Virus Scan for i-DeClone

nikos bozinis this is a new tool by ZABKAT, the makers of xplorer² file manager

Pete User Recommended! Unsolicited review. I've used many similar tools but i-DeClone has a feature to find "similar" files, so I can find slightly edited or different files, pictures, videos -- then preview and delete what I don't need. A real time-saver and disk-space saver.

Chris I tried to purchase and received a text from my bank saying it was authorized but no email with key to register.

I used another email and received the key. I hope I'm not charged twice.

Mustang Is there a limit on the trial for the size of the folder or size of files? Worked fine testing photo and music folders but program keeps crashing searching any video folders.

nikos bozinis if it is crashing, it isn't a problem with the trial version. What kind of scan are you doing for videos? Use HELP > RELIABILITY menu to send me the crash information file and I will have a look

MK I like this - I have gigabytes of work files accumulated over decades, and many are copied across drives and folders. This allows me to delete the copies but also gives the option to replace them with a link to the one remaining file, so I can still have traceability and open the linked file in the original folders. Will purchase.

MK Well - that was a waste of £15.29.
Paid and unlocked the full version, and on my plain, non-system, data drive it says access is denied, there is a problem creating the links, and "It is likely that all remaining items will have the same problem. Shall we quit the operation now?"
And so 2.14GB of duplicates are still there.

MK Requested refund
- if I use VoidTools' Everything, I can see the duplicates are still there, even though i-DeClone reports changes have been made, and doesn't show any duplicates.
- if I compare file-by-file with my backup drive, I can see nothing has changed, duplicates have not been removed, and no links have been made to replace removed files (which have not been removed).

Gary Mugford Admittedly, the reason I'm here is a prior good relationship with Nikos at Zabkat, prompting me to buy the product because I no longer have an excuse NOT to buy it. It's professionally made and does the task it assigns itself. Do I REALLLLLY NEED a duplicate stripper??? I have more space than I know what to do with. Despite being fast for it's class, I'm old and usually resent ANY time lost to things like computer-cleaning. But I trust Nikos, he's not all that far from the atrocities being committed to his East. So, why not kick a few bucks his way.

MK, as far as your issues, emptying the recycle bin is a logical next step, as Everything DOES INDEX the recycle bin within it's list. In everything, copy the path where you are finding duplicates assigned to the gallows and survived i-DeClone's chops, That will help Nikos immensely. If the file[s] remain in folders one would not think of as recycle bin folders (such as C:\data\... and c:\work\...) well then something IS awry.

Okay Nikos ... I've been broken down, Here's your Canadian bucks. I DO have an issue with xplorer2 and crash_handler, but that's a story for another web page. GM

nikos bozinis @MK it will be easier to get support if you use the contact email from within the program. I am not sure what your situation is, creating links works, and it looks like you managed to do it in the end (?). Some programs are not smart enough to realize that a file is a LINK, and think that it takes up space, whereas it certainly doesn't!

MK Should follow-up: my issue was a combination of not knowing about hardlinks, etc., and an issue with read-only files which the developer has since resolved in an update. So all good.

Kat D Have been using xplorer² for years and love it. Just gave this a trial and it does not disappoint!

jckinswo I downloaded and installed the trial. Works fine. I'm going to purchase and give it a shot (not been happy w/others over the years for a very large project) even though I'm not quite positive yet that the options are flexible enough to do what I need. Still, it's a great price for what you get.

nikos bozinis if you read the documentation (or watch the videos) you will find that declone is quite flexible both in scanning and working with duplicates, using the simple filtering tools

denis morrow I tried trial on lot of YouTube videos. I didn't realise I had so many duplicate music videos. Tweaking the percentages down to 60% I was able to sort out (well iDeClone was able to sort out) the low resolution videos from the higher ones. I managed to save almost 10gb space altogether and still to wade thru family albums. I was surprised how fast it was to search thru the videos as I had a ton of them.

Before I buy, can you tell me if I can transfer to another PC when this 8 or 9 year old laptop croaks it. Its not eligible for W11, it used to be W7 upgraded to W10. The FINE PRINT doesn't say

MK i-DeClone is licensed per user, not per computer. So if you are the only user, one license key is enough for all your personal computers. You only need to worry about extra seats if there are more people using the program.

Mike B @denis morrow:

According to the license FAQ you can install on all PCs for your use (license is per user):

From https://www.zabkat.com/declone/faq.htm

¦ How many licenses (seats) do I need?

i-DeClone is licensed per user, not per computer. So if you are the only user, one license key is enough for all your personal computers. You only need to worry about extra seats if there are more people using the program.

denis morrow MK and Mike B thanks for the info. A very good dealmaker for me.

There's a lot of duplicate finders about. Some with thumbnails and some without (deleting duplicates blindly is mad IMO), but this one actually lets you resize the thumbnails (better and quicker comparison) and yet at same lets you preview those images that look very similar but subtle differences. I would prefer the Preview screen to be moveable to righthand side of the screen rather than at the bottom to maximise viewing options. Otherwise I find this a fast and yet safe way to clean up duplicates..

nikos bozinis @denis you can drag-drop the preview pane to the side if you like, just drag its titlebar. For 2-way comparison select 2 pics and press ALT+2 keys (or use the equivalent context menu command)

nikos bozinis by coincidence I see there's another duplicate files program on offer today. The advantage of i-DeClone is that it can find SIMILAR files (eg photos, music, videos etc) whereas the other program (and many like it) can only find digitally 100% identical files only

styrobrain As of this writing, "free lifetime upgrades assurance" is available at checkout on the product website only, not here. (I understand the assurance means you get future updates for free, but the assurance itself is the product price again.)

For Xplorer2 I eventually bought it and am glad I did. Not sure if it is equally warranted for i-DeClone. And YMMV. Just in case someone cares.

John User I had been using several other programs that identify and help me delete duplicates, but they were hit or miss literally. As a longtime user of Xplorer 2 when I saw this program offered here, I had to give it a try. I was impressed with the features and results. I have to spend more time with the exhaustive help file to see all it has to offer, but I purchased the registered version just now at a very reasonable price. I can uninstall those other programs I was using now.

RS While I cannot speak to the performance of this software, I can recommend without reservation an alternative, Duplicate Cleaner 5, which offers many more options and functionality than this tool, including various video modes (including audio track analysis). It's been offered on BDJ in the past, though not recently.

It is interesting to note that the comparative software review referenced in the description does not look at Duplicate Cleaner, which I have found to be the very best and most versatile de-duplication tool available, after having used several of the others the review addresses. So you might want to take a look before investing in the product of your choice.

styrobrain Ok, Nikos, but how does one do that (buying lifetime cover later, that is)? Mustang had the same question roughly a year ago, and I can't find an answer. From how I understand your website, one can buy it only together with a license.
