What are people saying about Folder Marker Pro

Steve Palidin Slows down the right-click Windows Explorer shell menu a lot.

At some point, it caused all my desktop icons to re-arrange themselves. VERY annoying. I uninstalled it after that little trick.

Van Swofford Tried to buy but it got stuck on the "bank website" page, which never loaded. Had the message "waiting for store.iconico.com" in the browser status line. Had to cancel because if I clicked the link for if the bank site didn't load, it just went around and around in circles back to the same spot. Bummer.

Roy Klienwachter I just ordered Folder Maker Pro at a 40% discount $19.40 US and was charged $29.10 Cdn. I think 50% exchange is a little excessive!!
Apr 3 2009 at 1:55pm Copy Link

ArcticLine Software Sorry to say, but we don't have influence on exchange rates. Visa/MasterCard decides how much to charge to get original sum in US Dollars/Euro. So the best way to order without extra fees is to pay in US Dollars without exchange

Roy Klienwachter I think some of the difference comes from the product's regular price being listed on Iconic as $34.95 and just over $45. on the Folder Marker Pro site when you go to order it. There is a discrepancy there.

Steve Kunkel I bought the home version a long time ago. It works well on XP and Vista, and is easy on system resources. The down side is that custom icons must be added one at a time and it cumberson to do so.

Steve Kunkel Clarification: Adding home-made icons to the FolderMarker library is slow... But using FM to add an icon to a folder is fast and smooth (just right-click).

Roman, ArcticLine To add all custom icon together, you can put them to ICL file and copy the file to ICL folder iside the folder, where Folder Marker installed. This will add new tab to Folder Marker.

opayq opayq I was a regular customer and purchased folder marker pro second time last year with a promise for free upgrades and updates within 1 year. Within a year they released a new version and I was asked to be paid for the upgrade. They did not honor their promise. Fantastic software but bad experience with customer service. Other than that I would recommend the software.

Danny Not a pretty experience with the product service! Small half a year ago I bought this Folder Marker Pro. A few weeks ago a new version released, got through email a discount coupon of 55% applicable at least 5 days. I thought for me a free upgrade, because a year has not yet expired. But upgrade did not work! I go to customer service about this problem, I got after 3 days to hear that that license free upgrade for value of 1 year after purchase is not for me. In the meantime my discount coupon 55% expired. I email back to upgrade discount coupon 55%. What I got back?: a discount coupon of 30%! Well, I am really not agree!!!

Sorry, but I experience that just like dirty zone that here (Besides not clearly stated) free upgrade within 6 months of purchase, and at direct purchase on their website: 12 months after the purchase!

Bruno Verschraegen Unfortunately some companies/people look at selling only from the provider side, and limit themselves to push the product out and get the money in - full stop - unable to be emphatic and look at the process from the user/client side.

Other companies/people will use their own rules as guidelines from which they will deviate to the benefit of the user if circumstances so suggest (like in Danny's case)

From the experiences described by opayq and especially Danny, it would seem that ArcticLine wants to confine itself to being in the first category - but let's give the benefit of the doubt and see if someone from the vendor comes back to show their good intentions.

I was tempted by this deal but will wait to see further comments.

Roman, ArcticLine Thank you everyone for comments. Let me explain the situation with updates.

Starting from version 4.0 we _have changed_ our upgrade policy. For version 2.x and 3.x we have offered free _MINOR_ upgades and no time limits. It means if you bought license for version 3.0, you have free upgrade to version 3.1, 3.2, etc. But upgrade to version 4.x is paid.

Starting from version 4.x we offer free upgrades for 1 year, no matter is it minor upgrade or major upgrade. F.ex. if you buy Folder Marker now and tomorrow we release version 5.0, you will get free upgrade, no matter it is major upgrade, because you have 1 year of free upgrades.

It both cases (for 2.x, 3.x, 4.x buyers) license for bougth version is LIFETIME. It means you can use the old version as long as you wish. You can always download old version from here: http://www.foldermarker.com/old/. The update it is an OPTION, not a must.

***

After we changed our upgrade policy we did:
1) Put the information about policy change to ReadMe file you see when you install the software.
2) Changed information about upgrade policy in our website (so now you see the letest version).
3) Gave free upgrade for those who bought Folder Marker 3.x during last 6 months before policy change, no matter we have the right do NOT do this according to our own upgrade policy.
4) Offered time-limited 55% discount for all our other clients
5) Still continue to offer option to order new version with 25-30% discount for those, who ask about upgrade our support service.

