Susie Kelly I downloaded the demo four times, but it would not install. After extracting all the files and trying to start the application, nothing happened except a white screen with '800 x 600' pixels at the top, and the Flame Painter splendid logo in the centre.

Never mind, I thought, it's cheap as chips, I'll buy it and I'm sure it will work.

Unfortunately, no. It won't. As before, a white screen opens up, with '800 x 600 pixels' at the top and the Flame Painter's splendid logo in the centre. That's it. The little blue circle just goes around and around and around.

I hope they'll sort this out, looks like a great piece of software if it works.

Windows 7, 32-bit.

The original post that I saw yesterday, and confirmed just now using Google Cache, stated the following..

"you can upgraded to the Professional edition for a $30 discount directly through the application."

Now I do not know if BDJ added something since that version and the version you saw, but I do remember looking at the current price for the Professional edition to figure out what the discount would bring the price down to. So the copy I saw, before the edit(s), was clear to me that it was a $30 DISCOUNT, and not the product for $30.

As to the program itself..

It is a wonderful program, but if you are going to want to do anything other than play around with it, you really need the Professional version. I highly recommend folks also take a look at the newest program Escape Motions is releasing - currently in Beta - REBELLE. It is a watercolor painting program.

Ela S. Beautiful software - just bought it and will upgrade to pro version later. For those paying by PAYPAL with different e-mail, for download you have to use your BDJ e-mail.

Two questions remain for the developer:

- Will the discount for "Personal to Pro" upgrade (-30$) be time-limited for today, or can we still upgrade within the next months?

- Their other products Rebelle and Amberlight, will they be integrated within the Flame Painter programm, or will these be independent programs rsp installations?

Would be very interested to purchase these two in due time as well.

English is not my native language so I missed the upgrade / discount detail
But even the discount is misleading as is no discount on the upgrade the $ 30 discount is the price dif between the "home/BDJ" and Pro based on listprice. So if ik want the pro I "only" get a $21.01 ( 89,99 - 30 + 8,99) discount and not $30
Fot the time beeing I stay at the BDJ version fot $8,99

Nigel Brewster @Ela I'm not the developer but Amberlight is separate program. I think it's quite cheap for what you can achieve with it. Both FP and Amberlight offer something unique, it's something I've looked for, for years but until I come across the first version nothing was or still is like it

Good point.

As to the $30 concern.... The normal price for someone to upgrade from Standard version to PRO is $59.99. That is the difference between the normal cost of the standard version and the normal cost for the PRO version. This requires, of course, that they have purchased the standard version first. So today you are saving 70% off the standard price and then getting the normal upgrade discount for the PRO version. The deal was never offering the PRO - by itself - at the normal upgrade price.

So if you purchase the standard today and then upgrade to PRO, you are actually saving a total of $51 USD. I have never seen the PRO version (and I have been using this program since Version 1.7) at a discount for anything other than as an upgrade for users of the standard version. (I take that back. I do believe there was a special time-limited upgrade discount offered for purchasing the upgrade from V 2 to V 3 - but it was sent out by the vendor to users of V2.)

Now where one might have a problem with the wording of BDJ today is that it could sound as if you might have to upgrade TODAY to the PRO version. If you own a license for the standard version, per the vendors website, you can upgrade at ANY TIME to PRO for the difference between the price for standard and the price for PRO.

The only difference is that prices could always go up between now and when you purchased the standard version. However, Peter, the vendor I have always had contact with over the years, is VERY helpful with concerns and questions. I believe he is in Slovakia, and I am of no doubt that there are valid reasons why he has not been online yet to answer questions here.

@Ela S. As I noted in my response to Hans above, the upgrade is available at any time to an owner of a license for the standard version. That comes from the website for Escape Motions.

As to your second question, Ela... I hope not!. :-)

Seriously, I am afraid that if they ever combine these programs into one, the unique nature of each would suffer as a consequence. The algorithms used, per my current understanding, are not interchangeable and the size of the program would be, I imagine, quite massive and perhaps not play well together inside one all-in-one program. That is simply my view at present. (Although I know other users who also prefer each being a stand-alone program. I own all three, by the way. My experience with Amberlight and Flame Painter, and my contact with Peter over the years, is why I jumped at the early discount for getting Rebelle.)

Nope discount on pro acter upgrade form BDJ stantard edion is $21.01 not $51 its 51 if the upgrade is $30 or you get a $ 30,- discount on the 59,99 upgrade price
The 59,99 upgrade price is just the dif between the two product so that $30 I won't call a discount.

The Beta for Rebelle is still a bit buggy, but Escape Motions has assured everyone who purchases now - while it is still in Beta - that they can still get the full money back guarantee AFTER the final version is released. One can also download a demo version to see if it works for them, on their computer.

Preston Mitchell I previously bought Flame Painter 3 (and Amberlight too)...and I love it for making unique backgounds for Powerpoint slides. BUT I wish the PRO version was offered.

THE STANDARD VERSION is a tease offering just enough features to show you why the full Pro version is better. This developer is a clever marketer.

Robert Reese BDJ, your emails are now very difficult to read. They are being HTML-formatted using Microsoft WORD of all things, and I don't support HTML anyway, only plain-text. Please ensure your emails also contain the plain-text portion, and I strongly recommend not using Microsoft Word to create your HTML.
