Wood Miles Aside from the pricing issues, Font Creator is a great piece of software. As a many year veteran of Fontographer, Font Creator is an easy to use program that creates robust TrueType and OpenType files. Over the past year I have found myself using it more and more - today I use it far more than I use Fontographer. It gets the job done without a lot of fuss and bother. At $39.00 it is a bargain.

Erwin Denissen They are two different products. Scanahand is fast, easy, and powerful but also limited. FontCreator is more complex and advanced as it allows you to make changes to individual characters, numerous typographic settings, and a lot more. To speed up the creation of a new font, we know several font designers generate the initial font with Scanahand, and then further improve it with FontCreator. I suggest you give both a try so see which one suits your needs.

Erwin Denissen Thanks you for letting us know. We might reconsider next year, but for now you can buy the home edition for a nice discount and then buy the upgrade to the professional edition for an additional $125. This way the discount is 18%.

Erwin Denissen Not directly within FontCreator, but you can add OpenType layout features with either VOLT (from Microsoft) or OpenType Compiler (from Rogier van Dalen). More information about this topic can be found on our forums:

Petr I was looking at Scanahand, here at BitsDuJour, then see that this deal (FontCreator Home edition) can also create fonts from my handwriting, according to your web site.

Can you please describe the differences between Scanahand and FontCreator for the purpose of creating a Font from my handwriting? Please also provide details on creating Bold, Italics... versions of fonts with my handwriting. Thank you.

Erwin Denissen Scanahand requires you to complete a template which then gets converted into a font. FontCreator allows you to create and edit fonts with way more tools.
