Staley Will there be an option to buy the "Desktop PC + Laptop" license at the BitsDujour discount rate also during checkout? Similar to what several other software vendors have done in past offers...

Roman, ArcticLine No, we promote only standard licese for one PC. It means that if you plan to use Folder Marker alone on several computers, you need to buy an appropriate number of licenses, one license for each computer.

Thank you for this good offer, I am buying it anyway ! But I have one question: Can Folder Marker Pro mark folders also in Outlook 2007/2010 ? If not, please develop this option ! I need this feature

Albert C. I'm interested in buying but have one question: in order to preserve the folder icons, is it necessary to have the program running in the background or any kind of service instead?

Thanks! ^_^

Roman, ArcticLine No. You need to have Folder Marker to chnage folder icon/color, but chnaged icon will stay without any additional software/service.

Nice to know that it's not necessary to have background processes. I'm buying later today when I'm at home.

H. H. Hallo,
do you plan to add the possibility to also add an info-tip to the folder (popping up when mouse-over)? -

It's a feature I really miss, and which is already implemented in e.g. the freeware rainbow folders. Although I bought a license for folder icons pro sometimes ago. and appreciate your prorgram I still have to use rainbow folders quite often because the adding-info-tip feature is still missing in folder marker. Hope that this feature will be implemented next time.

with kind regards

Roman, ArcticLine Please explain, how exactly this fiature should be implemented in Folder Marker? What infor should be added?
ArcticLine Software - Mar 4 2011 at 12:46am Copy Link

H. H. Hallo,
I'll try to explain (if would be fine, if one could not only change the icon, but would have the ability to create a tooltip (individual for each folder one wants), which is shown when hinting with the mouse at the folder (kind of !balloon-tip - info-tip).
I'm sure rainbow folder 2.05 does allow this, they have a special field for adding text comments to a folder, which is really useful.
(jfolders probably is ablote to do this too).

IThe additional text-field in folder marker should have the effect like editing the desktop.ini file with putting the last line as
infotip==

e.g. infotip = interesting shareware

-- "interesting shareware sould be shown when pointing with mouse over the folder.

Of course one could edit the desktop.ini, but a software like foldermarker pro, should be able to make this more comvortable, especiaaly when already freeware is avialable, which is able to do ths.
Hope the explanation helps, if not please ask again, since english is not my native language, it may be, that my explanations are not exactly enough.

with kind regards
H.H.

Roman, ArcticLine I understood your idea, but give an example how exactly it will work (as you see it in your mind). F.ex. now if you want to mark folder, you right-click on it and click Mark Folder-Colors-Red.

Should we apply 'Red' info tip automatically or we should show window where you can enter your custom text for every folder, your variant?

MK Can't this be done already in Windows (Vista/ 7)?

Use Windows built-in icons, or download into a folder any of the free icons from http://www.iconseeker.com/

Then goto Windows Explorer (also works in Directory Opus if you have recently bought it):
1. Right-click folder
2. Select Properties from the menu that pops up
3. Choose the Cutsomize tab
4. Click-on the Change Icon... button
5. Select a built-in icon, or browse to the folder you downloaded icons into
6. OK everything.

It can. This is good solution for those, who like slow way. But if you want easy/fast/convenient way - this is Folder Marker.

H. H. Hallo,
Thank you for asking

I mean the last suggestion with a seperate custom text field

e.g. folder in explorer -- right clicking "mark folder"
-- "more icons" --
e.g. tab "main" -- than selecting the icon the usual kind of way,
but underneath an additional field for typing the "custom text"
(where the 2 check boxes for choosing "making
distributable,.." are.

-- in explorer the icon should have changed as usual,
and additional the custom text should appear (as an
tootip /info-tip popup), when driving with mouse over it
(like it does, when one edits desktop.ini with "InfoTip=custom
text" as last line)
(probably for showing the desktop.ini, and the infotip - custom
text of the folder one has to choose
the "show systemfiles"- in explorer extra-options- menu,
but that shouldn't be a problem))

with kind regards
H.H.

H. H. Hallo,
at last BDJ offer I asked if a feature like creating a tooltip (see old comments for exlanation), showing custom .text when pointing with the mouse on the icon will be implemented (rainbow folders 2.05 already has implemented this feature) - the answer was, that it would be on the todo list. Now I see, that it is still the same version of foldermarker ro as last bdj- offer. Can an udate, with fhis feature implemented bes expected next time?

