What are people saying about File Sharing Pro

Jan Gortes What about license which will be offered on line only.
1. Can I reinstall 1AVShare with the same license on the same PC ?
2. I have dual boot (Windows XP and Windows Vista).
Can I use the one license to install 1AVShare on both Win XP and Win Vista site of the Dual Boot or do I need 2 licenses then ?

Thank you very much

2. One license. It is the same computer therefore only one license.
Alex Ferri is it lifetime updates?
No. Free updates are valid for one year.

Alex Ferri No, the version you purchase today is yours foverver. After one year from today if and only if you want to update to the latest version is that you will be required to pay. Hope to have answered your question. Let me know if you need any further information.
hansj nielsen That not woot i ment. There must be an server to upload the files, pictuers and stuff like that, normal they cost every year $. to rent space ???
or do you say, onse i have pay for the program, i have a free server place to upload stuff, for free the rest of my life ??

Greg Brown hansj: your personal computer IS the server. You share the files directly from your PC - no third party is involved.

Alex Ferri Like Greg said, no thirdy party is involved, the space required is on your hard drive.
Isaac Zac does it let you use your ip as the server or is it only local like in the screen shots(192.168.1.100)?

Alex Ferri In order to make it public you have to set up a port forward on your router. The program recognizes your external public IP to form the URL but in order to access the website from anywhere you must do a port forward on your router. To consult instructions just visit:
portforward.com, skip the ads, and then select your router model and select default instructions that will teach you how to program your router to make the port forward.
Isaac Zac Can you edit the CSS and html of the site to make it fully customizable?
Jul 14 2012 at 9:29am Copy Link

Alex Ferri No. The website is customizable in terms of colors and fonts. There is a dialog in the program only for customization, but the code is not opened to be edited.
Yfor A word of warning: The installer might (as it did for me) install random browser hijackers (brower add-ons and bars) in each of your browsers, along with other annoyances, even if you do un-click the default option to do so. I uninstalled everything before even trying it out.

Alex Ferri First you register at the registration page then

You can request keys from inside the program like in this video demonstration:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/...gister.asp

Step-by-Step
----------------------------------------
Trial dialog Click ‘Register’ Mark ‘Send key to my e-mail’ Click ‘Next’ Then enter the e-mail address you used to register Then click ‘Send’.

The key is sent to your e-mail address.

After you receive the key you go:

Trial dialog Click ‘Register’ Mark ‘Enter key’ Click ‘Next’ Then enter the key you have received on your e-mail Then click ‘Authenticate’.
----------------------------------------

Or you can log into the control panel here:

Hanzl Kay - Cant change webserver root folder even when run as Administrator
- To many registery keys are created (all settings are made in registry)
- Uninstall brings you to a page where you are asked "Did you like 1AVShare" but you only can vote for yes.

Tip: Dont forget to unselect "install Babylon toolbar" during install.

Sue James Hi Alex, you mentioned configuring a router. Can this software be used without a router, but with an ADSL modem instead? Or is a router a mandatory requirement for setting up my PC as a server?
Cheers
Sue

Alex Ferri Yes, if you have a direct connection to the web then there is no need for router configuration. Just publish the website with the global IP and it will be accessible from anywhere.

Best,
Alex
Hanzl Kay Downloaded again but problem stays. Can not change Storage root folder. Says "Admin privileges needed". But i installed it as Administrator and ran it as Administrator (Windows 7 - 64b).

Next to this the uninstaller should do a better job.
Some folders are left on your pc and registry keys are not removed.
Jul 15 2012 at 6:14am Copy Link
0
Alex Ferri If it says 'Admin privileges needed' it means the program is not being run as administrator. I have seeing this happen on Windows 7. Instead of running the desktop shortcut as administrator, try to run the 1AVShare.exe from the installation folder with admin rights.
Sue James Hi again Alex - many thanks for your reply. I have one other question to ask. Given the fact that we self-host our own site, and also have self-hosted blogs (all housed in Wordpress) we are currently able to share files via those sites - also using password protected folders or pages if necessary. Does this mean that using 1AVshare would be somewhat redundant for us? :)
Jul 15 2012 at 6:34am Copy Link
0
Alex Ferri One of the advantages of 1AVShare is to be able to share exe files, something that browsers usually don't get along too well, so that could be an advantage for you otherwise I guess it would be kinda redundant.
Leslie Milburn I ordered this product as I am interested in this product.

BUT unlike other BitsDuJour offers I did not get a confirmation email. I am not very happy about that because at the very least I would like to receive the order number sent to me via an email.

So, using the on screen instructions I created an account and finally after verifying, I managed to find my way to the "Control Panel of Customer" where I found my order Number.

