What are people saying about FastPaste 3

Michael Mortimer Since 2002 I have used a program called SureType by Rampell.

A few years back I guess RIM (the BlackBerry people) bought them because all of a sudden I saw SureType on the Blackberry Pearl. Now when I click in the program to go to SureType it goes to RIM's site. And once there there is no support for SureType product I have.

So for the past year I have been looking for a replacement for SureType since 1) there is no longer support for it; and 2) at some point it will not work with the newer operating systems, I assume (it works with Vista and XP).

So I will try this program out and post my impressions.

I'll tell you people, once you get used to this type of program it is impossible to go without it.

I use SureType to enter often repeated text, URLs, serial numbers for software, addresses in online forms, etc. One time I had about 50 final exams to grade. I promised comments on each students exams (submitted in Word format) on the questions they got wrong. Well after about three graded exams I said to myself "this is going to take forever."

What did I do? I copy and pasted a comment to each question into SureType and assigned it a shortcut number that corresponded to the exam question.

When a student gave a wrong answer all I had to do was type "01" and a backward slash (the key symbol I chose to tell the computer it was a SureType command) and the comment instantly was pasted into the student's exam. What a breeze.

Is this program the replacement for SureType that I am looking for? I'll get back to you on that.

Now I will type my SureType command that I use to end e-mails. I type "RMM" and the forward slash to insert:

Regards,

Michael Mortimer

Nick Kobe Hi!

Is the license per user or per computer? I have a desktop and a number of laptops that I frequently use and limit my software purchases to per user license.

Thanks!

Dextronet Hello Nick,

As long as you are the only person using the program, you can install it on all your computers. So it is per-user :)

Have a great day Nick!

Dextronet We've changed our licensing since then, so it's now same for all of our products. The old licensing applies to customers who purchased FastPaste in the past.

Staley Why the change it licensing? It seems like the other one would be easier and more beneficial for the user?
Since most users wouldn't be using the program concurrently.

Dextronet Staley: As I said, we want the same licensing for all of our products. I think that the licensing is still quite beneficial. We don't online activation, and you can transfer the product to another computer if you need to. All licenses are life-time and will never expire. Plus we have crazy 90-day money back guarantee.

Steve McMahan I seemed to have opened a can of worms here. If I needed to use this program on two computers, I would not really save anything over paying the regular price under the old licensing, i.e., not really the greatest marketing. Having said that, EITHER price is peanuts compared to the amount of work it has saved me just since last week when I ordered it. Bottom Line: Still a great deal for a good program and should I decide I really need it on a second computer, I wouldn't mind a bit paying the regular price for a single license. My thanks to the creator of this little gem.

Don Wilcox Is this special offer for the Standard or Professional version? If for Standard is there a special pricing for the Pro version also?

Is there a size limit to how large a clip can be saved? Sentence? Paragraph? Page?

Is there a 64-bit version or does both 64 and 32 bit use the same version?

Does FastPaste disable and replace Windows clipboard? Or will I have to learn new shortcut keys to cut, copy and paste? Does FastePaste work with context menu cut, copy and paste?

Thanks,
Don

Dextronet Hi Don: There is no limit on clip size. It works on both 32 bit and 64-bit OS (it's a 32-bit executable). It does NOT replace or disable Windows clipboard. FastPaste does not work with the standard context menu - it just adds you ability to quickly insert text phrases and other things using multiple ways - global hotkeys, buttons in FastPaste window, notification area menu, etc.

Software Guy This is a nice utility and it just became much better in this new version 3 which now sports multilines and supports form fill. Suggest you visit here
http://www.dextronet.com/fastpaste
and after checking that out read the features tab too - http://www.dextronet.com/...e/features
And yes, a more limited version of this feature is available in several popular clipboard managers... and yes, clipx is free and very cool with its plug ins, and so is orangenotes http://orangenote.littlesoftware.ca/ and others) but this is designed to work with your clipboard manger and has the continuous support of Dextronet - meaning top notch.
One more favorite that is somewhat similar conceptually are the keyboard expanders like Breevy by 16software, who also makes the excellent but specialized Icy Screen capture/send software.
OK, one more again - smart type assistant from http://blazingtools.com - free and interesting variant of a self learning breezy.
Not fond of the per computer licensing - hope that Dextronet would at least offer desktop plus laptop - but they do have a portable version. The new features of version 3 make this utility a must have, especially if you do any sort of repetitive typing - definitely recommended.

