The vendor's website has no details about who and where they are but I thought I'd try it out. Locking one of my own PDFs with a simple password ("D1R2"), which I have never used before or ever will again, the program just failed. If anyone has a better experience, please do report it here. If something seems to be too good to be true ...

I do not understand what your have said. If you have to know the password to unlock the pdf, then what function does this software serve. The lead indicates that the whole purpose of this software is to be able to unlock a pdf, even though the password for it is unknown.

Jon Spain Yes, I've been struggling with the description. Either it can unlock a file (really useful if it could be done) or it can't. The initial description seems, at least to HJB and myself, to state "yes" whereas the vendor's reply says "not"; it can't be both! BdJ are asked to consider and explain their listing policy for this software.

Lito There are 2 types of passwords for PDF files.

Owner password, is the one that can limit editing, printing, copying, extracting pages, comments, signing, etc... but it does NOT limit the ability to read the pdf file.

User password is the one that can lock down the pdf file so that it can't even be read without putting in the password.

So if I understand correctly, as long as you can open the pdf without a password and read it normally this can unlock the so called owner password and save you a pdf file you can edit. What it can't do is remove a password that is required to even view the pdf file that is the user password.

So if @Jon Spain locked his pdf with a user password, meaning you can't read it without entering the password then this program won't work to unlock it. If on the other hand he made a owner password and said you can't edit this pdf file, this program can unlock the file and save a copy that can edit the file.