Ok some progress at least.

Now when I request the Registration Key it mentions a hardware fingerprint. So I thought I had better watch the video on how to register.

And yes, I see from that video clip that this software uses a hardware fingerprint. I also see from the Policy tab that "1AVShare may be used indefinitely".

Question:
So what happens if the hardware changes so that the fingerprint changes. Will I be able to request a new key etc without charge.

Question:
I suspect that even though you have to validate the software upfront, the fact that you can change the fingerprint to reallocate the licence implies to me that the software "phones home" on a regular basis to ensure that it is still the valid copy.

Can you reassure me that this software is not phoning home ?

Sorry but I am uneasy about this process which I think is convoluted and in fact distracts from what could be a great product. Please ally my fears.
Jul 15 2012 at 6:58am Copy Link
0
Sue James Thank you - that's clarified things for me. I'm sure 1AVShare would be a great asset for those who don't self-host a domain, but in our case I guess we'd have no use for it really, as we don't need to share .exe files. All the best - and thanks again!
Jul 15 2012 at 6:58am Copy Link
0
Alex Ferri In response to Leslie Milburn.

The software does not phone home and you can install it on all your personal PCs. For each one or if the hardware-fingerprint changes all you have to do is request a key to be sent to your e-mail address like in this video demonstration:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/...gister.asp

Step-by-Step
----------------------------------------
Trial dialog Click ‘Register’ Mark ‘Send key to my e-mail’ Click ‘Next’ Then enter the e-mail address you used to register Then click ‘Send’.

The key is sent to your e-mail address.

So, no, there is no phoning home.

Best,
Alex
Watcher1924 Please provide some help about the CAPTCHA code. As far as I can remember, only on one more site I had such a big problem with it! Last time I was at your registration page (for another product of yours) I managed to submit my registration info after many frustrating tries but now I have forgotten how I did it. What am I missing here? It needs spaces between the characters? It needs lower case? I don't get it...

Mario Balzic Do I have to install the trial software before I can get the registration key sent to my email? I already DID the register thing, put in a password for the account and I got an activation link and then when I tried to get the activation key sent as you described above, it wants a HARDWARE FINGERPRINT. Why for? You said nothing about this hardware fingerprint in the steps listed to get a key sent to my email. So, how exactly do I get this key I will eventually need when I return home and can actually try the software? If I have to install the software FIRST, then I'll just have to pass on this offer...

You sure want me to jump through a lot of hoops here... I realize this is a FREE offer, but still, WHY is it so difficult to get a key sent to my email address? Why do I have to have a hardware fingerprint which apparently comes from the software after it is installed as a trial version? I read all of the comments above, and NO ONE else said anything about this hardware fingerprint. Let's say I eventually get the key and install everything. What happens if I want to uninstall on one machine and then install on another? Will the key I eventually get work on the 2nd machine, or will I need ANOTHER hardware fingerprint and key?

Are all of these hoops the price I have to pay?

Mario Balzic @alex ferri-

Sorry, your lack of an answer regarding the hardware fingerprint I asked about, tells ME that apparently I must install the trial software package FIRST and THEN request a key. Too bad. I am not in a position to install it right this minute, nor will I be for a day or two. Apparently you are not in a position to send the key. It certainly is NOT as simple as you SAY it is. And, you failed to answer the question about moving the software from one computer to another. Which tells me, I'll have to jump through even MORE hoops a second time to get a new key...

This is just TOO much time and effort. From what I've learned so far, that you literally lock the software to a specific computer, I would not even consider buying this package.

It simply isn't worth it...

I'll pass, but thanks for the offer anyway...

Now, how do I kill that account you forced me to create at your web site?
Jul 15 2012 at 1:49pm Copy Link

Alex Ferri Once you have your e-mail registered what you seemed to have done you can request keys for all your personal PCs. Install the software on the target PC and then request the key because it is HARDWARE-FINGERPRINT based, but the process is quick and simple. If you were to try it once you would realise how simple it is.

If you would like to kill the account send an e-mail to supportpcwinsoft.com letting me know the e-mail you used to register.

Best,
Alex
Overtkill @Watcher1924

Anand Tulpule Mario Balzic - Very usful info. I am not going to install this software.
My experience with other software (about obtaining machine finger print) is not good. I format my harddrive almost every 3 months. I requested the software vendor by e-mail on few occassions and they did not respond. I have to make phonecall to get my new key every time I format the HDD. Finally I gave up and am not using the software. (Though the software is good.)