lisba f You claim that this version includes Unicode support, and that's true for the names I give to clips, but on the bottom of the FP dialog box, in the Last Active Window, the name does not appear correct: some characters are replaced with question marks.
Also I cannot find the way to save clip-arts, images or a page of a PDF file. I tried copy/past; I tried to drag them on FP but neither works. Is it something I'm missing?
Another question. I press Ctrl-1 or 2 but the # 1 or 2 clip does not paste in my Word file.
Apr 14 2012 at 6:25am Copy Link
0
Dextronet Lisba: I will investigate the "Last Active Window" label. The actual clips can contain Unicode. PDF files can't be stored in FastPaste, but you can store images. Edit the clip, and select the Image type of the clip, and THEN paste the image. Do you have some content in the #1 or #2 clip?
Dextronet - Apr 14 2012 at 6:28am Copy Link
0
lisba f Of course I put some content in the clips and then tried to paste them; I put latin and non-latin text but then pressing Ctrl + the appropriate numbers nothing seems pasted.
Apr 14 2012 at 7:00am Copy Link
0
Dextronet Lisba: That is strange. No one else has reported this issue yet. Perhaps you've changed the hotkey to something else? If not, then try that (you can change the hotkey in the Edit Clip window.)

Or perhaps you've disabled the AutoPaste using menu Options - AutoPaste on Global Hotkey?

Kelly Major I'm going to give this software a quick trial. I've used ClipMate since the beginning of time (g). I wish I had more time to trial it and still take advantage of the sale price.

Also, the per computer license is something I typically avoid. As a software developer myself I have 3 workstations here, 2 laptops, and I don't even know ho many VMs that have. I find that I want my tools like this to be on every OS image where I work but unless the trial results are astonishing in the short time I have I can't see myself buying 12 licenses just for myself. We'll see...

Dextronet VLM: The shortcuts can be customized in all editions. FastPaste is not a clipboard history tool - it's a tool for quick inserting of text and images and executing simple keyboard scripts.

The hotkeys are registered system-wide, which prevents most conflicts - FastPaste receives the registered key first, and Windows do not pass it to other applications. FastPaste does this in a smart way though - only the actually used keys are registered.
Dextronet - Apr 15 2012 at 11:06am Copy Link
0
VLM Thanks Jim, I appreciate your explanation. The conflict would still exist, though, but it would occur inside Outlook (or whatever other application). Honestly, though, there are so many applications with so many shortcuts, there are bound to be conflicts here and there. The use of global shortcuts exacerbates this problem for some, but I really don't see how you could make FastPaste work any other way.

I appreciate your comment about FP not being a clipboard history tool. FastPaste can/does pick up content from the clipboard though, yes?

Thanks again!

Jeff Titamer I've purchased Fast Paste with one lisence and absolutely love it! And I only use it for a couple of things... accessing my password safe and entering my email address, so far. I have arthritis so it helps ease the pain and makes things so much easier and faster! Another great utility that compliments this offer is StickyPassword Pro. Now that I use these two programs my fingers are starting to feel better.

Will FastPaste be going on sale again soon? I would like to get some more licenses. Hopefully it will go on sale again when I have some money in my bank for it. I get paid by SS Disability, once a month so I hope I don't miss out because it's on sale at the end of the month when I am most likely low on funds either.

Amit Hello,

Is it like a macro software ? Only the pro version can be thought of like a macro software or the standard as well ?

Also does it also store clipboards ever copied - and all clipboard data ever copied - even 2 months ago or there is the 300 clipboards data limit ?

And can all functions and clips or assigned texts be pasted from the system tray icon - i really dont like playing with too many hotkeys.

Can it be used to replace a password manager and form filler too - is it in that category too ?

Thanks.

Dextronet Hi Amit,

The Pro version can execute keyboard scripts, the Standard version is only for inserting text/rich text/images.

In both Standard and Pro, you can use time tokens to construct your own time/date stamps.

Yes, you can access most functions via the system tray menu, directly from the window (which can be docked as a sidebar, or set always on top), or using a single global hotkey which displays global paste menu.

No, FastPaste doesn't store clipboard history.

And yes, you can use it for storing passwords and logging into applications.