***

opayq opayq, I can't find your order by your email, but belive you've ordered version 3.x with the old upgrade policy and before September 17th, 2012. This is why you have not received free upgrade as a gift. We will continue to offer Folder Marker on ButsDuJour, so you can subscribe, continue use the old version and be notified about new offers in the future. If 40% discount is not enought, someday we may offer biger ;)

opayq opayq Dear Roman, I am sorry but with all due respect, most would customers and all major software vendors regard 3.0 to 3.1, 3.2 etc as updates and NOT MINOR UPGRADE. Upgrade does mean 4 5 etc. Even in your website it said upgrade and never mentioned minor-upgrade. The reason you don't find me in your database is I used one of my alternative email address.

Roman, ArcticLine opayq opayq,
Even in your website it said upgrade and never mentioned minor-upgrade.
This is because now you see NEW version of update policy. When you bought, there was an OLD version, wher was written "Free upgrades to 3.x versions. We plan to continually improve Folder Marker. Buying the program now will ensure you get all future updates of it to versions 3.x free of charge."

Can't understand why companies either bury or just hide this information
»» Also, does NOT look good to change licensing mid-road & short-change existing customers! Really, this software is already over-expensive enough, shouldn't you error on the side of the customer? Furthermore, not honouring Danny's 55% coupon makes your company look really bad!!

Danny I will no longer buy with their software licensing policy as 1 year free update, and then still having to pay for a small updates! Harry Stadman Just purchased folder marker pro...I have been following this software for a while and it is one of the better solutions out there.

They are no worse or better as any other vendor since they all release a new paid version every year!

This version (4.2) finally works well with windows 8 and i am very happy.

Thanks for the discount.

Roman, ArcticLine Tortuga,

I looked but can't find the changelog page on your site
It is not on the site. It is in ReadMe file that is shown during installation + change log is shown every time the software informs about update BEFORE the user decided to start update procedure.
It may be cool to dublicate this information of the site, agre, but for now this feature is not realised. Good point for ToDo list. Thank you for the idea.

Also, does NOT look good to change licensing mid-road & short-change existing customers! Really,
The license was NOT changed mid-road. All obligations we take during purchase of 2.x and 3.x vesions, was observed. AFTER this we offered new conditions.
I understand not all may agree with them, maybe someone liked the old variant, but change is required.

Furthermore, not honouring Danny's 55% coupon makes your company look really bad!!
I value your opinion, but want to be honest with our customers. If we tell the offer has the deadline, it should be REAL deadline. Tomorrow we will not offer BitsDuJour offer, because today we told it is one day only.
I agree we may lost some sales already, but I still belive to be honest it is right.

Bruno Verschraegen Dear Roman, I appreciate your efforts to explain your policies and documentation and I have no doubt all is well-intended. Yet, two points I'd like to make...

1) Information - whether in a Read Me (not necessarily the best place as it usually comes without any formatting that helps draw the attention to the real important information) or in a website, instruction manual or email - should be written from the perspective of the reader and not only from the perspective of the writer. This means that important information should be 'tested' = submitted for reading to someone who does not know what the intention was. Not an easy task to get it right, but one should try. This is not a comment pointed specifically at you or ArcticLine but to any company - but I write this to you since you argument that everything is clearly stated (that often depends from which angle you look).

2) Second point. and this is specifically for "you"... When I referred to using policies/rules as guidelines from which one can deviate to the benefit of the user, I was referring to the fact that apparently you decided not to take into account the fact that Danny had sent a message to your service department to find out why he was not eligible for a free upgrade. Danny may have been "at fault" for not having read or understood well the policy, but for sure it would not have been a big effort (and certainly not being dishonest to other customers) if you had still granted the 55% discount. That is just sticking by the rule because of the rule, not because of the purpose... Other vendors here on BdJ have certainly shown much more leniency and understanding.

Once again, I am sure it is all well-intended and that the software is great, and I do not want to discredit any of that - but you may want to reconsider what customer service really means. We organise evens and if we would only stick by he rules and forget what the rules try to achieve, then we'd be straightjacketing the participants to the events/meetings we organise and would have many people not feeling as happy about arrangements as they could be and are entitled to... Of course, no-one is perfect - and I certainly am not. But once again, we should try and I feel you still have a chance of setting the record straight with Danny (or other people in his case).