Tom Chatterton I'm finding this information troubling. Like Anand Tulpule I also reformat my PC's fairly reguarly. I may not do it as often as Anand, but I'm guessing that I reformat every 6 months. One of the biggest annoyances is getting certain vendors to "release" my serial from thier blacklist due to "too many installs." Oh well - I'm going to give this program a try because it fills a need that I have. One thing that the 1AV vendors should do is make a website with some information on it. Thier site is a vast wasteland. Many screenshots for 1AVShare were of 1AVCenter - whatever that is. The Help files are also very lacking.

Mario Balzic Alex:

You said: "Everytime you reformat your PC your HARDWARE-FINGERPRINT is likely to change so all you have to do is request a new key. " And there in lies the problem! Finally, you ADMIT that if I relocate the software (as I asked previously), I have to jump through hoops AGAIN to get another activation key! It makes NO difference how easy you say it is to request another key from inside the program! My objection is that I have to request another key in the first place! I own a 1968 Ford F250 pickup truck. This duplication of effort is like me having to call a Ford dealer every time I want to put gas in my F250.

Your software may be the neatest thing since sliced bread, (I'll never know) but all the restrictions you place on it to get it to work, is just too much time and effort on MY part, and then if I have to request another key if I swap to another computer... THAT, my friend, is a total deal breaker. Microsoft does NOT require a new activation key if I reinstall Windows. And... I don't need Ford's permission to fill my gas tank in my legally owned pickup truck either.

I am grateful to BDJ for making the offers that they do. I have obtained several high quality software packages at reduced prices that I use on a daily basis. "They" say not to look a gift horse in the mouth. So, maybe I should not be complaining about something which is free. However, when I get home in a few days, _I_ will not be installing the trial package as I HAD planned on doing a few days ago, and _I_ will not become a customer of this software vendor. Now, if they got rid of that hardware fingerprint restriction so I can recover from a failure without having to get a new activation key, THEN I'll reconsider my options.

What YOU do with all of this is your business...

YMMV...

Jan Desaer Hi Alex, thanks for answer. Situation I wanted to explain was: I install 1AVShare on my machine. I can upload files which are available for other users (suppose those are created in the control panel). Is it also possible that another user can upload files to my fileserver?
I've got now also a 2nd question: is there a limitation of file size to upload?
Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers,
Jan

Alex Ferri In response to the qeustions asked:

1-You set up the maximum size of files to be uploaded

2-There is no limit to the size of files that can be downloaded

3-No, 1AVShare is not limited to audio and video files, it also supports images and document files like Office documents, zip, rar, txt, html, exe files, and so on

4-You define the pages that a user can visit so if you defined 2 users have access to the upload page then these 2 users will be able to upload files to your server. If you define 10 people can have access to the upload page then these 10 users will be enabled to upload files to your server.

If you have any more questions I will be happy to answer them.

Alex Ferri Response to a cheng: If you connect to the Internet via router then you have to setup a port forward. Your local IP address can change and your external public IP address can change so the port forward is also necessary because then the router will take care of redirecting your currrent IP to the public IP and make available to the open Internet.
Alex Ferri Response to Frances Proctor: No, you can import files and share them but you can't insert html pages to be hosted.

"Logged users can view, download, search files and even upload files. Automatic webpage creation and embedding, 128-bit security, Supports searching, downloading and uploading, Wide range of extensions supported and configurable user accounts are few features included in 1AVShare."

Marcelo B Alex, you said that "you can't insert html pages to be hosted." However, at the beginning of the 2nd paragraph of this page, it says "1AVShare lets you publish your own website from your PC". It seems to me that there is a contradiction here, because publishing a website is, by definition, hosting and publishing html files.

Alex Ferri Response to Marcelo B: The web server of 1AVShare does not support html files so you can't design a website and host it under 1AVShare, 1AVShare is file oriented.
Alex Ferri Response to Lucas Leung: Uninstall the application. remove the folder it was installed manually, remove the registry entries:
HKLM/Software/PCWinSoft/1AVShare
HKCU/Software/PCWinSoft/1AVShare

Reboot your PC, then try to install it but don't run it when the installation is finalized, close the installer first and then run 1AVShare.

Mark Bunner Be aware that most internet providers -- including Comcast -- will shut off your internet connection for running a server that is available from the internet on a home internet account. Their exact words to me were, "You can't run any server on a home account." When I tried to explain to them that even things like Instant Messenger or remote access programs are technically servers, they didn't care and threatened to shut off my internet connection if I didn't comply.

