What are people saying about Guitar & Drum Trainer

Tom Colvin As a musician, this program looks awesome.  I've used several "slow downers" over the years and find the technique truly useful in learning intricate harmonica solos.  But this application adds a lot more.  I'm particularly intirgued by the vocals removal and the pitch shifting.  Maybe this program will prompt me to tackle SINGING the blues, at long last.

I'll be playing with this over the next few days.

Ryan Smyth Hello Tom, I'm the author of Guitar & Drum Trainer. If you have any questions, let me know. I've put lots of information about removing and filtering parts from songs at the web site and in the help file. A good place to start is the http://renegademinds.com/...fault.aspx page. The key is really in EQing. I posted an artilce on http://renegademinds.com/...fault.aspx  that might prove useful for you. The principles are the same for voice, though you might also want to check the article on http://renegademinds.com/...fault.aspx  as the Bass tutorial includes information on non-directional audio.  Cheers, Ryan

Ryan Smyth Hello Al,

That's odd as I always answer emails promptly. I never saw any email from you. In any event...

The answer is an emphatic NO. You do NOT need to buy again. I already sent you your license again. Please check your email. If you don't have it by now, then the email address I have for you is out of date.

I don't think that a crashed hard drive or lost license is a reason to have someone buy again. Just email me and you'll have it back in a day.

Oh... I should mention... I do require people to provide sufficient proof of who they are and that the license is theirs. That's very simple though. Your email address is proof enough. If you lose it, then basically, just let me know the address that you used when you got GDT.

Cheers,

Ryan

Louis H I started out not being all that interested in this app. Wasn't even going to download it and give it a trial run. I've been an "adequate" musician for more than 40 years - good enough o write the kind of songs I like to write - and didn't see a need for this app. Then I read Ryan's response to Tom and thought, what the hey, let me take a look.

Learned somethings right off the bat at the website and decided to give the app a quick look.

Love the expanded EQ options. Found the Pitch and Speed options to work much better than any similar programs I have tried in the past. (There may be some out there that work as well, if not better. I'm simply saying of the ones I have tried, this one adjusts such elements the best.)

While there has not been an update for a number of years, (as far as I can see) it is obvious, from the website and forums, that it is not abandon-ware and that Ryan remains committed to it and to his customers.

So why not. I CAN use it. Will use it. And the price is right today.

Thank you Ryan for being one of those vendors willing to interact with us consumers here at BitsDuJour! It was your willingness to do so that was the final straw that broke the back of my hesitancy to purchase your app. :)

Ryan Smyth Thanks Louis! I just emailed your license to you. The vast majority of people email me directly, but I'm trying to shift things away from that to get people talking to each other & seeing other people's ideas. That will help me put together things better. For that, I've just setup a Facebook page for GDT here: http://www.facebook.com/p...7751285417 So, if there are things you like, or don't like, or would like to see new things in GDT, drop me a note there. With things in one place, it will be simpler for everyone. I'm basically using the Facebook page because a lot of people are already on there, and that lets them use an existing login, rather than signing up at the Renegade Minds web site. That's still always an option though (the forums), as is email. 1 last thing... PLAY LOUD~! =D Cheers!

Stephane M Thanks dor mouse!
It was in 2007 but I will take it this is still the same regarding the license policy unless Ryan Smyth says otherwise.

Ryan Smyth Hello Stephane and dor mouse, The (non-)policy is the same. I try to give out all upgrades for free, but I can't make any promises on that. So far, all upgrades have been free, but I don't want to promise that then be forced to change and make a liar out of myself. Here's the link for my officially unofficial upgrade policy: http://renegademinds.com/...fault.aspx That basically says it all. My motivations behind it are purely so that I don't end up lying by accident. A lot of companies promise free upgrades, then are forced to switch. I don't want to be put in that position. One of the my main concerns there is patent licensing. There's simply no way to offer free upgrades when putting new technologies into GDT that require substantial fees per copy. For minor upgrades, they will always be free. As mentioned above, I've not released a new version for a while. I used to have several releases every year. I plan on getting back to that schedule and releasing more often. I hope that answers the question. Cheers!
