What are people saying about Focus Photoeditor

Michael R. Wow! Screenshots are quite promising...

Does FocusPhotoeditor has some functionality for creating HDR-photos or 3D-pictures?
Feb 21 2012 at 6:19pm Copy Link

Francesco Savastano Hi Michael. There is not a true HDR support, however you can use a lot of techniques in the software to merge the bracketed shots into one picture, using layers and selections. Then you can use the Curves Dynamizer and the Light Zones Curves tools to fine tune the tones of the merged picture.

Daniel Kamman Can I buy two copies, one for me, one for a friend? If yes, what is the license activation procedure?
Feb 23 2012 at 8:24am Copy Link
0
Francesco Savastano hi Daniel! Yes you can buy multiple licenses at one time, there is no limit! If you buy them all at once you will need to register with the same registration data. License can be given to any other person once purchased. If you want them registered to different names you should place two different orders for your convenience.
The registration is very easy. Just Copy and Paste the Reg.Name and Reg. Code that you will get to your email and insert them in the registration form that you can access in the software from the help menu.

Harald Vogel In you policy you state that about major upgrades: "It will be discounted only if you've purchased the last major version."

What are your planes / life cycles for major upgrades? Do you plan a major upgrade ones a year or when you add a special feature or the Firefox / Chrome upgrade cycle?

I'm always looking for new photo tools and have never heard of FP before and your are already at Version 6.x I also couldn't find any changelog on your website. Also there seem to be no Tutorials or help files online. Do you have any plans for Tutorial videos?

Thanks.

Louis H Sent an email to the vendor, but thought I'd made the folks at BDJ aware as well..

Purchased Focus Photoeditor. Paypal processed the payment. Returned to the screen where RegNow confirms the purchase... and..... under the place where it states....

Order Details
Focus Photoeditor (12451-1)
Support E-Mail: NWS Centurybyte (nwscenturybyte.com)
Loading...

It stalls where it is says Loading.......

I did get the receipt from PayPal, but nothing else from RegNow or from the vendor. I am assuming there is a problem since the order confirmation page seems stuck in the phase of "Loading." But am open to other possibilities. ;-)

I know it will all get sorted out eventually, but thought I'd let you know there may be a problem with the order generating the license info.

Thanks

P.S. Under the following...

Billing Information
Order ID: #######-######
Order Total: $10.34 USD [ Receipt ]

When I click on the "Receipt" link, I am told it cannot find the order.

Francesco Savastano Hi Arald,

we don't relase the Focus Photoeditor 7 before of six months.
Usually the major version is released after one or two year.
Here you can find the Focus Photoeditor 6.x History
http://www.nwspro.com/fp_history.htm
About the tutorial you can find it at:
http://www.nwspro.com/fp_Tutorial1.htm
This is a video tutorial
http://www.youtube.com/wa...KqWCSrFKi4

I think also that you don't have download the program because you can find basic tutorial in the Help menu under Contents or simply press the F1 button.

Harald Vogel Hello Fabrizio,

thank you for your answer and the helpful links. Does that mean in about six month I have to invest another $24 to get the latest version or do you have plans to make the price then for the upgrade or full version more expensive?

Or do you have some form of upgrade protection for a year so that buying today will include the upgrade to version 7?
Feb 24 2012 at 4:56am Copy Link
0
Francesco Savastano Don't worry Harald, when the version 7 is relased all buyers of the version 6 will receive an email to purchase it with a 50% discount and the full price is always $47 so you have to invest only another $24

Software Guy Had not seen this software before it was listed as upcoming on BDJ. Tried it and am pleasantly surprised. User license for install on all of your computers, with features like QuickFix, batch, RAW support, full features with intuitive layouts, and some neat special effects for $10.34 today on BitsduJour - wow. This is a great deal. And it includes some unique effects.
Personally, I don't like spending lots of time editing photos and tend to avoid it when possible. But I will say that this program did make it easy, yet still had professional features like RGB curves. Great emphasis on light control. Also has a nice object removal tool built right in. Easy color swap. Gradient effects..
I did not try the paint editor but it looked to be full featured. The programs also has layers, transparency and blending.
Looks to be a very nice do it all tool for photo editing. It seems comparable to much more expensive photo editing programs. It is going on my laptop to replace some much more expensive programs right now (the laptop because that is what I would use to play with photos while passing time or watching tv. Putting it on the computer I use the most is a nice complement because I don't load that up with software).
In a crowded field, this program distinguishes itself with many editing features including professional ones, and many nice effects at a great price. To me, this is a must have. To all tthat I have pointed it out really like it. At $10.34 today, it is a must have.

