What are people saying about Expert PDF 9

Dan Andrews This is a good deal for a really nice product, but how do you get minor updates, as the program has no update facility and all the demo versions are just that, they do not allow for the entry of the reg key, so what is the method???

Gary Elfring I visited the Avanquest web site and there is no answer to my question and there is no way to send them an email!!

So, if I create a pdf form with Expert PDF 6, can anyone fill that form out AND save the filled out form with the standard free Adove PDF viewer? (Can the email me a filled out form??)
Jun 10 2009 at 3:01pm Copy Link
0
Avanquest Software Re Gary Elfring:

I tested this for you. Yes, you can create a PDF form with Expert PDF and anyone can save the completed form via the standard free Adobe PDF viewer. However it can only be saved as a text file (I believe this is a limitation of the free reader and not Expert PDF). Then the completed text file with all the information entered in the form can be emailed to you.

I hope this answers you question - if not please reply.

Thank you.

Sorry, I meant to follow up on this! Yes, the disappearing download button is in fact your answer. Expert PDF doesn't actually have a trial download. However, Avanquest offers a full 15-day money back guarantee should the software prove unsatisfactory.

Dan Andrews Thanks Paula, but the question is how (or where) do you get the updates, as an associate has version 6 and cannot find how to update as there is no option to do so within the application and the demo version have no place to input a registration code, therefore i am worried that if i purchase the application that i could not update it as well, any help appreciated.

Avanquest Software Dan,

There is currently no upgrade to version 6. This is the latest version and, I believe, released not too long ago. When there is a version upgrade (from 6.0 to 7.0 for example) current users are eligible for a discount (version 5 users received 60% off version 6).

Dan Andrews Hi Paula, Wow excellent customer support here, most commendable. Let me apologise here as i forgot to add that the version that my associate has is 6.0.1290.0 and i believe that the latest version is 6.0.1550.0, no problem for me (i will be purchasing when the deal is active), but how would he upgrade to 6.0.1550.0.

Avanquest Software Dan, I'll find out how your friend can upgrade to 6.0.1550.0 (or if there is even a difference). Unforunately, offices with the answers are closed for the weekend. Will have an answer to you on Monday.

Mike G Roger, thanks for validating my attempt to read between the lines. :) To Avanquest, I would say lack of a trial version eliminates Expert PDF from my list. Nevertheless, I wish you good luck. Perhaps the feature list, reviews and 15-day money back guarantee will be sufficient for others.

Steve Forbes I purchased ExpertPDF some time ago via Avanquest (BTW, this is not a complaint about Avanquest and no reflection on their support/service). VisageSoft is another matter however they would not recognise me as a legitimate user, and were quite abrupt in their treatment of me. Do yourself a favour, avoid ExpertPDF (it is not that good anyway). I now use NitroPDF which is an excellent product.

Steve M. What's the difference between this and Avanquest's Nitro PDF Professional? I got PDF Professional for free (after rebate) last Thanksgiving at Fry's, so does this have anything PDF Professional doesn't?

L. N. I have the same problem as the previous e-mail. No license key given to activate the software after I purchased & downloaded it. Then I called "free," customer support on the 800 number & was given a long-distance 818 exchange (CA - I live in NY) number to call. I called that only to be placed on hold twice because she couldn't even find "Expert PDF V6," in her database! Are you kidding me?? Then she came back on the line and said she found it, but could not help me because it's a new product, and I had to call the product development specialist for them to assign the number to me. She gave me another phone number in CA & now I have to wait until they open (40 more minutes) and call the long distance number to SEE if they can help me. This is ridiculous. I paid for an instant access to this product and not only can I still not use it, it is COSTING ME MORE MONEY in long distance phone charges to get support just to access the product! You want to go through this to be able to use this software? You make the choice.