"There is no limit on clip size"

I can't do better than a 32kb txt snippet limit. Sorry, others look more appealing even as a 3rd or 4th clipper than this, esp now with the updated FP user policy..
Aug 8 2012 at 2:44am Copy Link

Dextronet Glen: Plain-text clips are capped at about 32kB, which is something like 1000 lines of text. That should be plenty. But even if you need more, you can use the Rich-Text format (when you copy it, it is placed as plain-text into the clipboard as well).

Roberto The autopaste feature does this in my computer:

1. i open notepad and fastpaste (side by side).
2. i press the copy button (the autopaste is checked in options)
3. it works 1 time each 5 or 6 (i have to press many times until the text is pasted)

is there some delay or script that i can set for proper paste?

im on xp sp3, and i think fastpaste 3 is pasting the text while the active window still is not active (only my guess)

i wish to use it side by side, with hotkeys works fine.

VLM Jiri,

Can clips be stored in a hierarchy (folders, categories, or the like), so that s/he can effectively use keyboard sequences (combos) to navigate to a desired clip?

For example, I may have several hundred clips all related to a particular topic or activity. I would wish to get to that folder/category, where I would see subfolders/subcategories and perhaps a few common clips (common across all the subcategories). The next keystroke would open one of the subfolders/subcategories, etc., until I arrive at what I seek. Sort of like navigating a menu tree.

??

Dextronet Robert: Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the issue on my Windows 7 machine nor Windows XP machine. Do you use any shell extension software which could slow-down application switching?

Specifying a delay is currently not supported, but we could probably add it in the future.
Dextronet - Aug 8 2012 at 5:53am Copy Link

Dextronet VLM: Because FastPaste is designed towards heavy keyboard use, it has rigid structure: 30 clips per file. It also has 10 hotkeys for switching files, so you can have up to 300 clips accessible via keyboard. There is no hierarchy.

Roberto Jiri: i'll try to disable processes.

Would be great to allow setting some delays from scripting (some java applets that i use require "kind and paused" writing, not only sending "key by key" its paused enought.

Brad Cannot Pay though PayPal via the BTMicro Order Summary screen, it just sits there, after I put in my PayPal password it acts likes it wants to login to PayPal to finalize the purchase. But invariably it fails to connect to PayPal. Tried 5 times with no success.

I checked to see if I could login into my PayPal account from another browser window on the same machine and I am able to get into my PayPal account just fine. But when I try to make the purchase through Buy Now it will not complete the purchase.

I kind of liked the program guess I catch it nextime.

Dextronet Danny: FastPaste is designed to help you save time, by enabling you to paste frequently used text, rich text and images using global keyboard shortcuts. You can also execute keyboard scripts (e.g. for filling forms). If your current software can't do this, FastPaste might be interesting to you.

bvssunnydale Hi, does this monitor keyboard activity and expand abbreviations (like Shortkeys, Phrase Express, Typemate) or insert text/scripts based on only predefined keyboard combinations (like ClipCache, or Spartan Clipboard)?
Jan 16 2013 at 3:10am Copy Link

Dextronet Hi, FastPaste does not monitor the keyboard activity. It works using the global hotkeys for pasting clips/images/rich-text or executing scripts. And you can setup the global hotkeys beforehand.

For example, the default global hotkey for the first clip is Ctrl+1. You can change it to anything else, too.

Ernest Kennedy I purchased this early last year from BDJ and it was my first purchase on BDJ and I love this app for its simplicity of use and the fact that the pro edition encrypts delicate info like passwords, email address's and such like.
Once you get to grips with the way this app works you'll wonder how you can do things like like pasting boiler-plate letters and other texts.
For the encryption capability of the pro edition alone makes the pro edition worth buying.

Chris Roy Jackson Jiri, I've been a very happpy user since I purchased the Pro (3 Computer) Version last April with only ONE Exception.
I was wondering if you could make one small change in the installation Process.
(Actually One of two)
Either
1. Change the File Extension for the data File (" .fp ").
OR (I think you'd rather go with this 2nd option)
2. Do NOT Hijack the (" .fp ") extension as a file association during Install. It is NOT Necessary.

The reason I'm requesting this is that for almost 20 years I have been using a program called FinePrint. It's File extension has always been (" .fp "). I need that association when I want to open a saved file from a shortcut (or recent documents).
When I spotted the problem, I went into File Associations and changed the reference BACK to FinePrint, and now it works fine WithOUT ANY adverse Effect in FastePaste.

