What are people saying about FileStream Take-1 Recorder

Amit I would like to buy the threepack as available on the home site. is that possible ?

Buying 3 individual licenses from here seems to be not that sound deal.
Nov 10 2012 at 1:35pm Copy Link
Joe Miller Hello Amit, thank you for your message. Buy three licenses here is still $20 cheaper than buying the three pack from our website store.
FileStream, Inc. - Nov 10 2012 at 3:02pm Copy Link
DroidLuvr I see your website offers a free trial: how long is the trial period?

Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to evaluate it tonight, and I see you have NO return policy. That is usually a complete deal-killer for me, as it makes me assume you do not have enough confidence in the quality of your software... I am curious why you offer a free trial, but will not offer even a short return policy here on BDJ??
Nov 10 2012 at 5:23pm Copy Link
Joe Miller Hello DroidLuvr, The free trial version never expires. The difference is that the trial version watermarks the capture.

FileStream has been in this business since 1988. We alwasys offer full featured free trial and, thus, a no return policy. It has worked for the past 24 years for millions of happy paid users.
FileStream, Inc. - Nov 10 2012 at 5:43pm Copy Link
DroidLuvr Thank you, Joe, for your prompt answer...

I didn't mean to insult you in any way; it's just a little different here on BDJ when you only have one day to decide -- and that's assuming you were able to log-in first thing!! Unfortunately, today was one of those days that it wasn't possible for me, and then I tend to rely on the fact that most software here has a return policy, ranging from about 3 days to 3 months. I've only ever returned software once, out of almost a hundred purchases, but it is my "mental safety net," I guess ;)

It really looks great, so I'll test it out, and with any luck you'll have another promotion soon ;)

Amit I would have liked discount on the 3pack - rather than 3 individual licenses. More better than the latter.

Michael R. There are some nice videos out there, when the area around the mouse-pointer is zoomed in (and out later), mouse-clicks are surrounded by circles, etc.

Can T1R do these things too?
Mar 28 2013 at 12:52am Copy Link
Joe Miller Thank you for your question, Michael. FileStream Take-1 Recorder offers many nice features. Please take a look at the detailed list. I believe the capture at the link below with the frog is what you are asking about.

Sascha Tuberkel For all German speakers, take a look at:

Free Full version if registered until 2. April 2013

It also offers screen capture functionality.

For professional Screen Capture Usage I believe that
FileStream Take-1 Recorder is the better option though.
Mar 29 2013 at 8:56am Copy Link
CodeDog Joe, a followup to Michael's question.

Is the zoom display only (just a magnifier), or can you actually zoom in while recording to see mouse clicks and keyboard entry in real time?

Mar 30 2013 at 2:59am Copy Link
Joe Miller CodeDog,

When you use FileStream Take-1 Recorder to record onscreen video, it is WYSIWHG (What You See Is What You Get). If you zoom in while recording, you will see the mouse click and the enlarged clicked point in your recording.
FileStream, Inc. - Mar 30 2013 at 4:40am Copy Link
CodeDog Thanks for the answer, Joe. I just downloaded your program demo to take a look at it, but every time I click record I get a message saying "Trial version error", and also usually an out of memory error.

Joe Miller CodeDog,

What else do you have running?
FileStream, Inc. - Mar 30 2013 at 11:50am Copy Link
CodeDog Just had a browser running that I was going to use to test the recording, Joe. I tried setting it to both VidX and DivX Pro.

I'll try it later on another computer...

MBe 1.) Is this correct in the Fine Print: "You must install/register the software within 3 days, and cannot do so afterwards."?
2.) How can I transfer a licence to another computer, if the old computer is damaged?
Mar 30 2013 at 4:06pm Copy Link
Joe Miller Hi M Be, That fine print is from the eCommerce Provider, not from us. The link is only valid for three days. I do believe they also offer extended download option and backup CD. That should take care of your second question.
FileStream, Inc. - Mar 30 2013 at 4:11pm Copy Link
MBe No the second question was because of the following Fine Print:
"Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed."
How can I understand this term?
What can I do, if I want to install the Licence on another computer after I have deleted on the previous?
Mar 30 2013 at 4:44pm Copy Link
Joe Miller Hi again,

No we do not have that restriction. It is only from the eCommerce provider, which is not applicable in this promotion. You can run the installer again after you uninstall it from the first computer and then reinstall it on another computer. You do need the optional backup CD or extended download service, however.
FileStream, Inc. - Mar 30 2013 at 5:49pm Copy Link
Louis H Are there any video examples (youtube - etc) that give a demonstration of this program in operation?