With all due regards
Bruno

opayq opayq A major part of the confusion is due to ArcticLine's interpretation of Updates and Upgrades sharply differing from the main stream concept of the same.

They were also using very ambiguous wordings which has mislead customers. They should not wholly blame the customer for the misinterpretation. Upgrade should mean just a straight forward Upgrade! Why complicate?

I hope they recognise this and remedy the disappointed customers with real upgrades as a GOOD WILL gesture. That would retain their loyal / honest customers. It's beyond me - how could anyone afford to loose customer loyalty?!! Absolutely agree with Bruno Verschraegen. I hope Roman sees through it. Even if he doesn't, I have my sincere regards for him and wish him the best.

Danny There is a difference between update and upgrade term! ' Update ' is side effect and remove bugs in the current version! ' Upgrade ' is the current version (full) upgrading to a new version! Updates should always be included with the current version to the major upgrade! Doenerij I do not understand why that are difficult of this vendor!!!

opayq opayq Bless you Roman! :). I second Danny on that. All updates from for e.g. 4.0, 4.1, 4.2...to 4.9999 should be free irrespective of time - 1 year or more! Upgrades are usually free for customers who purchased the software within a year, as its generally seen as fair. After one year loyal customers usually get a discounted price. In essence it should be UPGRADES free if released within 1st year. Hope it makes sense. Please change it to UPGRADES free up to 1 year from date of purchase.

H. H. Hallo, @ author
as a registered user of foldermarker pro (bought at regular price)
I´m very disappointed, that a feature which was told to be on the todo list since more than 2 years still seems not to be implemented (or am I´m wrong?)
2 years ago the question regarding an info-tipp poppup (see my older post at the Folder marker pro - everyday Icon bündle) was answered with the comment, that it will be on the todo list, - but when foldermarker was offered again in 08/2011 it still was an unchanged version - and my question if the suggestion (told to be on the todo-list) could be exspected to be implemented at least ntext time simply stayed unanswered

Update: 4.2 to 4.9 free of charge.Small changes in software like improvements or bug fixes.

upgrade from 4 to 5 paid upgrade.New program, with new interface or new features.

Sorry opayq opayq, but most vendors only have 1 year free updates. So in this respect Folder marker pro isn't any different then any other vendor.

Discounted prices mostly apply to upgrades, from 4 to 5 so to speak.

Harry Stadman I think the definition of minor vs major upgrade is a bit different in the vendors eyes.

If he calls 4.2 to 4.3 a major upgrade then this is not true, that is a minor update and should be free. Going from 4.1 to 5 within a year should also be free!
Is 5 comming out after the 1 year free updates/upgrades you can buy it at a 55% discount.

Still seems fair and normal to me, looking at all the other vendors.

Lu Pus FolderIco costs per default 10 dollars and was just yesterday a free giveaway and was so some months ago too.
It offers iconsets too, and some more free sets on the website... but it can't make folders lighter or darker.

And there's freeware too that colors Windows folders. But that's very basic. Just coloring.

So it depends what you want. Just coloring? Then take freeware.
Coloring and choosing from iconsets? FolderIco
From this video here Folder Maker offers additional folders lighter and darker in color. But honestly... the price... even reduced it's ridiculous for what simple things it does and what it is.

Just my thoughts.

zhxiang xie Folder marker pro is much more expensive than Folderico. And what is the different? I spend some time to compare the Folderico and Folder marker pro.
1. Folder marker pro can make folder color lighter or darker. (This is not a significant difference.)
2. Folder maker pro can change folder icon without change the last update date of the folder.
3. Folder maker pro allow me to backup/restore the setting of folder icons.

And more information in the version compare page :
for example the distributable mode and command line features.

The different functions above and the 40% discount is acceptable for me. :)

Harry Stadman There is one other major difference:

folder ico can't change network based icons, Folder marker pro can change those as well!

So, if you need network icons and custom icons then folder marker pro is the better option.

I agree that the price is a bit steep for such a simple program...It would be nice if we could get free upgrades for the price of Folder marker pro.

