anthonyraynor? I downloaded the home version from giveawayoftheday.com a few weeks ago.  It works very well with the ability to backup selected files or a preconfigured most likely files for backup situation.  Overall it has been a positive experience.  One thing to notice is that it appears to backup in a way that can be ready by windows explorer and not require the program to be installed if something happens to the program or the installed computer.  This may sound like a small item, but if your computer is stolen for example, you can read the files on another computer without timeline being installed. As with any option try it before you buy it.  I have one computer bakcing up to an external drive with it while the netbook can map to a folder on my windows home server for backup, both without difficulty.

Keith Norton I have also been having a positive experience with Genie Timeline Home. The Professional edition offered here has encryption and scheduling options that Home lacks. I'm not sure those extra features are important to me, but Professional also can limit the drive space taken up by backups. My guess is that I am going to have to eventually do some housekeeping to delete older backups if I stick with the Home version. Professional can take care of that by itself.

anthonyraynor? Debating about purchasing the pro version as I have the home version from the giveawayoftheday offering?  I have Acronis True Image, but just really never liked it.  I already use Windows Home Server so most of these products aren't really necessary, but I use them as you can't have too many backups.   I am really interested in StorageCraft's ShadowProtect and CMS BounceBack Ultimate and don't want to keep spending money on software I won't use.  A simpler offering, but one that I really enjoy using is Altaro's Oops! Backup.  If it comes around again I highly recommend that as a file backup solution with versioning, although it doesn't include whole system backup.

Frank Stephens I'm another person who received the Home version from GOTD.  I like the functionality better than Oops!Backup, but when I tried to recover a file, it failed.  Timeline appeared to have some kind of synchronization problem between what point-in-time it thought it had a copy of and what time it actually had a copy of.  Like others, I'll probably just use ShadowProtect and skip these partial and unreliable solutions.  Developers are forever adding features without focusing on reliability.

Genie Soft User Hello,
I strongly recommend to compare a couple of products before making a decision of this product.
So far I have used the older version from Genie Soft Backup Manager. This was a disappointing product. I do not know if it was due to complains but they changed the name of that product and removed the complained areas from the programming.

After installing their demo version, I was not clear if I should buy it. In the mean time and having heard my complains about their older product the company offered me a free update to their Timeline.

But actually they never send me the key. However I could not decide to buy it as the product did not reflect any clear and convincing advantage.

I bought the GoodSync from BitsDuJour Offer and am extremely satisfied. I see no advantage from Timeline.

Also many times, I simply use the Paragon Harddisk Manager to backup a complete partition which works like a charm. 40 Gigabyte gets copied in 15 minutes. So I use GoodSync if and only if I need to backup within less minutes.

hence compare first make up your mind with those possibilties and determine if there are any further advantages from Timeline. Only then take this offer but do not expect too much from the software of the HelpDesk.

John Heidi I tried Genie Timeline Pro, and will buy it soon, not sure what people are talking about here, but i tried all the above backup software, honestly, I just want a backup to run in the back ground, i dont want something like Acronis, soo complicated, Timeline worked perfectly with me and I Managed to restore all files without any problem, and even so its backed up files saved in native format so i can access them without even Genie Timeline, I think Genie Timeline is not understood, Its like Anti virus but for data backup, you should not compare it to acronis and its not sync software, you just sit it and forget it, I always wanted a solution like this, i Checked Apple Time Machine, its nice, but lack many features, what i just needed is just a simple backup solution works in the back ground, no user  interaction at all,  no performance downgrade, and Genie Does that all, Plus i love the Purge feature , which will auto delete files when ur backup drive is full, also love the compression and encryption I think Genie Timeline is a perfect solution for People who likes a software like antivirus to protected their data, i don't have time to manage and run software and worry about scheduling

Mark Hill I have a number of Genie Timeline Pro licenses and find that initial backups of drives take a considerable amount of time (20 hrs plus on external esata drives). Subsequent backups are relatively fast provided I setup system to continually update rather than lets say at the end off the day. As a software developer with a large number of constantly changing files my demands are far from typical. Never the less Timeline Pro should not be strugling as it is especially on high spec hardware.
More seriously I have also had synchronisation problems which are currently making me rethink my choice of backup.
I must admit that Timelines integration with Windows and low cpu demands makes me hope that the current problems can be resolved soon.
For those running Windows on Apple under Bootcamp the default settings are just wrong. You have to force it to not to try to backup up the Apple OS X partition.