Pedro Laurent Preston Mitchell you mean Folderico by Shedko? I must agree that both software has the same features and Folderico is free. The only difference is that Folder Marker Pro comes with pre install extra icons that is "the big difference" but I guess they can justify the price for their product and the fact that they sell extra icons with it. The other thing that's surprising is their upgrade policy for this type of software... I guess many people don't live in the same reality.

Preston Mitchell To Pedro:

Actually I meant FolderIco by Developing Ideas at http://folderico.com

Prior to the Bits offer, I searched for a quick method to change the icons of folders. That search lead me to BOTH FolderIco AND Folder Marker. I installed and tried all 3 software.

Although Folder Marker was a little more elegant, I concluded that FolderIco by Developing Ideas was the best value at $19.90. But, yes, if Folder Marker had been offered at a more reasonable price, I might have chosen and bought FM.

Nonetheless, considering how very similiar that both software are...and how limited their function is--just an icon changer....I find that FM's price of $55 to be exceedingly unrealistic. Good luck on selling many copies for $55.
Aug 8 2011 at 7:09am Copy Link

b b I've read those comments and agree, not worth 55 dollars, and I didn't like one of those vista icons in the bundle. But the program in prof version doesn't seem too bad at all, at normal cost is 35 dollars.

Thus, why not apply those 55 p.c. off to the prof. program alone, would be around 16 dollars then, and I'd happily buy, as would many others. Paying for Vista icons I don't like at all, just for having some minor rebate on the program doesn't tempt me.

Since the offer isn't for today yet, my proposal could easily be realized up to then.

b b I didn't want to say the offer should be altered, I'm sorry not having made this clear. There are many offerings here where the discount for the advertized regular software also applies to the professional version even if that's not advertized, just by giving the info here. All I'd been asking for (but didn't clearly express) was such a scheme here, the same discount also for the naked program if people wish to buy just that.

Off-topic: any potential buyer here who really wants those icons? Perhaps I overlooked some value in them here and should have a second look if somebody else told me why they are not bad.

But never fear, we'll get it together. And if for some reason we can't do it before midnight please shoot me an email (rogerbitsdujour.com) and we'll work something out after the fact.

Again, many apologies!

Should I purchase it and note it on their site? I hate to pay the full price and wait for a refund and I hate to miss out on the deal :-) As I mentioned, I have the program on other computers - but never purchased the Everyday portion due to the price.

I don't want to miss out ... lol.

Thanks again!

Michael K I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS.

I just downloaded the trial and found it does not work properly with Opus Directory although when I tried it using Windows Explorer it does not have the same problem

When changing an icon in Opus Directory file manager, it appears as if nothing has changed but by trial and error I found it had changed but the change is only visible after you shut down Opus Directory and restart it.

That is not the case when making a change in Windows Explorer where the change is immediate without having to shut and then re-open Explorer.

I do not have this problem with Folderico although the icon set is not as extensive as Folder Marker Pro.

Is the inability of the software to work correctly with Opus Directory a known problem and likely to be corrected?

By way of comment I also add that the requirement to purchase 2 licenses in order to use it on a PC and a laptop does take the edge off for me.

Thanks

Michael

H. H. Hallo, @ author
as a registered user of foldermarker pro (bought at regular price)
I´m very disappointed, that there hardly seems to be any further development.
One year ago the question regarding an info-tipp poppup (see my older posts) was answered with the comment, that it will be on the todo list, - but when foldermarker was offered again in 08/2011 it still was an unchanged version - and my question if the suggestion (told to be on the todo-list) could be exspected to be implemented at least ntext time simply stayed unanswered.
That´s not a good recommondation for a company selling a product at a high regular price, especially when there are cheaper or free alternatives.
And now it still seems to be version 3.2 - no further development,
no implementation of user-feature rquest,k which were told to be on the todo-list?
what can a customer exspect as improvement winthin next time, which are waiting for develpment for already more thatn 1 year?

@bdj users
some personal experience: at discounted price, when not missing further features (like possibility to add an infotext popping up when hinting on the folder) folder maker may be a deal at the discounted price, iat least it always worked stable on xp media sp3 and is quite handy to use
for colouring folders and adding nfotext to folders the freeware
rainbows folder 2.05 (probably also no further development) can be a good choise
For people which also want to have the possibility to change the icon of an individual f i l e (not only groups of files with a special extension) the only software I ever found until now which is capable to do this seems to be the shareware "icon changer 3.8". which I won´t miss any more.