Harry Stadman You can colour the folders or you can use icons for the folders, you can use custom icons and select them via Folder marker pro very easally. Here you can see the different versions and what the differences are. http://foldermarker.com/c...rsions.php Just try the demo/evaluation version and find out for yourself. If you don't like it, you can easally uninstall the software. This is also a major feature: Work in distributable mode by default It allows you to change the icon by means of Folder Marker and then move the folder on other PC or even record it on the CD. The folder will be moved or copied with all changes applied to the icon. Also icon changes will remain after re-installation of Windows or if somebody connects to your PC via LAN. Folderico lacks this feature and some others.

Nick Kobe Roman, thank you very much for your reply and the information regarding volume discounting. Though the volume pricing is better this is a case where something is either good enough or it isn't. Frankly, the pricing is still expensive based on the nature of this software and what it does. Should you ever decide to change your licensing to "user" base versus the current "computer" base I'd be interested (depending on the price). I have several file and folder management software programs and though I am not fully satisfied with any of them I have one that works well enough for me at a fraction of the $112.00 and the licensing is on a "user" basis. I'm always open to change, but not at this price. I wish you the best as I am sure there are those that feel differently then I do about the licensing.

Folder Marker is orienter on work with Windows Explorer and this is why it should work well with any file managers that uses Windows Explorer core to display folder icons. F.ex. Folder Marker works well with Total Commander

Folder Marker Pro has ads module build-in it is true, but we are trying to do our ads not very annoying; this is why we do special offers not often than once per month (2 times per month in very rare cases). It means if you use “Don’t show me this offer again I am not interested” checkbox, you are forced to use the checkbox once per month. But you are still informed about future offers, which may be interesting to you.

Folder Marker Pro has ads module build-in it is true, but we are trying to do our ads not very annoying. This is how it works:
1) In any case the ad is shown not more than ONCE a day.
2) We do special offers not often than once per month (2 times per month in very rare cases).
3) We disturb paid users even rarely.
4) When you see the ad, you can check “Don’t show me this offer again I am not interested” checkbox. See http://my.jetscreenshot.c...-hjfi-17kb. Doing this, Folder Marker will not disturb you anymore with the current offer you see, but when new offer comes, you will see it.
5) There are way to turn-off the ads AT ALL. If you are interested to do this, please write to our support service, they will provide you with instructions. It may sounds good, but it also means you are not informed about 30%, 50%, 70% discounts or even 100%-free giveaways we plan to provide from time-to-time to our users. Some of them are unique and we don’t inform about them by email or Facebook/Twitter post.

FileMarker.NET saves icons inside of the files. So, to restore all marked icons of the files after reinstallation, you need to install FileMarker.NET again and mark any file of the same type. After this you will see all mars for the same file type that you set before reinstallation. This is manual way how you can restore your icons.
Sorry to say, but for now there are no way to do this automatically, we don't have the same backup feature as Folder Marker has in the current version of FileMarker.NET, but we plan to add it in the future.

I've tried Folder Marker (trial) with xplorer2, but the modified folder icons don't show up. The properties dialog for the folder correctly show the modification, so I'm guessing something in xplorer2 is not compatible in some way. I've asked about it on the forum for that program.

Amit @Roman you said 'FileMarker.NET saves icons inside of the files'.
So this means filemarker.net saves icons in the files and this means it modifies the files themselves ?? Looks not a good way to just change the icons of files. Can you be a little more clear, and sorry to raise the issue here, but I had to know the answer before purchasing.

And is there a way to add own icon libraries directly inside filemarker and folder marker. And I assume folder marker pro has the option to save the icons inside the marked folders, to make icon changes of folders permanent. Thanks.

Roman, ArcticLine @Patricia Lange,
I've installed the latest Ultimate trial of xplorer2 and this is what I see:
http://my.jetscreenshot.c...bwys-153kb
Folder icons are customized, popup menu works well. The only problem is that customized folder icons doesn't sown momentally after icon change. You need to close the folder and open it again to see icon change.
You need to ask xplorer2 developers how to refresh icons. In Windows Explorer F5 is used for this case.

No, FileMarker.NET doesn't modify file. It saves icon "under file data". It is hard to explain without using technical words, and this way of work of the software is our know-how. So, you need to know that icons is saved with file (or near file) but file data is not modified.
It means your data is safe and you can copy file to other folder of your computer, it is usefull for work with customized files.

