Judi Podgurski WOW !! This is a fantastic little program, and I can hardly wait to get the full version ! It has a 'feel' that is quite unique, and produces a look like the big box program does. As many different adjustments as ones heart could desire too. Many thanks to Bits'du jour for bringing this great little program to my attention !!

Gabriel Zastawnik Hey. I am the user of the previous version and I also would like to know what is a) upgrade price for existing users b) what will happen if I buy the current version and on 21st of May you will release new version of your software.

ps. If anyone does not have this program yet - it is worth to buy it even in full price (although it is always better to buy it with 50% discount thanks to BDJ) :)

Louis H This is the vendor's response, on their Facebook page, to the question about upgrading for Version 2.....

*******************************

Dear XXXXXX, thanks a lot for purchasing Flame Painter. We are planning to sell new version 2.0 separately (all the "minor" version updates are free, but major versions (well, this was the first one after nearly 3 years will be paid. This new verison included some 9 months of development and whole software was redeveloped from scratch, thus we need to sell it separately. However, we plan to have special offer for all of our customers who purchased version 1.x - both for Flame Painter 2.0 and for our future programs. Please check our Facebook page or blogs on our web site on May 21st to catch that offer. Regards, Jozef.

********************************

However the vendor handles the upgrade to V2, I plan on picking up V1 here on BDJ. We are talking about $10, and I would have paid full price if I had learned about this without a chance to get the BDJ discount. Sure... I would like to get V2 for free, but it sounds as if there has been a lot of work put into rebuilding the thing from the ground up and I'll simply choose to consider the $10 for V1 as a way of supporting the developers of a program I really like and wish I had known about sooner.

Harry Stadman I read on the blog that they will provide an upgrade path...Probably reduced price for existing users...

"Peter Blaskovic tom • 2 days ago -
Hello Tom, We believe that all our users which bought a 1.x version will get a fair treatment and we plan to give everyone who purchased it a special offer. Please keep track of our FB page as well as our newsletter and blog to not miss it. Of course if for any reason you are not satisfied with Flame Painter you can still obtain a full refund."

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear all,

sorry for late reply. Definitely we plan to offer significant discount to all owners of Flame Painter 1.x.

We prepared this promotion in order to give you a chance to either try cheaper version of our software, and if you like it, we are preparing 15 USD discount for all Bits du Jour customers, which means you can get double package of 1.x and 2.0 versions of Flame Painter at the price below Flame Painter 2.0 price alone.

Best regards,
Jozef

Software Guy Definitely recommend that you give the trial demo version a try. The program is small in size and loads quickly. In the demo/trial you can't save or print but everything else works. It is fun, but definitely has a learning curve. It is easy to set the gradient colors, and easy to adjust the sliders to learn their effect. Fortunately they have provided a 'clear artwork' button under the tools tab - especially useful to get the initial feel of the program. And the chaos slider seems to make strokes unpredictably variable.
Some of the effects are also perfect for highlighting photos with color, or light, or simply to draw attention. Recommend that you give it a try.

Stefan Hauber Haven't tried it (yet), but it looks like a very interesting program and the discount of 50% always seems to be a good reason to consider buying a nice program now, like: now or never.

But... BDJ always offers the newest versions. Technically this might also be true for this one today, but in only a few days the bought version turns to become an old version and even if v1 might be a good program, using it will always bring the thought with it: 'this or that might be much easier or perhaps even better looking with v2'. So if I like v1 I will nearly be forced to buy v2...

And considering, that v2 is an upgrade, (1) I can't give away my old v1 to another person (2) I suppose, it will have all the features v1 has (and some more), so there is nearly no advantage owning v1 and v2 (against just owning v2). Please correct me, if I am wrong...
So it makes (for me) because of the learning curve, not really sense to use v1 before upgrading to v2. (And for just checking it out, I can use the trial too.)

So, assuming I like v1, and I am buying v2 later, the real discount is about $5 (15$ minus the payed 10$ today), which would result in a discount of 25% if the price of v2 is again 20$, 16,7% if it's 30$ and 12,5% if it's 40$. Btw.: Can you tell us concretely what the price for v2 will be?

Of course, this is better than nothing, but far away from the discount of 50%. Thanks to the user-queries above these facts are clarified now.

I really hope this is no strategy-road much vendors will go: Selling their, only still a short-time actual. products at a discounted price to get the buyers on the hook. Luckily it's often the opposite: E.g. RevoUninstaller created a new version a quiet short time ago and offers it now at BDJ for 50%. Surely this one will be the actual version for many months now.

