and/or Windows)--i.e., there are always traces of older versions--I went to the Control Panel and uninstalled all Java. Then, I opened Revo Uninstaller, and, lo and behold, it showed an older version of Java present that was unknown to the Control Panel, so I tried to uninstall it, and, although there was no uninstaller, Revo did find a bunch of Java 1.6 reg entries and folders, so I got rid of all that. Then, just to make sure, I followed the procedure at http://forums.whatthetech...pic=104537 and downloaded a little file that checks for a couple of reg entries that characteristically cause Java update problems. Then, I verified Java, and Chrome kept saying it wasn't installed, and I kept going around in circles with Chrome and Java, installing it via Chrome, only to have it tell me that it wasn't installed after successfully installing it, so I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome. Then, all the Java everywhere (Chrome, IE and Firefox) was working, and there was only one version--and, DiskFerret installed perfectly. I don't know if it was the old versions of Java that were interfering, or if it might have been JavaFX 2.1.1, which I don't remember installing, but I uninstalled anyway. JavaFX 2.1.1 had to have been part of some other program I haven't used in a while; I'm sure I'll find out which one when it doesn't work.
I was concerned about the Kaspersky message because of a recent warning from Sophos and some other site about safety issues at a number of very well-known freeware and regular software download sites. BitsDuJour was not mentioned in their warnings, and I had not had any problems with the individual programs I'd gotten from BDJ, but I suddenly became concerned about the fact that I did not remember seeing any banners plastered around BDJ bragging about how safe their downloads are.

.does not allow file owner analysis
.does not allow continuous drive monitoring
.does not allow scheduled tasks
.only displays top 50 files
.support for duplicate file analysis will not available in future releases
.treemap chart depth is limited to 2
.memory is limited when running inside a browser, drives with a large # of files may fail due to lack of memory

For example, in comparing two folders, I'd like to be able to see a list of only those files that exist in one folder but not in the other. This would be useful for determining if one folder is an exact mirror or backup of the other.

Matt Hello Ray,

1. I just want to confirm what I believe you said above (per Tortuga).

If we purchase the current version (2.1.0.3), the next major version (3.x) and all 3.x updates are included free?

2. Is the 'Multiple Drive Scans' available?

Ray Newman: "Rick,
DiskFerret will only scan 1 drive at a time for now. We are currently working on multiple drive scans and plan to have that feature in a new release within the next few months.
Swooft Software, LLC - Jun 24 2012 at 10:21am"

3. I don't see any dates on the 'Release Notes' on your website. Can you tell us approximately when version 2 was released? And when do you expect to release version 3?

Thank you.

Ray Newman Matt,

1. Minor releases are free, major releases are not. If you purchase 2.1.0.3 any subsequent 2.x releases are free. 3.x will require an upgrade fee. Upgrades at 60% off the regular price, but you'll probably be able to pick up an upgrade during one of our promotions (like this one) at a significant discount ($4 today).
2. Yes, 2.x supports scanning multiple drives simultaneously.
3. 2.0 was released on 11/27/2013. 2.1 was released on 4/29/2014. Release 3, at least a year, maybe 2.

"Correct..."

I was thinking by your answer that version 3 was just around the bend, and you were giving a free upgrade to version 3.

Now I understand.

I just made the purchase.

Thanks again!

Craig Haywood With so many freeware utilities that does exactly what Disk Ferret does and more why would anyone consider buying Disk Ferret?

I am not trying to dis the software as it does what it is supposed to do and does it well. It just seems to me this company is trying to sell something which is already widely available as a free product.

I downloaded the trial version and the software does nothing that freeware versions do

Ray Newman DiskFerret is a comprehensive disk analysis tool that contains a combination of advanced features that save time and are not available in any other product.

Some of the features that you won't find in free products are:
advanced filtering and searching;
asynchronous scans of multiple volumes;
multiple volume analysis;
duplicate file analysis, across volumes;
scheduled scans;
email/text notifications when scans are ready;
runs as a service so that scheduled scans run even when the user is not logged into the system;
constant disk space monitoring for an unlimited number of drives with email/text notifications when disk space is low.

I urge you to look beyond the surface at some of the advanced features of DiskFerret. For your disk space analysis and monitoring needs I firmly believe that DiskFerret will increase your productivity significantly.