Genie Challenger I had the earlier version 8 before they developed Genie Timeline Pro. The earlier version was crashing with large backup sizes like more than a gigabyte. After complaining, the company offered a free upgrade to Genie Timeline, which I have not received until today. Repeated request did not help. I did not use it anymore and purchased GoodSync. The GoodSync has many more functions and it is not inferior product like the Genie Series.

BitsDuJUser I agree - as a Genie Backup Professional User - all the negative reports of the products, the company and customer support.

I have tested their new product Genie Time line at the time when they launched.

After my dissatisfaction with them, I found GoodSync interesting, cheap, but not so fact.

I prefered to pay the same price, as the Genie Timeline Professional, $59.00 and have bought the Super Flexible File Syncroniser. This has many more features that Genie Timeline, when I compared to their product description

I strongly recommend users to buy Genie Timeline after thorough testing and installation before they purchase here.

Many purchase some products because it has suddenly appeared in the list of discounted ones.

You will realise that many features are required during operation and complex situations when you operate of configure it.

So; compare the Genie Timeline with Super Flexible File Syncroniser and identify what youits your requirements the best as they both will give you sufficient idea of good feature comparision.

There is really only 1 catch and that's that only 1 of the products is currently on a discounted promotion. A single user Super FFS is USD$59.90 and a Family pack covering up to 4 is USD$99.99

Personally I had never heard of Super FFS but I had heard of Genie.

For those interested in multiple license prices, I checked these out using the different promoted prices etc:

1x Genie=USD$29.97 but 1x SFFS=USD$59.90
2x Genie=USD$59.94($69.95 thru Genie) but 2x SFFS=USD$99.90*
5x Genie=USD$149.85($149.95) but 5xSFFS=USD$99.90

*: On the SFFS site if your want to buy multiple licenses it is cheaper to buy the Family Pack for $99.90 (which is a different ordering URL) than buy 2 thru 5 SFFS Single User prices which have no discount at all.

So the option is to try Genie and if I dont like it ask for a refund within 30 days.

The pictures of what Genie could do are really attractive.

When you actually sit down to make backups, and configure them again and again, you may realise that the easiest way is to have a very fast syncronisation program.

And thats not what Genie is about.

After using it for a while, I saw that all those photos did not make any sense any more.

All the more LESS SENSE it now makes after I began to use the Super FFS.

Comparing how damn slow the Genie was and how super fast is Super FFS, I can only laugh today.

Look at the features and enormous possibilities in Sper FFS. Now I would never ever dream to buy anything else, when it now came to backup.

I am not convincing here against Genie but describing the pattern of work and experience how it develops and matures, through ones own practice. New users may find it attractive discounts but thats exactly the reason why discounts are there. For such people.

If there was any other program better than Super FFS, I would not buy it because it is just much more than necwssary.

More than copying a directory you do not want to do. Now Genie gives such a cosmetic approach and games of configuration, heavily designed to make people crazy. All that is just not necessary.

Buy a new hard drive instead of Genie and just make a duplicate of it, entirely with partition wizard, that cost you nothing. Invest in a physical hard drive and thats much better. Thats the only thing to do or go beyond Super FFS. No Genie...

There is a big problem with the conversion rate, when clicking on the "Buy now"-button:

The final price in US$ is shown 12.04 USD. When selecting the price in EURO, it is shown 21.72 EUR instead.

The US$/EURO exchange rate shouldn't be like this.

Constantin Florea @Ely S - The price in USD is correctly discounted by 83%. The total of $12.04 which you see is because of the $2.09 VAT (I assume you are from an European country where vat applies). $9.95 + $2.09 = $12.04

The problem does indeed happen when switching the currency from USD to EUR. In this case the discount is smaller. We've contacted the vendor to help us fix the issue as soon as possible.