Again I LOVE this Software and recommend it to everyone I know. I purchased it here last April 15th and never looked back.
Thanks for a great product Jiri !!!

Noggin The Nog What functions are available for use in the creation of 'scripts' in the pro edition? Could I for example have a script that would create a new email in outlook as well as add to that email the usual salutation, valediction, etc.
Jul 25 2013 at 2:36am Copy Link

Dextronet Noggin The Nog - You can use regular letters and numbers in the scripts. Any text you type into the script, the script will send key-by-key when executed.

Beside the regular letters, you can also utilize token codes.

There are 2 kinds of tokens: Keyboard tokens, and time/date tokens.

Keyboard tokens represent keys on your keyboard. For example, the token {ENTER} represents the Enter (Return) key.

The answer is yes, you could create a script that would create a new email in Outlook as well as add text to the email.

In FastPaste edit the first clip.

Set the clip Type to Script.

Insert there the script with {TAB}s from the post above.

Press OK (the edit window has to be closed for the clip to work).

Dextronet It should work every time, unless the Edit window for the corresponding clip is open.

The can't activate last active application message appears in scenarios where the clip can not be pasted to the last active application (if auto-paste is active). If you open outlook and press the clip's global copy hotkey, there shouldn't be any problem.

Noggin The Nog I think you are right. Thank you. It works now. It should be a most useful tool for creating new emails and word documents, using hotkeys, tokens etc to enter things like current date etc

Is it possible to paste a section of text or html into a script by selecting at the point of insertion the text or html button, instead of having to type it all in with scripted {enter} commands? In other words, can you select different modes at different points in the clip?
Jul 25 2013 at 6:06am Copy Link

Noggin The Nog Is there any way of getting word to align right and then insert the current date in the format of 25 July 2013, and then align left again?
Jul 25 2013 at 7:06am Copy Link
0
Dextronet Yes, the aligning is easily done in the WYSIWYG editor for Rich Text clips, however not on the same line. You can formate the text as you would in Word.

If you use the %DATE% token it will insert the date in your system format. You could also use %DD% %M% %YYYY% but you would get 7 instead of July. You can currently get FastPaste to write the month as a word only if you set your default Windows format to that - or change the clip manually at the beginning of each month to write July/August etc.
Dextronet - Jul 25 2013 at 10:51am Copy Link

Noggin The Nog Do you mean that it cannot easily be included in the script clip?

My system long format date is fine, but word uses the short format instead of the long. How do I get it to choose the long format?

Writing a new key into the registry as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/134910 did not seem to help. And word appeared in office 12 not office 8.

I could use the %Date% token, but that invokes the short date format, and requires me to use both script and copy clips.

Alt+Shift+d inserts the date in my long format, which is fine, but Control+R, which according to http://office.microsoft.c...47626.aspx should Switch a paragraph between right-aligned and left-aligned does not seem to apply so as to right justify the date field.

Where now?
Jul 25 2013 at 11:56am Copy Link
0
Dextronet The %DATE% token works in both, the Rich Text and Script clips.

I think for Word Alt+Shift+D = CTRL+R = ENTER = CTRL+L is what you're aiming for.

If you require further assistance, please contact me via email (or use the support contact form in FastPaste). I believe this is not the right place for this kind of conversation.

D I downloaded your trial but it's not grabbing anything from the clipboard; i.e. ctl+v doesn't put any text into FastPaste but it is on the clipboard. The only way I can get text into the FastPaste app is by manually pasting them there. This can't be the way it's supposed to function. FastePaste can pull from the clipboard, right? D - I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to accomplish. FastPaste is a clipboard utility that allows you to quickly paste predefined clips (text, images, rich text) using a hotkey into any Windows application. You have to set-up the clips first. You can also create scripts in FastPaste.

Dextronet Aside from the clips, FastPaste also has tools that you can use to work with the text in your clipboard. That could be called a clipboard extension. While I understand that you want to inform users on the option to upgrade, leaving the disabled options active in the menus and toolbars to me really gives the SW a 'shareware' feel. Steve M. Like Jaap Aap, I would also like automatic clip archiving (call it "Fast Copy"). I would also like the ability to have more than 30 clips per projects. I've been using the freeware Clipboard Magic and it allows both.

Unfortunately, Clipboard Magic only supports plain text, so no Rich Text, no images and no scripting.