We don't have "Ads" inside of the software in usual understanding of this word. This is NOT like use free app from iOS or Android market, where are tons of banners and they appear in unpredictable way 10 times before you do what you want.
We inform, our users about special offers. As I wrote, if you use “Don’t show me this offer again I am not interested” checkbox, you see our offer once per month or rarely, and there a way to turn-off informing about offers at all.

Matt Hi Roman,

Thank you for answering in detail my question concerning 'adware pop-ups'.

I've tried to block the pop-up ads from appearing by setting up a firewall rule and prevent Folder Marker Pro from accessing the Internet. It doesn't work.

Does the ad module act independently of the Internet?

By the way... I've been a happy customer of yours and have used Folder Marker Pro for years. I think going to adware was a very bad move. I find myself purposely not changing a folder icon unless it's necessary just to avoid your 'pop-up ads'.

Type Excellent software! I've been using Folder Marker for years now and it's been such an asset for organising folder structures and projects.

The only downside is that it's simply a visual cue. For example, if you have a bunch of red, green and blue folders there's no way to actually order/group or sort them.
Folder Marker would *really* benefit from having some form of tagging system - possibly storing tags within the desktop.ini (when it creates the folder icon) and linking that to a custom Explorer column handler so that you can sort the folders by colour/priority etc. Maybe something for version 5? :)

Also, if you like colouring/customising folders, also check out their FileMarker.NET.
It's exactly like Folder Marker - but for marking files and documents!

Ela S. Very productive software, using it for years now for fast workflow within the Win Explorer.

I have compared various similar programs, but FolderMarker just offers the easiest way to mark rsp change icons of any folder through the right click context menu.

Also to mention that there is also a similar FileMarker program available for changing the icons of files (eg for priorities).

And: Thanks to Type, tagging would be another great option.

Mark Johnson I notice this software has improved quite a bit over the past year or so, and is very nice.

I think what is requested by 'Type' might be not very easily doable. Since it is Windows Explorer, Xplorer2, Directory Opus, or whatever file manage you use that is actually sorting the folders, any tagging system would have to be recognized by those programs to allow for sorting by tagging. I don't think there is an API call exposed for how to sort folders/files that allows modification.

But...
There are available columns like 'Description', 'Label', 'Group' and a few others that are recognized by file managers but are not normally shown. It should be possible to use one of these columns to store Folder Marker information, and then the file manager could use the column to sort by. That's the easiest way I know for making this work.

Thanks,
Mark.

Edward Smith I have serious concerns about dealing with this company.

I purchased this program 8/31/2012. On 10/6/2014 I was sent a notice that I could purchase 60 additional icons for folder customization for $9.95 instead of $19.95.

I was going to do this but when I ran Folder Marker it told me there was an update available so I installed the update. I did not realize I had to pay for the update (and the new package) so I reinstalled 3.2, but to my surprise, my key code for version 3 was no longer valid. I wrote to the company three times asking them why my key no longer work on 3.2 since I paid for that version.

I paid for that version the key should always work on that version, should it not?

Here we are six months later and I am still waiting for customer service to answer any one of my three emails. My version 3 still will not work.

I liked the program, but I do not appreciate their complete lack of customer service. There is no way I would trust buying from them again.

Edward Smith @ Roman ArcticLine - I appreciate your response.

I do not want to debate here, this is not the place for that, but since I never received a reply, I do not see how it was resolved. I wrote directly to you all three times at beeicons (since that is where the icon package offer came from) but received nothing in return.

If you sent a "new" key did you notice it was never activated? When I sent the second and third emails instead of assuming this was resolved, maybe someone should have looked to see if the new key was ever activated?

I will write to support and see if we can get version 3.2 to work again. I will post the results here. I think people have a right to know if the company they are about to buying from is treating their current customers well. It is this ability to hold vendors accountable that has encouraged me to buy well over 100 programs from Bits.

My understanding from old replies is that I can upgrade for a 55% discount, is that correct?

I understand you may be unsatisfied, but is this not honest to call the situation "complete lack of customer service"? We have answered you, we have tried to make you another offer. But you declined it. It is your choice.
We love our clients and want to have them satisfied, but it’s impossible to make happy everyone. :(

In any case it is always better to write personally, say something positive, explain the situation, tell what you want and ask for a favor. This causes generate wish to help. Writing negative comments every time we are doing promo on BitsDuJour, causes opposite desire in my heart. I am just a human and I don’t like when somebody pushes at me.