Even after fixing the issue for the EUR currency, if you are from an European country you will still have the VAT added to your purchase.

Ela S. Thanks for this big deal - purchased it in US$ already ;-) Genie Timeline is an excellent realtime backup program, which I have used in version 3 so far.

Once installed and set up, it makes its job in the background - silently and safely - without any further intervention needed. Once the PC crashes, the Genie Timeline backups can be easily accessed without any program needed.

Using Genie Timeline for ongoing backups on an external USB drive, Acronis True Image for full weekly backups, and Cobian for special backup tasks, this makes the user feeling really safe.

Kimmo Lahtinen I have used Genie Timeline for continues backup and it has indeed helped me, it is kind of automatic version system. As it stores many small files it would be better to have a simple external USB or eSATA drive as the target. I used a NAS unit with RAID 5 and it was not a good idea.

Kimmo Lahtinen I have used GTL many years and I have like it. I like specially that it saves different versions of a file. What I do not like is the pricing system. they do not have upgrade pricing. They have special offers quite often, but this is confusing system.

Even the older version 2014 works with Win10, so that is not a problem. I have not updated to 2015 as I have been hoping to see 2016 version, but nowhere is any hints about it.

Has anybody used this offer to buy 3 PC license, I wonder if there is extra discount?

Ela S. Just to confirm: Even version 2013 still works very well from Win 7 up to Win 10.

Using GTL for daily backups without any performance loss - excellent program running in the background you only notice when need be.

Using Acronis True Image for the big weekly backups - taking hours, don't like it any longer - but operating for years with *.tib-images, there is no real choice to shift to another program.

So running both programs on separate HDDs, and backups are no more big issue.

Rich OBrien I'm very happy to learn of Genie Timeline Pro and to buy it for 67% off. Once again, thank you BitsDuJour for helping me to find software I will be using from now on, all day, every day. I use Scheduled Backups within Casper by Future Systems Solutions to clone bootable copies of my Windows drive and my data drives about seven times a day, but that's still not frequent enough. I recently spent a lot of time collecting numbers and struggling to get every number into place using decimal tabs only to not be able to find that document which I was sure I had carefully saved. After learning of Syncovery from BitsDuJour, I've been using Syncovery to do real time backups which can run in the background using Windows Shadow Copy. But Syncovery takes more than 3 steps to set up and Syncovery must be set up to backup specific files or folders while it seems Genie Timeline Pro is intended to continuously keep every file on entire drives backed up in real time. I went looking for reviews and found that in 2014 Genie Timeline Pro was rated best of 11 continuous data backup programs http://continuous-data-ba...eview.html
This same review site also reviewed disk-imaging software. Casper, the best disk imaging software, is missing from their list of 10. Casper is the only one that clones a Windows image that I've been able to actually boot up. Their list of 10 disk imaging programs includes a number I've never seen before. Kimmo Lahtinen I use external USB drive to store the backup files, the program tolerates quite nicely even if the drive is not available.

GTL is mainly file by file backup program and very good at it.

Robert User Issue 1:
After reading through the available online help, and using the program, I do not see how to do one very important thing. Cancel totally a backup, as in remove the entire profile for that job. The program only allows one job profile at a time. but it insists on keeping whatever job the user has specified last.

The user can pause an existing backup, but that is all, short of installing the program. In the settings, there is no way to not run it at any time in the future. The schedule can be one of three choices: 1) decided by GTB, 2) at an interval (from 3 min to a day), or 3) pick a day and time to run (Day of week, and a start and end time). There is no choice to eliminate the job entirely.

In my case, I have decided to use a different program for the time being, and I need the space and resources this program would use. When I add an extra external hard drive, I would then return to this program.

This is the first time seeing a program operate like this. In an attempt to keep things simple, they left out one important feature.

Issue 2:
A second issue is the choices of files to select for a backup. There is no simple way to select a directory and its sub-directories as the source files.