Francesco Savastano I confirm RegNow is broken in the sense that it is not sending the receipts and the control panel for vendors is not accessible. I have tested myself placing an order 5 minutes ago. I did not get the receipt yet. Also for now we are not able to log-in in the Regnow control panel, and we cannot check the orders. IF you have placed an order please contact us directly, we are trying to sort this out. We are sorry but it does not depend from us. We will surely keep track of all emails and orders and send you the license as soon as possible. We have also contacted BDJ explaining the problems.

If you buy now the deal you get a license to use current version 6.x and all minor updates, plus you get 50% discount on next major upgrade, which will not be sooner than 6 months. We may even decide to offer a bigger discount for version 7, but 50% is garanteed. The price of version 7 most probably will be in $, we want to switch again to dollar but it also depends on the currency trends.

state in your email your order number and every information you have to confirm the transaction.

An Update for the problems with the ordering system is finally available from digitalriver. Notice that orders are still working, only the delivery of the receipts of the orders will be delayed.

"Late yesterday afternoon (CST), Digital River experienced an abrupt and extremely rare hardware malfunction that impacted a disk array in one of our data centers. In their experience, our vendors have never seen a situation like this before.

As a result, some of our service areas have been impacted. While we understand you can't access your admin interface at this time, we want to assure you that your online stores are operational and your customers can continue to place orders. Confirmations for the orders and fulfillment will be delayed until the hardware problem has been fixed.

We have all our best technical experts working along with our vendors' top engineers — and they are doing everything possible to fix the problem as quickly as possible."

Jason Howard I really don't like the "sales pitch" style websites like on http://focusphotoeditor.com/

It looks too much like one of those "you are the 1 Millionth Visitor - buy me now" pop-up browser windows, and it can come across as condescending to many users. Too many dodgy products and services use (really amateurish) websites like this, which can turn users off before they even try your software.

Much better to use http://www.nwspro.com/fp.htm instead if you want to present Focus Photoeditor in a more professional light.

Software Guy Picked this one up last time it was offered. It is a nice, small but well featured editor. Recommend reading some of the old comments and also looking at the screenshots - notice the first one with the old mill - most adjustments are are this single page, rather spread all over several menu tabs. This makes it relatively easy to use for most adjustments. The only other software that also does this is corel's aftershot, which is the newest version of the Bibble editor. And aftershot is at least 4 times today's cost and actually has less features than Focus Photoeditor.
Another thing to note is that most photo editors license per computer, but this is per user, which is great for people with more than one computer.
This program features text effects, some interesting light effects, and very imprtantly it also features layers. It also sports a batch processor and a neat little quick fix wizard. It has decent RAW support, color masks, a clone tool and some interesting filter effects like water color. Plenty of auto-adjust settings.
IMHO it is a bargain at 16.50$. ***For most editing needs, this software is more than sufficient without the cost or hassles of the big box software names. Definitely recommended. *** Download and try - you will find yourself having great fun with it's many features. At least put it on your laptop for full editing capabilities anywhere - it has become invaluable to me on my laptop for quick adjustments on the spot for that demanding customer/friend/spouse). It is a deal at $16.50.

