What are people saying about Hide My IP

Andy E I have two questions:

- Does using this software slow down surfing, downloading or uploading in any way?

- Is this a subscription service? What does "Premium High-Speed Service" mean?
Mar 23 2009 at 5:11am Copy Link
0
Brent Hather Web surfing speeds while using this software are determined by a number of things: your proximity to the IP proxy you select, your Internet connection speed, the time of day, the day of the week, the location and connection of the website you are connecting to, and the Internet connection speed of the IP proxy itself. As you are connecting through another computer before reaching the destination website while uploading/downloading, you will may notice a speed decrease, which will be determined by the factors mentioned above.

There are no monthly or yearly required subscription fees. The Premium High-Speed Service is an optional subscription (not required to use Hide My IP). It allows for more features, faster connection speeds, and access to more IP proxies.

Yes, if you have an old version of windows that does not have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you will need to download that from the microsoft website to run any program that uses the .NET framework. To find it, go to Google and type ".NET framework 2.0" and click on the first result. However, the Hide My IP installer should ask you automatically if you would like to download .NET framework.

I bought HMIP earlier during offer here and you as upgrade is for $19.95 USD, the price USD 12 would be definitely better for me. Peter Wallace Greetings,

I am confused - so are you saying that with this purchase we are guaranteed the next release as well or that there is an additional fee that would be needed to be able to get the 2010 version. I just would like to know for sure and clearly articulated. What are the costs for the "premium subscription" and what exactly does in entail? Is the product fully functional by itself or is this "subscription" required in order to use it properly. I apologize in advance for the hard questions - I feel that I have been burned by other softwares out there (I have NO experience with your company so I have not had any problems or concerns with you) with respect to new versions, updates, and subscriptions and the need for them. I wish that Bits Du Jour would have a basic checklist that every deal was forced to just say yes or no to:

1. Does this product require a subscription to function?
2. Does this product purchase include updates / upgrades / future versions? If so what specific limitations or allowances are there (i.e. is there a timeframe for example - for a year from purchase, or a specific version that updates stop at - for example you qualify for version 4.0 and all updates, and version 5.0 and all its updates only, etc...) with this purchase.
3. Do you offer discounts to future versions of the product after the free updates / upgrades are available (i.e. all existing customers qualify for a 50% discount for future upgrades on all products, etc..)

Please let me know - I know a lot of people will want to know and sales depend on the answers as well as customer satisfaction - customers will be happier to know exactly what they are getting with the purchase.

Regards,

Peter

Brent Hather John: You may have a setting in FireFox that causes JavaScript to not be compatible with our order page, we will investigate this issue to find out which settings of FireFox would cause your issue.

Mitch: we provide hundreds of IPs from all over the world. These IPs are either from public sources (open proxies) or leased from network providers (standard and premium IPs). You may toggle between the different types of IP addresses in the Hide My IP settings.

Peter: If you buy now and activate Hide My IP and you do not have an active subscription to the Premium service when version 2010 comes out, then you will need to pay an upgrade fee. Otherwise, the upgrade is free. For your question about the Premium service, the fee schedule is posted on our website as well as a detailed explanation of what the Premium service consists of. Hide My IP 2009 is compatible with Windows 7.

@ Genie au Travail
You can use it without a premium subscription. I'm using it and it works. Not very stable I must say. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. But it worked for me. But...:

@ My privacy tools inc.
I recently bought this and have mixed feelings about this software. Installation and using is easy I must say. You even explain to NOD32/Eset smart security users like me how to apply settings. But I have a problem with the last sentense in the product description: "Once you exit Hide My IP, all of your internet browser settings revert to normal!". Please explain me how this works. I have a piece of software called Simidude. I bought this on BDJ :-) This is a sort of Teamviewer software product, but I use it as a sync clipboard between on my home network. It uses internal addresses. When Hide My ip is installed Simidude does not work, because it says my network settings have changed and my communication port has allready been taken. Even if I disable all Hide my ip services and turn of the software it does not working because network settings stay changed. Only if I uninstall Hide mY ip the network settings are normal again.

2. What about privacy. Explain what Hide My IP stores about my web surfing. Your website says: "When Hide My IP runs, it sets your web browser proxy settings to show a fake IP from our IP database". How do I and other customers know who can see this information. Is it stored, logged or whatever? Make this a bit more clear to us!

3. Your website says: "Hide My IP uses only totally anonymous Elite Proxies". With a non premium service I sometimes experience unstable connections. When a connection is broken my real IP is shown even if I'm using your 'Elite proxie'?

4. When I used a bit torrent client, it was not hiding my IP, so I had a flase sense of privacy.

well, I have other things, but let's start with these. A few simple question which are helpfull (I hope) for BDJ customers.

Brent Hather @ Genie au Travail
To use the full version of Hide My IP, you do not need the premium service. The Premium and Gold service are mainly for users who need or prefer to select a specific available IP location.

