Summitsoft Corporation James, yes commercial use includes ebooks and images created using the fonts. You just cannot repackage and/or resell the fonts themselves.

Kimmo, the fonts support Western European characters and I am pretty sure there are umlauts as well.

Generally yes.

Anyway you can use the fonts and generate an image on your computer and then embed the image in the HTML page.

Moreover, now you can use CSS with @font-face, yo embed base64 data, fonts included, see:

Ralph Bressler The fonts are very nice and the offer very generous.

Just as good as the fonts is the information Luis provided. Things change so quickly in web design that I sometimes ignore new developments. I tried the suggestion in the article and it works. Now if only all browsers and design people could decide on one standard!

lemonade soda There is a huge amount of duplication in the font file... Essentially 12 fonts at different weights or italic-stretch or small differences in embellishments. And the fonts that are condensed or expanded are essentially machine-stretched rather than handcrafted. So many don't quite work for print-quality material. However, they are GREAT for quick mock-ups and for website integration. So very useful!

However, to the author, I would recommend you create a PDF stylesheet with a "font map". Trawling through hundreds of similar font files adds no value to the end consumer. You should create a font map... showing the various families, and their variations, so that the user can quickly find something appropriate. Also you should do a character map of the font file. Saying "I think it includes umlauts" is terrible! It should be known, it should be shown!

Ralph Bressler I agree with lemonade soda! Just because you are offering this ABSOLUTELY FREE doesn't mean you shouldn't do even more work for us. In fact, I think you should DOUBLE the number of fonts immediately. Also, include a fancy font viewer since there aren't at least twenty available as freeware! GET BUSY!

VLM Jason Hogrefe - I have a suggestion, or a request, or maybe a prayer. :) There is a problem in the world of fonts. (Well, several problems, but I'm thinking of just one right now. :)

This problem is called "fractions". Most fonts provide 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. Some fonts even provide eighths. But how does one quickly and easily create ANY fraction, like 23/127, and have it come out LOOKING like fraction ... AND do this on the fly, as needed?

I would pay (to a point :) for such a solution right now!!!

Little Bear Thank you for this wonderful pack of fonts! Depending on your computers speed / specs I found a very easy way to install all of the fonts in one go without the need for a font manager on Windows 7.

I right clicked on my desktop and created a new folder. Then I took my favorite archive utility and extracted all of the file inside the zip archive into the folder.

Later a folder called Font Pack Pro was created inside the new folder. So I double clicked the Font Pack Pro folder , pressed Control A, Right clicked on one of them that was selected and selected Install. It installed all the fonts in one go in less then 20 seconds.

Hope people find this helpful on PC.

VLM Thank you Jason. I'm not an InDesign user, so I looked at the first link. Unfortunately, the article ends with "NOTE: Techniques for improving the look of fractions cannot be applied to text on the web". Sigh.

The sidebar is interesting, I've tried that approach before but I've never figured out how to find the fraction bar. Is there some fairly standard key assignment, or is it all over the keyboard, as it were?

Your suggestion of a "great free font previewer and installer" (AMP) prompted me to ask about a need I have always felt but never could fulfill (and which is hinted at in the umlaut question): How can one easily see which 'special characters' a font has, or hasn't, short of displaying it all (always a deal-breaker for needed characters like "ç" or "é")? Is there some viewer which can group fonts by 'similarity' (using AI-like features, because that's always partially subjective)? Can you suggest a good tutorial on when and how best to install (or not) fonts, the best combination of installed & not fonts to avoid OS bloat, and the like? Any suggestions would be appreciated, and perhaps others here would like to read them too!

002F

If you are just using Word or another program that allows you to Insert a Symbol or special character:

1. Click where you want to insert the special character.
2. On the Insert menu, click Symbol, and then click the Special Characters tab.
3. Double-click the character that you want to insert, or enter the "Character code" (002F).
4. Click Close.

Summitsoft Corporation Alexander, open the system Character Map by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Character Map. In Character Map, click the Font list, and then click the font you want to view/use.

All the fonts in FontPack Pro, and other Summitsoft font collections include the same characters, so if one font has the character(s) you are looking for, then the rest will too.

There is not a single good way to manage fonts, it pretty much depends on what you need them for. If your system can handle it (you own a new computer with over 250GB hard drive and 4GB RAM or better) your computer can probably handle a couple thousand fonts installed. The best way to manage your fonts is to only install the ones you like and think you will use. Most of our font customers only find a few dozen fonts that they really like or will use in any one of our collections, so they tend to only install those fonts. If you like them all, then there are some font management applications that allow you to "Activate" fonts, rather than Install them. Activating fonts generally means that the fonts will be installed temporarily until your next reboot. The Font Viewer I recommended in an earlier post allows for temporary installation:

Not the fastest way, but reasonably painless, was to put into the sample window my Czech accented characters (copied from an editor that works with them, or use Word):

Putting those on the first line, I went down the list of our free fonts, plus the additional 40 (thanks, Summitsoft!) line by line, looking for fonts that showed anything on that line.
Of the 1096, only 12 fonts can do them, all only in the basic font. Sttill, better than nothing, and it did not take that long. Hope this helps.

I don't know what you mean with 'AI like' , but as the characters you mention are in a fixed block, this little tool shows you which of your fonts cover that block (installed or not).

Bob Hirschfeld What I do for fractions, or even sub numbers is to change the font size for the number to the smallest possible size. That works better than using the HTML sub command because then the next line of text gets moved down slightly and looks crappy. By just changing the font size, the number still fits perfectly on its line of text.

Meanwhile, thank you very much Jason, for your attention and assistance to all these user comments. I've checked out the 40 free fonts you listed above, and many of them are really terrific. I'll be using them frequently.

However, @ Emil Kucera said that he examined the FontPackPro fonts, and "Of the 1096, only 12 fonts can do Czech accented characters, all only in the basic font" -- so, apparently, "All the fonts in FontPack Pro, and other Summitsoft font collections include the same characters, so if one font has the character(s) you are looking for, then the rest will too": In this case, a few DO have the ones he was looking for, but most didn't.

His suggestion ("to put into the sample window [the sought] accented characters [and, p]utting them on the first line, [go] down the list of (...) fonts, line by line, looking for fonts that showed anything on that line") was exactly what I tried to do around 15 years ago, but this involves having to do that, for ALL the fonts in one's 'library' every time, which is too time-consuming; what I meant to find was some 'font viewer' which might select those which have a specific character, among the whole lot... Apparently, there is no such thing!

@ Luc Laroy's suggestion of Babelmap is appreciated, but doesn't help with what I was looking for in that query: By "some viewer which can group fonts by 'similarity' (using AI-like features, because that's always partially subjective)" I meant one which could process a 'font library' and group the fonts into 'similar groups' by 'appearance', and not just by 'measurement features'... And apparently, there is no such thing either!

The problem is indicated when you say "(...) then click the font you want to view/use": My difficulty is exactly in narrowing down the possibilities of 'fonts I might want to use in a given project' to a manageable selection, preferably in an automated way which, again, apparently doesn't exist. Oh well...