Again: I am not arguing about the product or it's price. Just about the strategy.

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear Stefan and all,

thank you for your comment - here I would like to point out that v2 is not just an upgrade, but completely new software redeveloped from scratch, basically we spent last 9 months working in parallel on both 2.0 and upgrading 1.x to 1.7. Flame Painter 1.7 actually includes a lot of features we originally wanted to include only in Flame Painter 2.0.

Regarding 2.0 pricing - there will be 2 separate version of Flame Painter 2.0 with personal costing 29.90 USD and available with 15 USD discount for all 1.x buyers, with additional 5 USD voucher for customers buying recently, i.e., Bits du Jour customers will get the upgrade for 10 USD only, still reaching 33% discount on Flame Painter 2.0.

The same will go for professional version where the discount is from 59.90 to 29.90, i.e., BdJ customers will still get a 33% discount.

At the same time - Flame Painter 1.7 is fully featured program giving fun to thousands of users and we are sure you will enjoy it even in case you won't upgrade to the new version.

Thanks, Peter, for your answers, especially for the concrete prices.

Do you already have a comparison chart between 1.x and 2.0 Std and 2.0 Pro (or if not, can you point out the differences between 2.0 Std and Pro)? (And: Is there something in 1.x, which is not inside 2.0 Standard?)

" >> v2 is not just an upgrade, but completely new software"

When buying today, am I allowed to give away the just bought version to another person, when buying the new 2.x version for a discounted price, when it comes out?

Louis H The more I read up on the soon to be released Version 2, the happier I am that BDJ has helped to make folks aware of this wonderful, creative, and fun program.

According to the vendor's blog, they are working on developing a plugin for PS and other graphic editor. Very nice.

It can be used on all of your computers.... just not at the same time.

and then in the FAQs, I found this....

- If you lost your computer, be happy your family and friends are healthy, it's more important than lost computer. And we can still send you your installation file and Registration Key :).

I like the vendor's attitude, view of life, and understanding that stuff happens beyond one's control, and having to worry about getting a new installation file and registration key should not have to be even a low priority source of stress.

So thank you, to both the developer for offering and BDJ for arranging this one!

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear Louis,

thank you very much for kind words! I really hope you will have a lot of fun with Flame Painter.

We love this project - actually Escape motions is still more a group of friends than standard company - even though we have now full team of 7 people who worked on Flame Painter 2.0 (some just part time), all of us know most of the others for some 10-15 years since childhood. And we would love to have such a relationship also with Flame Painter users :)

Well, we need to sell our product to survive :), but more important is still to have fun for both us and you :)

Thanks once again and hope to see your paintings in the Flame gallery!

************************
PS: We work on Photoshop plugin, but we still cannot guarantee the good result, so sorry if we won't be able to make it fully featured plugin, but there will definitely be tighter connection as we know a lot of people would use it. However, we will do our best to make it work as well as possible.. :)

Louis H You are welcome, Peter.

As to the Plugin aspect of things......

If it happens great. I will not hold your feet to the fire on that one. Especially in light of the recent changes with Adobe and their decision to focus on a cloud approach. I'd rather have you all focus on the development of the program itself than fret over whether or not it can be fully integrated with PS.

I am spreading the word about Flame Painter to folks I know. Hopefully it will generate a few extra sales.

Thanks again, to all of the team, for their dedication and hard work. I do indeed get the feel from this program that there is more behind it than simply a way to make a living. We all need to earn so we can pay for those things we need and would like to have, but part of what I believe we all need, as well, is a sense of pride in (and to be able to enjoy) the work we do. When you can get paid, pride, and pleasure from your work..... it is a wonderful feeling.

You all deserve to be both proud of the results of your labors and able to make enough money to reward those labors. (It sounds as if the pleasure has been there all along. Even if there were times when some aspect or other of misbehaving code had you all feeling like screaming.)

Here's to the success of Flame Painter 2.0!!!

Harry Stadman I for sure would love a photoshop plug-in. This way we/i don't have to go out of the editor to do some editing and come back again. Then we can do the edits in the editor.

For now, this version and version 2 will do until the photoshop plug-in comes out!

Chris Hi Peter Blaskovic,

I found your program a long time ago as I love playing with graphics. I got the email you sent out to your customers and am wondering what sort of discount you will give us full price customers such as myself.

As I already own this software, it seems unfair to offer new customers a bigger discount on the new version 2.

Thanks.....