Alex Ferri I'm sorry you feel that way because the software is safe. It doesn't use encrypted e-mail, it uses regular SMTP so there may be the cause of the comments about safety. So, e-mail may be unsafe but the website is 100% safe.
Alex Ferri Let me ask you this: What video tutorial would you like to watch, give me some pointers and I can record a tutorial using your suggestion.
Jan User Well ... I have tried everything to get the email to work Alex and it just won't. It is others who have questioned the security of the software, not me. I was willing to try it. Otherwise, I would have not gone through the trouble of downloading, installing and registering. I am no tech wiz, but I'm not stupid either. I have never had so much trouble with software as with this one. I am very disappointed it will not work for me. I was really looking forward to using it and have a definite need for it.

Roger Thomasson @ Jan H, Everybody

Please take care when publicly raising security concerns over a piece of software on BDJ. And please have something more substantial than the opinions of family members. This can be potentially damaging to our vendor partners and we think they should be able to address specific technical issues rather than vague third hand opinions.

Thanks for understanding!

Loyal User Downloading went fine.
Registration is a nightmare!!
Captcha repeatedly popping up at almost anything you want to do (on vendor's site) is most annoying!
Key has NOTt been received, web site is asking me about the hardware fingerprint.
That sounds to me like you have to install first before you can get a key (I'm assuming the software, after installation, will give the hardware fingerprint).

I have not installed the software waiting to get a key.
My password was truncated without warning, although it was only 10 characters.
Apparently special characters are not accepted, but I was not told, or warned. That is not good at all.
I found out after I clicked on Send Password to my email.

So far this is the most annoying registration I have seen on BDJ.
Excessive complexity without a need for it.

Clive Richards I have to echo the comments about the registration process which is rather convoluted to say the least. I don't mind the form or even the catchpa but then the email didnt come and each time I wanted it resent I had to repeat the process. Then I needed to register (at this stage I hadnt installed the program and I thought the machine code in the instructions was one that had been generated and put that in the form. I got a license key by email but when I did install the program I found that this was when the machine code was generated meaning that the license key I received reports as invalid. I could find no way in their system to "undo" the mistake or generate the key again so I sent an email to the registration support address suggested - so will have to see if I get a response.
I have downloaded several BitsDuJour offerings (thanks!) and think this is the most convoluted registration process I have come across so far!

Clive Richards I suspect that many of those with problems did as I did and tried to get the serial number BEFORE downloading and installing the software (I don't normally download any software before I am sure I have the code) This program MUST be installed before because when started it generates a machine code specific to your computer and you need to insert this before you actually get the license code. The instructions included a machine code - which I now see was just an example - using that generated an incorrect key.
That said most other software give aways require just one email from BitsDuJour which contains the software link and license code. Most of us HATE catchpa's we can forgive their occasional use but their website forces you submit a catchpa from every page!

Brent Carey As @Clive Richards said, you do have to download and install the software, before you can get the registration key. After installing the software and executing it, you should see three buttons (on the right side) in the Dialog Box that comes up. Click on the "Register Button" and you will go through a simple process to get your License Key. You must do this because you have to place the "Hardware Fingerprint" (which is only generated after installation, and is specific to your PC) into the Registration Information Area. Honestly, this is not a hard process. You can also do this be creating an account on the PCWinSoft web site. I'm currently using several piece of their software, and have never had an issue. Their software is usually small in size, but does an awesome job. :)

Arlene Manduca Tried to get it. Won't work.

Was ready to purchase two other discounted products along with the free one. I've purchased 20 paid products from Bitsdujour. I try just the free product first because of the negative review above. I'm afraid I'll have problems with them and they'll have my money and I'll have nothing

Commenter Peter doesn't want to fill in his email and do the captcha. I think his comment is pett, bs - maybe even from a competitor. Email and captcha is OK with me, I'm ready to purchase two other products and need to register with them anyway,

Webpage rejects me, says I have an account, I don't recall an account. It won't take my sign up. I try with a different email address. No email arrives to confirm I set up an account. I wait 15 minutes, checking many times, still nothing. I ordered the free product and have nothing anywhere.

Why doesn't anyone from these companies check their ordering pages? If they GIVE PRODUCT AWAY - what happens when you spent $99+ to buy a product? Are the products buggy junk that'll crash my system & corrupt my registry?

Hope someone from the company bothers to check here. Last product I wanted to buy, company didn't respond to questions for DAYS - Constantin had to write them. It was dual format scanner software. That company was deliberately deceptive in product descriptions to trick users to buying products lacking advertised features - forcing purchasers to upgrade and pay more after their initial purchase. Customers don't want to buy from cheats and fibbers.

Very frustrating. These vendors waste time promoting, but lack a software DELIVERY system. They have a customer FRUSTRATION system. It ruins their reputation as reliable merchants and competent programmers.