@ Lupke Brother
When you turn on Hide My IP by clicking the Hide My IP button, Hide My IP will modify your Internet connection settings to hide your IP address. When you click Stop Hiding IP or close Hide My IP, your Internet settings return to how they were before you turned on Hide My IP.

Some programs such as Firewalls or Internet related programs may be using a component called LSP, which allows many Internet programs to function. It is very easy to write an application that will break or cause other software to break when using the LSP. When a conflict occurs such as this, we recommend contacting the author of Simidude and inform them of the incompatibility. We have contacted many app developers in the past and got them to release a patch for their program. Sometimes it is possible to fix the issue on our end by modifying the way Hide My IP uses the LSP.

2. Currently we have only shared IP addresses, meaning when you set an IP with Hide My IP, websites and other Internet devices will see only the fake IP that Hide My IP shows, not your real IP. Other customers may be using this IP at the same time, which does not create any problem, as it is just like using a WiFi hotspot, Internet cafe, or hotel Internet connection, where IPs are shared, but no other user on the network can access any data about your IP, as no content log files are kept or recorded.

3. One big advantage of using Hide My IP vs using a VPN: when you are using a fake IP (elite proxy) with Hide My IP, and that IP has temporary issues or breaks, you simply will not be able to access the Internet. However with a VPN, the connection between your Internet device (computer) and the VPN could break, exposing your real IP without you knowing it. With Hide My IP, this will never happen, as you will show your real IP only after turning Hide My IP off.

4. Hide My IP works for all Internet web browsers, and programs in the list of Premium Supported Programs, currently there are no Bit Torrent applications supported in the list.

Lupke Brother @ Brent Hather,

Thank you for your explaination. It's usefull.

I'm sure the developer of Simidude will contact you about the compatibility issue. I allready contacted him. He has great support and a good product and I'm sure he wants to solve this issue.

Hope there will be Bit Torrent support in the future!

Gunderic Hagen This software work only sometimes and then stops working.. I bought two licenses directly from them. The software is exceedingly unstable, until it didn't work anymore. i asked "Support" to fix this problems. I did everything they asked me and nothing worked...until they said there was nothing else they could do. i asked them to refund me the money....Their answer was that the time for refunds had passed...

I think this is a company staffed by a couple of guys luring clients with a very low price for a defective software.

I lost the value of the two licenses, but in the era of the internet, people and companies acting with unethical principles cannot freely act with impunity.

I have bought good software from BdJ and must say i was shocked to see this company offering their "product" here..

Hazen Hoffpauir So, if I'm reading this correctly, your real IP address is hidden even from your ISP even without the premium service, is that correct?
Aug 25 2011 at 2:26pm Copy Link

Brent Hather @ Hazen Hoffpauir
Not quite, your ISP will always know what IP they assign to you, just like your phone company, you can hide your caller ID so other people cant see your number, but your phone company still knows which number you pay for. What you can hide from your ISP with Hide My IP is your Internet traffic using the Encrypt My Connection feature (your ISP will not be able to see which sites you go to). The full version of Hide My IP can do this, without the need for the Premium Service.

Brian H Hi- how does this product compare to "Anonymizer"- the software offered at anonymizer.com? I have used their product before and get good surfing speeds, but it is rather pricey in comparison to this product. Thanks.
Aug 26 2011 at 12:45am Copy Link

Brent Hather @Brian H
One main difference of Anonymizer is it is a subscription based service (about $80/year), while with Hide My IP, no additional payments need to be made to continue using the software: Hide My IP can be used forever. In terms of features and usability, our service is far better hands down for a number of reasons. As soon as Hide My IP is installed, simply click the Hide My IP button and you are set - your IP is hidden and you can select from thousands of IPs around the world, something you can not do with Anonymizer. The last time we checked, Anonymizer allows 1 IP per day. Other features of our software Hide My IP allow the integration of some of our other products which allow cookies to be cleared of all or specific websites when your IP changes. Hide My IP also allows you to hide your IP in selected browsers or applications, while not others, allowing you to effectively have 2 IPs at the same time if you wish.

Brent Hather @ Patrick J.
Yes, that may be true for Hide My Ass, I have not personally tested that. But I have tested multiple other VPN services that privde an IP or hostname, username, and password to connect to the VPN. When the VPN "breaks" my IP was exposed. The Hide My Ass tool or Slid may do something in the background that prevents such breaking.

@ Dillon Geo
I recommend in the same browser window before you use the forum, check your IP on sites like www.ipf1.com or www.ipchicken.com. If those sites show you fake IP, then it is safe to post. If not, there may be an issue with whatever IP hiding software you are using. Another rare issue that could cause your real IP to show is if there is a cookie installed that recorded your original IP... no matter what IP you change to, when you post, the website reads the old cookie which recorded your original IP at the time the cookie was placed.