Louis H I may get into trouble here, but it really is not unusual for a vendor to only offer an extra discount to those who came on board within a short time of buying the previous version.

While I certainly like, and currently enjoy, the opportunity to buy a "Lifetime" license for a program, I do not expect every vendor to cut me the same deal as people who purchased the version right before a new upgrade.

Peter has already made it clear what the discount will be for previous users, Chris, to upgrade to Version 2. The extra discount is going to be for those who came on board since April.

If I had learned about this program a long time ago, or even within the last week, and did not have chance to pick it up here at BDJ at a discount, I would paid full price for it. And I would pay whatever the developer decided to charge as the upgrade price.

Yes, those of us who are only now purchasing the program are indeed getting a killer deal and discount, but that is how deals go. I have paid a lot more for some of the programs I use than others who happened to make a purchase during a promotion. I have missed many discounts. And more often than not, I am a day late for many deals. If it is a program that I know I will use a lot, I will go ahead and pick it up, deal or no deal. If it is something I would like to have, but don't actively need, I may indeed put off making a purchase.

One recent deal was for the Complete suite of Nik Software. I almost paid the former full price of nearly $500 but decided I did not actually need the programs and could wait until the next Thanksgiving or Christmas sales they normally have. Well, low and behold, Google decides to buy Nik and came out with the entire suite for PS AND LR for $150. I lucked out for that one, but there are many who had, in years past, paid the full price. that is they way it goes sometimes. (And I have been on their end as well.)

Whatever Peter and Escape Motions decides to do is up to them, but I wonder if being charged an extra $5 dollars for all the time you have been able to enjoy the program is truly all that unfair.

Eustace Phenackertiban I'm convinced! I downloaded the demo, tried it out, then checked the Web site and read up on existing and coming features. Purchased today, and one thing I should mention is that when you get the initial registration screen (on first startup), it does not put an icon in Windows' task bar. This makes it difficult to flip back and forth to copy/paste one's registration code and email address into the required fields. Also, it would have been nice if the full installation detected and offered to remove the demo installation before installing. Just sayin'... ;-)

Anyway, those are minor issues with the install process that you can address. I'm really enjoying learning the program, and can't wait to try integrating some creations with Photoshop CS6. Really looking forward to version 2.0, as well!

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear Chris,

all Flame Painter 1.x customers are getting the 15 USD discount except of those ones buying it really recently after the update was imminent, who get 5 USD on top of this to make sure they get 2.0 cheaper than full price.

I hope that is fine for you as the benefit for those who bought it longer ago was primarily a chance to enjoy the software (which I believe is the primary purpose of it) for a long time with all the previous updates being free. We have thought for a long time on how to set the discount for various users of 1.x and we hope this is the fair options as it is relatively simple and we really did not want to complicate the offer with various tiers of users. The discount for everyone is quite significant, and especially for Pro version, you will get discount higher than what you paid for the application even though you have already used it for a long time.

Tazzie Thanks so much for extending the promotion. I didn't realize before that my post went up empty. I may be late to the party, but thankful that I'm not too late for this great deal ;)

I got a bit confused with the pricing, but do appreciate your efforts to provide a more than fair and tempting deal!

This software is unique and interesting, although I'm afraid my significant other might not be as thankful when I spend too much time playing around with it :) Seriously, thanks to BDJ for finding this great program and to all of you for working out a great deal. Now, what kind of deal can you give me for brown-nosing? ;)

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear all,

thank you very much for taking part in this promotion (and of course thanks goes also to Bits du Jour to organize this).

I hope you, who purchased Flame Painter, would like it and spend a lot of enjoyable moments with the program. It would be great if you can inspire other Flame Painter users by publishing your pictures in Flame gallery at http://www.escapemotions.com/gallery/

And if you did not manage to get Flame Painter in this promotion, you can still check http://flame.escapemotions.com for the new version Flame Painter 2.0 which is coming online next week, on May 21st

____________________________________________

I do not hide my disappointment.
I did not even have to launch the software planted even before opening.
I'm Windonws 7. You said on your website that was compatible windows 7 yet?
I wonder if the download link was good, because the name contained in the installer talked about in connection with XP x86 so rather than seven.

I bought the pro version from your site yet?
Was it really this version?
Thank you to respond quickly.

Peter Blaskovic - Escape Motions Dear Marko,

please send us email at "support (at) escapemotions.com" where our support guys will be able to help you with the problem.

