Jan-Christoph Ihrens When resizing, it would be nice to have an option to only reduce the size (so you can have a maximum size) and one to only increase the size (so you can have a minimum size). Will there be such a feature in the near future?

Joe Miller Hi Jan-Christoph, Thank you so much for your feedback. Would you mind explaining a little bit more about how you would like to use your wish list features?

Jan-Christoph Ihrens Hi Joe, you could for example add a list box with the options

- Enlarge or reduce image size [default]
- Enlarge only
- Reduce only

This is how ACDSee does it. Other programs just have a checkbox "never enlage" (which is the more important part of what I suggested). Of course you can find a different solution for your GUI.

In my eyes, this option is quite important - if I want to make sure that a bunch of images doesn't exceed the given size but don't want very small images to be enlarged (because they get very ugly then), in pcPhotos I would have to very carefully select the images, which could be quite time-consuming.

Joe Miller Hi again Hi Jan-Christoph, Thank you kindly for explaining it. We will recommend it as a wish list item.

William Tattors Does it contain any adware or affiliate marketing stuff? I am not familiar with the company and do not see a statement of such. Also, how difficult is it to transfer license from one pc to another?

Joe Miller Hi William, Thank you for asking. FileStream, Inc., the developer of pcPhotos, has been established on Long Island in New York since 1988. This is our 24th year in the PC software business. You might have heard of our other products, TurboBackup, Turbo Browser, TurboZIP, TurboZIP Express, Image Broadway, Take-1 Recorder, and Color Wheel (this last one was discountinued in 1998). The answer to your question is that there is NO adware, NO affiliate, and none of any of those annoyance add-ons. Please feel free to visit our company and product site: http://www.filestream.com.

Petr I have been searching for a way to drag-n-drop photos, within a folder or 'album' such that I can change the display sequence. In other words, does your software enable me to drag photos into a sequence such that future display of photos will remember the sequence. (Note: I do not want to rename files or tags to change the sort order of photos).
Feb 18 2012 at 8:33am Copy Link

Joe Miller Hi Petr, Thank you for your question. The answer is YES you can. On the Step 5 of 6 page, you can drag one or multiple select some photos and drop to rearrange the order. The order you set will be the order your photos are going to be displayed in the future.

Emil Kucera Clicking the 'export now' button just closes the program and nothing shows in the target button. Whether I chose to save the script or not (BTW, what does that option do? There's nothing on it in the help file). Eventually I found the photos in pcPhotos\albumname\Final directory - but that is probably not what was intended. What is going on here?
Feb 18 2012 at 9:36am Copy Link

Joe Miller Hi Emil, Thank you for your message. The script are those options and settings you selected for your album. If you save it, then next time when you reopen the album everything will be kept there, If you choose not to save, then none of what you changed will will be saved. I will forward your feedback to our Help team to have this explanation added to the Help file in the next update. As far as the Target button question goes, I am not familar with that. But if you click the Export Now button, the export is done and that is what is intended; click the Finish button, which is when you see the Save Script or not question, the program will close.

Hope this helps. If you have any other question, please feel free to email supportfilestream.com at any time.

Emil Kucera Sorry, I meant not target button, but target directory. (my mistake originally not to spot the Export Now button) It seems to work ok with physical dir's but I got "fail to create" a directory when I tried to export to a RAM disk (root dir of the disk). However, once a subdirectory _was established there, I was able to export to it. So the only remaining beef is, that the dialog for setting the export directory does not have the usual means to create a new directory. But one can work around it.
Thanks and Regards Emil

Emil Kucera Just a note for any who may wonder - you have to uninstall the trial and install the full version to be able to enter the licence key during installation - a bit unusual and awkward.

Joe Miller Hi Emil, Thank you again for your message. There is no need to uninstall the trial version. All you need to do is to install the paid version.

Jerry S Uh oh. I just went ahead and purchased two licenses without downloading and trying out the trial. Looks like I may have made a mistake with this application: it vastly increases the size of the JPG files. One file went from 78.4KB to 121KB. Another from 177KB to 272KB. This is not what I expect when reducing the resolution of photos.

Another problem (to me, at least) is that the program doesn't seem o have he "smarts" to understand that when I set the output to 800 x 600, I mean I don't want the vertical dimension to be any greater than 600 pixels.

I'll contact FileStream tech support, but just wanted to wan any other last minute buyers.

