Ever try to find a file thinking you could pull it up quickly, then spend hours of lost productivity searching every possible (and not so likely) folder location for it? Say goodbye to living in the land of low efficiency, and hello to today’s discount software promotion, FileSearchy Pro!

FileSearchy Pro is an outstanding file search utility that lets you search the contents of your computer in real time by file name. With support for multiple file formats, FileSearchy Pro is perfect for your needs, no matter what field you’re in. And if you’re fond of searching for particular text strings in files, you’ll be happy to know that FileSearchy Pro highlights the search string in both file names and contents. Plus, you can skip binary files if you know you’re looking for text. Want to get fancy? Search for multiple strings, or use an exclude string to omit certain things. Use tabs to compare multiple searches against each other.

How quickly does FileSearchy Pro get the job done? Would you believe less than one second? It’s because the program does a quick indexing of your drive, maintaining a lightweight database of all files. No reaching out to a cloud or remote server, it’s all right there in the innards of your machine!

tekkos FileSearchy works very well.
I needed to find "content inside files" to replace dozens of bad paths, because i moved old programs, all these paths were not updated.

FileSearchy found everything in all kinds of extensions in some minutes.
I could correct dozens of paths effectively
i got fast the sensation to make a professional job.
(All filters in the settings should be checked otherwise it finds less content)

a great Well Done for the author. this is a very productive program
a must-have jewel. i recommend.

Peter Dr Could you please explain what you mean by a "light" database? And how many resources are needed to create and maintain the database?

Thank you.

Maxim Mogilevsky FileSearchy Pro creates a database that caches only file names and not full contents of files. This makes it "lightweight" in terms of consumed disk space and processor time. Programs with full-text database (like Google Desktop) will often consume much more disk space and are likely to noticeably slow down your computer. For a computer with 1 millions files, FileSearchy creates a database with size around 50 MB.
Maintenance (update) of the database occurs automatically when files are created, moved or deleted. I can't tell exact numbers, but i can say that it needs very little processor resources. The database is updated when FileSearchy Pro is running. If the program is not running it will automatically detect new files on next start, so it doesn't miss anything.

Ela S. What is the difference in features between this PRO version and the FREE version?
Jan 20 2014 at 5:06am Copy Link

Maxim Mogilevsky Pro version contains the following additional features:
- Filter results by file type (document, picture, executable etc).
- Export results in a file.
Also licensing is different:
- Free is only for personal use.
- Pro version for both personal and commercial use.
Difference is described here: http://www.filesearchy.com/features

Peter Dr Thank you Maxim for your detailed reply concerning the database. If FileSearchy creates an index of file-names only, how cat it be that " it also allows searching by content string" as described on your website? By the way, in testing its searches on file-names, it is very fast and rather complete.

Maxim Mogilevsky When searching by a content string, FileSearchy reads file contents directly (without using the database).

Faisal Humayun I generally use the very fine "Search Everything" (free) by Voidtools. I've also tried FileSeek Pro, File Locater Pro, and Copernic.
Search Everything was my go to tool particularly since the search results start populating as soon as you start typing (ajax style). But, it had one big drawback. Each time I launch it, it forces the user to wait until it refreshes its db index first. Given almost 3Tb, its about a solid minute of waiting until its search ready.

Filesearchy Pro just bested Search Everything, and by proxy, everyone else in terms of its rapid start and immediate search results. It's NOT real-time in the same way as search everything, but that's OK, the search results are lightning fast.

Incredibly sharp algo, coding, and dev.

Confirmed customer here as soon as the deal goes live.

Chris Hello again. I installed the free version to check it out before I decided if I wanted to purchase or not.
I can't do a single search. Every time I start typing something into the search area it crashes.

"File search utility has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will
dose the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I have Windows 7 64 bit system. Does it run on 64 bit systems? Is there a different installer file I need to download and install for 64 bit systems?

Thanks.....

Maxim Mogilevsky Yes, it supports Windows 7 64 bit.
I've sent you an e-mail to request more details. If there is some problem in the application we will fix it ASAP.

Colin McAllister I am trying the freeware version right this second. I'm searching in content for a number - "CBAP28" - which I know is contained in my documents/work folder.
Win 8 search found 25 docx files in a nanosecond, but filesearchy is still looking. I have left the "file name" field blank.

Filesearchy has found 3 instances of the number in emails I have within EverDesk mail (which is in the main documents folder). I wasn't aware that those emails still existed, so that was interesting.

I am off to work now, but I will try filesearchy when I return. In the meantime, I will leave it searching - but if I can't find the number in the docx files then it won't be very useful for me. Update - file searching has finished, not a single docx file was found.

H. H. Hallo,
@developer
1. does filedearchy pro support fat32?-
that would be an advantage in comparison to everything)

2. will there be a column in search results for "date created" (like everything has",
not only "date modified"?

@bdj users
- filesearchy pro seems to be fast, one may also compare it to the already
mentioned void everything (no fat 32 support), folder scout pro (fat 32 supported), listary pro

- when searching for file content without indexing
(sorry I can´t compare it because of a lack of time myself), one may test
2brightsparks "find on click" or the very versatile file manager "xplorer2"
- for indexed content search one may try x1 search,, x1 search shows folders
in results too (copernic desktop search doesn´t)

Maxim Mogilevsky 1. FAT32 is supported, but not in real time. To search FAT32, you must explicitly enter the path to search in the field under "In directory" checkbox (on Search pane).
2. Yes, there will be a column in future, not at the moment.

About the portable version, are you planning to have one in the future?

Also, was wondering why you abandoned MultiFind, your other search app
Last iteration was 2010

Danny @Maxim Mogilevsky,

I have bought this great application. Now it only remains for me the question: it gave to that free updates for a year. This pro function remains at the end of the free updates?
Jan 22 2014 at 2:47pm Copy Link

Maxim Mogilevsky "Free updates for a year" means:
License key works for unlimited time with all FileSearchy Pro versions released not later than one year after purchase.

Kathir User 1. Main page is not working - http://www.filesearchy.com
2. Download page is not working - http://www.filesearchy.com/download.html
3. Email bounces back when sent to author - mailto:contactmidlinesoft.com

Other Questions:

1. Does it supports cross-platform - Windows/Linux?
2. Is it portable ?
3. Assume i have 5000 text files with 100 kb each. How long it would take to search a word in 5000 files. Assume all are indexed using advanced settings
4. Is the PRO edition is free now as per https://www.portablefreew...20&t=21285 ???
