What are people saying about Buy GoodSync2Go, Get A Free GoodSync for Windows/Mac license

Rune Johannessen For how long does a license last? Can one update/upgrade for free for one year after the purchase of the licence, or for the life of one major version.

If the license-period is for one major version, what about an eventual upgrade from the current v7.9.9.5 to v8.

Is the license some sort of subscription, or can a licensed version be used - without buying upgrades - for as long as the user wants?

Nick Kobe Hi!

I store backup files, etc on multiple external drives. Will the "single" license allow the user to install the software on multiple external drives? Thanks! Nick

Alex Antonov Rune:

The license lasts indefinitely.

You can update/upgrade for free once your purchased the license.

Currently, we don't have any plans to change the licensing schema or to charge for an upgrade for the consumer version of GoodSync2Go v.8.

Alex Antonov Nick:

Yes, the GoodSync2Go license will let you use these external drives on multiple computers. Here is what you will need to do:

- install and activate GoodSync2Go on one of the USB devices that you allways carry with you (e.g., a USB thumbdrive)
- when you need to sync, connect that drive to a PC and, if you need to sync to another external device, connect that external device as well.

Doug A I use several different external USB drives for storage (one for Vids and MP3s, one for programs, one for work, etc.), and then back up these individual drives to a larger main backup. I'll often end up modifying MP3 tags, renaming, and resorting files into different directories on the individual hard drives, and then need to make sure those changes are also reflected in the primary backup. I purchased GoodSync2Go during Bitsdujour's last offering, and it has been great to be able to use one license to back up my laptop to the individual drives, and then the individual drives to the main backup, keeping everything in sync. Thumbs up!

Ash Goyal Got introduced to Goodsync's free version when I bought Roboform and needed to sync passwords. Excellent program! Ended up buying the Pro version last January at BitsDJ for $14.95. This one is a portable version so worth every penny ;)

BTW, loyal users of Goodsync Pro version can get this portable version anytime directly at Siber Systems site for $19.99. Thanks

Mike G Okay, so GoodSync is installed on the operating system and GoodSync2Go runs off a USB or other removable storage device. GoodSync is best for computers connected over a network while GoodSync2Go is designed for "sneakernet" connections. Does that basically cover the differences?

If so, my only question is how RoboForm will integrate with GoodSync2Go vs. GoodSync. For example, if I purchase GoodSync2Go, will Roboform still need to download GoodSync when I click Tools - Sync RoboForm Data and then require upgrade to GoodSync Pro if we have more than 100 logins? I guess in that case I would just ignore the RoboForm Tools menu and use a GoodSync2Go job instead...

I can imagine some non-technical home users having trouble picturing all of this and just giving up. It would be good if Siber Systems website had a simple FAQ page covering this--similar to the Free vs. Pro page (if it's there I didn't see it).

Siber Systems Mike: Can you clarify if you're syncing to your own storage or with RoboForm Online? Also, depends on whether you're running RoboForm or RoboForm2Go.

As far as GoodSync vs GoodSync2Go, you are correct: the former is installed on a hard drive and the latter on a USB drive.

Mike G Just got home. Less than an hour remaining for the discount, maybe Siber Systems could squeeze in one more response!

I already purchased GoodSync2Go this morning, but what I need to do is sync to my own storage to keep Roboform (and other apps) synchronized on two different PC's. I have have RoboForm not Roboform2Go.

Do I also have to buy GoodSync Pro and/or Roboform2Go? Having to deal with all these different licenses is a bit too much...

Jason Howard I purchased this in a prior offer on BDJ. I use it all the time, the quality and performance of this software is excellent. Note that the Policy stated above is incorrect . "Licensed per computer for non-concurrent use only". The correct policy from the GoodSync2Go website is: "You only need one license for GoodSync2Go, so you can buy one GoodSync2Go license and keep several computers in sync."

Siber Systems Thanks for your kind words. To clarify, GoodSync2Go is licensed on a per USB drive on a non-concurrent basis. The BDJ back-end didn't have that option. You are correct that GoodSync2Go can be used on unlimited desktops since the USB drive can of course be moved back and forth :-) However, we do not want users to think they can license for unlimited USB drives.

C Reddy Does " per USB drive for non-concurrent use only " mean it can be installed on only one USB drive (in this case, non-concurrent use seems redundant since the USB drive is singular and cannot be used in multiple instances) or can be installed on any number of USB drives but only one USB drive can be used at any one time. If it is the former, then it is a bit expensive, since most use more than one backup device and one license for every backup drive is hard to justify.