Brian H Hi- I agree with "Software Guy"- I think that there is a lot of like about this product and the company behind it. I think Jason's criticism of the product website were a bit harsh- though he is entitled to his opinion, of course. I personally don't find anything offensive about the website. Photo editing is a competitive field, and this company is just trying to make as many sales points as they can, to inform the consumer of the program benefits before he or she buys. I didn't see anything that I felt was "dodgy" about it. They always say "you can't judge a book by it's cover", well I think the same often holds true for software products and their websites. For me, it is more about the quality of the product being offered, the EULA and terms of use, and also how responsive and genuine the developers or company representatives present themselves (and I think Fabrizio has been quite attentive and most gracious in his responses here on BDJ today). Just my $0.02 as an average software consumer. :-) -Brian

Jason Howard @Brian H - to be fair my criticism was intended to be constructive. The style of the mentioned website is very similar to that adopted by a lot of smaller / affiliate / fly-by-night products. In no way was I inferring that this was the case with the actual software. I was simply pointing out that I believed the software could be presented in a far more professional light, than feeling like you are being "sat down" to endure a hard-sell sales presentation.

Fabrizio took my comments as they were intended (I believe). I often work with developers prior to them submitting their software for promotions. I know that most appreciate the feedback if it means that users will be more receptive to the "first impression" of the software.

That being said - I also have purchased Focus Photoeditor and I'm very happy with it.

Francesco Savastano Hello Brian and Jason, I think we all agree that there is something to improve in our web presentation, but of course we are doing our best right now to invite more users to try and appreciate our software. We had planned a new mini-site but the person that was in charge for that didn't deliver in time, so we had to use the old one with few modifications.
I very much appreciate any comments, and I think they all were very constructive.
All the best and all God's blesses to all.

Louis H I like this website,

for the software,

much better than the one linked above,

The nwspro site gives a much more professional and solid feel to the company and the product. So for those of you who are considering purchasing this program, please check out the nwspro site before letting the other site distract you.

It's a great program.

Frank Stephens I was hesitant to try this as the implication was that it's using old code. It installed cleanly. It's a bit primitive in some ways and sophisticated in others. It's not as cheap as it was, but still a bargain. I only had time to try it briefly, if I had known that I had another day to order I would have spent more time with it. It seems useful for particular types of quick adjustments. It's using 32-bit code, and likely slower than some photo editors. The code needs to be signed with the version indicated, and the Digital River download is smaller than the trial and likely older. The ordering was a bit strange, at least via PayPal, it appeared to be ordering twice but was only one order.

Oct 25 2012 at 3:49am Copy Link

Francesco Savastano Hello VLM, there is a basic support for editing metadata in the picture browser, you can edit the usual Windows Tags for keywords, Author, Description.

Notice that Fous Photoeditor always copies back your exif and IPTC data if existing already on file, when saving to file supporting metadata such as JPG and TIFF

Francesco Savastano Hello Frank, thanks for your feedback. So far I haven't seen serious complaints about speed. The addition of process intensive filters in this version may have had an impact on the perceived speed. But we did want to have nice and professional results with the new filters. We are satisfied with the quality of the additions and we think we did better than competitors in this respect, so I do not think it can be said it's old code :O
However we try to make the preview as fast as possible, to be able to quickly assess the filter settings that look right for that image. We will keep your point in mind!

Flash Gordon ...bought the application yesterday. Download was version 6.3 / needed to go to the website to download 6.5. Where are the 150 cameras listed? As regards filters, are Harry's Filters it? When searching for Plugin.dll, how do you get the application to look in other drives besides C:\?
The application has a short learning curve and does what I want done quickly and effectively. Glad I purchased it.

Francesco Savastano Hello Donald,
yes it handles RAW, we constantly keep updated the list of supported formats. In v. 6.5.0.2 (latest release) we added support for newer cameras such as Canon Ti4 (650 D)

the download on BDJ is the right one (v. 6.5). there is a list of cameras here, but we need to update it (it is the old list):
http://nwspro.com/raw_list.htm
I believe there is no way to make it look for the plugin.dll in other drives than c, we will add that in next update. Keep in mind however that the plugin.dll is only useful for very old filters and it is not used any longer by the vadst majority of plugins.
Thanks again for your feedback.

VLM Fabrizio Mosca - Thank you for your response, above.

1. I do not understand what you mean here: "Fous Photoeditor always copies back your exif and IPTC data if existing already on file, when saving to file supporting metadata such as JPG and TIFF"

Could you kindly clarify for someone who is not a graphic designer?

2. By metadata, I mean date, time, location ... the type of metadata that can lead predators to the front door of my grandchild's home, school, or the like. ???

