Chris If we purchase this then why is this in the fine print?

Your receipt email will contain a link to download and install the software. This will not be accessible after the promotion has expired, so download it immediately.

I would hope the download would be available if and whenever I need it as I paid for it.

J Hello,

How many PCs can this be installed on?

Is online activation required?

Is there a demo version?

Is there a return policy?

Thank you.

Venkat User (1) It can be installed on 2 PCs.
(2) Yes, online activation is required. After installation, when you run ElectricVLab for the first time, it will prompt you to enter the license key. At that time, the PC is required to have an internet connection.
(3) Sorry; there is no demo version.
(4) Since this is a promotional offer, it will be governed by whatever return policy BitsDuJour has. I personally don't know what they are and hence would let someone from BitsDuJour to comment.

J Hello Venkat,

Thank you for your fast and detailed reply.

Is a transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed?

Also, during activation, is a hardware footprint taken?

And if so, is there a maximum limit on the number of installations per footprint?

And finally, could you answer Chris's question above?

Thank you.

Venkat User Transfer to another owned computer is allowed, but is currently not automated. But, if contacted, we assist in doing that.
The activation is tied to the machine.
There is no maximum limit on the number of times you can install on a particular machine.

The fine print referred to is from BitsDuJour and I am not the right person to answer it. But, the way I read it, it just asks you to download it "immediately". You of course come to possess the downloaded file and keep it. That seems to me like taking the possession of any goods soon after we purchase.

J Hello Venkat,

Thank you for answering my questions.

Since the 'Fine Print' tab doesn't seem to be accurate, can you explain, in detail, your Upgrade/Update policy?

The 'Fine Print' says:

'Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months.' Does this mean 'Upgrades' to Major versions 1.x to 2.x are free for 12 months?

Are all Minor Updates free?

Thank you.

Venkat User Hi J,

To tell you the truth, we haven't yet instituted a formal upgrade policy. So, let me just say what we have done so far and our general intent going forward. We released ElectricVLab only about 6 months ago and since then have released about 10 updates, small and big. We have kept all those updates free for customers who bought already. Going forward also, we do intend to keep the updates free for at least 6 months from the date of purchase, if not longer. I will just say that we try to go as far as we can to keep our customers happy and do whatever that entails (within the general bounds of reasonableness and practicality). That is the general intent and spirit behind my answers to all your questions.

Bit Fly Minor-version updates are always free (so their website).
And really: Do you think, they would write "updates free for 12 months", if they would expect a major version release the next 12 months ?

Sal Is there anyway to add components other than those you have listed?
I would love this program if it had relays (and their contacts), solenoids, motors and pumps.

J Hi Venkat,

Thank you for your generosity!

--Bit Fly - You are reading it wrong. It says 'Upgrades' not 'Updates' on the Fine Print tab. There is a difference. Upgrades normally are the same as a 'Major' versions and Updates are normally the same as 'Minor' versions.

That's why I asked in the first place. I found it unusual to offer free Upgrades for 12 months.

Lito I find it funny that I have no need for this program at all and I haven't built any bread board projects in like a decade or longer, but I am still tempted to buy this.

Venkat User Thanks Lito. By the way, even if you don't feel like building new circuits, try out some of the sample pre-built circuits using the "Load Sample Circuit" option under "File" menu. In fact, loading and viewing the sample pre-built circuits is a good way to get familiar with the software even for those who later want to build their own circuits.

RC If there are a "limited amount of licenses available" then please STATE THAT UPFRONT. I looked at this several times today, and when I finally went to purchase - I could not - because "registration limit exceeded." How about extending this for another day?

Venkat User RC: This is what really happened. I am not sure BitsDuJour really intended to put the limit. They probably did not expect to ever sell more than X units and hence had asked us to send X number of keys while setting this promotion up. So, we had sent them X number of keys. About 2 hours or so ago, we got an apparently automated email saying they are running low on keys and asking us to send more by email. We promptly emailed them more keys. But, nobody there seems to be reading emails. My repeated attempts at emailing them has not succeeded. So, all those still interested in getting a copy, please send us email at support@ electricVLab.com. After we discuss some logistic details with BitsDuJour folks, we will get back to you.