Michael R. Having just downloaded your demo, but not really tried yet, I have some additional questions, concerning synchronizing of not-connected computers via usb-stick (I know, that is no easy task: I wrote a little tool for myself before this widespread internet-accessibility, of course using 1.44MB-disks instead of some-GB-USB-Sticks):

Can the files be encrypted on the usb-stick, so a potential thief of the usb-stick can't use them? If not, can e.g. a truecrypt-volume be used, where the synchronized data can stay?

What, if the usb-stick is smaller than the required space? Can the first part of the synchronisation be done one day, the second the next, ... until it has been done completely?

Is there a kind of update-compression? E.g. if the work-computer would know exactly, what's on the home-computer, in theory instead of storing the complete changed file on the usb-stick, if could just store the difference: a patch-file. This would decrease the needed space dramatically...

~~~~
I have seen you do online-registration from within your program. Probably this is done, to connect the license with a hardware-fingerprint, to avoid the user to store the program on more than one usb-stick. So what can the user do, if he has bought a larger usb-stick and wants to use your tool on that or even worse, if the  usb-stick is defect? Hopefully, he does not have to buy a new license, does he?
Hugo Claros Thanks for the chance to get your software.
1) I second the questions of Michael R: the city i live in makes me wonder what happens when (note i'm saying "when", not "if") somebody steals my USB. Will i lose not only my USB and my precious data, but my GoodSync2Go license too?
I mean, i guess you can deactive your license in one usb and active it in another one (e.g.: if upgrading your usb, or using an external disk because of the need of much more space). But that's not the case when somebody steals your usb: you can't deactivate the license. What happens then?
2) That patch-file option Michael talks about is really really interesting too. If i would need a patch file only, i would even when somebody stoles my key, the data will be useless without the full version of the files. Is something like that in your plans?
Siber Systems Billie Gray: GoodSync can sync any file/directory whether it was created by another software or not.
Jim Willis: Please contact BDJ directly for this.
Robert S: Yes, please contact our support team for this.
Chandrasekhar Reddy: It is the former, however if you are backing up with the same USB drive on multiple desktops, you need not install on the desktops, so in that sense it can be quite affordable.
David Dinwiddie: How many licenses are you looking to purchase? If it's more than 2, email me directly at sdavis (at) siber [dot] com and I can send you a custom link.
Michael R: If the USB drive is defective, you can transfer the license to a new one free of charge. Also, please note USB drive can also mean 'removable hard drive', so if space is an issue you might want to look into that option. Compresses sync is not possible yet. You can sync compressed files, but this needs to be done outside of GoodSync. Also, for an incremental sync, this can be done by creating smaller sync 'Jobs' for each volume-hower if you're using one drive that may not be practical.
Hugo Claros: As mentioned, we can transfer your license to a new drive. As far as encrypted sync, you can transfer encrypted files and then decrypt them on the more secure desktop if you wish.
Bob Hughes: You may do this within 30 days of your purchase. Please contact support.
Peter Martin I change computers every 3 years and I have two sets of computers one at office and one at home. I have now four computers two old and two new. Sometimes I transfer files that I need from the old to the new.
Can I use Goodsync2go to backup my files on all four computers. Say can I back up my desktop files on computer a then comp b then comp c exec and how do you do this?
I tried to back up files from computer c to a external hard drive which already contains files  from computer a  and computer b and when i did that, it seems like it deleted some of the files from comp a and b in the external drive. I am not sure what happened but I see several lines of " Delete File 'F:\dad's tablet documents ..."
What happened? Did it delete the documents because it is already present? Did I do it wrongly? How do I do it right next time so that I won't delete any files. I don't mind loosing duplicate files.
Even with changing computers, you can move the license over if necessary. As for the deleted files, did this happen when you used GoodSync?
Doug A Great Software. I use it from my USB pen-drive to back up my laptop to multiple USB drives, and to create a 2ndary backup from USB drive to USB drive. I have to be sure to keep master/slave in the correct order, of course!
The license is a bit unclear. While the product doesn't stop working (may be used indefinitely) and I'm always eligible for support (support for life), I don't think this means that UPDATES are always free. I've made lots of updates within version 8 for free, but I believe Siber Systems' "getting back to us" means that when v9 comes out, that it will cost to upgrade.