Brian H Hi Fabrizio,

Love your program and as an existing user, I am very excited about new additions in version 6.5!!! :-)

Question- I am current license holder/user of two licenses of version 6.3.1.1. (purchased on May, 2012 - just about 6 months ago). Would my upgrade to this new version, 6.5, be considered "minor" (and therefore "complementary" for me") or is it considered "major" and would require additional funds? I tried to find the answer to this on your company website last night, but wasn't able to see where it was specifically addressed. If you would please let me know, when you have a chance, I would really appreciate it. Thanks. :-) -Brian

Software Guy Great general purpose photoeditor. Very nice price AND a user license which makes for an exceptional deal.
Lots of improvements in this new version, the best of which are the very nice art filters. IMHO, the art filters are worth the price even if you have and use another editor. Get one of your favorite photos and convert it to art, ship it out to be put on a poster or on canvas and hang it where everyone can see it. And they added a saturation slider to boost colors, which is great for photos and it really helps in the step before conversion to art.
This version offered is 6.5. Now Focus PhotoEditorhas been offered before, so if you bought it earlier you are entitled to a few more upgrades - for example the version offered May 2012 featured this wonderful promotional if you bought:

"BitsDuJour will be offering Focus Photoeditor on Thursday 24 May, 2012 at the dramatically reduced price of $16.50.
The normal purchase price for Focus Photoeditor is $47.00!
And not only that!
If you purchase your license of Focus Photoeditor during this promotion you will get also a free upgrade to next major version (v. 7), and also the right to upgrade for a 50% discount to any other major version after that."
One would assume it includes an upgrade to this version.

The folks at NeWest CenturyByte are clearly trying harder to bring users good value and establish a solid user base. So you might want to give this editor a chance, even if you have another editor. And the art filters are great! Some photo to art programs cost far more (and it is frequently hard to find pleasing results with some of them).
NeWest - please keep the art filters and improvements coming! Thanks!

@Tazzie, there is only one version of Focus Photoeditor, it is already a pro version that can be used in many types of jobs, from web design's photo and image editing, to normal photo editing, it allows batch processing, printing very precisely, it also allows very precise editing, for web design it is the only editor that can position layers exactly at the pixel using numerical edits, it can load most of the RAW Formats and has a very wide collection of tools and options to achieve the perfect look of your pictures. There's much more of coure, you can try its features by downloading the trial version. Hope it helps

CodeDog Thank you very much for the quick reply, Fabrizio.

I use quite a few photo editors, but I find that not only is Focus very easy to work with and has a ton of features, but it also does a fantastic job at auto corrections.

It can remove (or lessen) shadows better than just about anything else I've used, the color correction is great, and it has more standard editing features than I expected.

Very nice program...

Frank Stephens Photo Editors tend to be either free or pricey. I think that a lot of people will mistakenly assume that this editor doesn't do much because the price is low. Focus Photoeditor is an excellent value. It has many well-implemented features and algorithms, although I find that some are a little slow on large photos. To see what this can do, see the video tutorial which thierry martin uploaded to YouTube. Focus Photoeditor has some interesting algorithms which you are unlikely to find elsewhere, and some features which are relatively rare. Recommended.

Louis H @ Francesco...

Any nearer to releasing version 7? Looking back over the previous discount offers here at BDJ, and being a satisfied user since Feb 2012, I was wondering how the development is going towards V7.

Also, currently "The Fine Print" is not clear and folks may not understand that, based on your replies in previous discount offers, they are getting all minor updates with the Version they purchase and will only need to pay for an upgrade to V7 IF that release is more than 4 months AFTER purchasing the current version. Is that still correct?

Thanks.

As previously mentioned, I remain a very satisfied customer.

@Louis, thanks for your appreciation, yes we have plans to release version 7 in some months. Most probably we will not be able to put all the new things in it at once, but we count to add them gradually as we always do, by growing the minor versions.

Yes your statement about the upgrade policy is correct. All minor versions are free and version 7 is free too if it happens within next 4 months, else a small fee is required to upgrade.

@Thierry yes that could be surely a nice thing to have, we will see what we can do about it. Thanks for your suggestions