Patrick J. And keep in mind, every operator of a proxy or VPN-server technically can monitor and log everything you do - when and where you surf. It's also possible to monitor the data (like username, password, form data) you transfer if you visit a website via HTTP.

Browser *--encrypted--* Proxy / VPN-server *--UNencrypted--* webserver (http://...)

If, the connection is encrypted only between you and the proxy / VPN-server. The connections leaving the Proxy / VPN-server are unencrypted (and therefore can be monitored.)

We have never had a customer by the name Gunderic Hagen. There are other software programs with similar names such as Hide My IP Address and Hide The IP address, some of the copycats even copied parts of our website. We frequently get calls and E-mails from people who purchased other software with a similar name; they complain about how the software has problems and want a refund... but after we can't find the order, they realize they bought one of our competitor's software.

Hide My IP has undergone hundreds of major and minor releases and many hours have been spent on R&D to make it the quality product it is today. If Gunderic really is our customer, perhaps he bought one of the first releases that came out 5 years ago, where Hide My IP worked a bit differently back then.... we have fixed many known issues and compatibility problems since then.

Another thought: there are many rouge Internet security tools or spyware out there that break, corrupt, or conflict with other installed software, which also could have happened.

Gunderic is welcome to contact us if he likes so we can re-examine any issue he may have had.

Patrick J. It was generally spoken, things you should think about, and therefore I don't want to do advertising pro or const any special services or providers.

Install Hide My IP and run the both tests I've posted above (don't trust the most other "Show my IP" sites!)
If the both above can't detect your real IP while you're online with Hide My IP give it try.

MY personal opinion: the most well known VPN services cost money and maybe aren't the cheapest one. But regarding security (bypassing e.g.) they are much more secure. I never would use proxy software or proxy services.

And a nice side effect by a VPN: you can tunnel the firewall/proxy in your office ;-)

A question I can't answer: does Hide My IP also redirects DNS queries (through the proxy channel)? If not, your ISP or companies administration can still see what sites you're trying to reach.

To really use Hide My IP you additionally have to pay $7/month, nearly the same the costs of some VPN services.

(I'm currently using a VPN service)

Brent Hather @ Dillon Geo
At the time of purchase, you have access to over 1000 Standard IPs (plus 3 days for free of Premium which doubles your IPs). After one year, you will have access to the Basic IPs (not the trial), which give you more IPs than the trial, but less than Standard. There are currently about 100 Basic IPs. But the software will continue to work just fine in all other aspects. You can choose to renew the Standard service after one year to get access to all the 1000+ IPs again.

@ Martin Z
Did you reboot after installing? Is FireFox one of the selected browsers you checked in Hide My IP? You can try going to Advanced Settings and selecting "Enable Legacy Mode" which may fix the issue. We can do some testing with Fiddler to see if that is causing any conflict.

Martin User Thanks Brent - that encrypt my connection is what I use most when at a hotel or open Wifi. I feel that ability is easily worth the cost of the software, as most other non-VPN IP address hiding programs do not offer that feature.

Do pass on the Fiddle item to the developers please, it would be really nice to be able to use both a the same time.

SoftCollector Does not seem to work with Hulu - I chose a US IP, but still the site recognizes me as residing outside the US and would not let me watch a movie. Can this be fixed?

Not all IPs work with Hulu, so the solution is just change your IP until you get one that works. The first one I tested worked, the Los Angeles location, IP starts 184.*. I also recommend browsing hulu in the "in incognito" mode if your browser supports its for at least clear your cookies before visiting Hulu so they do not relate your previous session to the foreign IP.

K X Sounds like a useful program, but disappointed to hear from a post above that there are important details of the license, not listed in the policy here on Bits, and only revealed and after buying and installing the full version. That after 1 year, you will have access to 1/10 of the ISP and there's an annual fee for Standard service. How much is that? Does the vendor web site make a renewal price clear?

If you check the BTJ policy section for Hide My IP, it states "Free upgrades for minor versions, paid upgrade with no discounts to future versions." - which was the closest way we could indicate optional payments to renew the Standard service, there was no option to set a price. Yes, we clearly state the renewal policy on our website and knowledge base. The renewal price is $19.95.

@ The Presiding Emissary for Vibrant Living Ministries and Successors
Sorry I had missed your earlier comment. I have already mentioned about logs in my reply to Lupke Brother, no content log files are kept or recorded. As far as truly knowing, as an example, if Google or Facebook tells you they are not selling your private information or allowing governments access at will to your info, how can you really know, unless you work at such companies perhaps. I think this answer would apply to any company.

Yes, I assure you your https inquiries are secure.

For your question about "Encrypt My Connection", if the site you are using does not support HTTPS in any way, the Encrypt My Connection setting will allow you to access the site as if you were using HTTPS (at least between your computer and our proxy, as it is not possible to encrypt HTTPS to normal HTTP once the communication leaves any proxy server).