Flame Painter is tested on Win 7 and is fully compatible, so I am not sure where is the problem for your specific case. Regarding version which you have - currently for Flame Painter 1.7 we have only one version. Pro version of Flame Painter 2.0 is not available yet and will be released only next week on Tuesday 21st.

Please maybe try once again to download from here: http://www.escapemotions....wnload.php - it requires your ID (email) and registration key which you should have received from us by email.

However, if that does not work, definitely shoot us an email with details (please in English if possible as we do not have French speakers in our team) and we will try to help you as soon as possible.

standard issue with this is that when copying from email, there is hidden space at the end of registration key, which you need to delete. Please check it out (nearly all registration issues are with this). If you try that and does not work, please send us an email as Terri did.

Louis H Terri...

A couple of questions..

A)Are you on Facebook? If so, you might try contacting them via their Facebook page since the support line appears to not be accepting your email.

B)Does everything else work with the program? From your comments it sounds as if your actual problem is you cannot load in an image to use. Is that correct? In other words, the program loads ok but when you click on the File menu and select OPEN, it does not bring up a file manager to allow you to choose a photo? Or it does, but won't actually load the photo? Or?

(P.S. What system are you using? Mac or PC? (I can't help if it's a MAC. Sorry.))

P.P.S. are you using the same email you registered and/or paid with?

I am very sorry for that. I do not know why your email was refused. We do not have any email from you (I checked both "terri" and "mertz"). Sorry to ask you to leave your email here - that is definitely not the best solution :( Actually other option is to contact us via facebook - please find "Flame Painter" site at https://www.facebook.com/...ge?fref=ts and write us there, or contact my colleague "Jozef Bardik" by personal message - he will take care of it.

Louis H Terri... If the program is working, you should be able to automatically start with a blank canvas and paint on it. If it does not even load a blank canvas to start with, you might try (if you have not already done so) uninstalling, downloading a fresh copy, and reinstalling. This is just a suggestion IF you have not already done this.

My copy (on a Dell PC Win & Home Premium) opens with a blank canvas and I can start in painting away. So if you are not even able to do this, it does sound as if the installed program is somehow corrupt.

I am sure the folks on the FB page can suggest other possible options.

Ben Paturzo You can also go to their website and order the Pro version for 39, which is easier than buying the personal then upgrading to the pro.

Just beware: last time FP was offered, the great "deal" was for ver 1, which was good for 4 days, when the company released the "new" version 2. Of course, you got a chance to "upgrade" for a "small" fee.

Guys, if you buy this program -- and it IS a fabulous program -- don't be surprised if within a week the "new" will appear, which you will be able to upgrade for a "small" fee.

Kinda shady, no?

Gde Swart @Ben Paturzo
I remember they were quite upfront that 2.0 was due soon and there would be a discounted price if we wanted to upgrade. Combined, the upgrade was still less than buying 2.0 alone. I would only think it was "shady" if they deactivated the old 1.x and forced the upgrade. What you're describing sounds more like a clearance sale. We got what we paid for with the option to upgrade.
You're right, it is a fabulous program. Personally I'm so enamored with Flame Painter I can't wait to see what the next version offers, but I think Amberlight is where they're focusing their efforts right now. I think the plan is to offer current FP owners a discount on Amberlight when it is released. It looks pretty interesting too.

Mark Johnson I am interested in purchasing this program, but like some others have said here I would most likely be upgrading to the Pro version. I understand that is a $30 upgrade, per the posts here. Somebody stated above that you can directly purchase the pro version on the company's website, but I do not see that, so I'm assuming that upgrading to pro after the $8.99 purchase would be the best option.

However, I am still concerned about that. When I go to your website, I see upgrade options, but that does not include upgrading standard to pro.

Carmen Mazza stated above, "In the Flame Painter program I go to help and then choose upgrade to pro version. I thake me to their site. I see upgrade, click it but there is no pricing for personel to pro upgrade with a $30.00 discount. If I click see pricing all I see is the full price for the pro version for $59.99".

There is no answer given here to the upgrade problem reported by Carmen. It sounds like if you purchase the program and click on 'Help' then 'Upgrade', you go to the same exact upgrade webpage that I am able to see without purchasing the product. I definitely do not see an option there to upgrade from Personal to Pro.

Can you please post here how somebody that purchases the Personal version through this special today can then upgrade to the Pro version? It definitely does not sound as simple as "Buy it, then click on 'Help' - 'Upgrade'".