Jerry

Joe Miller Hi Jerry, pcPhotos is quite smart in terms of resizing dimensions. You have the option to limit the width and height as specified by you in the usual sense. In addition, you have the option to switch width and height limitation. This option is useful when displaying your photos on devices like iPad, which turns photos 90 degrees for those in portraits orientation while the others are in landscape orientation. You can do it either way in pcPhotos. Please feel free to e-mail supportfilestream.com for any questions.

Michael R. Can I, after having created a profile (with one or more effects, like resizing, cropping, etc.) apply it to all files in a directory via command-line-call?

E.g. like
PcpPhotos -profile=my_profile.cfg c:\myphotos\*.jpg
Jul 4 2012 at 10:07pm Copy Link

Joe Miller You can create and apply the effects to all selected photos in one or more folders by simply use the Recreate button command via the program's wizard interface. No need to use any command line call. You can save everything you do and reuse it again and again.

Software Guy Generous discount on a batch photoeditor but the license is per computer and purchase is through trialpay which means that you don't get a fully usable install file, but rather an installer. You need to purchase an extended download or buy a cd to reinstall. That is unfortunate because they are dealbreakers, especially with the per computer license. And Filestram has some interesting other products like Image broadway and Frameshop (frameshop is available as a special deal on BDJ) - suggestion - it might be useful to include a few examples of finished product examples on the website.
At any rate, a restrictive license policy together with a ghost installer make for tough obstacles for a software developer to overcome.

Amit I agree with software guy above, the license has to be preferably tied to user or atleast 3 pcs
+
it wud have been better if exported pics were asked to be of which format they should be exported as - jpeg is not good, i wud prefer png, and gif , bmp. mainly png.
+
caption and timestamp - there should be option to write them not only at top and middle but bottom part of pics too.

If there's a nice chance of these, i wud be intrested. Any ?

thanks.

Joe Miller Software Guy, The extended download and backup CD are options for your convenience and not required. Many of our software users ask for these two options, which is the reason options are offered. I am not sure what you meant by "ghost" installer. When you license pcPhotos, you get an installer file, which can be saved on your hard drive or backed up to CD yourself. As I said, we offer these two options because our software users ask for them. As far as TrialPay goes, it is for e-commerce, payment processing and file delivery. It is like any other e-commerce processor.

You are absolutely - absolutely right your suggestion that we should include include a few examples of finished products. We thank you for this suggestion.

Joe Miller Amit gandhi, Thank you for your feedback. We have gotten feedback from our users that many only have one PC and paying the same for one PC vs. three PCs at the same price is not fair. You may not agree but that is the reason for single license price.

FileStream pcPhotos supports all popular photo formats and over 400 camera RAW formats. It is by popular demand to output to JPEG only. We thank you for your suggestion about also include other formats for output especially PNG, which is also very popular with efficient file size.

Finally about caption, timestamp, and watermark, the program offers you to write them out in nine different positions, top left, top center, top right, and so on and so forth.

Software Guy Joe Miller, thanks for your answer. Do we get a full executable within the installer which we can save on our disk and unlock and reinstall at a later date? Or do we need to go to trialpay and download the program again if we need to reinstall? My experience is that vendors like plimus, or digital river or trial pay maintain the executables, making reinstalls very difficult for the user unless they have bought the backup CD. Or can we just download the trial, including past versions from your site, plug in our key and go? If we can do that then why offer the "extended download" option? If not, then there is no user convenience - there is only inconvenience UNLESS you purchase the CD which almost doubles the price. yes, most of us can make our own backup copy easily if the download is complete and does not require a ghost installer.

And I will not recommend software which uses these third party installers because it is inevitable that systems will crash and software will need to be reinstalled, and it is pure inconvenience if the user can't simply go to a vendors site, download his version, plug in his key and unlock the software. Needing extended downloads using extra passwords from a third party site (as they are the only who maintain unlockable versions) is nothing but inconvenience. So what you are saying is that you provide a fully working downloadable executable from your site and once we have the key we are good to go and there is no need for any extended download service - correct?
Jul 6 2012 at 7:31am Copy Link

Joe Miller Software Guy, The answer to your question is Yes! In addition, FileStream develops, markets, and uses its own installer software named InstallConstruct since 1999. We do not use any third party installer. TrialPay provides the download link. They do not rewrap our installer as far as I know.