@ Hazen Hoffpauir
No need to pay for Unlock Code Protection if you can safe your license key in a safe place. Most of our competitors, if they offer that, charge about $6 for that same service. = )

@ SoftCollector
Have you tried the Los Angeles connection I used that worked for Hulu? If not, can you provide a list of IPs you tried? You are welcome to schedule a remote desktop session with our support if you like so they can get Hulu working for you.

VLM Thanks Brent for sweeping up, so to speak.

I do see that you keep no content log files. Here, I focus in on your choice of words, and I don't mean to be overly pedantic. But do you keep ANY log files (e.g., simple transaction or event logs), and if so, of what and for how long?

Regarding Google, Facebook, and the like, people have found their price lists (and Yahoo, and ....), so we KNOW they are lying, that's a given. These are the great privacy destroyers of our time, and it never ceases to amaze me how people, who seem knowledgeable and who claim to be very interested in privacy, keep using these companies' services and products. No one in his/her right mind should ever have a meaningfully used email account (gmail, Yahoo mail, etc.), or a toolbars, browser (e.g., Chrome), etc. from any of these companies. It's self-defeating WRT personal privacy in every conceivable way.

But I digress. Now I would ask ... since I asked while the deal was in progress and now the deal is expired ... is there any way to get on board? Also, does the one year start from the purchase date or from the installation/activation date? (For example, if I buy a license now, anticipating the purchase of a new / additional computer in a few months, does the year start from the time when I put the software on the new computer, or now?)

SoftCollector I had quite an interesting encounter with My Privacy Tools tonight.

1. I have been in contact with a Support representative of theirs, Aaron, for the last couple of days, discussing the purchase of another one of their software titles – Cookie Crumble.
2. The reason why I wanted to buy it was that within Hide My IP (which I own) there is the option to clear all cookies on IP change, but you need to buy Cookie Crumble.
3. I finally did buy it, but to my surprise it simply did not work along Hide My IP. I contacted Support and was advised to re-install HMIP.
4. I did that to no avail. I informed Support thereof.
5. Then an interesting email arrived:

Hello,

To use Cookie Crumble with Hide My IP you have to upgrade to the Premium service. It does not sync with the standard or basic service.

If you have any other questions please feel free to email us.

Best Regards,

Aaron D.
Level 1 Support
My Privacy Tools, Inc.

6. Neither our communication up to that point, nor their site (http://www.hide-my-ip.com...mble.shtml) suggests that after buying Cookie Crumble you will have to further pay them for a subscription Premium service to be able to use it!
7. CONCLUSION: They have contacted me and said their last email was wrong. Not it seems that the software version on their site (HMIP) was old and they have directed me to a newer version, which finally worked as advertised.

Although the problem was finally resolved, I am left with mixed feelings, as it seems that their support is not as knowledgeable about their own software at they must be!

Kind Regards,
SC

Brent Hather Hello,

We are sorry to hear you had a negative experience. We do our best to ensure all employees have excellent working knowledge of our products. If you or any customers ever have questions, problems, or concerns we will do out best to answer them.

To clarify the reason for your response:

Yesterday we informed our staff that customers will need to install the newest version of Hide My IP from our site for a proper sync with Cookie Crumble if they are having syncing issues. Cookie Crumble will work with all service levels (as always!).

I hope that clarifies and thank you for taking the time to leave honest feedback. All feedback, good or bad, helps us make a better product and give our customers a better experience. Let us know if you need anything now or in the future!

CJCotter Regardless of how good this program may be, it's been my experience in the past that some websites will not function for you unless they know your IP.

Brent Hather CJCotter: Websites will still see an IP when you visit them using Hide My IP - it just won't be yours, thus you would be protecting your true IP. With the ability to select from hundreds of proxy IP around the world, our users are usually able to find and use an IP that works for them. Hide My IP works wonderfully for users traveling and want to unblock sites like Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and news/radio streaming sites. In our 8 years of experience with Hide My IP, we rarely see websites that do not function correctly with our product enabled, and if or when this does happen, our users may provide us the the website URL so that we may test and improve our product compatibility.

peter schleifer I am interested but would like to have some info. A post from above:

K X Sounds like a useful program, but disappointed to hear from a post above that there are important details of the license, not listed in the policy here on Bits, and only revealed and after buying and installing the full version. That after 1 year, you will have access to 1/10 of the ISP and there's an annual fee for Standard service. How much is that? Does the vendor web site make a renewal price clear?
Aug 27 2011 at 8:04pm Copy Link

And in another post from above, it's stated that "updates" (this term might be different from "annual renewal fee") are 19.95 $.

Now how does this program work? From descriptions above, I infer that it has a database in which there are listed several hundreds of free VPNs and such (this database may be in the program, but it's more probable that it is on some server of the developer, and the program accesses that database on that server, in order to be more or less up-to-date, right?).

Then, your browser uses those VPNs and such, to which this program redirected your browser, right?

