Stev'O Reading about the program, can cached signatures be cleared?

Is there a way to display the file date of each file? In the trail version I did not see the file date, while the web page for "How to use" states under step 6 that the "date of last modification" will be displayed.

Are there other options for marked duplicates files other then the default "The file with highest resolution is considered to be an original."? Higher resolution does not mean better quality with different codec being used on different files.

Stev'O I am running it on Windows 7 64 bit and it has not locked or stalled out on me. There just is not many options or adjustments with this program that I can tell. It is like the program just works or it doesn't. No settings to change in the program, it may be a codec thing in Windows that has made the program stop for you. I am just guessing though on that.

George Butel Will this program find the original video from which a segment was clipped and saved separately? I'm thinking of some videos that have the original file names given to them by the camera that I forgot to rename, so now I still have the originals, as well as shorter clips. In other words, I don't know which original the clips came from. I'd like to find the originals so I could correct my naming system.
Also, if, say, a video is identical, but with an extra audio track as another, will the program identify those as the same video-wise?

"It's Max from Bolide Software. We recently acquired "Visual Search Pony/Duplicate Video Search" project. According to our records, you have a license for either Visual Search Pony or Duplicate Video Search. I am glad that you joined our happy customers crowd :) You are welcome!

Let me know your suggestions about future development of Duplicate Video Search project. Any features you miss? Help us to create the road map :)"

Now, almost 16 months later, there have been NO program updates.

Max Smirnoff Current Duplicate Video Search version is quite stable. We are open for the suggestions for the new version. Bug reports are also welcome.
But, to be honest, I cannot promise for the really fast new version release. We are too busy with another projects.

@George, the program compare only video track, audio tracks doesn't matter. Also, the program actually processes only first several minutes in order to calculate the fingerprint, therefore it cannot detect , for example, the original clip and the last half of it saved separately

RS I purchased the program last night, but haven't been able to evaluate its effectiveness since it appears to get stuck (though not actually frozen) while detecting duplicates. I've contacted the developer just now, and I'll report back regarding my status.

RS As it turns out, after waiting for over 36 hours, DVS finally finished its search of my videos. Sure, I have a lot, but the process is slow. However, I was surprised to find that the software had, indeed, detected many, many duplicates in different formats and resolutions. So, the tool actually works! Now the cons: the interface is far too limited and needs considerable work--there is no context menu functionality for the files it finds, nor any ability to modify or clear check-box selections that are already made, thereby requiring one to delete files individually or else wade through thousands of checked boxes before deleting in batches. Clearly, DVS has a lot of potential, given that the fingerprinting technology clearly works, but the developer needs to commit to a new version in the near future since the refinements I point to are rather easy to add.

To Bolide: I would be happy to assist you in the task of refining the DVS interface, having designed other software interfaces over the years. I was skeptical that it would be able to detect the same videos in different formats, but it works as advertised. However, the current limitations make the tool far less attractive that it easily could be.

Techtoysavvy I keep getting a Haali splitter error so it does not work on my mkv files.
It did correctly identify 2 duplicate mp4 files. Unless I can get it to work on mkv file it is not much use.

I can try this on a pristine machine but my guess is that has something to do with which software is registered to handle mkv files.

Max Smirnoff @Techtoysavvy, Duplicate Video Search depends on the installed video codecs/filters in your system. You can either reinstall the codec pack you are using or try to turn off "Fast video reading" option.

Stev'O I bought this software from here before. Has there been any updates or on going development on this software? It looks like it is still at version 16. I had sent a question to the developer about the software and a request to show the file date of the files it matched, but I never received a reply back. In other words, I received no updates or advancement in software and no support. It is too bad because small things like file navigation and remembering where you did your last search at could be improved along with displaying more info about each file that it matches.

RS I second Steve Martin's comments. I, too, sent the developer several messages, one requesting support for some errors with Win 10 and two others addressing several simple improvements and offering my assistance in adding these features, but they were all ignored. I purchased this title over a year ago, and the same version is being offered today so it doesn't appear that there is any development in progress. This is unfortunate since the software itself, as rough around the edges as it is, actually works quite well, albeit too slowly when used with a large number of files. With a little work, there is no doubt in my mind that it could be improved dramatically. Even so, the sale price is worth it for what you get, provided it runs on your system. Just know that if you do make a purchase, you aren't likely to get any support.

Rick I purchased Duplicate Video Search last October as in impulse buy and without time to evaluate the trial. At a purchase price of $14.97, it would have been a very good deal if the program worked. However, after trying every permutation allowed by the very simple user interface, I inevitably uninstalled the program. The program yielded almost 100% false positives on every attempt and even failed to recognize one instance of a video that I converted to four different formats and placed in the same directory (i.e., without editing). I remain uncertain as to what “advanced video fingerprinting technology” is, other than a 100% fail based on my individual experiences with the program. I would not recommend purchasing this program unless you first try and achieve desired results with the trial version. I will try to follow my own advice in the future.

HJ B As far as I can tell, this program is of no use to me. It will only search designated folders. It will not permit a search of an entire drive or of several drives. What use is that?

Stev'O See old comments about this software. This should be free abandoned software. There is much better software out there for this purpose. Granted the newer supported software will cost more then this software, but it also does a way, way better job. If you look back at the old comments, you will see I purchased this software and even back then it was a waste of money. I had to buy different software that worked as this is abandon software with no improvements, no updates, no developments, and no support.

kydara I've purchased two of Bolide's products already... All My Books and All My Movies. When I ran into a problem using them and needed support, I sent an email and initially their support offered to help, but when I then provided them the details they asked for, they ghosted me. Weeks went by with repeated follow-up emails to them, and no response. Then I got an automated email from the "author" asking how I was enjoying their products. I replied to him/her and told them how I was getting no response from support, and...wait for it....crickets, even after multiple emails. They simply do not respond.

See many other comments in this thread complaining about their lack of support too.

So their software might work for you, or it might not. But if it doesn't, don't expect any help from them. Oh and no refunds so too bad for you.

Good software with bad (or nonexistent) support = worthless. Caveat emptor.

RS I have had the same experience as kydara. I purchased Duplicate Video Search (DVS) many years ago, and was generally pleased--it found duplicate videos of different sizes, resolutions, and formats. However, when I reached out to the developer several times with some issues and suggestions for future development, I was ignored.

Over the past two or three years, Bolide did release two updates, which supposedly increased the power and speed of detection; however, my system crashed repeatedly during scanning, which surprised me since my system never ever crashes. Sadly, when I contacted Bolide about the crashes, I never heard from them. So, as kydara observed: "good software with bad (or non-existent) support." I'll leave it to you to decide if that means Bolide's products are worthless.

The good news is that I recently found a superior alternative: Duplicate Cleaner 5, which recently added the ability to scan videos and detect duplicates. I found that it scans much faster than DVS, is more stable, and offers many more options to refine the scanning process at a price point comparable to DVS. I suggest that you check it out.