I'm considering FastPaste, but I don't want to lose function, especially if I'm paying. If FastPaste had that Fast Copy option (maybe an "auto-capture" project) and the ability to define the size of my projects, you might have a buyer.

Petr Hello Jiri,
Are you saying that pressing Ctrl-C does not load the selected text to FastPaste? If I want to utilize FastPaste, I would do as follows:
#1. select text, graphics, rich text or URL
#2. Use Ctrl-C to copy to clipboard
#3. open FastPaste, create a new 'item' and usDe Ctrl-V to paste to the new item in FP

Can you direct me to a video showing how it is used. I don't like installing trails on my main computer. I just want to understand it's use before deciding if I want to purchase.

If I buy the 3 PC license, is there a way to copy my FP library or database to another PC easily?

How else does FP differ from a Clipboard Manager utility?
Thank you
Jun 28 2014 at 2:55pm Copy Link
0
Dextronet Steve, you can create hotkeys to switch between different projects (up to 10) so you can basically have 300 clips accessible via shortcuts.

Petr, Ctrl+C loads the text into Clipboard and you can do a few operations with it (reverse, lower/upper case, capitalize, make sentences) using FastPaste. However if you wish to store the text in a clip, you have to open FastPaste (you can do so using a global hotkey) and paste it into a clip. You don't have to create clips, these are already there, like you can see on the first screenshot above.

You can easily move your clips between computers. Simply move the project file to another computer (or use Dropbox) and open it.

I don't know which Clipboard Manager you want to compare FastPaste to, however you can also have rich text and images in your clips. If you decide to go with the Professional edition you can create scripts. You can create a script that will for example open Outlook, create a new email and write the subject and email body, all with a single press of a shortcut triggering the script.

singularity Is this a clipboard manager too? That saves all that is copied? Or a tool to manage favorite and commonly used clips?
How is the license designed? For an year or for all version 3?

Dextronet The license is for life time (for version 3).

FastPaste isn't a clipboard extension tool, it doesn't save clipboard history.

Chris Roy Jackson All I can say is GET it !!!
I've been using this for about 2½ years now and I'm VERY happy with it!
FYI: Then current Version is v 3.131
and I started with version 3.03 ( FastPaste 3 Professional 1-user-3-PC Pack @ $35.98 ), so it is highly unlikely that you will be "pushed" into a new version upgrade purchase anytime soon!
The program has several hotkeys available and allows for multiple "Databases", so that you could switch Databases for different purposes, languages, etc. (Use your imagination!
NO !!! I have NO relationship with the creator... just a satisfied customer!

By-the-way ( for the Jiri ):
I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 YET... Will this current version function well on the Windows 10 Platform ???
Thanks to Jiri and Bits for a GREAT Product !!!

Dextronet I'm not quite sure I understand, perhaps you could contact me on our support email.

If it says you're on the latest version, you most likely are.

There are no separate full/trial version installations. The trial is fully functional, the 30 day trial limit is removed once you enter your license. So you can simply download FastPaste from our website.

Dextronet Tim, I don't really know these programs. Nevertheless FastPaste can also be fully portable. You can see FP features here: http://www.dextronet.com/fastpaste

Perhaps the other programs don't allow you to create scripts? From a quick glimpse they have some extra features, and miss some that FP has, so it really comes down to what you're personally looking for and which software allows you to do it in the most convenient way for you.

wts,FP doesn't allow direct copying/pasting from anywhere. FP allows you to paste clips, which you have to create first.

MK I have FastePaste and PhraseExpress Pro.
PhraseExpress is a lot more powerful (e.g. you can copy field codes from MS Word and add them to PhraseExpress, and PhraseExpress will retain the formatting for field codes when you later past them into Word. So a refresh in Word and the fields update. Tables, Figures, etc., are so easy to add and automatically number).
Downside is PhraseExpress is a lot more expensive and a bigger memory overhead.
So I keep FastPaste running for quick stuff; and PhraseExpress for more complicated stuff like technical authoring.
You pays your money...

Robert Crombie I wrote my clipboard program years ago with VB6. It is called "ClipBuddy"
I even have the domain (www.ClipBuddy.com) which I have never used
Never got around to selling the program (my middle name is Lethargy)
However I use it all the time.
I perused your screenshots, and you do not appear to have an important feature (may I say vital feature) -
The ability to click a stored clip, and your program gets out of the way (returns to where it came from), and pastes the clip into the textbox (or whatever) on the active form.