So there is continuous involvement of a server of the developer, not for passing thru your data, but for selecting the VPN and such, every time, and this means the developer has some continuous cost from our using the program, hence the need for an annual fee, right?

Of course, it may be subject to discussion if such an annual fee should be 20 bucks, in view of the fact that this program redirects you only to FEE VPNs and such, which tend to be not that reliable, and slow, whilst paid VPNs and such, whilst costing an annual fee of 40 to 100 $ for most of them, tend to be reliable and fast.

And is it right that without updating this program, and/or without paying the annual fee (btw, why is there a difference between the two? in this case, this does not seem to be very logical to me), will "lose" a big part of its VPN-and-such addresses for you?

As said, I'm interested, but all these questions both about function of this program and license issues should be clarified, before we make a buying decision.

Brent Hather peter schleifer: Thank you for the excellent questions. Most of your questions can be answered on our Upgrade and Renewal FAQ page:
http://www.hide-my-ip.com...efaq.shtml

As of Hide My IP 6.0 we are now allowing 90% of IP locations to be used even after the Standard service expires. There is no requirement to pay again and no required subscription payments to continue using Hide My IP.

Standard service includes updates from any previous version to the latest version for $19.95 - so updates or renewal are the same price, and effectively bundled in this one-off fee.

To answer your next question about how the program works - Hide My IP will provide you with IP addresses from private locations that we manage, and grants access based on the validity of your license, they are not from any free ip database. Correct, the optional annual upgrade/renewal fee pays for customer support by phone and live chat, maintenance of the application, software updates, IP locations, new platform compatibility, and new services we develop.

Let us know if you have any further questions, we will do our best to help.

Brent Hather Bruce: Neither of those competitors you mentioned appear to have a have a toll free support number for customers to call in with questions or assistance. Hide My IP offers live web-based chat and a toll free phone number for sales and support questions. CGVPN is quite a bit more expensive and they have mandatory subscriptions, you must pay at least monthly. Hide My IP has always been a one-time fee, no extra fees required to use the software. They also appear to rely solely on VPN, which is different in what Hide My IP currently offers, as VPN takes longer to make a connection, often around 20-30 seconds. Many users of Hide My IP like to change their IP location very quickly (around than 1 second to change IP/location), which is an advantage over VPN. Also, with VPN, that is system-wide, meaning all applications are forced to use the proxy VPN. With Hide My IP however, our users can choose which applications or web browsers to hide or change the IP in, this we are more configurable in that way. YF seems to limit speeds severely and requires you to register an account to use their service.

Gunderic Hagen On Aug 25 2011 I commented on this software (see old comments). It made surfing incredibly slow and never worked properly. They never refunded me the 2 licenses I bought.

At that time on this conversation board the Co rep said they never had a client with the name Gunderic Hagen. That is true. What this gentleman does not know is that this is the nick name I use in this board, not my real name.

I stand by everything I wrote then, and I will say no more, except that I have been using a proxy server which is considerably more expensive and works about 1,000 times better. In the end, you get what you pay for….
Did they improve the software since then? Do they have better work ethics?

Cary Adams @Brent Hather... Yes GMail has security tools in place which will identify possible account compromise. If my mail is accessed from the U.S, and then minutes later from Poland, this will set security flags off and I will be notified to confirm that I was the source of the variable IP.

I know a Indian student living in the U.S who gave his parents access to his GMail account so they could review attachments with him. He was locked out when IPs from both the U.S. and India attempted simultaneous access.

More so are some banking sites. I inadvertently got locked out of my online banking account when I inadvertently accessed it from a foreign IP.

For general web access, the ability to black/while list would be a cool option.

Separate question... how long do you retain logs of my usage. For example,. If I were to threaten the potentate of Ruschuandland, would I be traceable by authorities.

p3sto The Gold Standard for IP concealment has been Anonymizer,. One key (vital?) feature of Anonymizer is that the service ensures that there is no way your IP can be traced back to you via the connections to your "fake" or proxy IP. address when you surf the Net. In other words, Anonymizer destroys its records of the proxy IP addresses assigned to users, so there's no trace you ever used the service or what IP address(es) were ever assigned to you. How does Hide My IP work by comparison? What do you do with the database of user IP addresses logged into proxy servers?

Brent Hather Debra Keldrauk: Yes, you may check this page for a real time list of our available IP locations:
http://www.hide-my-ip.com...ions.shtml

Cary Adams: Yes, I would think the issues you mentioned would happen may happen with any product that allows you to change your IP address to another location. I may suggest using the same IP location and an IP location nearest you to prevent such issues. As for abuse issues, we do not log customer activity, although we do have automated anti abuse tools that try to detect and block abusive behavior.

Chris: As mentioned previously, Hide My IP is a lifetime license, there is no need to pay again. Also, it looks like Mask My IP does not have as many locations as we offer, they do not have a toll free support number, and some of their web graphics were copied from one of our older web site designs.