Issue 3:
Each attempt to create a new backup, changes the default backup folder by adding a number at the end. _Genie Timeline becomes _Genie Timeline(1), even if the first backup will never run. If no new backup profile is created, but another one is attempted, _Genie Timeline(1) becomes _Genie Timeline(2). An attempt to rename _Genie Timeline(1) to _Genie Timeline caused the program to reject the change, insisting that directory already exists, although it does not on the disk. I finally allowed the program to back up the desktop to see what happens. _Genie Timeline(1) was created but is totally empty. _Genie Timeline has one file (bootmx.dat) but it will never be used since I created a different backup profile.

I probably will not find many other errors with this program, because there are better solutions.

One thing that is concerning though is the phrase in the receipt that reads "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 1 month. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted"

Regarding your concerns; please find our comments below:

Issue 1: Genie Timeline (GTL) is designed to run the backup continuously. So, to cancel the backup without starting a new one instead of it, you will need to temporarily uninstall GTL. You can install it back at anytime.

Issue 2: You can simply select to backup cerian directories with all their sub-directories, by opening GTL ? Manage Backup ? Modify Data Selection ? Go to the "My Computer" tab ? Select the wanted directories ? Save.

Issue 3: Yes, every time you start a new backup, GTL will create a new _Genie Timeline folder in the destination drive. It is very important that you do not try to rename this folder, as doing this will break the consistency of the backup. David Drane Jeroen, I have the software and had the previous version too. They only appear to give one product update a year. I havent seen any interim versions throughout the year. 8.0.1.100 it is the current version and that was the same as launch back in April 2017. I suspect we are due the 2018 version soon as its this time of year it normally appears.

I like the software and it does back up and version as it says.. Only niggle is that on recent versions of windows 10, the system tray icon often doesn't appear but is showing in the task manager as running. However, when that happens, the backup is not actually running as it fails to back anything up (you have to go to task manager, end the task and then re-run it). So, you have to keep an eye on it.

I´m not quite sure, but I think there has been an issue regarding using genie timeline on multi-partitions /multi-disks - pcs with more than 1 windows installation and using boot managers. that´s certainly some years ago.

So please tell me if there can be any unwanted interaction between genie-timeline, boot managers, multi os-partitions / disks

Amit I have some really important queries for the genie timeline pro version, please take the time and be kind to answer them all clearly - This would clarify a lot about the software to others as well as I ask here about the product -

1. I want to conserve disk space when using this software. So will it PREVENT making copies of large files such as video files and whatever files I specify by size or fileformat ? I mean only 1 copy should be made of such specified files, while rest of the normal files backed up in multiple versions ?

2. Is this pro software has same imaging software having same fully featured capabilities of making system images and restoring bootable images of system partition, Just like macrium reflect etc. or this is Just a file backup software ?

3. Is pro version compatible with macrium, aoemi backupper and other softwares too as minitool shadowmaker all of them ?

4. Does this pro version work as a file/folder/partition sync software too, with both source and destination folders/partitions/harddrives synced ?

5. Is there CONTINOUS AUTOMATIC DETECTION of file changes and when detected, files are backed up instantly and automatically as soon there is ANY CHANGE ? I mean will all the files get backed up instantly even when they were modified only 1 minute before. And this process would be automatic and continous ? without requiring manual or scheduled backup to run manually or by like - every-1hour backup schedule ?

6. ALSO - FOR FILE/FOLDER/PARTITION SYNCING - I really would like clarification, same as above - THAT -

1. Retaining file versions for files according to the size is not available, however Genie Timeline will conserve space by deleting old versions automatically for files after the backup drive starts to fill up.

2. Yes, GTL has a Disaster Recovery feature in case of system drive failures

3. If you are talking about affinity, there should not be any problems running GTL with these other softwares

4. This is mainly a backup solution and does not sync your files. Whatever changes you do to the backup files it do not replicate on the original files.

5. Yes, this feature exists and can be set to run each three minutes as minimum.

6. As mentioned before, this is automatic and can be set according to your wish.

7. Original files along with their attributes do not get modified at any circumstances.

8. As above, nothing is changed.

9. Settings file retention settings according to file sizes is not available yet.

10. GTL will delete old versions automatically and also you can limit the versions age to be kept. Let's say versions older than 15 days are automatically deleted. You can also limit the backup size so GTL will start deleting old version when reaching close to the limit.