Just sayin,
Rob
PS The program does not require installation. You just put it into a folder such as C:\ClipBuddy\

J Hello,

It seems like there might be a problem with the current version (3.14).

When I check for updates, it says that there is a new version available:

Current Version: 3.14

Latest Version: 3.14

Released on: 2/17/2015

The 'Download Update' button is enabled, allowing you to download the 'new' version, which is the same as the current version.

Thank you.

Petr I have your Swift To-Do list and am impressed with your very thoughtful use of hot-keys and improvements to work-flow with minimal effort. Very intuitive software.

For this reason, you have my interest in today's deal for FastPaste. I would appreciate your answers to my pre-sale questions below:

Q1: Does FastPaste have a "history of my Clipboard" feature? I would like to view and re-use items I've previously had in my clipboard.

Q2: I currently have Windows 8.1 Pro. I will be upgrading to Windows 10 Pro soon via in-place upgrade (Microsoft's free upgrade). Can I leave FastPaste and Swift-To-Do-List installed such that the Win 10 upgrade will not be affected (and FastPaste + Swift TDL continue to operate)?

Q3: Is the 1 User Pro for FP just for one of my own PCs? Or, do I need the 1-user-3-PC package for more than one of my own personal machines?
Mar 10 2016 at 8:00am Copy Link

Dextronet Hi Petr,

Q1: No, FastPaste doesn't keep a history of your clipboard.

Q2: Our software is fully supported by W10.

Q3: Yes, a single license is for 1 user and 1 computer. Unless it's the 1-User-3-PC Pack.

Petr Hi Jiri, I purchased your FastPaste while it was on sale. It's great and complements your other software on my system (Swift Todo List). But, I can say I'm missing a feature in FastPaste. Please add this to your list of future features for FastPaste:

#1. Clipboard History to enable auto-adding 'Copied' or 'Cut' items to an editable history.

#2. Paste from History or from FastPaste items.

Alternatively, if you are not adding these features, can you recommend a Clipboard Manager that is compatible with FastPaste3 ?

CFGuy Hi- this program looks like it offers some excellent features at a very good price-point. My question is: I am a current, longtime user of the Thornsoft companies' "ClipMate" clipboard program, which although very robust, does not offer some of the nice features that "FastPaste 3" does. Can the 2 programs be used together, at the same time, or would there be conflicts and interference between the two? If you would please let me know, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much for your help with this. -CFGuy.

Robert Crombie I am trying the Trial before purchasing. Two questions -
1) Can I toggle Capture ON/OFF ?
I do not wish to capture remember everything all the time. If I am about to capture something that I feel is "Storing Worthy", I would like to Toggle capture on. I would probably Toggle capture off straight after. If you really wanted to please me, a Toggle for single capture only would be terrific.
2) Can we control where the database of clips is stored ?
I would like to do this for two reasons -
So I can keep an eye on the size of the file(s)
So I can back them up

Dextronet SoftCollector, the Professional edition allows you to create and run scrips, and also to encrypt your database.

Robert, FastPaste doesn't capture anything automatically.so I don't think I understand your capture question. You can create as much databases with clips as you like and you can store them wherever you like, you can also get a fully portable version of FastPaste and carry it with you.

Dennis McKay @Felix User Sometimes You have uninstall the software package that requires the updated .NET because it sets a key that looks for something. I would recommend using RevoUninstall Pro Trial (unless you own it) to uninstall Fastepaste since it will search for registry keys and leftovers after uninstalling. Then check Features to make sure it shows FW 3.5 installed. Reboot and install Fastpaste. If that doesn't work you may have a problem with Windows 10. I don't run 10, removed it from all my computers, even the new ones I just bought. I have been running Windows since version 1.03 and 10 is the absolute worst, IMHO.

MK I've been trying quite a few clipboard managers recently, and have came back to FastPaste 3. I have PhraseExpress and PhraseExpander also, but these are heavyweights with a heavy cost. Something quick just to drop in frequently used phrases, in formatted Rich Text.

There are cheap and also free managers out there, but I like FastPaste's approach.
You can have as many "project" files as you need. And you can have up to 10 favourite files quickly selectable from the menu icon bar. So switching between files for specific uses is quick and easy. And you can have up to 30 clips in each project file.