VLM: As for the Cookie Crumble feature you mentioned, that feature is not yet available.

Software Babe: Sure, but one downside about TOR is other TOR users can see your web traffic. And, but examining the raw content of your web traffic, it is sometimes possible to trace the traffic back to your identity.

pestoking: No, we do not maintain a database of customer records. We allow users to even pay anonymously with Bitcoin or money orders. We also accept orders using pre-paid gift cards. As for Anonymizer, you can read section 6 from this page: https://www.anonymizer.co...f_use.html

Patrick Leahy: You are correct, we encourage users to try the Hide My IP trial version first before ordering. Although that is our official refund policy, we may grant refund requests outside the 24 hour window of activation depending on the circumstances. Again, our best recommendation is try the trial version first before ordering to make sure Hide My IP will be able to do what you need.

Stuart Clarke Just to amplify some earlier points here for the benefit of everyone here, including the developer's own representative:

GMail will instantly detect the use of a not-the-usual IP address and start obstructing usage as a protective measure. It's actually an excellent precaution but can be one heck of a hassle if you're inadvertently in VPN mode. GMail will also flag up warnings server-side on your account(s) about 'possible unauthorized access' and display them for a month.

if you make the mistake of repeatedly and inadvertently using gmail at a time when your IP address isn't the one recognised by gmail, then your account(s) will be suspended pending a time-consuming investigatory process.

I'm not criticizing Google in any way (unusual for me) nor today's developer, rather confirming earlier posts on here about the situation based on my personal experiences with my own SecurityKiss encrypted VPN service.

Or do I need to purchase the Premium High-Speed Service for selection of IP locations?

QUESTiON: is my iP address hidden (or altered) regardless of my iSP type, for example I'm currently using a Cable internet connection - which to my knowledge, has a fixed iP address.

If it DOES work regardless of internet connection type - CABLE or ADSL/ADSL 2 or DiAL-UP, then I'll happily buy a License.

Of course I do not expect it will work correctly when used with a service like Hotspot Shield Elite

there is 14 hours to go until the second day of offer expires, so I do hope You'll be able to answer my question(s)

We also have a command line method to let Hide My IP set an IP per application or change the IP, please contact our support and we will send the details how to do this.

Disco79: We may consider this, however it is unlikely at this point as Hide My MAC Address has a smaller user base and is not as popular as Hide My IP.

Ely S.: Yes, you will be able to get an IP in South Africa with this Hide My IP promotion offered on BDJ. You do not need to purchase Premium to use a South Africa IP address.

J S: Yes, your IP will be hidden or changed regardless of your ISP type, weather you have a dynamic or static IP, if you are on a WiFi hotspot or cable connection, Hide My IP will change your IP in all such cases. Using more than one product to hide your IP address at a time is possible, but not recommended. In the case you are running the competitor product you mentioned in conjunction with Hide My IP at the same time, websites should see the Hide My IP address instead, as Hide My IP works "on top" of VPN products such as HSS.

Joe Smart: the CNET reviews are for the old version of Hide My IP 5, we have only updated to version 6.0 on CNET last week as Hide My IP 6.0 has only recently been released.

David Coleman: Hide My IP customers with the Premium Service enabled may choose their IP location from the drop-down list. Other features include using the same IP each time Hide My IP runs, and setting Hide My IP to hide/change the IP for all applications running on the system (similar to VPN). Also, Premium Service subscribers are given a higher surfing speed priority. Premium users are also always entitled to free upgrades of their license to the most recent edition of Hide My IP.

CJCotter Three issues: 1) Even though you close down HideMyIP in the clock tray, I discovered that it is still running in the background, impacting my browsing habits. Check out Windows Task Manager to verify this. Close should mean "all close". 2) I was Amazon. When I switched to another page, HideMyIP logged me out of my account, because Amazon saw me as another IP. Is there a setting to fix this? 3) Is my IP being given out to someone else to surf anonymously?

John Oliver One FREE alternative is the browser ADD-IN from
hola.org
.
Another, I feel better service, is this LIFETIME subscription to a
VPN ( Virtual Private Network ) service for US$39 ( about £26.10 ).
The LIFETIME is actually 100 years and 1 month!!
You can use it on up to 5 devices ( PCs, MACs and ANDROID devices ).
It works at a higher level than your browsers and makes ALL software work through another I.P. address. :-)
See here for details.
Available for another 4 days.

Brent Hather _*_: If you select money order, just enter your E-mail, and on the next page you will see the total price if you include Unlock Code Protection "Order Total: $15.44"

Unlock Code Protection is like backup insurance, if you loose any of your license keys, misplaced access to the product, we will send them again to you for free.

John Oliver: Hola is considered to be a trojan/spyware by many sites, as they allow other users to use your Internet connection, which can cause harm to you if others send spam, download illegal files, or hack networks without you knowing using your IP address. Hola is more expensive than Hide My IP.