And are there any users of this program who have used, or currently use, some of the competition for this type of program, who are willing to compare the pros and cons of Take-1 in comparison?

Mar 31 2013 at 3:48am Copy Link
Joe Miller Hi Louis,

FileStream Take-1 Recorder records anything that you see, hear, or speak into the computer the way you want it - WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). The best part of Take-1 Recorder is its ease of use, which outdone competition. Here is a link to a short User's Manual in downloadable PDF:

There are other Take-1 Recorder strengths, like its single click recording and hot keys for quick action but the most favorite is its mark-up feature, which lets you annotate the recording as you go along.
FileStream, Inc. - Mar 31 2013 at 5:08am Copy Link
Louis H Well... I downloaded the trial, to give it a test run, but I am getting the same "trial version error" errors that CodeDog received. I was running Firefox, xplorer2, as well as Bitdefender, AnVir task manager Pro, Zentimo xStorage Manager - the last three as background tasks. And I cannot get Take-1 to record. I tried unloading the above programs and still get the same error message as CodeDog. I tried changing the settings for Take-1... same error message.

Win 7 Home Premium
Intel i7
8 GB ram
All codecs current and updated (I use a number of other video editors and programs and am able to run a multitude of different video file formats. Definitely all that Take-1 offered me as options. Recently recorded a webinar in progress with Snagit 11 with no problems.)

I imagine that, with time, I could probably get it resolved and up and running, but I do not have that time right now - nor do I have a pressing need for this program that would warrant investing the time.

Nonetheless... thanks to BDJ and FileStream for making the offer.
Mar 31 2013 at 4:08pm Copy Link
Ralph Bressler Program displays errors at some times but no at others. Sometimes I seem to be able to start to record but then it stops in the middle and the tray icon disappears. Was going to nuy this but I don't have the time to troubleshoot an authors bugs.
Mar 31 2013 at 6:50pm Copy Link
CodeDog Louis,

I finally uninstalled (with Revo) two different times, downloaded and reinstalled the trial again, and finally got it to run. But then I had other issues. I tried multiple codecs and most other options, but finally gave up on it.

Looked like a nice program, just couldn't get it to work...
Mar 31 2013 at 7:51pm Copy Link
Michael R. I am not so sure, about how T1R works: I imagined (1) I capture a video and (2) I can edit it (via a timeline).

In (2) inside the timeline (similar to video-programs) I can add text, define where it appears and disappears, define where to start and end mouse-click-visualizations or where to zoom in and out again.

I also imagined that I can record sound afterwards.

But I didn't see any timeline in the screenshots and the short user's manual.

So I am a little confused, how I should do it...
While recording?
This would a little bit difficult. Doing three things in one time:
(a) Moving through the program I want to demonstrate
(b) Pressing some keys to zoom in/out, create arrows, ...
(c) Documenting what I do via voice explanations. etc.

So, can you tell me please, if there is a timeline where I can edit my screen-recordings or do I have this to do while recording or how it is supposed to be done?
Mar 31 2013 at 9:07pm Copy Link
Louis H @CodeDog...

I agree. Looks like it is indeed a nice program, but giving it another run, I could not get it to work. And what is the point of having such a program if I have to strip away everything running in the background when what I want to do is possibly record me using those programs?

I'll keep it in mind for the future. Hopefully it will improve with time.
Apr 2 2013 at 9:31pm Copy Link
CodeDog Yes. I have a few screen recorders that I use for different things. Some are harder on system resources than others, but all should be able to run in a small enough footprint to let you run the applications you want to record.

This one looked like it had a lot of potential for a small footprint, ease of use, and quick to load up. Just couldn't make it go.

As you say, a good one to keep an eye on...