John Wilfong I purchased this for just a few functions. This is what I found when starting...Download is 6.0.1290.0, Comments above mention a 1550 minor update. I believe a purchase should include updates for at least a one year period with an obvious method of notifying the user of the update. This doesn't appear to Avanquest's business model.I was disappointed that there was not a printer driver to create a pdf out of any print job.I was looking for rotation. It is there.I was looking for extraction of pages. It is there.I was looking to see if I could scan directly to pdf. This is not there. Some work needs to be done on cleanup. The editor seems to create a temporary file with the name .~pdf but does not clean it up when you exit. The temp file is the same size as the original. I found this temp file was created in at least two instances: 1) Rotate the document (I rotated twice, essentially flipping the page) then save. 2) Select Save Optimized from the file menu. The program is actually 6 different programs: eXPert PDF Creator eXPert PDF Editor eXPert PDF to Word Convertor eXPert DBF Batch Creator PDF Settings Editor Watermarks EditorThere doesn't seem to be any sort of dashboard that brings all these pieces together. I feel these should be seemlessly integrated together. ie: I am viewing a pdf in PDF Creator and would like to save as a Word document. I would expect to select a menu option to this but with eXPert you would have to fire up the PDF to Word convertor, relocate the file, then convert. There is room in this aspect for improvement. Also, menuing systems are different from the tools such as PDF Creator and PDF Editor. PDF Editor uses the old and true toolbars with glyphs on them with a menu bar above. Creator has a menu bar on the left with static, larger, glyphs on the right. This gives the feeling you are in an entirely different program (which you are) written by an entirely different vendor. There is room for improvement in what is presented to the user that provides a feeling that these programs belong to each other.Overall I had no problems in the operation of the program. No crashes. No security problems with Vista. The programs seemed to work solidly. For the price it was well worth it and accomplished most of the functions I needed. The vendor should take the not so positive remarks for what they are meant for . . . product improvement. Add these to a wish list or bug/feature tracker.-- John

John Wilfong Correction to previous post.... There is a print driver for converting print jobs to pdf. I don't know how I missed it earlier.

When you select the eXPert pdf print driver it will bring up the eXPert PDF Creator program. From here you can click the save ican and save as pdf. It appears you can keep capturing output from multiple applications creating a print job of multiple pages, save the print job for adding to later, load a prior print job, or click save and save the entire thing to a pdf file. I have not tried doing this yet but it appears that this is what it does.

fran harter Hmmm.........

A bit tough in locating Expertpdf on the Avanquest website.
I went to avanquest and searched for about 5-10 minutes and no hits for expertpdf?!

I finally had to google it, then sort through the results to locate the Expertpdf link with Avanquest mentioned in it.

The link that listed it was www.avanquest.com/UK/soft...pert-pdf-6 ........................

So it anyone can't find it on the regular Avanquest link, try the UK avanquest link.

I already own the Nitro PDF creator/converter.

Does this do anything extra? Comparing Expertpdf to Nitro?

I didn't notice any comparison page.

I noticed this expertpdf is NOT 64 bit compatible.
Any idea if/when it will be?
[I just installed a 64-bit version of Vista on my home pc.]

Thanks.

Bob S This product has the poorest/most limited description of features I've seen. "Old comments" are not very reassuring either. Unrealistic to expect users to take the time to purchase if one can't at least see/read about certain features of interest. Also, no trial download. You would likely get a much better response on bdj and elsewhere if you provide adequate/any documentation.

The feature that I'd like to know more about is the ability to "fill in forms" on existing pdf documents. Can you describe/show how this is done?

Rick Truell "Create PDF
Expert PDF 6 is the complete PDF creator and PDF writer tool. It lets you create PDF files from any document that you are working on so that you can save and send your work securely."

PDF files are no more, or less, secure than any other type of file. In order to send a file ("your work") securely, you have to either encrypt it or send it using SSL. I saw nothing suggesting either SSL or encryption on their web site, so I doubt their claims of "securely".

"Edit PDF and modify
Once created you can view and edit PDF documents as easily as Word documents using the Expert PDF Editor."

"Convert PDF to Word
If you receive a PDF that you want to change, Expert PDF 6 enables you to convert PDF to Word using the PDF converter."

Ummm...if one can use Expert PDF to edit and modify PDF files, why would one have to convert PDF files to Word format in order to edit and modify them? Something fishy here.