Techtoysavvy I bought 2 of these last time. Useless and expensive.
I could not switch countries and use all the advertised locations.
My guess is that you need to pay for premium service before this is any good.

I did buy the offer mentioned by John above via BDJ. Inexpensive and works like a charm. Set country as needed. Good performance VPN.

Brent Hather Techtoysavvy: we have a free trial, you are welcome to test all features, including Premium before purchase. If there is anything specific we can do to help Hide My IP become more useful for you, please let us know. The offer John mentioned is still more expensive and works like a unsecure TOR exit relay, allowing other users to not just view which sites you access, but other Internet traffic of running background web applications. We at Hide My IP however, maintain a privately managed secure network where no other users can monitor your Internet traffic. Hide My IP licenses may be used on Windows, Mac, and Android devices with the same license key.

Loco Driver Just did an internet search "Hide My ID" reviews. Not easy because the phrase doesn't include any unique words, so it brings up dozens of other products too.

Some of the sites have a review from several previous years - the interesting thing is that over several versions the editor and user reviews are consistently 4 out of 5 or higher. The only point of confusion that gave low score reviews involved a "Free" version, and several people mentioned a "Premium" version.

Brent - can you address the issue based on what I saw - (e.g., What is the "Premium" version?)

Techtoysavvy To be fair. The program works.
You can't select a non-US location without a premium subscription.
I just checked this on my copy of HideMyIP.
If this is not the case .... Brent should correct me.
I have not tested speed/bandwidth of the basic subscription.
-- I should check if video will work
Apr 6 2015 at 2:12pm Copy Link

Brent Hather Techtoysavvy: Yes, you may select any non-US locations without Premium. I checked just now, and during my test I first got a US location, then my IP changed to United Kingdom on the second change, then the third change I got Australia, and the forth try I got a Canada IP.

Loco Driver: The "Premium" service is completely optional and allows users to select a specific location directly from the locations list. The Premium service also allows for application-specific IPs to be used, for example if you only want to change your IP in Chrome but not Firefox, that is possible with the Premium Service.

We always welcome any feedback, over the years we always listen to our users and make our best effort to meet the needs of our customers.

Optometrist User Well since I see that this is completely different than the VPN services, and I can see the benefits, I would like to know more obviously.
Are there currently ways for anyone to circumvent this & find out our real IP?
How do we truly know we are protected from anyone knowing the actual IP, could someone dig really hard & find it out?
What protections are in place?
Does it literally just only mask your IP with one that isn't yours? Why would we pay for that? Couldn't I technically do this myself?
Curious to know more...
Apr 7 2015 at 1:04am Copy Link

Brent Hather The User: Yes, your purchased Hide My IP license will work on the Windows, Mac, and Android versions of our software.

Optometrist User: Yes, there are benefits of using Hide My IP rather than traditional VPN services, where a paid subscription is required to their service. Hide My IP is one of the few tools allowing you to mask your IP for lifetime use, for a one time fee. There is a feature in Hide My IP allowing users to check and confirm the IP is hidden, it opens a page to www.hide-my-ip.com/ip. When Hide My IP is turned on, your real IP is hidden and protected. Yes, our product masks your real IP, allowing to you unblock websites, remain anonymous, or prevent your ISP from seeing which websites you go to. This is not technically possible to do yourself, as you would need to use another service or remote computer that provides an alternate IP.

SoftCollector 1. I bought a license a few years back, but Hide My IP failed to hide my location on www.hulu.com and other sites where I tried using it, so it ultimately became useless to me.
2. Also, they are not very responsive if you contact them for help.
3. They have come up with several small products and when things don't work for you like they are supposed to, they try to sell you the other products: Cookie Crumble, etc. I did buy Cookie Crumble and sites were still able to track my location.
4. I just didn't get a very good feeling about any of this, so I never renewed my subscription.

John User I bought this because I was having some problems with PIA not playing well with a lot of websites. I thought at this price, what the heck. Unfortunately, after trying numerous locations I have found that:

1. My actual IP address is only hidden about 50% of the time.

2. 100% of the time I suffer a big drop in speed - I'm talking a download speed of 75mps to less than 5mps. Upload also bad.

Worth a try, but I am back to PIA and the problems with that VPN

Brent Hather John User: Hide My IP will always hide your IP, however some sites may use tracking cookies to see your location by tracking and saving your location data with cookies before you install or use software like Hide My IP. If you don't clear your cookies for those sites when using Hide My IP, such sites may be able to see your previous IP or location. Properly clearing your cookies will solve the issue. When using a proxy or VPN, your connection will go through extra routers between your device and the destination website or connection. You can optimize your speed by selecting an IP location nearest to your real location. We have currently more than 70 locations to choose from world-wide, allowing our users to choose the best location for their needs.

