What are people saying about Filter Forge Basic Edition

Bengt User It is claimed that Basic price is reduced from 149 to 14 $
But the normal price for Basic edition seems to be $29
https://www.filterforge.com/buy/

This is confusing. Can you explain ?
Nov 6 2015 at 1:02am Copy Link
1
Louis H The "normal" price IS $149. It is currently on sale at 80% off. This is why you see the price as $29. So the BDJ price is based on the normal price and not the current sale price at the Filter Forge Website. That said, Filter Forge is ALWAYS running discounts. (80% is the best I have ever seen.)

I have been using this since V1. It keeps getting better. I would highly recommend that if this is a product you are interested in, you really need to consider getting the Professional version. However, this deal would be a great way to determine if this product is worth the investment for you.

Be aware that it is getting ready, at some point, to release Version 5. (Currently still in Beta)

For the various Pros and Cons, from the user base, check out the Forum at....

Mark Evdokimov Hi Bengt User,

Yes, Luis is right -- regular price is $149, now you can see your personal discount 80% (soon it will expire for you).

Louis H, thank you for the profound answer and a positive feedback, it warmed our hearts soo much.

Louis H As the website states, today is the last day for being able to get the Professional version, for new purchasers, at 80% off normal pricing. This is the best discount I have seen offered.

https://www.filterforge.com/buy/

For folks who wish to wait, however, for whatever reason, you will qualify for getting an upgrade price to either move up to the Standard or Professional version at a later date, or to pre-order V5. The price you are offered will be based on what level and version you currently own. Perhaps the vendor can give more specifics, but my recommendation is that you download the trial, give it a run, and if you know you will use this program, want the advanced features, go ahead and purchase the Professional while it is still at an 80% discount. (I could be wrong, but I doubt you will see a better new-user discount anytime soon.)

Or get the basic today at an additional 50% off the current price at the website
and then upgrade later. (The vendor would have to state whether or not you would get even more than 80% off if you buy this basic version today, through BDJ, and then upgrade today.)

The Professional Version is an absolute deal at $79. There are currently more than 11,000 FREE user-created filters you can access from within the program, with more being added daily, as well as having the ability to create your own.

I see today's BDJ offer as a wonderful way for folks to get on board with this program. Especially for folks who are not interested in being able to create their own filters. With more than 11,000 filters to choose from, even with a Basic level version, you will find far more filters, at this price, than any other filter-based image manipulation software product out there.

( I am not affiliated with the Vendor. All of the above is based on my understanding as a long time user and thus could be in error. Please take time to verify the info. Perhaps the Vendor can clarify if I have misrepresented anything?)

Jo Ann Rice Well looks like the owner didn't care enough if we purchased any version at all on this program as they didn't bother to answer our questions before the deal ended. Too bad really, because I as I'm sure many others gauge a companies customer service by this system as well. This shows it it's probably not all that great :(
Nov 8 2015 at 4:46am Copy Link

Louis H I cannot speak as to why the vendor was not more present here during the deal, but I have had no problems with customer service over the years. (I have been using this program since Version 1.) Most of the time, however, I am able to get what I need from the very active Forum that is maintained by the vendor.

There is currently a 75% discount, at their website, for anyone who wishes to jump in at the Professional or Standard level. Professional is now going for $99 and the Standard is going for $69, for first-time buyers. Not as cheap as it was the other day, but still worth the investment.

Jo Ann Rice I appreciate your comments Louis, but those of us that posted questions are expecting an answer from the developers, not a user. Your feedback is helpful, but it did not answer our questions which you are not qualified to do. Thanks anyways for your attempt to help. I am very versed in forum support and it's benefits, but a business cannot rely on allowing all their customer support to be handled "free of charge" by others. If they are going to run a sale or deal here they need to be prepared to answer more than just the first question asked. Just my opinion of course, but I'm sure many others would have appreciated the ability to get their questions answered "WHILE" the deal was running and in most of our cases, "AT ALL".

Filter Forge (Jane) Hi Lee, we never offer a 90% discount on Filter Forge Professional or on any upgrades. franp User This is a very powerfull product ; a bit overpriced at nominal price but this bargain (90% !) is not to miss if you are in texture creation.
I ghave been owning a licence for years and regret to not have time enough to exploit its full potential which is enormous.

Note that the upgrade rate of the developers is rather speedy (one major upgrade every year or so) but since the product is both a Photoshop plug-in and a stand-alone product, you are not obliged to upgrade for cross-software compatibility problems ; the stand alone version can be used indefinitly

I recommand.

Filter Forge (Jane) Hi Andres Florez Herrero, I'm sorry to hear that. You can unsubscribe from your newsletter anytime you want. Still I can't get when we wasted your time?

Let me explain how it all (I mean developing a program) works. We work all the year round, fixing bugs, reading our users' wishes and trying to figure out how we can make them true. We succeed and fail, release minor and major updates, help our users to make Filter Forge work properly. We have a perfect features list which we want to see in the next version. When we tick all the items in this list (or the majority of them) we release a new version. We cannot predict the exact release date. Because, you know, every time before the "release date" one of the developers cries "IT doesn't work properly!" or "I finally know how to make this feature come true" and the release date is rescheduled.

