Jon Spain On the "$32 upgrade", I suspect that means that will buy the right to upgrade to a future version at a favourable price but it would be nice if the developer (or BdJ) could explain it fully whiler the deal is still open, please.

Hawkeye I have a few questions.

What is the difference between the Pro and the free version? They look the same. There is no reference to the limitation of the free version.

Why would Bitsdujoir decide on your upgrade price, unless you guys are part of the same company? Is that really correct?

That's a pretty bold statement, since Terabyte Unlimited and Paragon Software, just to name a couple, have rock solid programs that do checks before and after to insure no data loss and they both have more useful features.

I would be very cautious of spanning free space across drives, especially if you use additional third party utilities. How will this be affected by backup programs when backing up individual drives or is the spanned drive a new virtual drive? I would highly recommend backing up your data before trying anything that effects two drives, like this.

Looking forward to some some answers.

Hawkeye It would be a little more clearer, if they had a matrix to show the difference between all three versions, The Pro Free, Pro and the Freeware version, which has no cost. I'm curious, what are the limitations of the freeware version? On the freeware page, it appears to have the same features as the Pro, showing no advantage to purchasing the Pro version.

Chris OK, thanks, I purchased it, but the BDJ email says:

You must install/register the software within 2 days, and cannot do so afterwards. Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment. Installing a new version may overwrite the existing version and invalidate your license key.

I understand that with the free version, but why the paid version?

Also, I got the free version while I waited for a reply and installed it with the serial key. How do I change the key, or do I need to change it from the free key to the paid key?

Chris I received an email from BDJ after I purchased the $19 deal. I noticed it is a shorter key. The installer says: resizer-pro-October2014 (both versions have same name)

I installed that version and it uninstalled the free version first but is still registered. Since I have paid for it now and don't know how to change the key, what happens?

Also, how do I lose the paid software? And since I paid shouldn't I already have the full version?

How come you say, under 'Features' "Enjoy support for all brands of hard disk up to 2TB in size", when on Jan 6th 2014 you mentioned 16TB disk support?

Can you confirm because 2TB hard drives are rather small now-days, and anyone of us with larger hard drives may be heading for trouble if we try to use this software - understanding, of course, your kind offer of this free software.

With the free version of IM-Magic the upgrades have to be paid for.

Pity no one got back on my question. I would have been interested in buying if I'd got a favourable answer.

Your question about the maximum size of the drives is pretty important, so it will be interesting to see what they say about that -- if, indeed they do.

Peter User To Bits du Jour:: Perhaps you could contact the developers. There are a number of important questions here that have received no response, which does not bode well for questions users may later have concerning support.

Maybe they would extend this offer for another day, to give themselves a chance to reply to these important questions.

Lee Price Time limit to install? Bah!

I love this site and have been coming here for a long time; however, I for one am growing weary over this creeping trend on numerous giveaway sites requiring you to install a free giveaway within a certain time frame.

A free giveaway should be just that with none of this time limited nonsense, particularly if offers no updates or support. This model was the norm for years and it really needs to go back to that!

Eric Swank About this statement, "Featuring support for all brands of hard drives up to 2TB in size", is that a mistake or there is no support on drives over 2TB because that would be a deal breaker for sure. Believe it or not pc users with larger drives may want to re-size their partitions also...

there a few things that are not clear or a bit ambiguous. The title of this item is
"IM-Magic Partition Resizer Pro" - but then it offers an upgrade to
"IM-Magic Partition Resizer Pro free upgrade" - ? so.... is the version being offered here for free the Pro version or not ?

And, if it is, why should someone take up the offer of the "IM-Magic Partition Resizer Pro free upgrade" and have to pay $19 ?
This is really not explained well. So, is the version being offered free here an older non current or about to be non current version ? Or is it that the paid for version of the item with exactly the same name is a newer version ? like version 2 or something ?

Or is what you actually get when you pay the $19 lifetime upgrades ?

To add to the reason why I am wanting to clarify this is that Andrew Wright, when responding to Eric Swank, provides a link to the specs for the program, but when you follow that link, it takes you to a page titled
"IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free Edition Tech Specs" ???

So, is it the current Pro or Free version being offered for free here ? Or is it an old version or a version about to be replaced by a new version ?

Mark User It does work with windows 10 and as far as i can see it works flawlessly. i managed to repartition my 2 terabyte Hard Drive into 2 partions so i can use the other half for backing up purposes before that i was using vhds that were dynamic

Johno I return to my previous questions, but will simplify. Andrey User thanks for your response (at least you responded! ty.) but it doesnt answer my questions. Andrey the statement you have pasted most probably only applies (though this is not clear hence i have a question about this) to the free version.

Questions still unanswered:-

1/. It is STILL not clear what version is being offered as a free item and what version (ie. version 1, version 2 ?) a customer will get if they pay for the 'Upgrade'.
By this i mean that it should be easy and clear for a customer to understand what version of a product they are purchasing. This only makes good marketing sense. You need to define that its version 1 or the free version or the pro version, and in this case where you are offering a Pro version for free and than a paid upgrade to a PRO version, the upgrade should be better than the free one ?? so it needs to be clear that its an upgrade ??!

2/. What, specifically, does the customer get if they pay the $19 for the 'Upgrade' ?
Do they get:-
A:- a full license to the current full version with future version upgrades needing to be paid for ?
B:- a full license to the current full version with lifetime upgrades ?

3/. why, is the spec sheet for the FREE version is exactly the same as the PAID version ?? (ref. my previous comments where Andrew Wright provided a link to the specs for the program, which went to a list of specs for the FREE version). If the paid for version has no benefits over the free version why would one pay for it ??

Bill Morgan @ Johno: Reading the Fine Print and looking at the software on the company's website, what you are getting for free is the Pro version of the software but with no free upgrades and it must be installed/registered within 2 days of downloading it. The company also has a freeware version of the software but it does not seem that that is what is being offered here and that version does not have all of the same features as the Pro version. As an alternative, for $19 (instead of $49.99 regular price) you get the same Pro version of the software with free future upgrades and probably without the 2-day installation/registration requirement.

Rick Is the $49.99 MSRP for software to resize a partition an error? I did attempt to identify information to justify the MSRP but I could only identify reference to “Advanced Repartitioning Technology” without explanation.

In comparison, the free versions of MiniTool Partition Wizard, EaseUS Partition Master, Paragon Partition Manager, GParted and Active Partition Manager, to name a few, appear to offer many more features at no cost. Partitions may also be resized within Windows without error or difficulty.

In comparison to retail software, the top rated Partition Manager 15 Home is $39.95 MSRP and the full features Hard Disk Manager 15 Suite is $49.95 MSRP.

Oh and don't forget AOMEI Standard .

They all provide a method to create a bootable PE and/or Linux disk

With IM Magic there is only a one line referene,
(WinPE/Portable Edition supported)
but no actual info is provided on the webpages ...
At last I couldn't find it nor is it present in this free version
Neither - PE nor Portable install nor reference to it

I also couldn't find a comparison table with the various versions

Mind you, that same question was evaded/avoided when asked by previous posters.

While I'm thankful for the offers - I've installed and registered this free version
there are things missing and it can't do anymore than other companies free versions that actually have more features.

One more thing bothered me - The use of Partition Magic on the webpages.
Not only is it kinda lame to use the name of another product - but PM is/was a Registered and patented name originally from PowerQuest and later Symantec

So ,why all the references to it?

and I find it misleading and dishonest, but at least they provide more features. LOL

I got this offer on another website, but it was v3.0.0.
This is v3.1.0.
The installer uninstalled the previous version, then it installed the new version.
I wasn't able to insert the new license key and the software doesn't ask it.

Hence my question is: could it have picked up the "old" (previous) license key?

I scanned their installer with SAS free, MBAM free, WinDefender, gridinsoft antimalware, emsisoft emergency kit: no problems.

Then I used metadefender, virustotal, jotti, virscan, webservices and only the ClamAV engine reports PUA.Win.Packer.Upx-57 (jotti and virscan, instead ClamAV engine on virustotal and metadefender reports safe).
Fprot engine (on virscan) reports W32/Felix:IN:NSIS!Eldorado.
The Symantec engine reports the file is safe (this engine is not present on jotti).

Access violation at address 1004805B in module 'dm.api'. Read of address 00000000.
Access violation at address 008E2F7C in module 'dm.resizer.exe'. Read of address 00000020.

I too am wondering how do I use the license key since there is no way to enter it. Can the developer please answer user questions regarding this issue?

Thanks, and you are correct, I did have a previous version before this one, but it was from another offer, and I did a Clean Removal of it before this install (Registry and Disk sweep). The Bitsdujour 10/26/2015 version was 2.6. Since that time, I also had versions 3.0, and 3.1.0, which was the one I had installed just before this one. For version 3.0, I had to Activate, but for version 3.1.0, I did not because the previous version was already installed and activated. Normally, during the Resizer install process, when a previous version of IM Magic Partition Resizer Pro is found, the install program has prompted to Uninstall the previous version before installing the newer version, and then the new version installs already activated.

I am anxious for each new version, because all of the previous versions have failed to be able to move an Unallocated partition on the same hard drive as the partition that has my C drive. So far, Partition Resizer Pro has not been able to move the Unallocated partition over an Eassos Recovery partition, or vice-versa. I need these two partition positions switched so I can join the Unallocated partition to the partition that has the C: drive letter. Every attempt to move either the Unallocated partition or the Eassos partition starts out fine but after some time reports an error. I cannot detect an error on the partitions though. Therefore, the Eassos Recovery partition may be the one oddball that this program has a problem with. For each new Partition Resizer version that comes out, I hope it is the one that solves the problem.