>> I wrote directly to you all three times at beeicons (since that is where the icon package offer came from) but received nothing in return.
Ah. Understood.
It's much easied to get help, when you write to places that are read my our staff :) Beeicons emails are owerspammed, so we don't read them.
For support we have special part of our website: http://foldermarker.com/support/ It is mentioned as "Technical support" in the main menu of the site:
http://my.jetscreenshot.c...fdbw-102kb

>>If you sent a "new" key did you notice it was never activated?
No, we don't send new key every time user need to restore it. We send the same old key.

>>I think people have a right to know if the company they are about to buying from is treating their current customers well.
100% agree!

>>My understanding from old replies is that I can upgrade for a 55% discount, is that correct?
No, we offer smaller upgrade discounts to our customer. Discount depends on the edition of the software you heve: Home or Pro.

Danny @Roman, ArcticLine,

Sorry, but I also got but every time a blunt answers! I do not like, as a full customer get maximum upgrade discount, if I should respond to certain very short time in by you and pay, to still increase the upgrade price!

Edward Smith @ Roman, I will wait for a response from support (I just wrote to them). However, that was my original problem is that my key is no longer valid. Sending me the old key will not help. I have the key. It no longer works for the version for which it was intended.

I will wait to see how support responds.

Roman, ArcticLine @Edward, if you have the key and would like to restore your purchase, you need to download appropriate version from http://www.FolderMarker.com/old (v 3.2 in your case) and use your key.

If you want to upgrade to the latest version, todays 40%-off is a good deal, cause standard upgrade discount we offer without any promos it's 30% for Pro version and 25% for Home.

Edward Smith I explained is already??

I did reinstall version 3.2 and tried my 3.2 license key. It did not work. My original email (which someone did read because you opened a ticket for it read):

"I was going to do this (purchase the icon pack for $9.95), but when I ran Folder Marker it told me there was an update, so I installed the update. I did not realize I had to pay for the update so I reinstalled 3.2, but now my key code will no longer work. Why will my key no longer work on 3.2? I already paid for that version the key should always work on that version should it not?"

So I am trying to use version 3.2 and a version 3.2 code, and it tells me the code is invalid.

Rich User Interesting looking product. I have two questions before I purchase:
1. The "Fine Print" states "Each license allows installation on 1 computer." My computer runs VMWare with about 10 virtual machines I use regularly. Does this count as 1 computer (because it is one physical computer) or 10 because of the number of Operating Systems installed?

2. I tried testing your trial and found some unexpected results under different file managers. My tests were on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with the latest released version of each file manager.
- Under Windows Explorer your software worked perfectly.
- Under Total Command your software worked perfectly.
- Under Directory Opus I was able to customize a folder and have the change display immediately; HOWEVER, when I tried to reset my folder back to default, I had to manually refresh Directory Opus for the change to take affect
- Under xplorer2 and XYplorer your program did not seem to work at all. Folder changes set in Windows Explorer did not show in these file managers. Right clicking on a folder in these file managers DOES bring up your "Mark Folder" menu item but anything I select is then ignored.
My question: which file managers does Folder Marker Pro support?

John Miesionczek @Edward Smith
I too had this problem and I got mine to work. You have to delete all traces of FMP and clear your cookies and anything else related to FMP. Then reboot your machine. Then make sure you have the version of FMP when you originally purchased it and then install it (VERSION 3.2 FOR YOUR INSTALLATION). Make sure you delete all the files pertaining to FMP and get VER. 3.2 and install and open FMP and then exit and restart FMP and enter your code for VERSION 3.2 ONLY. It should work now.

Enjoy

Amit 1) I would agree with the question raised by rich user that is the license of softwares or this software here, altered by usage on virtual machines ? because a license should be applicable to be used on 1 physical computer and any virtual machines inside that physical computer are not main machines themselves. so looking forward to a response by developer or guidance by fellow bitsdujourers on this licensing question.

2) I would second on the tagging function. please add it. and like tags added to the desktop.ini as suggested before and a central place (or database that can be saved or exported) to keep the tags database the same and backupable in case of operatingsystem reinstalls.