On the other side are marketers, designers and me, social media voice. We do not know for sure when the release is and I would be strange if we told users every now and then "Don't buy Filter Forge now. We will release the new version (maybe) next week (maybe)." AND that is why we have a golden rule for those who've bought Filter Forge too close to release date 'cause we understand that it frustrates. The golden rule is "We grant free upgrades to all the users who've bought Filter Forge a month before the release."

Sorry for the longread. And all the best to you, Andres!

Andres Florez Herrero Hi Ms. Jane!

I hope to explain myself better despite the fact that English is not my language.
Support has wasted my time:

Day 19: the support tells me how to download and activate filter forge 5 (I did not ask that, I wanted to upgrade to forge 7 because I had bought version 6 a few months ago)
Day 19: I informed them that I bought filter fotge 6 a little over 3 months ago and I sent them a license key.
Day 22: The support says they have no record that I buy forge 6 and that I send the order number.
Day 22: I send the purchase invoice.
Day 22: The support reminds me of the name and license number (Why? I sent this information). And I am told that since I made the purchase on September 28 instead of October 20, I can not get an update. 3 weeks apart, this is crazy.

When I bought Forge 6, a few weeks later (3-4) I was offered the upgrade to Forge 7, sorry but this seems like a scam, is it like selling 2 times the same product? Why did they sell me something that was about to disappear? Explain it to me because I do not understand it, thank you.

In addition I am going to comment to him that an equal thing happened to me with the company REALLUSION (its support is excellent, by the way). I bought CrazyTalkAnimator1 and after a few months (2-3) the second version came out. I wrote an email saying that it seemed unfair and they gave me a license. Since then I keep buying his products (CrazyTalk and Business Avatars ...) and I make good publicity. To see the difference between the policy of one company and that of another.

Now I hope to have explained myself, fine. Sorry if the translation is not very correct.

My best wishes to you and yours.
Andrés F.

Filter Forge (Jane) Hi Andres, thank you for the explanation.

Filter Forge 6 is not going to disappear. It works now and it will work in future. We still have users who use Filter Forge 2 or even 1. With Filter Forge 6 you can use all the filters from the library for version 6 and lower and you have all the features except for those we released in version 7.0.

With every new version we add new features and that is what we sell in the upgrades. So now it doesn't look like scam, does it?

As for the company's politics, yes we have one and we try to stick to it. 'Cause if we give a free upgrade to you, then why don't we give free upgrades to the users who've bought Filter Forge 6 on September 1? It is only 2-3 weeks away.

We sell upgrades to make Filter Forge better and better in each next version.

As for our support team, sorry for a bit of misunderstanding between you and them.

Best regards,
Jane.

Dunking Suppose I bought this and then upgraded to Professional. That would cost me the $14.90 here plus $125 upgrade from your website, so $140 near enough. Or I could just go straight to professional from your website and pay $79.

Am I missing something? What does that extra $60 get me buying through Bits?
Apr 29 2020 at 6:01am Copy Link

Jane Blue Dunking - Once you own the basic version you'll get occasional offers to upgrade at a discount if you register with your real email address. They don't send too many emails, like some companies do

I used the basic version for a couple years before accepting their offer to upgrade at a discount. You can still experiment with making filters with the basic version, you just can't save them. Once I started making filters, some.got popular and I won free upgrades for life!

I'm not affiliated with them in any way (other than contributing filters to the filter library). This is just a great company with an excellent and ingenious product. When I saw the offer via Bits DuJour in my email, I came here to recommend the product because I'm a big fan. When I saw your question I figured I might as well chip in my two cents.

By the way, I got started by buying the basic version right here through Bits. Highly recommended!

Carson I'm all in using Professional Plus and have lifetime librarian & library. Started with basic and used it enough with great results to warrant the upgrade. I would agree that the emails aren't too frequent and are meaningful when sent. Save your pennies along the way and go lifetime if you can justify the investment. I'm glad I did as did the folks leaving comments about the lifetime offers (that I saw when researching). I can say support was extremely responsive when I had a computer crash. Not always a given this day and age. Very much appreciated. This is a very easy 'highly recommended', especially at this price point. No down side at all and a very slick program. At minimum you'll have a very robust trial and get on the email list for discounted upgrades as others have mentioned.

Ron White Did anyone answer Dunking's question about paying $140 for pro version through upgrades vs. paying $79 by buying pro directly from web site?
May 1 2020 at 10:48am Copy Link

Carson Ron, I'll take a stab at answering that question. The Pro version can be bought for $79 via a link on this web page that Bits provides. (Please note folks: if you want to upgrade the Basic version, you may click here). So the question is really whether to buy Basic or Pro out of the gate based on their features vs. cost. The upgrade question is a longer term consideration. The software is actively supported and has major upgrades roughly every year or so. Each major version upgrade is about the same as the Pro version cost being discussed here. Sometimes a little more with a sweetener and sometimes on rarer occassions a little less. If you use the software regularly and like the new features as Filter Forge continues to evolve, it makes sense to go lifetime at some point. It's tougher on the pocketbook initially but a great buy under the right individual circumstances. Disclaimer: I have no connection or relationship with the Filter Forge folks and expressing personal opinion. If I'm off base I'll ask the Publisher to chime in as warranted.

Filter Forge (Jane) Hi Javier Gil, Filter Forge can work as a plugin in a number of hosts and it can be a standalone app as well. You're right, the main text tells only about Photoshop, but in the Features tab you can read the following:
