Phil H Hi, Rob - I am interesting in either the Business Edition or Marketing pack, as both seem to offer functionality that would be useful in our business (marketing research).

I've just sent an e-mail to you, as you suggested.

Thank you.

Bob S What are the capabilities of the Personal addition for managing a small e-mail campaign?  Probably 100-200 recipients, 1, 2, possibly up to 3 e-mails for a contact.  I'm especially interested in knowing whether GroupMail would allow me to designate which recipients would and would not be included in a particular mailing (e.g., do not mail if recipient has already responded; or if an e-mail has been sent in the last 10 days; etc.).  Thank you.

Bob S I like the look of your product but must say you've made it very difficult to compare features across versions and determine the difference.  For example, I would like to know what the capabilities are for importing contacts from Excel and Outlook, but it's difficult to ascertain - the Personal ver. appears to accept Outlook Express (which I don't use), but doesn't mention Outlook or Excel. A Table comparing versions would be easy to prepare and very useful for prospective buyers.

Bob S Sorry, giving up.  Downloaded version above in an attempt to determine what functionality is included, only to find it's the "free version" - instead of explaining which features are included, the program shows a screen "Upgrade now to get that feature" each time one tries to access certain features.  This is a very poor approach to usability which frustrates prospects and undoubtedly cuts down on your sales.  Bits du jour, I know it's not your job to advise vendors but I hope other vendors learn from this and make it easier for prospective customers to evaluate, compare and decide whether to purchase their product.  The  irony is that GroupMail looks like a good product, but the vendor has made it difficult if not impossible to ascertain before buying.

Robert Martin Hi Bob S, First, apologies for only replying to your messages now - I just received notification that you posted here. 1. The free version is ideal for sending to small groups, but is limited to sending a 100 emails at one time. However, you can then send to another 100, and another 100 and so on.. you can also create as many groups as you wish. 2. You can filter sending your message to specific subsets of an email list such as city, state, country etc or another other column of information you've stored. You can also include a column for people who do not respond and then filter by this group. However, you would need to add this info manually. 3. We have a feature comparison table on our own site, with full product information available underneath for each version:  http://www.group-mail.com...rchase.asp If you decide to give it another go in future Bob S, please get in touch if you've any further questions. Thanks Rob  - GroupMail Team

Michael R. Is it possible to e.g. write ONE monthly email and let each person only get the topics which are in the cathegory he/she subscribed to?

E.g. I write ONE email, with three topics. Let's say personal, computer, stamps. Person A is interested in computer and stamps, Person B, a fried of mine has cathegory personal and computer. So each of these receives only a part of the written email. A gets the paragraphs about computer and stamps and B about personal and computer.

And if yes: How is this done. I think the best way would be a kind of code to be written inside the mail itself. E.g. {/cathegory stamps}...

Robert Martin Hi Michael,

Yes, you can Personalize the Message Body using Merge Scripts.. for example If Field 1 = Personal then ... enter some specific text..
However, each field in the Group can only hold up to a maximum of 254 Characters per field, so it might be difficult to do this if there is a lot of text assocated with each topic.

Another way of doing it would be to create the message for a particlar topic, for example 'Personal' or 'Computer' etc.. then on the Prepare to Send Screen add Filters, to only send where Field 1 = Personal or Field 2 = Computer etc.

Thanks
Rob

Jeanine User I send out an email newsletter for a small nonprofit. We have a list of about 300 people who have subscribed. Our own email addy is on Gmail, which is great b/c it is free, provides online documents we can work on together, & we don't get any spam. However, it is not so great in that Gmail seems to not let me send out more than10 copies at a time. If I exceed that, I get all the subsequent messages bounced back. Will this software help me with that problem? Thanks.

Michael R. Thanks for the previous answer. Here is another question:

Beside subscribe/unsubscribe (which I saw can be done with the Subscriber-addin), is there a way to get a feedback from a user, which can be handled automatically by script.

E.g. if he/she wants to change his/her email, is now (no more) interested in an additional subject (e.g. Person B from above does not like stamps any more) needs to know the S/N of a bought product (which might be stored in a custom-field (if GroupMail) has something like that, wants to make a proposal, has a complaint, would like to give certain articles some stars (1 for bad article, 5 for excellent), allow a kind of survey (e.g. what theme should be in the next newsletter (one out of five proposals)).

Is it possible to evaluate such a feedback and store it in a CSV-file for further evaluation and/or define a rule to let GroupMail automatically change a field in the database for this user?

Robert Martin Hi VLM, GroupMail is very flexible. As well as the templates we provide, you can also create an HTML newsletter email using the GroupMail WYSIWYG message editor or create the design in your own editor externally and import it into GroupMail, whatever suits you.

Bruno Verschraegen Hello GroupMail,

Your version overview leads to believe that contacts can be imported into the Personal Edition only from address books and distribution lists in Outlook Express, Eudora, Opera, AOL, Netscape.

On the other hand, your FAQ indicates that you can import email contacts from .csv or .txt files - and does not specify whether or not this is limited to the Business version or also applies to the Personal edition.

PS. As far as I know Outlook Express has been phased out in the newer Windows versions (7 and up).

Robert Martin VLM: The offer is only available on the GroupMail Personal Edition. You can upgrade to the Business Edition afterwards for just $210 [Normal Price $349.95] from within your GroupMail account.

Bruno: It looks like we may need to update our site - thanks for the info. Yes, you can import contacts into the Personal Edition from both .txt and .csv files.

Yes, Outlook Express support is still available for customers on XP and previous operating systems.

Is there a mo/ann subscription fee for GroupMail Business Edition's Direct Send option during the first or subsequent years of use? If so, how much?

BTW, very informative website.

Robert Martin Hi JMJ,

No, there are no monthly or annual subscription fees with GroupMail's direct send option.

In fact, there is no recurring cost for the GroupMail Personal or Business Edition software license - which is desktop software that you can use as much as you want for as long as you want.

Thanks

JMJ Squared Rob, it appears I'll have to include you in my "Most Mailed Group".

Pardon my not being clear. My intended question was: Does GroupMail Personal Edition support sending "digitally" signed emails using signing certificates (eg., Comodo Secure Email) stored in Windows' Certificate Store? Unless I missed something in my perusing your website, it appears the answer is , "No".

We'll muddle through.

Thanks again.

Ciao!

@VLM - While waiting to save a couple bucks, courtesy of BitsDuJour, I test-drove the free/trial version by creating a group using several of my own email addresses. And, Yes; GroupMail does send out individual emails. No cc/bcc needed and no "leakage" of recipients addresses. My 2 cents. :)

4. RSS integration.

5. Write back to a list database.

6. Unicode support.

Amit The business edition is listed to have additional addons. would like to know more on them and are they an additional purchase after buying the business edition ?

The feature - Send personalized email-to-SMS text messages too - do we have to pay extra for the sms prices for the smses sent - like we send 10,000 sms - so would we have to pay for the sms charges to the communications network / or buy an account with some bulk sms providers for that ?

Or after purchasing the business edition, we can send as unlimited sms to any number of recipients, free for life ? And if yes, then does it work in all countries ?

And is the business edition to be here at BITSDUJOUR anytime soon ?

Robert Martin Hi VLM,

1. In the Personal Edition, you can set this up to automatically handle opt-ins, remove unsubscribes, and bounces. However, the schedule option is only available in the Business Edition and therefore you need to click "process now" whenever you want to process the email account.

2. Yes

3. YYes. ou can take your link from the survey providers and send to your contacts with GroupMail. Note: we offer our own free survey tool as well (GroupSurveys) and this is fully integrated into the software.

4. Not any more

5. This feature is only available in the Business Edition

6. Yes.

Robert Martin Amit,

There are a number of add-ons included in both the Personal and Business Edition of GroupMail. You can see the full list of what is included in each edition here: http://group-mail.com/ema...technical/

We just released a brand new sms app which is now available in both the Personal and Business Edition (Previously it was only available in the Business Edition.). Unfortunately you can not yet send messages to either the US or Canada (everywhere else in the world is covered). We are working hard on the US and Canada though and hope to have something available there in the next number of weeks (Their networks are a little more complicated to deal with.)

I'm afraid there is a charge for every sms message - you can see pricing for your particular country from within the add-on - you get 25 messages for free to test.

Finally, I need to discuss this with Bits du Jour - there seems to be some demand which means we may offer something in the future, but there is nothing yet planned.

I hope I answered everything for you ok - thanks for the questions.

Van Swofford I have to send emails to customers monthly. The email content is the same for all, but each customer has his own software installation codes that are included in the email. Can the mailing be customized in this way, or must the complete content be the same for each recipient? Also, for some customers, I send to multiple email addresses, with the same codes. Doable?