Tazzie I am not planning to try out this program due to: what I consider a high price plus license restrictions that definitely do not rate such a high price. Limiting to one computer and not offering a discount on future upgrades ... like I am going to shell out 54 plus bucks for each computer for an upgrade on a program just for icons ... NOT! There may be features in this program that are not in other similar programs, but I don't think they are worth the expense. Google for folder/icon programs and you'll find alternatives. There are also free icon websites with very good quality icons for folders as well as regular icons for programs and content.

It's too bad ... it's not the first time, and unfortunately won't be the last time, that restrictive license policies and/or high prices made what could have been a good deal a deal breaker for me.

Roman, ArcticLine Thank you everyone for your comment. Be sure we hear you and think about your wishes. We may not always do the things that you are asking us about (we may disagree or have more priority things) but any, even negative feedback is important for our business.

@Michael K:
We don’t guarantee work of Folder Marker at any not-standard explorer program. Folder Marker is for standard Windows Explorer. But I will forward your request to the developer. We will test and maybe fix problem with Opus Directory file manager, if we have time for that. Thank you for informing us.

@H. H.:
I remember about your request and it is really in our ToDo list. But we believe this thing is not critically important for our users. We have only few similar requests. We are trying to keep Folder Marker as simple as possible and don’t want to implement features that are not important to 95% of our users. More features doesn’t always means better software.
For now I can’t tell you any time estimate.

@Tazzie:
Thank you for your feedback. This promo is good variant for those who think that Folder Marker is overpriced and what to get it for its personal computer. 55%-off is good deal.
If you need Folder Marker for your organization, we offer volume discounts, that make Folder Marker price much more attractive.

@Silat:
You are almost right. But, Rainbow folders is not 100% the same, we are doing the same things in more _convenient_ way. Our buyers are people who can afford an extra price for convenience. For those, who like to solve problems there is even better way: Standard Way that Windows offers. See http://foldermarker.com/h...folder.php

Brian H Hi- I am very interested in the program and the packaged deal being offered. I understand that the icons are not currently supported in "Opus Directory" (though being considered and hopefully will be in an upcoming update); however I would like to know if the icons are currently supported in *any* Windows Explorer (WE) alternative programs (for instance, the XYplorer program currently being offered today here on BDJ). I am not a huge fan of WE, as there are so many better file manager alternatives out there. Please let me know, when you have a chance. Thanks. -Brian

Roman, ArcticLine @Brian H: Folder Marker is not tested at alternative file managers. And will work if file manager works with icons in the same way as Windows Explorer does.
The best way to be sure is test trial version. If it works, paid version will work too.

Mary Wilson I had plans to purchase this, but what I am reading here is giving me second thought on buying this package deal. First I hear that I can not put this on both my laptop and my home system. Next I hear that when you plan to upgrade in the future, you do not offer current users a discount. Both of these things bother me. Does this mean that I would have to buy again Folder Marker Pro and a new Everyday Folder icons bundle again each and every time you have a upgrade? Like others said, the progrma is kind of pricy. Will it have enough changes to make the cost of buying a whole new Folder Marker Pro and Everday folder icons bundle worth it? In addition, I went looking for a picture of all of the different icon in the package and could not find anything? You also mention adding other icons to use with this and could find nothing?
Mar 6 2012 at 4:58am Copy Link

Roman, ArcticLine @Mary Wilson:
The license we sell with discount now is for one computer. True. If you need license for Home computer + Laptop, it is called 'Desktop PC + Laptop' and you can find it here: http://foldermarker.com/ordernow.php

Upgrade policy:
Buying the program now will ensure you get all future updates of it to versions 3.x free of charge. I.e. all minor upgrades (3.x versions) are free, Major upgrades (4.x+) are paid, but we offer discounted price to our current customers. We send the email with coupon code.

To add additional icons you need to find them in internet, then add them to the tab 'User Icons'.

Jan-Christoph Ihrens @Roman: Could you then please correct the information given in the "Policy" tab at the top of the page? Currently it says:

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, *which will not be discounted*."

Tazzie It is good that you offer the discount to paid users.

Am I correct in assuming that the BDJ discount will apply to all versions, including the one for desktop+laptop?

What about those who use a laptop as a desktop replacement (esp one of the huge 17 or 18 inchers) and a netbook ... sort of a downsized version of the desktop/laptop combo ... will the discount apply here, also?

When do you anticipate releasing version 4?