Buying software online shouldn't be a logic puzzle. I want to pay, push the button and get my download and registration #. It's not worth 4 emails every time. If you treat us like badly when we're trying to buy, how do you treat us when something in the software doesn't work?

If this happened because of an error on the bitsdujour interface, they need to fix their part.

Similar problems happened to me 4 times now when I tried to get free products AND buy others @discount from the same vendor. Get your act together. If your online cash register / delivery system is broken - CLOSE UP SHOP.

Alex Ferri In response to O.J. :
The registration you make only one time, the system now contains your order so instead of trying on the page again you go directly to requesting keys which you do this way:

You can request keys from inside the program like in this video demonstration:
http://www.pcwinsoft.com/...gister.asp

Step-by-Step
----------------------------------------
Trial dialog > Click ‘Register’ > Mark ‘Send key to my e-mail’ > Click ‘Next’ > Then enter the e-mail address you used to register > Then click ‘Send’.

The key is sent to your e-mail address.

After you receive the key you go:

Trial dialog > Click ‘Register’ > Mark ‘Enter key’ > Click ‘Next’ > Then enter the key you have received on your e-mail > Then click ‘Authenticate’.
----------------------------------------

Or you can log into the control panel here:

Alex Ferri What is happening is that 1AVShare is not getting access rights to open the program storage folder, so first uninstall 1AVShare, reinstall it to a folder 'c:\1AVShare', then take a look at your folder 'Public Documents' and see if bellow it there is a folder called 1AVShare and then let me know.

Alessandro
Daryn Bogart To those complaining that you actually have to fill out a few fields to get the program.....grow the hell up already.

Wow. You had to give your name, and email address twice along with a CAPTCHA field. Oh my God that is sooooo difficult isn't it?

As for the ability to download and register, once you do complete the fields, scroll down the next page for the link for downloading as well as the registration instructions. Mine went through with no problems. Less than 5 minutes beginning to end.

Robert Crombie When do we have to install the program ?
The PC I would put it onto needs to be set up first
EXPLANATION
None of my PCs are young, thus I have a few, in case my main one dies.
I would be hesitant to allow file sharing to my main PC, but I could get another of my old PCs to work reliably, and install your program on that PC
It will take some time before I get that PC set up
Can I download the installer, and get the key, but NOT have it installed yet ?
Perhaps in a few days time, I would have my other PC ready to install your program.
Is that acceptable (and is it possible) ?

Thanks,
Rob

In your case the only way to update 1AVShare to the latest version is to purchase the *1 YEAR of Free Updates* which is in promotion today for $9.90 only. The second alternative is to purchase *Free Updates Forever* also on promotion for $19.90.

You can't update a already existing order under today's promotion.

Adam Bryan Registration Process is explained after entering details on http://www.pcwinsoft.com registration page. After you've installed the program:
1: Load it up
2: Click on 'Register' (on dialog window)
3: Click 'Next'/'Send' or whatever it says (as 'Send Key to email' should already be selected)
4: Enter your email and click next - which when it arrives will have your key to register the program along with your registered name.

For me however the first attempt to register my key failed, however on the second attempt (at stage three above I selected 'Enter Key') it worked - possibly a delay in the registration server getting updated details.

Hope this helps.

Doris User I clicked on "Get it for free" on this webpage. That took me to the download page, where I selected the Fire Sharing Pro link. Nothing happened. I copied the link to a new browser tab, and tried again ... it downloaded.

Once downloaded, I allowed it to install, and was prepared to follow the instructions, however I couldn't find a "Register" command anyplace, even after a thorough search.

I began to watch the How To Install video, and realized that the program hadn't brought up the trial requester. I was careful to make sure the requester wasn't hidden because it came up behind another window/program. It hadn't.

Tried running it a second time, just to be sure ... it still didn't open a requester.

Would like to know where to go from here ....

Doris User The same thing happened on the second install. The only "extra" window that came up on either install was the "Hints" window. I noticed that there are actually TWO download links on the following webpage

https://www.pcwinsoft.com...ration.asp

There's the link near the bottom of the page, and the link which comes up after filling out the Giveaway license form at the bottom of that same page. I clicked on that second link. It was the one that didn't do anything when I clicked on it, and I had to copy the link to a new browser tab to make it work. Could the two links actually accidentally go to two different app versions?

Alex Ferri It is downloaded content. Note that modern browsers are able to read the videos progressively being able to play the video before the download is over like streaming.
Ronald User I know that the intention is for the site to run well, but unfortunately this is not the case. With all due respect, the software is often not downloadable and to get a key you often have to mess around for half an hour. Not really recommended.
