Tim Smith If you do any work with Excel beyond some standard functions on small sheets, you need this program, it's as simple as that.

The unique features in the software have made it a critical part of my software toolbox by now, and it has saved me hours upon hours of work.

The developer is also extremely responsive.

BlackOpz WOW!! Looks like Digital Fusion that I use for Video. LOVE the Workflow. These type of tools make working with the data so easy that it EXPANDS your understanding. Yes. We would like to be able to input from and output to SQL databases. Hopefully in v2. But I can't promise any dates.

We recently implemented text file output. It is available in the latest snapshot from https://forum.easydatatransform.com/ and should be in a production release soon.

Yes you can input, output and apply all the 56 transforms to a tab delimited file.

Yes, if they have a key (e.g. an ID field). Just use the 'Subtract' transform to subtract on dataset from the other to see the difference. See:

Dunking I am very interested in this so have downloaded it for evaluation. As a quick test I have a security log which has 4414 lines: the first four are header info, the last is an empty row and the rest comprise two fields: a date/time stamp and logon information (either successful or something else).

I've added a row number so that I can then remove the first four rows. I then add a filter that looks for 'successful' at the start of the second files and removes that record. (I did this two ways: looking for 'successful' and removing, or looking for not 'successful' and keeping - both worked the same, as expected).

OK, so that seems to work fine, but my problem is it's slower than a snail on valium. Almost any action I do - hover, click, whatever - involves a pause of several seconds and the window drawing leaves a black box where an update should occur until things have caught up.

So, is 4K lines a seriously big file for this? Is there a way to not have auto-updating and instead have an 'update now' button?

Andy Brice Easy Data Transform waits until you have stopped making changes and then processes the changes. By default it waits 2 seconds for no user activity before processing. But you can configure the wait time in 'Preferences'.

Once it starts processing it is fast. We regularly test it with a million row datasets.

I haven't seen the black box you mention. What OS are you on? Any chance you could post a video or screenshot to our support?

Dunking OK, thanks. I had a play with some settings and unticked 'Trim whitespace' and 'SImplify whitespace' for the input, and it then worked at a decent speed. So then I tried each option in turn to see which was the culprit, but neither slowed it down appreciably (although there was some slowing). Then, naturally, I enabled them both again and nothing changed! Hmmm. Perhaps it was a first-run thing, not yet settled into a new home.

This is Windows 7 SP1. If I can replicate it again I'll pass something to your support.

Andy Brice Please do, we are keen to fix any bugs. Given that Microsoft no longer support Windows 7, we are unlikely to fix cosmetic issues that are Windows 7 only though.

Dunking I understand that W7 is unsupported, and I'm fine with that. It's the vendors that, for whatever reason, actively block W7 that can be annoying. However, in this case I think it's just a normal window update that gets blocked while whatever was slowing things down was happening, so not actually a bug.

I appreciate also your comment that whatever you might have on your to-do list, I would be purchasing for what the product does right now. So on that basis I just ordered it. Thanks :)

Andy Brice It is our policy not to make promises about future features and release dates, because you can never be 100% confident, especially with dates. ;0)

It does periodically check online for a more recent version and puts up a temporary window while doing so. Perhaps that could have caused the black box?

Frank User I have been using this software for over 2 years, and it just got better and better with every frequent update. Some of my suggestions even made it into the program. I do recommend this if you work with large datasets. My favorite features are filter, stack, remove columns and export to xlsx files. Thank you Andy Brice for all the love you put into this product.

MK Good software. I have Flow Heater v4 but found the workflow with Easy Data Transform to be simpler in achieving the same outcome.
Flow Heater has a wider range of input/ output connections (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQLite, MS Access) but if you don't need these (e.g., only need Excel, CSV, TXT, etc.) then Easy Data Transform is fast to and relatively straightforward to use.
And you get 3 licenses compared to 1 with Flow Heater (which is why I'll probably drop Flow Heater and go for Easy Data Transform).
Developer does also does Hyper Plan which I own, and I like the style of his software.

Andy Brice No. It can't read or write an SQL database directly. But it can generate SQL code to insert data into a database:

Adrian Williams Both Hyperplan and Easy data Transform are great at what they do. Not everyone's daily use software but invaluable when needed. I use EDT for comparing a monthly price list of over 500 items in Excel format using the template I can quickly locate any errors or price changes against our master file without the risk of damage to the master file. The master file is from Filemaker which I export as Excel. Ideally EDT being able to read Filemaker filles would be icing on the cake but no big deal. Highly recommended software in my opinion.

Tim Smith I agree with Adrian. If you use Excel in any even slightly tricky way you're likely to find EDT does it easier, faster and better. Also it is undaunted by files that are millions of rows. The help is good and most functions are very intuitive to use.