We want to thank all our customers and users for another great promotion on BitsDuJour and hope to have another promotion for the new version Hide My IP 7 later this year.

Toni User It's not clear to me what the difference is between the basic service and Premium except that Premium covers multiple devices and is by subscription. What does Premium do that basic service does not do that makes it worth continuing subscription cost? Can't really tell by the website but maybe I am missing something. If the only difference is to cover multiple computers, it would make more sense to buy basic service for each computer, so for example three computers would be about $36 one-time charge, but with Premium that amount would cover only one-year subscription. What am I missing?

wts Hello! Any deal today on Lifetime Premium? Thanks.

@Toni User: "Premium High-Speed Service" is a VPN and offers other advantages:
https://www.hide-my-ip.com/premium.shtml
Jul 3 2016 at 1:45pm Copy Link
0
Brent Hather wts: Lifetime Premium is not included with this offer, Premium service allows up to 5 devices to be used per license simultaneously and access to all IP locations.

Bxxxx Oxxxx: most locations are available with the lifetime license, no Premium is needed. The ability to select your specific location is part of the Premium service - if you only want to hide your IP or do not mind changing your IP until your desired location is applied, then you do not need the Premium service. It is likely that the location you are trying to select is available to you even without Premium service, you can select that location by changing your IP until your desired location comes up on the rotation.

Toni User: In addition to the explanation above, Premium service will give full access to all IP locations, allow 5 devices per license, offers software version protection for current subscribers, and allows all Premium features which are different for each OS (on the Windows client you can select specific applications to hide your IP with, and on both the Windows and Mac clients, you can choose to always use the same IP location).

p3sto Brent Hather. Do you specifically know or have tested uTorrent with your product? UTorrent is an app, not a browser.

Normally you have to have a VPN or subscribe to a proxy server service to mask your IP while using uTorrent. That's a monthly or annual subscription fee. If this product can do it for a flat fee, great. Hard to believe, so will test with the trial version. Thanks.

Dylan Stay FAR away from this company!
If you see the pic above is clearly says Premium High Speed Service and the raio button is ON.
After your purchase, and they don't tell you this in the offer, it changes to STANDARD service after 30 days.
Standard service is much slower and you cannot choose a location.
You can buy a number of ip hiding programs for under $40 that offer lifetime updates and better speeds.
So tell me. Do you see anything in this offer that says AFTER you pay for the program it reverts to Standard service from Premium service.

Michael User This program is very sensitive to what settings you use, so don´t think you´re clear of trouble just like that !
The program also make a lot of trouble when you use your email program.
Another thing is... how can I know for sure the program really do hide my IP ?
Right ! I can´t !
Feb 11 2018 at 8:29am Copy Link
0
Brent Hather @Michael - It sounds like you may be referring to the DNS Protection setting. Let me explain a little more how it works. Websites and apps can find your IP and location from your normal IP address or by using a trick to get your IP using a DNS IP leak.

When running Hide My IP with DNS Protection turned on, you are protected both ways - just like any proxy or VPN from your real IP being exposed and you are also protected from your IP leaking via the DNS leak technique. A small downside of the DNS Protection setting is that sometimes it does not play nice with some E-mail clients, depending on the E-mail connection settings.

When using Hide My IP, you can check if it is working by using any IP check site or by going to our homepage or IP check page to verify your IP:
https://www.hide-my-ip.com/ip

For maximum protection, Hide My IP sets the DNS Protection setting on by default. We encourage our users to play with the connection settings to achieve optimal user experience.

Stefan Hauber I suppose, there is no way to hide(=change) the IP, without a significantly loss of bandwith, right? Concerning this matter, would you recommend to use an ip-location, which is locally near the user's home (or is this nearly not relevant)?
Aug 15 2018 at 10:33pm Copy Link
0
Brent Hather @Stefan Hauber - hiding/changing your IP does not necessarily significantly decrease your Internet speed or bandwidth. There are a few factors involved that could impact speed: Your distance from the IP location you have chosen, for example if you choose an IP in Perth, Australia, but are located in New York, then all your traffic will need to go through the Perth VPN location before reaching you. If you choose a New York IP location and you are also located in New York, then any speed impact would likely be not noticeable. The best advise we can give in this matter is to try a few IP locations to see which works best for you and start first with locations nearest to you.

Stefan Hauber Thanks for the former explanation and yet another question:

Is it possible (or would it make sense) to define more than one IP location, e.g. that I want my data to be sent from my current location to a second, third, ... one, which finally corresponds with the target?
Aug 16 2018 at 9:53am Copy Link

Brent Hather @Stefan Hauber - Yes that is possible with Hide My IP and called a proxy chain. To do this with Hide My IP on Windows, you can run Hide My IP as normal and connect to any location you want, then either use the Hide My IP Chrome or Firefox extension to select another IP location. This would create a double proxy chain. You can add a third chained location by setting a DNS Proxy as well, more info at our Smart DNS Proxy page:
