There are very good reasons why you would want to block access to certain Internet sites – to protect your children, to safeguard your privacy, or to enforce company rules on Internet usage. No matter what category you fall into, you need to hear about today’s discount software promotion, Gold Limiter!

Gold Limiter lets you block access to websites, with options to customize for categories, individual URLs, and scheduled blocking. With Gold Limiter, you can block access to the Internet for those days and times when your kids are supposed to be doing homework. Or use Gold Limiter to allow access, but impose time limitations.

Imagine the immediate boost in productivity you’ll experience when your kids or employees are compelled to do what they actually need to do, instead of being distracted by the Internet! Password protection means that only you can disable the program, while flexible options means you can allow specific exceptions to the filter, or include a specific URL for blocking! It’s all possible with Gold Limiter!

After you purchase Gold Limiter, it may be used for 12 months.

This promotion includes the following:
Gold Limiter Single License ($39.99)
Gold Limiter Family Pack (up to 3 computers) ($79.99)
Gold Limiter Enterprise Pack ($199.99)

Joe M It seems that most of what this program does for blocking websites and scheduled blocking, I can already do this on my modem for free. So why would I need this program?

Chris Roy Jackson Which Statement about this offer is correct ???:
Today's Gold Limiter discount promotion includes the following license types:

Gold Limiter Single License ($23.99)
Gold Limiter Family Pack (up to 3 computers) ($47.99)
(G) -- "G" is Missing !!! old Limiter Enterprise Pack ($119.99)

or the following Statement in the "Fine Print" on this page (quoted below) ???:

"Gold Limiter is licensed for family use, so everyone in a household can use the software.

Each license allows installation on 3 computers, but Gold Limiter may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them."

Sincerely,
Chris Roy Jackson

James K A free and easy way to block websites under every version of windows since Windows 95: edit your hosts file to include the domains to exclude. Like this:

# The line below blocks all communication to Doubleclick
127.0.0.1 doubleclick.com

This works because the hosts file is accessed first, before your computer queries an Internet Domain Server.

The above command tells your computer to ALWAYS contact the IP Address 127.0.0.1 whenever awebpage reffers to doubleclick.com. 127.0..0.1 is a dummy address that points back to your computer. So, unless you are running a webserver on the same computer that you are browsing from, every request will fail. As a consiquence, instead of seeing ads from doubleclick, you will most be likely see a small error message where the ad should.

If you don't want to do it yourself, google "ad block host file", without the quotes. The best one in my opinion comes from mvps.com.

P.S. if some websites stop working, you can remove them from the hosts file. You can useally tell what sites need removing by reading the error message. I've found I need to do this with coupon sites.

Joe M To James K.
I have used that for years and it works great for also blocking ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm is good place to start with learning how to do this easily.