Thanks!

Robert Martin Hi Van, thanks for the question.

Yes, you can use the merge field option in GroupMail to insert the unique code into each email.

Yes, you can also send to multiple email addresses, you'll just need to create and store a separate record for the customer.

Hope this helps,

VLM Robert Martin - Thank you, direct and to the point. :)

1. You wrote: "Yes, you can use the merge field option in GroupMail to insert the unique code into each email."

From what sources (types) can you merge? For example, RDBMS (MySQL, SQL Server, etc.)? Spreadsheet (Excel, Calc, etc.)? CSV?

2. You also wrote: "Yes, you can also send to multiple email addresses, you'll just need to create and store a separate record for the customer."

When creating such as set of multiple records for a given recipient entity or group, can the records be linked somehow, for later reporting coherence?

Bought the product already, looks GREAT! Just wishing to get a few questions answered, while the conversation remains in full swing. :)

Michael R. As a former buyer (2010) of GroupMail v5 Personal, it turned out, I did not have much used it, but now I wanted to install it on an exchanged new computer.

Because I couldn't find my former installation-file, I tried to download it from my customer-account, but it seemed not be there any more to download. Since after 12 months (only?) upgrades are not free - and I hope updates are, I am wondering where I could download the current v5.x (or at least - if also updates are not free after 12 months any more - the newest version I am licensed for)?

Thanks a lot

Please send an email to our support team (support at group-mail dot com) with this information and include your license details. We'll then send you details on where to download - it might be Monday.

Thanks
Rob

Alexander Deliyannis Hi, a couple of questions:

1. In the version comparison at http://group-mail.com/ema...technical/ it says the free edition can send to a max of 500 recipients at a time, but in earlier responses to BdJ you've mentioned 100. What is the correct limit?

2. The direct send (no SMTP server required) sounds like an excellent feature, but I wonder whether this leads most mail filters to label the messages as spam.

Mitchell Kastner I purchased a license a few years ago. Is it less expensive for me to upgrade or just purchase a new license on this offer?

Robert Martin Hi Alexander,

Yes, when I replied above, you could only send to 100 recipients at a time. However, we increased the limit to 500 late last year. You can read more about this here: http://group-mail.com/htm...ed-footer/

Yes, the direct send mode is a good option in the case that your Email Provider has strict limitations on bulk sending, however there are some necessary steps to ensure that your direct connection will be accepted.

When you make a direct connection to the Recipient’s mail server, you are claiming to be a valid sender. In order to validate your computer as an acceptable sending source you should obtain a Static IP address from your ISP as well as an rDNS record.

If this sounds like an option you would like to pursue, our support team can provide more information specific to your sending.

Alexander Deliyannis Robert, thanks for the clear replies. GroupMail looks like a well thought-out product. One thing I would be interested in is using a shared address box with my team; I would be the only one using GroupMail and sending out the mailings, but they would be able to access and update the common address book. Is there a way to do this? I see that the Business and Marketing editions can connect to databases and integrate with Microsoft Outlook, but I don't know if these connections offer a way to share the address book.

Robert Martin Thanks Alexander.

With GroupMail you can share Groups between different users and store this data on a Network Drive.

GroupMail will need to be installed locally on each PC that it is being used on. Your team of course can use the free edition if you don't wish to purchase a license for all.

Thanks
Rob

CFGuy Hi- does this group email program allow for the design of group emails that contain photos and graphics that, when clicked, are "linked" to other websites, content and such? Does the "Personal" edition have this feature? Thanks. -Cfguy

Ben User Hi Robert, I see on the Bitsdujour page the GroupMail Business Edition is $235.26. However, on the actual checkout page it's $279.96.
Any reason for this discrepancy?

Robert Martin Hi Ben, the regular GroupMail Business Edition price is $349.95 US. You can see our pricing here : https://group-mail.com/gr...mail-fees/. There may be discrepancies because based on country specific taxes and/or exchange rates. Thanks

Ben User Except the price is before tax yet. Price with tax is $297.46.

I was considering the business edition, but when what you are offering here is more expensive than buying the personal edition first then upgrade to the business edition, and that the price on Bitsdujour's Get This Deal page and Choose Your Purchase page both differ from the checkout on your website, I think I'll start with a smaller investment first.

Because obviously, you can't even coordinate the price of your product.
