Migrating a database is never anybody's idea of fun. For one thing, it usually needs to be done when no one else would have need of the database -- namely, over a weekend or in the middle of the night. Then there's the fear and anxiety that grips you as dawn comes to a new day and users start using your database which, hopefully, has settled into its new home with no bugs, glitches, or loss of data.

Full Convert Enterprise is a warm, comfy security blanket for anyone who needs to migrate a database. With Full Convert Enterprise, you'll be able to effortlessly migrate database tables complete with all of your data, create indexes, foreign keys, and so much more. Providing the ability to migrate databases of unlimited size, it'll be like you've unleashed a panther. A panther that converts TENS OF THOUSANDS of records per second!

If you need to schedule recurring conversions, Full Convert Enterprise has you covered with a convenient conversion scheduler that lets you conduct migrations on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis. There's support for customization, an integrated database explorer, character set conversion, global datatype translation rules, even the ability to transform data on the fly using SQL expressions. You can cancel out of any conversion at any time and all errors are logged for your review.

New to database migration? Just use Full Convert Enterprise's Project Settings Wizard to set up connections and choose tables for conversion, then save your configuration for one-click repeated use. Once you've gotten the hang of it, you can switch to the command-line interface and let your fingers fly!

D T Does this product work natively with databases or through a driver interface such as ODBC, OLE, JDBC, etc?

Does it support Sybase databases (ASA, ASE)?

If it has native support, how does it deal with version compatibility (e.g. Oracle 9/10/11)?

Thanks in advance.

Damir Bulic This product works natively with databases - and it supports ODBC as one of the supported engines for cases when you have a database not on the list of 17 supported databases.
Sybase is not supported natively, but you should have no problems connecting to it via ODBC. However, ODBC is for now supported as source, but not as target for conversion.
Regarding version compatibility, Full Convert detects database version and auto-adapts to it, changing conversion algorithm according to your database and configuration capabilities to get the maximum speed.

Ger Kurvers Will it convert formatted memo fields from a paradox database into a mysql database and with keeping the formatting?

Damir Bulic It will convert formatted memo fields, but will not keep the formatting. As MySQL doesn't have a formatted memo type, we have to convert to closest native type, and that's (long) text.
Even if we converted it to some format which preserves formatting info, like RTF or HTML, you would then need to change your application to deal with new content format, which would probably cause more problems than losing formatting for most users.

Ger Kurvers Hello Demir,

Thanks for your clear answer. But for some users, like we and our customers, formatting is essential. Would your company consider a future enhancement to your product and provide a setting which let the user choose wether to convert as plain text, RTF or HTML?

Thanks in advance

Damir Bulic Well,
in the last two years there have been exactly two requests for this, yours, and another one in 2008. So it's hard to justify development costs to implement it with such a low demand. We will put it on list of wanted features, but I don't promise anything.

Ger Kurvers Fair enough! (How many copies should I buy saturday here to get a promise :-) ?

D T bon mot Ger!

But it raises the obligatory question of how does a single license work. Can the program be installed on two or more PCs if all of those PCs are only used by one person, and never simultaneously?

And Damir, thanks for the straightforward answer earlier.

Regards,

Damir Bulic Full Convert is licensed per named user. This means, if you will be the only person using it, you can install it on multiple machines. And of course, when someone else needs to work with Full Convert, you need a new license (or, even better, ten licenses)...

fran harter Hi,

Can this application convert Filemaker Pro V6 and V7 databases to a format like:

MS Access?

Or SQL?

Thanks in advance.

Damir Bulic Hi Fran,
FileMaker is not supported for now. However, more and more people are requesting support for it, so we will probably add it to list of source engines soon. You can send some of your FileMaker files to support at our domain and we will take a look.

TAPTRONIC Can this product be automated? (i.e. is there a scripting language that I can automate the conversion process from Visual Basic or some other language?)

Damir Bulic Full Convert has a rich command-line interface and a scheduler to run it on a recurring basis. However, there is no scripting language.

Steven Avery Hi,

I understand that license cost goes like this:

"To renew upgrade license for the next 12 months, price is $119 per license."

So please explain, with this special

a) When is upgrade necessary to be current ? Ie. the First $119 upgrade begins when ?

b) Does the program lose functionality if the license is expired, or do you simply lose the extra features of new updates.

c) Does this special qualify for any upgrade period. E.g. if you add Filemaker in May, does this license qualify for that upgrade, or only if we have done the $119.

(b) is the critical question.

Thanks.

Shalom,
Steven Avery

Damir Bulic a) After 12 months, if you still want to upgrade, you will pay $119 and be able to download for 12 more months which ever version is current.
b) App never loses functionality. What you installed will work forever. However, keep your downloaded installer - if your upgrade license expires, you won't be able to download from our site anymore as we don't keep old versions.
c) If you purchase now for just 10% of the standard price, we still give you standard 12 months of free upgrades, starting with the purchase date. All further renewals afterwards go with standard pricing, of course.