Dear Mark,

when purchasing from BitsDuJour, the Personal version already includes the right "Upgrade to Pro" link which leads to website with all information needed for the Upgrade. We changed this link right before this promotion, so the version purchased before (like Carmen's) does not, unfortunately include this link (we are solving this issue with Carmen via our support email).

The coupon is valid 24 hours only, which means you need to apply the generated discount coupon within 24 hours. Your Pro license is not time-limited.

Thank you for your interest in Flame Painter and I hope you will enjoy all of its features!

Ben Paturzo Sorry for the confusion about my comment about the 39 upgrade for ver 2 Pro -- that assumes you already own ver 1. BitsDuJour deleted my response to Gde Swart, so I'm not sure this comment will be allowed.

Again, be warned that this low price is probably just a way for the devs to raise money for Amberlight. I don't think this business model is fair unless the devs are upfront about it.

Ralph Bressler I just tried to upgrade to pro and ran into the 24 hour limitation! I was away all day on an emergency and missed the upgrade by about 2 hours! This is the CRAZIEST scheme I have ever seen for upgrading! Other software authors/vendors accept upgrades at just about any time after the purchase. Dear Ralph,

The 24-hour limit is ONLY for the discount coupon. The reason is that users might share this discount coupon with others, who are not eligible for the discount. Therefore we change this discount coupon regularly. As a Flame Painter user, you are ALWAYS eligible for $30 upgrade to Pro discount.

E-mail them and explain what happened. Support has been responsive in my experience. They do want customers to buy their software, they just don't want unused coupon codes floating around.
I wonder if you uninstall Flame Painter and then re-install it, if that would reset the 24 hour upgrade clock? It might be worth trying. If it works, I'd love to hear about it and I'm sure others would to.

Mark Johnson If I am understanding what Veronika is saying correctly, a registered user of the Personal version is eligible to upgrade to Pro version for $29.99 at any time, not just during the next day or week or month.

Apparently where the upgrade webpage states, "Discount coupon is valid 24 hours" all that means is that a new coupon is generated every 24 hours to prevent coupon-sharing websites from taking advantage of the discount price.

I recommend that EscapeMotions changes the wording on the discount coupon text. It definitely makes users think they only have 24 hours to upgrade the product. Perhaps instead of saying "Discount coupon is valid 24 hours" it could instead say something like "A new discount coupon code is generated daily; this code is valid for 24 hours only".

H. H. @bdj customer
At this discounted price - and for the personal edition - userfriendly policy (all owned computers) I´d highly recommend buying for people which like creative unconventional paintingk tools. It´s really fun to discover the possibilities and I was glad, that another bdj-user had recommended this nice software, when a similiar software for mac had been offered, alhtough I had paid the non-discounte price.

@developer
I´m also registered user of the pro version, but I´m unhappy with the very strict user- policy, since I´m the only user of the product and do not use it commercially I´d at least wish to be allowed to install it at an owned NB too.

2. perhaps it may be interesting for bdj-customer to tell if they will also get a discounte price for the announced ( 10.12.2013) new product "amberlight".

3. Sorry for asking this, but since I already made bad experiences (hvbing bought software license, but - although licenses were unused - not been ablie to activate software, since the company gave up business and shut down their license server): will you gurantee, that the license server will run permanently - or in case (hopefully not)( your company wouldn´t exist any more - make the software usable with a mastercode or free (the developer of "fflow" has done this,so it was a fair hnandling)

4. suggestion: it woul,d be fine, if the feature of your "sandbox" "magic" - e.g.with choosing own colors, making snapshot of the resulting pcitres,.. would be availabe within another product or as a new piece of software

H.H.

V M Norton indicated the following:

WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.

The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.

thanks Rookie

Ralph Bressler I thought so. I, of course, cannot speak to any real threat posed by software that Norton tags with this "reputation" error. I can say I have NEVER had a problem with software distributed through BDJ which came up with this "error". As the message says it is not based on any specific threat. If everyone had Norton and heeded this message, no new software could ever be developed. You should have been given a chance to ignore this "threat". It is up to you whether or not you want to do so.

Had the same problem (using Norton Internet Security 2014) but at the bottom of the warning screen, there is an option to Restore the file which means Norton then takes the file out of quarantine and then back into the location to where you downloaded it originally. In my case I could also tick a box to prevent NIS to check and remove the file during future security scans.

The WS.Reputation,1 detection is something that does not indicate a virus but low reputation in the sense thatfew Norton users downloaded the file.

I have done the Restore and installed the file. A scan once the programme installed did not reveal anything abnormal.