>>My computer runs VMWare with about 10 virtual machines I use regularly. Does this count as 1 computer (because it is one physical computer) or 10 because of the number of Operating Systems installed?
The licenses sold per computer and user basis. If you have one computer with 10 OSs installed, and you are the only person, who work on it, you need 1 license. If you have 2 users on this computer, who need to work with Folder Marker, you need to buy 2 licenses.

>>My question: which file managers does Folder Marker Pro support?
Folder Marker is created for Windows Explorer. So "offically" we support only it. But usually it works well in other file managers, if they support Windows API for its work.
If I remember right, to see change in xplorer2, you need to close the folder and open it again to see the changes. I.e. move to the parent folder anf the return to yours. But I am not sure...

Rich User Roman: Thank you for your reply and for clearing up the question about licensing when a virtual machine is involved. I held off on purchasing until I received your reply. Unfortunately your reply came over 8 hours after I posted my question so I missed out on the deal.
I will look for your software the next time it comes around at BitsDuJour.

Retired Engineer All your marker folders display an object in front of a half-opened folder. Do I have to create the object-in-front-of-folder convention from scratch (by hand)? OR do you supply a make-standard-folder tool which will take any image as input, and then output a folder-marker-compliant half-opened-folder+object-image in your standard format?

Ela S. Great software: Using both Foldermarker and Filemarker for years now - fastest way to change or restore icons, using icons for optical tagging, and keep those changes eg after reinstallation of Windows.

Would wish that import of own icons would be more easier, eg via right click on a ico-file and importing to Foldermarker (creating an own icl or importing icons piece by piece is very laborious).

Now have to upgrade to Windows 10 - will they work on Win 10 systems as well???

Roman, ArcticLine @Retired Engineer, Folder Marker don't generate icons. It has set of different predefined icons inside of it. Plus, you can add your own icons, that you can create by yourself or find in Google.

Is Folder Marker Pro compatible with standard icon format(s)?

S User Trial in use since this morning. Handy, but ...(!)

Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 12 months

Really? Must be lifetime for this price, even with the 50% off now. The normal price is absolutely crazy. There are mass programs to use *very* more features, very frequent updates (sometimes several times a week) and lifetime on all your computers for less money. Price and conditions are absolute deal-breaking for this niche tool. Only if liftetime and on all your owned machines, this offer is recommended for those who want to color their folders.

Other thing: all my file managers have this function (as a little, little, little part of thousand functions) already aboard. Sometimes changlogs from north to south. A few of them I buy for the normal price of FolderMarker and they are using lifetime on all owned computers. Can you imagine that? This is too crazy for words I fear. My 2 cent.

S User Apart from the foregoing, FolderIco and Dr.Folder (Lifetime) offer their additional icons for free. Some additional folders in FolderMarker cost a $ 20 each (!!). Per Unit. Why does FolderMarker think so much money can be squeezed from buyers? Why do programs that work on a daily basis cost less? Look for example at the changelogs (https://www.xyplorer.com/...um.php?f=1)
and XYplorer offers on BDJ, which features this feature, in addition to 10,000 (thousands of) other features (Lifetime-on every computer you Own + portable).

The price of FolderMarker + additional icons = as a Directory Opus Pro or omitted MS Office base. Things to think about. It's really crazy for words. Changelog is so sad that it's a shame. Earn money, don't work. A shamefull policy. No respect at all.

Guy Good @S User

I purchased XYplorer Lifetime several years ago. It has so many features, I can't begin to utilize many of them. I have physical disabilities which make retaining
information hard, so it is not a knock on the author in any way.

I did not realize XYplorer has the capability to create colored folder icons. Are the colored folder icons only displayed while using XYplorer or would they show while using standard Windows Explorer as well? Can you post a hint where I could being reading about that feature in the Help if it can work both places?

I will not clutter the thread after any reply, so as not to go off-topic. Thanks for mentioning the option to use what I already purchased.

H. H. @vendor
do you plan to implement the following features?
1. more colors (free choosable from windows system colors)?
2. ability to comment a folder (like freeware rainbow folders allows)?
3. tag-feature with user-defined tags similiar to filemarker.net, but - if possible - transferrable and not only stored in the folder markers database?

thank you for responding in advance