1. I am interested in purchasing lifetime upgrades as mentioned on order page, but in the lif upg on order page, its written as - "Lifetime Upgrades Timeline 2015 Pro (Yearly) for $20". The YEARLY term mentioned is causing the confusion. I want to ask, if I want lifetime upgrades, what will be the additional cost other than $11.99 - will it be a ONLY ONETIMECOST of $20 or would it be any every year cost of like $20 or so ?

2. Is there a history webpage for releases ? and when is next maJor release to be ?

3. If there is no modification of a file, like in video files - then the software should not Just keep making multiple copies of the file. Means the software should make multiple backed up version copies of only modified files and not unmodified files. Is this correct ?

4. If I restore a file from the backup, then would the restored file have the same dates - creation date + modification date + accessed date - as that of the original file ?

5. I have to know FOR DATES OF RESTORED FILES - Say for a word/text document file in D:/myfiles, having originally creation date of 1 June 2018 and modification date of 2 June 2018 and accessed date of 3 June 2018 -
a) When I restore this file on 9 Sep 2018, from its backed up version, backed up on 4 June 2018, WHEN THE FILE IS RESTORED TO a different folder ( E:/restoredfiles-01 ), will it have the same dates as the dates of the file which were at the time of backup on 4 June ? Means, would the restored file have the dates - creation date as 1 June 2018 and mod. date as 2 June and accessed date as 3 June 2018 ?
b) And if this file is LATER modified on 6 August and accessed on 7 August. Then when I restore this file on 11 Sep 2018, from its backed up version, backed up on 8 August 2018, will the file RESTORED TO a different folder ( E:/restoredfiles-02 ), will have the same dates as the dates of the file which were at the time of backup on 8 Aug ? Means, would the restored file have the dates - creation date as 1 June 2018 and mod. date as 6 Aug and accessed date as 7 Aug 2018 ?
IN BRIEF - I WANT TO KNOW DATES OF RESTORED FILES - I WANT THEM TO BE THE SAME AS AT THE TIME OF BACKUP. THIS FEATURE IS A REALLY IMPORTANT FEATURE FOR RESTORATION OF FILES. CAN GENIE9 ADD THIS FEATURE, IF ITS STILL NOT PRESENT IN IT ?

Lu Pus I have an older giveaway version (2013 v4.0.5) and bought this license now, but how do I add it to my installed program?
It has the giveaway key and there's no button to remove it. I don't want to deinstall the tool - did too many individual settings there.

Can I download the current trial and install it over my 2013 version and add the new license? Will it keep my settings?

You need to click on the recycle bin symbol to delete the extra support. Those years cost extra. Then the price will go down.

Lazar Voin After a week finally, I got it working by using "Microsoft Edge!"
The site uses Javascript, removed by "Google Chrome!" browser so you do not see the "Trash Can!" to the right of quantity! By using the MS Edge Browser you can see them and junk the numbers of years or number of licenses! Too bad the site could not help with this. I hope it will help some of the buyers!

I have one on my Firefox browser because is it my default one. That's why I use an empty Chrome browser for stuff that may need everything enabled.

1. To get the lifetime upgrade, you should pay $20 on yearly basis (Not one time payment). As long as you are paying those $20, you will get a license key for any new GTL version we will be releasing in the future.

2. No, there is no history web page for GTL releases or when is next major release will be. However, you can always check what is new in each new GTL version here: https://gtlwiki.genie9.co...in-gtl-10/

3. Yes, GTL makes multiple backed up version copies of only modified files.

4 & 5. By restoring a file from the backup, the creation date and the modification date will be preserved (Exact dates as the originally backed up file), but not the access date. You can test this out by downloading the trial edition of GTL.

6 & 7. Sure, we do. Your requested feature will find its way to the specialized department. Hope it will be implemented in the next releases.

Genie9 @John Hood, please put the exact file name in the Search box and hit Enter. If there is a file with that name in your backup, you should see a result.