This is often the case that minor updates (8.x to 8.y) are free, but major updates (8.x to 9.x) cost an upgrade fee. It would be nice to know that since v9Beta is near, that it would be included if we buy now.
Siber Systems Hi everyone, this is to clear confusion about any upgrades via this deal.
First and foremost, you are entitled to free upgrades within the particular version that you purchase (as long as we are still upgrading that version). For example, if you purchase V8 you are entitled to updates within that version.
GS2GO Version 8 Windows will be a free upgrade to version 9 for anyone purchasing Version 8 GS2GO Windows today. Windows GoodSync Version 9 is only weeks away from being released, so this is the most fair to our customers and we want to make sure that you get that free upgrade to Version 9 having purchased so recently!
GS2G0 MAC cannot be promised a free upgrade to the next version because we do not know when the next version of GoodSync for Mac will be released. You are entitled to free upgrades within the GS2GO Mac version that you purchase today though.
Thank you,
Michelle
Fletch GoodSync v9 will require TWO licenses IF you choose to take advantage of it's most significant feature - client/server sync.
Does the 2Go version running from a thumb drive support running the server - given that this is typically a service installed during setup?
So I could have GoodSync 9 installed on a desktop. Then I could move the thumb drive among other systems and sync to them using GSTP - the client/server mechanism?
Hitman Noticed on the site
http://www.goodsync.com/s...oodsync2go
Limitations of GoodSync2Go:
- GoodSync Connect server part does not work, because service installation is required.
- On Schedule Auto option does not work, because Windows Scheduler cannot run GoodSync2Go jobs.
- Start GoodSync when Windows starts Auto option does not work.
- Copy Locked Files option does not work, as GoodSync must install a DLL for that.
For the reasons above, the Desktop version is more attractive to me. Are you interested in offering that version soon?
vps-rr 1) Is it allowed to install the portable on a fixed disk?
2) Is it allowed to install the portable version on multiple computers (fixed disk) which I own within my home.
The reason for this that I re-image my systems on regular basis or restore a system snapshot on regular basis. Having a portable version makes means I only have to put the program on a seperate drive/partition and never have to worry about it again.
But you do not have to, you can get the Desktop version. We are not currently offering this on Bits du Jour, but you can purchase it on our web site at http://www.goodsync.com.
Siber Systems John,
The benefit of having GS2Go is that GoodSync2Go runs from the portable device itself, not on the host computer. Therefore you can install and run GoodSync2Go even when you don't have administrator rights or installing software is prohibited on the host computer. You only need one license for GoodSync2Go, so you can buy one GoodSync2Go license and keep several computers in sync.
Here is some information on our platforms: http://www.goodsync.com/p...s/overview
Doug Atkinson I already own both GoodSync2Go and Desktop, but I did note what @Lupke stated above, that multiple license pricing isn't working. I've sent you a couple of screenshots.
I have one primary PC and multiple back-up hard drives. For example, one drive for music files, one for videos, another for applications, and so forth. I also have back-ups of those hard drives, since I don't want to keep all that content on my PC, and I don't want a single point of failure.
As I download new files to my PC, they get copied (usually manually) to the proper hard drive and sub-directory. Then I use GoodSync2Go to syncrhonize the one hard drive to my 2ndary hard drive. This also allows me to work on my files on the primary drive (such as correcting MP3 file names & album art), and then just running GoodSync2Go to propagate those changes to the other drive.
My caution is making sure that I keep my primary and 2ndary drives in order so I don't end up "synchronizing" the old one to the new and losing files. However, Goodsync provides warning indicators of this, as long as you pay attention to them!
Highly recommended.
Siber Systems Hi @Lupke and @Doug,
The Bits du Jour deal is 50% off of one license, which equals $19.95. Original license price is $39.95, and we give users a second license for $29.95. When you purchase GS2GO on the Bits du Jour deal you will get the first license for $19.95, 50% off, but the second license price stays the same at $29.95. So the amount that you are getting is indeed correct.
Doug, thank you so much for recommending GS2GO and GS Desktop to the Bits du Jour users!
Doug Atkinson Strange licensing - so I can have my son and my wife and my daughter each buy a single license today at $19.99 (using separate accounts), but I can't just do this for my family with one purchase? I already have all the licenses I need, so the above is just hypothetical, but it just seems odd to me that you don't offer the same discount no matter what quantity. Okay, enough complaining. It's a good product, and for the Goodsync2Go product you likely only need once license anyway!
DroidLuvr I already have GoodSync Pro 9 that I purchased about 6 months ago, and I love it!! I have been using it with GoodSync Connect (local network only) to keep my "file storage" USB drives and my backup USB drives backed up from my other computers on my home network.
I have no computers at any remote locations, so what would be the benefit to adding GoodSync2Go?
Also: I have RoboForm Everywhere and it is something I can't imagine being without now!!! You have developed some awesome products!! As an IT tech for 20+ years, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your products to anyone!!
I do see that if I purchase the GoodSync2Go, I can get the $9.95 price for the year's subscription to the RoboForm Everywhere - but your website is still advertising that price for "the first year." Is it possible to purchase now to extend my existing account which will expire in January??
Thank you for using GoodSync. Did you check out GS for Android Server, just released? You can now access GS on your Android. If you do not need to sync multiple computers, then you do not need GS2GO. It would be beneficial if you'd like the benefits of GS to take with you on the go.
Thank you for using RF Everywhere. RF Everywhere is 50% off for all first year users, you cannot get your second year for $9.95, it is $19.95. When you enter your order ID, the website should recognize that you have already purchased your first year of Everywhere.
Amit 1) As the license is not per user, so can anyone within the family use this software installed on a thumb (pen) drive ? Or does one have to buy say 3 licenses for 3 users - even when only 1 pen drive will be used at a time and so only 1 concurrent use ?
2) And can is license transferrable to any other pen drive, even if its not damaged. for eg. I use that very pen drive for another use and format it knowingly.
3) What are the options available in backing up files to online - which online places can I backup and sync files to ? And are some of them free ?
Can I use Goodsync to be a full replacement for online storage of my data ?
4) And the enterprise license has some better options - and it says licensed per user, so can 1 enterprise license be used on as many computers owned by the single user or just 2-3 ?
Thanks.
Siber Systems @Pavi,
Yes we do not do any encryption for a job, but the FileSystem itself needs to perform the encryption. So we suggest something like formatting a drive with EFS or using a third party tool like True Crypt to l create an encrypted drive and then mount that drive as a normal NTFS drive, which GoodSync can handle.
Thanks,
Michelle
Siber Systems @Amit,
1) This would just depend on how you and your family share your files. When you sign up for GoodSync, you create one account for your USB license, not several. So it is technically one account, but how you back up and share your files between your family is your own decision. Only one person can use the USB device at a time, so it'd be more convenient for everyone to have their own.
2) One license per USB drive. If your USB drive gets damaged and you need to transfer the license over to another USB drive, please contact our support team at http://www.goodsync.com/support. You cannot use one license on multiple USB drives, one license per USB.
3) GoodSync synchronizes and backs up files such as photos, financial documents, MP3s, e-mails between desktops, laptops, servers, and external drives. It is not an online storage (cloud) software. You can back up to online storage services, check out our platforms page for more information: https://www.goodsync.com/...s/overview.
4) For more information about GoodSync Enterprise please contact our Enterprise department: https://www.goodsync.com/enterprise.
The upgrade to V10 is not around the corner, as V9 is brand new. If we do upgrade to V10 one day, all previous users will receive an upgrade discount, but we cannot say that it will be free at this moment. Usually, we let users who purchase within the year of the new version to upgrade for free.
Yes, I am late to this site! But, shame that Siber Systems does not send any info/promotional email to its existing cutomers. I have been enquiring about 50% discount since early this year off and ON via support ticket. But, everyone responded as I was nuts thinking of 50% discount - I asked around february & March and then in September this year. Nobody mentioned this deal at this site I ran into.
Can you do something about it?
I am also a college student. Is there a student discount of 50% or something maybe? Roboform is running 75% off for students.
It depends on the date of the release of V10, you may be eligible for a free upgrade if we release V10 within a certain amount of time after your purchase of V9. Right now we have no plans to release V10 or a different version of GoodSync. Free updates within each version are always provided.
Yes, you do receive a discount on additional license purchases, however Bits du Jour's GS2GO deal is actually better than the additional license purchase for GS2GO, so definitely take advantage of it!
Robert User 1) Does goodSync2Go recognize renamed files on one side and do the appropriate move on the other side instead of a transfer of data? I heard this is the case but could not locate that information on the goodsync.com website.
2) The online FAQs do not specifically state whether they cover GoodSync2Go or the standard GoodSync program. Since I have a license for GoodSync 10 that I have never installed, I am curious about one of the entries in the FAQs, and how it applied to the regular GoodSync and the GoodSync2Go. One of the statements contains:
"Also, free space on C: should be at least twice as big as the biggest file you will copy."
2a) Is this requirement determined by where GoodSync is installed, or where its settings are located? (C:\Users\User Name\App Data\Roaming\GoodSync\)
2b) Most importantly, can it be changed to a different drive? (I do not want to use the C: drive SSD as a buffer for copying)
2c) Does this affect GoodSync2Go?
3) I could not locate this information on the goodsync.com website, but on BitsduJour, the platforms stated for GoodSync are for Vista or higher, but the platform shown here on BitsduJour show GoodSync2Go can run on Windows XP. Is this correct? if so, why does GoodSync not work on XP?
Apr 12 2017 at 12:04pm Copy Link
0
Siber Systems @Robert User
1. Yes, when sync is in place, GoodSync recognizes it as new file and propagates changes on both sides.
2. All of the FAQs are based on both programs, the only difference is licensing between and where you can install
2a. Because we copy before we sync, in the case of deletions, it's recommended to have twice as much space because any file that is deleted will be kept as a backup until the next sync or until you manually delete the file
2b. Yes, you can install GoodSync wherever you'd like. You are not restricted to the C drive.
2c. Yes the free space and the drive answers are also applicable to GoodSync2Go.
3. GoodSync will probably still work on XP, but unfortunately we no longer support this OS.
Robert User Thanks Siber Systems for the reply, but some of the responses has not answered what I was asking.
I have to do a lot of syncing, a source to a destination (more duplicate/backup then sync), and very often a very large file or folder needs to be renamed on the source side. I am concerned in cases where the source and destination copies do not change, merely a rename on the source side. To prevent re-copying a very large file/folder, I generally have to do a manual rename on the destination side. I would like to use a utility that recognizes that the source has a renamed file or folder, and does an appropriate rename/move on the destination side. Your reply did not clarify how GoodSync handles this situation:
>1. Yes, when sync is in place, GoodSync recognizes it as new file and propagates changes on both sides.
Of course it propagates changes on both sides, that is its primary function. In a sync scenario, "recognizes it as new file and propagates changes on both sides" could mean that two copy operations occur, and I end up with the same data twice on both sides but with different names. In a backup (duplicate) scenario, that could mean I end up with two copies on the destination side, all due to a unnecessary long copy operation.
I was asking about whether GoodSync recognizes a file has been renamed on one side, and then does the same rename on the other side, in order to prevent unnecessary copying a large file over again. The data can be recognized as being the same because it has the same hash values. The text "GoodSync recognizes it as new file" imples that GoodSync does not recognize the data on one side has been renamed.
>2a. Because we copy before we sync, in the case of deletions, it's recommended to have twice as much space because any file that is deleted will be kept as a backup until the next sync or until you manually delete the file
I understand why twice as much space is necessary; what I wanted to know is if that location was dictated by the User settings location (C:\Users\User Name\App Data\Roaming\GoodSync\) and if that location could be specified by the user. Like other programs, I am confident I can install GoodSync on any drive, but often programs still have their settings stored on the C: drive, generally C:\Users\...). I would prefer the settings location also not be on the C: drive, and also any reserve space not be on the C: drive. In short, can I install GoodSync and not use the C: drive for any part of its operation?
>3. GoodSync will probably still work on XP, but unfortunately we no longer support this OS.
Therefore, is this promotion wrong in having XP listed as one of the Platforms for GoodSync2Go?
Siber Systems Hi @Robert User - We highly recommend that in addition to our reply, you also contact our technical support team as they'll be best suited to provide the most in depth responses and address any remaining questions you may have.
1. Yes GoodSnc will recognize a name change, but treats it as a new file.
2. File backup is done in the same drive or folder where the sync is started from in a hidden folder. The location cannot be modified, but this feature can be disabled.
(C:\Users\User Name\App Data\Roaming\GoodSync\) is only used for the job files and not for back up purposes. The Goodsync installation can be done on any drive you have installed. Goodsync2Go is used for an external drive that will be connected to other computers.
3. While there are no known issues regarding GoodSync and XP, we have requested this promotion remove the information.