Tortuga @Ray Newman Hello :)
I went to the 'Release Notes' page, I see there is no change on the changelog from last time, ie it still states 2.0.0.1 (!!), the same errors I mentioned last time on Nov.2014. I almost did NOT dwld, since it was the same version ... :(
Dwlded, 'just in case' & yes there is in fact a new version, but can NOT find the release date anywhere!!
Lets see:
1) There is no way to know if there is a new version, either via changelog, nor via the dwld page: there is NO version number there either!!
2) From the program itself, there is NO way of knowing either, there is NO 'Check for New Version' on the 'Help/About' tab
3) In Preferences, I didn't see an Option to 'Check for New Version' on Start
So, what are we suppose to do? Dwld every month, ''Just-In-Case'' ??!!
Really??
Can you imagine if all installed programmes had this behaviour? The loss of time, the loss of bandwidth, and ... patience !!!

Can't you AT LEAST put the current version number besides the dwld button?!!!!
In the end, after all this, where can we find out if this version is or is not included w the license we purchased on Feb.2014?? Grrrr!!!!!

Peace ... even though ...

Ray Newman Tortuga, Nice rant! :-)

I suppose we needed a good chewing out for not keeping that change log updated... We've updated the release notes for you and posted them to the website. Too late for you I realize, but maybe others will benefit. Thanks for pointing out the mistake.

As to your question about whether the current version is included… If you already have v2.x you're good to go, download the latest if you want. If you have v1.x, you'll need to upgrade to the current v2.x release.

Tortuga @Ray Newman Hello :)
Yes indeed, twas a rant, the milder version of my first 2 drafts... You should have seen the smoke coming out of my ears :-) Went for a walk before the final one ;)

Thank you for your reply. I went to the changelog page, there is smtg I don't get ...
-My installed version is 2.1.0.3, so I know it exists, but there is no mention of that iteration on the page!?
And, I'm still hoping, at some point, to have DATES!! Pretty PLEASE??!!

I buy LOTS of progs here, not bc I need it, most I never even use, but to encourage independent developers.
From all those I've bought (and actually use!), 3 Devs stand out on their approach to changelogs w dates(!), upgrade info, license clarity:
-HDD Sentinel, Process Lasso, XYPlorer. They are outstanding!
Process Lasso even has a built-in function, to determine eligibility to the nw version *prior* to updating.
I mean, everything is so smooth, it's a pleasure dealing w these cies,
Just saying ... ;)

K, stopping now, sorry for the long winded post ...
Peace! [w-out reservations :-) ]

J Hi Ray,

As Tortuga so rightly requests... please include dates on your 'Release Notes' page.

And include a 'Check for updates' button.

You already have 'Activate, Upgrade and Release License' buttons. A 'Check for updates' button shouldn't be too difficult.

Also, I purchased, installed and activated DiskFerret Pro 2 many months ago. On the Help | About screen, it still reads 'Installed for 0 days'.

Huh??? I installed it last year.

Thanks.

Nigel Blumenthal Mine also claims it's been installed for zero days, although I know I've used DF quite a lot over the last year or so...

Re-appearance on BDJ often prompts users to check whether they have the latest version, which I just did, and mine is also at 2.0.0.1. I echo the comments about ease of at least checking whether there's an update available.

However, I also have to add that I find DF an exceptionally useful utility; I'm able to easily see clumps of files occupying too much space, and locate areas of my increasingly crowded hard drive that are ripe for pruning. It's one of the utilities that I would put on my "must-have" list.

Ray Newman Nigel, Thanks for the kind words. After being scolded by a few folks here we definitely have a ToDo item to make checking for updates automatic. The best way to help me make that happen is to tell others if you like DiskFerret so that we can afford to add those types of nicities.

I'll check into the zero days issue. I believe that should not be displaying once the system is licensed, as we only display it for folks to know how long they been evaluating the software.

David Gilmour When I try to evaluate the scheduling feature, the application instructs me to install and start DiskFerret service. When I follow the dialogue to do that, the result is the message, "Unknown error, the DiskFerret service did not install". I have filled in the machine name, username and password fields correctly. Is this caused by the feature being unavailable in the trial version?

J Hello Ray,

Are you still actively developing DiskFerret? It seems like there hasn't been an update in a while.

DiskFerret is a very nice program but I wish it would:

1. maintain a 'maximized' window between sessions
2. have a 'check for updates' button within the program
3. have a link to website within the 'Help' menu
4. have a 'version history' on website
5. fix the 'installed for 0 days' bug within the Help|About menu
6. fix other various bugs

I hope you continue developing this nice program. It would be great to have the above items fixed or addressed.

Thank you.

Ray Newman Thanks for the feedback. We are still actively developing DiskFerret but have been busy with several other projects recently. We are currently in the process of converting DiskFerret to .NET to eliminate the need for Java.

