What are people saying about Iconico Web Tools A La Carte

Stephane M Hello,

Is WebTools Pro still working with IE only or can we now use it with FireFox?

Thanks.

Constantin Florea @ Stephane

WebTools Pro works only with IE.

Constantin Florea Just clarifying the situation:

If you want to buy more than one product then you would have to buy each product separately because each product has an associated buy now link and most importantly: an associated coupon code. We had to use different coupon codes for each product because of the small differences in percentage discounts. Since our shopping cart allows only one coupon code at a time this is the reason why you will be able to buy one discounted product at a time.

Ralph Bressler WHY does WebTools only work with IE? That kills the deal for me but I tried the program anyway. and found the whole process too frustrating! So many of the tools are disabled it is hard to evaluate the program. When I went to the website to get more information on the various tools, clicking on the tools simply reloaded the main index page for the program. The page said that a detailed explanation with screenshots would show up! For theses reasons I'll have to pass on what looks like a good idea packed with multiple flaws.

Richard Andersen I'm trying out the HTMLLabel C# HTML editor demo, but can't get it to work properly in VS2008.

It installs fine and the control is visible in the Toolbox, and the demo project is converted with no errors when I open it, but I get errors when I try to run it. Isn't the demo supposed to work right out of the box?

BTW, all the pictures are missing on the Color Pro page...

Hi Richard, We're looking at the VB.NET issue with the HTMLLabel, we have confirmed that there is a problem with VS2008. The original demo works in VS2002, but appears to have compile issues after that.

Sorry about the tardiness, we party hard =)

Richard Andersen OK, thanks, better late than never... ;-)

I hope the problem is with the demo and not the ocx, for I actually bought it yesterday.

Eustace Phenackertiban Hmm... not sure why my first comment never showed up. I hope that it doesn't mean that negative comments are being eliminated. Let's find out...

WebTools Pro does not work with Win7 x64 and IE10, in any available document mode. I purchased it first back in 2004, for use with IE 5.5 and 6.0, and it worked fine. This was prior to Firefox/Firebug, and there was nothing comparable, period. So, I downloaded the trial from the link above, installed it, and tried it out, using my valid paid serial number from my original purchase..

Unfortunately, though it started up OK, attempting to invoke any of its functions caused it to simply lock up, to the point that Task Manager had to be used to shut it down. Amazingly, the third trial not only locked up the program, but when I tried to invoke it from the Start menu the third time, it also locked up Windows almost completely, freezing the Start menu open and refusing to respond almost anywhere..

I was able to invoke Task Manager using the old faithful Ctrl-Alt-Delete key combo, and to start Ashampoo Snap 6 to screen capture (using its top-of-screen toolbar), but anywhere else the mouse was simply an hourglass cursor. I was able to save the video, but had to actually use the power button to cold shutdown the machine!! Nothing else would work.

The video is available here for anyone who wants to view it: https://vimeo.com/83111165 The audio isn't great, but the video illustrates the problem. I sincerely hope that this comment, like my last one, doesn't go the way of the winds. There are clearly serious issues with WebTools Pro, and I don't think that it should be sold at any price until it has been tested with modern OSes and browsers, and the issues resolved.

Niels Erik Karkov I wrote the Iconico telling that Web Tools Pro only Worked partly with my Explorer 11, for instance when activating images or css it said that there was no connection with Explorer. I got a quick answer from Iconico but it was not much of a help, and made me Wonder what has happened to the Company which for years have provided and excellent service.
Here, folks, i the quotation from Iconico: "I have just logged it in our bug list for Webtools Pro, unfortunately I do not know how much it will take until we can fix it."
Best wishes
Niels

Eustace Phenackertiban Niels, it appears that nothing has been done with it since the original development work back in 2004 or so. When I purchased it then, it was unparalleled, offering insight into every aspect of a page when displayed in IE (the 1st class browser at the time, with 90%+ share), But, it is still in version 1.0(??), and from what I can see, the user interface hasn't changed at all in the last ten years. Given the vast changes in IE between IE6 and now, I would be amazed that the hooks into IE that once worked still would be effective. My own experience is that not only is the app itself ineffective, it has fatal errors that cause the entire OS to lock up under some circumstances.

I would truly like to see this app updated to current relevance, so that IE would once again have page analysis capability to rival Firefox/Firebug, or even Chrome's less-capable dev tools. Unfortunately, this ten-year-old technology isn't it.