Clips can be plain, rich text, script and images. Hotekys can be assigned to clips too. You can select a clip from within the main window, or Ctrl+Shift+V makes a pop-up window appear beside your cursor, with a menu of clips to quickly select from.

Downsides: you can't mix Rich Text + images in the same clip.

In Swift-To-Do (by Dextronet who make FastPaste) the Rich Text editor can support MS Word field codes. But FastPaste does not. So if you want to insert a clip with a formatted table and Table caption, MS Word won't see the Table as being a caption and so won't number it accordingly. (Same with other field codes, e.g. it doesn't recognise field codes from EndNote, whereas Swift does).
Use the same Rich Text editor used in Swift To Do that can handle MS Word field codes, and FastPaste would be great.

Jun 27 2019 at 3:01am Copy Link

MK @Kark M: Yes, Ditto is very good. But I did not like the way the view of the Group disappeared after a clip was used and you had to View Groups again (although there is quick hotkey to show it) . FastPaste "groups" by project file which can be quick accessed by menu icon (a drop down menu showing project file would have been better).
Also Ditto editor is very small on a 3200 x 1800 laptop, whereas FastPaste looks fine.
If you want something for free, Ditto is highly recommended.

HJ User There are modifications that improve software and their are modifications that fix bugs The fact that software has not been modified for a few years does not, in itself, mean that the software is of poor quality. Maybe, just maybe, the software does what it says it will do. If so, it may be for the best that it is not going through modifications of style or substance. The old adage is "If it's not broke, don't fix it".

I do not use this program, but I wish that those who complain about there not being any updates would specify what kind of update is warranted and why.

I am a fan of your other programs, and "FastPaste 3" looks very interesting at a very reasonable price point. My question is this: I am a longtime user of Thornsoft Development's "ClipMate" clipboard replacement program. I use it every day, multiple times a day and don't think that I could live without it. Having said that, it is far from perfect, and lacks some of the features that your "FastPaste 3" program includes. If I were to purchase and install your " FastPaste 3" program, could it be used in tandem with "ClipMate", or would I have to uninstall or not use "ClipMate" in order to install or use "FastPaste 3"? Please let me know about this, when you have a chance. Thanks so much. -Cfguy

HJ B According to their website, scripts, encryption and some other, undefined features are only in the professional version.

Encryption only applies to "projects". What is a project, as that term is used here?

CFGuy @Dextronet - I am a huge fab of Thornsot's "ClipMate" program (have it constantly running on my computer 24/7). How would "FastPaste" interact with ClipMate? Can both be running at the same time, in tandem? Would one likely cause problems or limitations with the other program? Please let me know as I love clipboard programs and would love to give yours a try, but not if i have to stop using "ClipMate", or if the use of both programs in tandem will cause problems and limitations with either. Thanks. -Cfguy

bvssunnydale Wow, Clipmate was last updated to ver 7.5 at 8-5-15. You could consider something a bit more modern - though newer isn't always better.. [maybe FastPaste, maybe not].

Robert Bull The description for FastPaste makes it sound more like a boiler-plate text program than a "Super Clipboard!" clipboard manager. Which is the main purpose of the program, please?

Also, what is the date of the current version? The Bits blurb says " tokens, such as "{YYYY}" for the current year (2012)!" I know that's an example, but it's ten years ago...

William W. User The program installs itself (no choice of destination folder) into the Appdata\Local folder . I moved it to Program Files, where it functioned normally. Apparently it is portable.

Charles Beauchamp "Unlimited Projects"

Questions:

Can HTML files with hyperlinks be imported as a "clip" and be exported to HTML with hyperlinks intact?

Lets say I have 10,000 projects (all HTML files with hyperlinks to clip files) with 30 clips (all HTML files with hyperlinks) per project:

How do I access by title of project and by title of clip? Do you have a title search capability?

How many scripts do you allow? How does one search for a script to activate?

Is one pro license lifetime?

How much for unlimited pro license that can be deployed on flash drives for use in the education of 100,000's of students?

Donald User This is a very useful program. I used it in an office environment to manage about, It worked great. You may not be able to memorize what all 30 "slots" have in them, but it's easy enough to pull the program to the front of your other windows and scan quickly to see which one has your desired text, then use the hotkey to paste it where you want it. I've only found one other similar program at a similar price.

The support from Dextronet was great, too, when I needed it (when I moved it to another PC).