We'll add a couple of todo items based on your suggestions.
A "check for updates" feature is already on our todo list as well as the 0 days issue.
There is a release notes page on the website, available via a link on the download page. http://www.diskferret.com...Notes.html

Ray Newman Tortuga, Sorry, no plans for a portable version with the .NET conversion. Now, if folks were willing to pay a premium for portability...

(probably means they are professional IT).

Tortuga @Ray Hi again
No, no IT Pro here, just prefer to have all my apps on my external HDD's PortableApps Suite. I've been moving ALL my apps to portable or finding alternatives that are, and only buy those that offer portable versions.

Well now, that's not a fair poll ... depends on 'how much' more, right? If I need to mortgage the house versus a couple of dollars more, makes a *big* difference !! ;)

Leland User I purchased DiskFerret the last time it was offered on BJD (Ver 1). I'm a little confused about today's offer, specifically the Upgrade ($4) and the Professional Version ($5). I don't think (but I cannot recall for sure) when I got it before if there was a Pro version or just a standard one. If I want the Pro features do I only need to buy today's $5 option? Or did I get the Pro version before and only need the upgrade? Thanks!

Ray Newman Leland User, We only started offering the personal edition (in addition to professional) with v2, so any upgrade from v1 is an upgrade to v2 DiskFerret Professional. The last time DiskFerret was offered on BDJ was v2 so if you're not sure of which version you own check the about box, or you can email supportdiskferret.com with your activation key and we'll look it up for you.

Ronn Blankenship Hi,

I received an earlier e-mail from DiskFerret advising me of today's BDJ offer and telling me I could enter my old activation code (which they provided in the e-mail) to get the $4 upgrade. Unfortunately, I can't find any trace of the old version on this machine: it looks like it may have been lost during that period around a year or so ago when three systems crashed in fairly short order. Can I still take advantage of this offer by using the old code or will I have to use the $9.95 offer?

Ray Newman Ronn, I responded to your email but will repeat here for others benefit.

Sure, you can still take advantage of the upgrade offer. Just click on the DiskFerret Upgrade to version 2.x link and enter your old activation key in the order screen. Additionally, there is no requirement for the older version to be resident in order to install the use the latest version once you receive a new activation code.

Bjondc I have DF 2.2.0.2 as an upgrade from an earlier BdJ promo -- is this the current version offered here?

I activated the license from the upgrade OK -- so why does the "About" (DiskFerret Prof 2.2.0.2) box mention "installed for 0 days"? I did install it yesterday (I'd forgotten all about it since suddenly getting a new PC when old one died) -- is that what the "0" means?
Nov 26 2016 at 10:26am Copy Link

Ray Newman 2.2.0.2 is the current version. The intent for the # of days installed was to let evaluation users know how many days they had used DiskFerret before their 30 days expired. Once licensed it (mistakenly) always displays 0 days.

Gary Smith The software developer has a Professional edition, a Personal edition, a Lite edition, and a Free edition.

Even though the word "Professional" is not used in the title, the regular price of $50 implies that the Professional edition is being offered here.

Nowhere on this offer, nor on the Disk Ferret website does it state what the current version is (no changelog or version information provided). The only hint is the upgrade from 1.x to version 2.x. Thanks to a user question, the current version is now known to be version 2.2.0.2.

A version number and changelog, plus a proper title in the offering would help potential buyers a lot. I like to see how long a product has been around, and how often updates have been made (all from the changelog). That information along with a clear update/upgrade policy (provided in the Fine Print) helps me to make a purchase decision.

CFGuy Question for Swooft Software Rep (or anyone knowledgeable about the program): Regarding licensing- EULA states "DiskFerret Professional is licensed per user … each license allows installation on 3 computers, but DiskFerret Professional may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them." However, on DiskFerret product website, its states [DiskFerret Professional] "continuously Monitor Drives." If the program does indeed "continuously Monitor Drives", how can it be installed (simultaneously) on up to 3 computers, but not be used at the same time? I'm assuming that the programs continuous monitoring of drives is exempt from being classified as "program use", and therefore a consumer could still have the program installed on 3 computers (simultaneously) and not run into problems with the "continuous disk monitoring" function. Am I correct? Also, the website mentions that the program provides "File Ownership Analysis". Does the program also allow a user to change file ownership properties (a task that I have found extremely frustrating in Windows 7 and later versions)? Having a program that would allow modifying file ownership values (more easily than done through Windows) would be a real plus. Thanks so much for addressing my concerns. -Cfguy.

Ray Newman CFGuy, Yes the continuous monitoring is exempt from the same time use statement. The general idea is that you should not be running the program interactively on different computers at the same time. Scheduled task and tack running from task manager are exempt.

We don't have a way to change the ownership. Sounds like that would be a good feature addition in a future release. We'll take a look at that.