To start a new backup, just open the Genie Timeline software, go to Manage Backup, and select the "Start a new backup" option.

Only the (unfortunately discontinued) CrashPlan software had a great "Backup Retention Policy" feature. And the free open source Duplicacy backup software has it.

Genie9 @Karl M., Genie Timeline is designed to run one backup job continuously in the background of the system, so you can set and forget it. You can include all the files/folders/drives you are interested in backing them up in this backup job.

At anytime, you can edit your data selections to add more data or to remove some.

But you did not answer my question: What is the advantage or idea behind the fact that Genie Timeline Pro allows only ONE backup set? All other backup solutions I know allow MORE than ONE backup jobs to run continuously in the background of the system.

Example: I want to back up drive C:/folder1/ on my computer to backup drive X:, and C:/folder2/ on my computer to backup drive Y:. All backup programs, even freeware, can do such really simple things but Genie Timeline can't – isn't it really strange?

Then Genie 9 "just released its latest version" of Genie Timeline Backup Professional 10.

Still they write on the homepage the version is "NEW". New since 9 months?

Considering that updates are included for 4 week only (!!), I must assume that in 6 weeks a newer version appears. And all buyers here must pay for an update.
Might by a clever business model. But not so user friendly.

Genie9 @Karl M. Kindly note that our company have another local backup solution that allows having multiple backup jobs, each with its own settings, data selections and destination. This solution is Genie Backup Manager (https://www.zoolz.com/gen...fessional/).

So, Genie Timeline has been developed for the users who are interested in more simple backup solution.

Genie Timeline will show the "Not Protected" backup status if it has not finished backing up all the selected data yet. Give it some more time, and if the issue persist, feel free to contact the Technical Support team (support@genie9.com)

You can transfer the Genie Timeline software and license to another computer if the current one crashea, even without the lifetime upgrade.

Karl M. I have really tested it, it's a nice program. BUT Genie Timeline Pro allows only ONE backup set. So if I need to add another backup set I need to use a different backup program. This is something I completely do not understand, there's no technical reason for it, just policy. Really strange!

Stephen Warkentien I installed the trial version, but it would not run because the trial period had expired on a previous trial. I deleted program with Revo Uninstaller Pro and reinstalled. Same problem.

Stephen Warkentien I haven't been using this software. I evaluated it once and decided not to purchase. I only wanted to evaluate the program again for one day only while the sale was active. Nevermind.

I deleted your software using Revo Uninstaller Pro. Even so your program somehow knew I have evaluated it once before.

You should not be leaving any trace of your software on my machine after I uninstall. !!

Nicolas El Krommo Now, Sunday evening (in Netherlands), still the same problem. Few minutes ago I used the link from new BitsduJour-email. The website at 'zoolz' etc. does NOT open really. The url keeps 'blinking'. Page-content doesn't load, So it's IMPOSSIBLE to go on with buying-process. Very disappointing, also that Genie9-advices are denying the problem.

How does GTP handle Windows updates that crash the computer and make it unbootable?

Does GTP make it possible to revert back to previous pre-update version of Windows?

William W. User Impossible to buy at the advertised discount price. I tried by using three different browsers, including Chromee. "Get this deal" transfers you to the official Genie page, which only allows purchasing at the non-discounted price (apart from the three-pack deal, which is still double the BitsDuJour price, and insists on buying extra support) .
A pity. I wanted to buy 5 copies for my five main computers. Genie Timeline is one of the very best programs on the market.
I hope Genie will get its house in order, and will put off buying until they do.

Rohs I went to purchase it. Link took me to your website. Clicked on "Buy Now 59.95" Got a pop-up asking if I wanted a 3 pack for discounted price. I clicked "No, continue with my original order" Was taken to a page with Genie Timeline Pro 10 as well as the "2 years extended support" I tried to click the "-" minus key to remove the 2 yrs support. Did not work. There is not a trash icon on the carts page (https://secure.avangate.c...r/checkout.) Clicked on "I have a discount coupon" and applied the code for bitsDuJour discount... and it applied it, but still had no way of removing the 2 year support