Tazzie I would encourage anyone to check out Rainbow Folders. I've been playing with it and I really like it. It provides a lot of control over exact colors, hues, etc. No limits as far as colors go, and no problems changing the same icon repeatedly. You can also add your own tooltip text. This is just for colorizing icons, though you can pick traditional, XP or Vista/7 styles, but it does it well. Like many other subject areas, sometimes you have to use more than one program to take advantage of each program's strengths. The url for Rainbow Folders, which is free, is http://www.english.aionel.net/rf.htm

Amit I have special intrest in your other software -

1) vista-bootscreen which on BITSDUJOUR page says it can be used for vista as well as windows 7.

and 2) Bee icons.

I downloaded trial of vista bootscreen for trying from the main site and tried on windows 7 64-bit. but when i satrt it it always is giving errors.

Like -
---------------------------
Error ocured
---------------------------
The application has encountered a problem. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If this error will repeat again try to restarts application or send us report Error.log from install directory
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

+

the error. log file's contents are -
8/27/2012 10:57:37 PM: EConvertError
8/27/2012 10:57:37 PM: '' is not a valid integer value

+

I tried runningit under compatibilty mode as vista, vista sp1 and vista sp2 TOO LATER AGAIN - but at all times i recieved the above errors.

So is there any way we can use it on windows 7 64-bit. Or if not right now, will you release a new version which can be used on windows 7 64-bit without a hitch ? I will buy it at the full price from the main site even.

Also bee icons seems to be not working well on windows 7 64-bit. Would really like a newer release. I find it unable to change most of icons of file extensions. Will there be any new release soon enough.

Thanks.

Amit Ok, so what does this software do better than iconpackager of stardock apart from changing multiple folders icons and the icons.

I already have that, so would I get anything more in terms of features ?

And If you do have any thought in mind to update bee icons, I would love to have that update.

THe best way to know is install trial version and try. Folder Marker changes folder icons as iconpackager does, but it works in the other manner. IconPackager is for fun, Folder Marker is for work and productivity.

Danny Apparently there is sown doubts here about the functioning of Folder Marker with file managers as xplorer2 on pc. Question for clarity: can I use Folder Marker used without problems if I FileManager xplorer2 instead of just Windows Explorer?

Roman, ArcticLine Edward Smith, I repsonally don't have ability to remove questions from here if you are talking about question about Folder Marker.

Danny Thys, we've created Folder Marker for Windows Explorer and tested it with Windows Explorer. But we can't warrant stable work on any File Explorer, there are lot of them. So, for you the best way to know is to test trial version. It's free :)
Till now, as I know, we have not received any bug repports about problems with xplorer2, so I think Folder Marker works well with it.

Edward Smith Roman, when I installed the program it said that the trial period had ended (so I must have installed this at some point in the past although I do not remember doing it). My question was how can I test it now under these circumstances (especially now in the short time remaining).

I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still givers me the same response leading me to believe that there are files that remain after deinstallation which I questioned.

I know you did not delete the comment, I was questioning why the Bits folks deleted my comment.

Danny Not a pretty experience with the product service! Small half a year ago I bought this Folder Marker Pro. A few weeks ago a new version released, got through email a discount coupon of 55% applicable at least 5 days. I thought for me a free upgrade, because a year has not yet expired. But upgrade did not work! I go to customer service about this problem, I got after 3 days to hear that that license free upgrade for value of 1 year after purchase is not for me. In the meantime my discount coupon 55% expired. I email back to upgrade discount coupon 55%. What I got back?: a discount coupon of 30%! Well, I am really not agree!!!

David F I sure would like to purchase this, but it just seems pricey for what you are getting. If it is only the folders that are shown, that is nothing compared to what I need. It should be like $4.99 for the application, then it should have a big folder pack for about $3.99 or something like that. If so, I'd jump on it. But, $25 bucks is too much for the value that this product is providing. Sorry but just being honest.

Richard User I am assuming this can't change and folders that are synced with any type of "Cloud Service". In this day and age, the most used folders are also those that are synced and backed up someplace in the cloud and I haven't found a "Folder Changer " that will actually change these types of folders. You can change them, but once the system restarts they revert back to the default icon.

While contemplating the purchase of a second copy for a second computer, I discovered that Win 10 seems to allow me to do the same thing - i.e. change the icon of my folders, so my question is what does Folder Maker Pro add that I can't do with win 10?

Gary User Roman, I use icons not colors for distinguishing my folders - rather simple in win 10 - click properties, customize, change icon. I was hoping you had something more.

Does folder icon pro have a way of synching the icons between two computers? For example, if I create and assign icons on computer 1, then backup the folders to computer 2, can I use a second copy of folder icon pro to sync the changed folder icons for the second computer?