Due to IM Partition Resizer not being able to solve the problem, I have to move programs files off of the C: drive one by one, as the new versions become available. I do a Clean Sweep uninstall (Registry and Disk) of each program, and the same for version 3.1.0 of Partition Resizer Pro. I have done this with approximately 40 programs recently, successfully moving them off of the C: drive. So far, all new installs required Activation, so I expected the Clean Sweep uninstall would cause this install of Partition Resizer Pro to require Activation. This must be one of the cases where the past install hid something that got missed by the Clean Sweep process, and that would explain why there is no Activate button (or Buy button) that new users see. I actually commend the developer for removing the Activate/Buy buttons once the program has been activated. I do wish it had a Help | About area that could display the activation data though.

Regardless, no developer wants their application to have a memory error access. The first one is caused by clicking on the Bootable Media icon. After that error dialog OK button is clicked, the Create WinPE Bootable media window appears. At that point, there is no way to Cancel or close that window (X in top right) or any following window without the second error dialog being triggered (cannot get back to the basic interface). The only way to close the program is to Terminate it in the Task Manager.

it seems that the output folder can be chosen for the file "Resizer_WinPE.iso"
but then I get this error:
Error Code 1021 Error Text: ERR_NOT_FOUND_FILE

and that's it - No Help file for the Bootable media creator
or which file cannot be found

Please advise.

DiggerP Hi. like Paulo User above , I also get an error when trying to create bootable media.
The process wil start but after a few seconds stops with this:
" Error Code 600D, Error Text: ERR_PE_COPY_PCAT_BOOTFIXBIN "
Clicking OK will close the notification and that's the end of that............

No further info as how to solve this.

Please advise..
Help will be greatly appreciated.

BTW -This is on Win7-64

PS - While the description above says this:
"Please note folks: the software has been upgraded recently and it now allows resizing partition space from a bootable external CD, DVD or USB drive."

there is no info about this in the How To Guides or anywhere else....
Also no selection of USB or CD/DVD -Only the creation of an ISO file.. (to Desktop)

Brent Price Ok I have a question.. I have a drive which is formatted in Linux and your program (the free version sees it perfectly) but what I'm curious about is do you have a paid version that will allow me to edit.. umm resize the linux partition that's being unused? Oh, and looks amazingly easy to use after downloading! I think you've done a great job!!

Richard User I can't find any way to register the program in the GUI.
It "seems" like it self registered.
The Title in the Main Window of the program DOES NOT
say (unregistered) as shown in the picture on the BDJ WEBsite.

Constantin Florea @Richard User, The program does require a registration code to register it, however the reason you see it is already registered is because you may have already participated in a previous deal for this product and registered it at that time.

TJ This is a relatively older version from 2018. A lot of us have hard drives larger than 2-TB these days. Yet I see the program only supports drives up to 2-TB. Is there a newer version that doesn't have this limitation, or is this the newest version?

Richard User TJ806, The INSTALL FILE is ver 3.6.5, from late 2020. (Copyrighted 2020).
AKA: Product ver. after installation: Version 2021.0
That is from the EXE file, not the program GUI.

The "Authors WEBsite" says it is good for Win10 - multiple places.
Documentation there and at BDJ is wrong/obsolete in various places.

I ran a VERY BASIC FEATURE (basically THE embedded Windows Chkdsk)
on a PARTITION 3.4T in size and it worked for that.
Both internal physical DRIVES in this system are over 2T and are also GPT.
They are detected correctly. This is a very good sign.

Robert User I think it is registered but no way to tell. I have had IM products in the past, but during install it never mentioned it. No menu and no way to tell. And while it's installed it would be nice to know if it's registered before the deadline.

If the program is unregistered, it says in the title bar (Unregistered) and the button for registration is missing from the top buttons if it's registered. Hope this helps.

Richard User I might be able to answer. A picture on this/their WEBsite shows unregistered
in the top bar of the program if not registered.
My question a few days ago was about upgrading, which is allowed. I became
automatically upgraded and registered by simply installing the program and
following any prompts offered.
If you were not offered a registration dialog box or button, I'd say you are in the
clear.
As far as how many computers?

Loyal Customer Just a friendly note to the Developer: Please reconsider your design of the interface.
It's a nice utility, but what I dislike about it is the fixed window size.
You cannot stretch the widow or maximize it.
This would have been OK in the days of VGA or earlier, but we are in the 4K and even 8K era.
So a fixed-size window is very annoying and causes me to uninstall this fine piece of software, unfortunately.

Brian W Wow. I'm surprised at the tone of the comments. BDJ users are usually better than that. Sometimes there's mistakes. Just calmly let them know. BDJ will alert the vendor and it will typically get fixed within 24 hours and the deal extended so that you can get it.

John Elliot Slone, you click "More Info" at the end of that blue box message, then "Run anyway".

If you have an anti-virus that you trust, close out "Smartscreen" in tasks, or you may have luck turning off MS Defender - You DO NOT need it with an AV program installed, updated, & working. OMS Defender is a poor excuse for an AV, that just makes your PC run slower, if you have a good AV.

IM-Magic is a nice program, I have used it for many years. Some copies are from here (from BD), and some others I had purchased elsewhere in the past.

My only BIG problem with it is its fixed size of the interface window, or GUI.
You can't resize it. I hope this can change in a future release soon.

cait User I have used this program for years, but now the new updates for windows has put that dumb smart screen back up and I am unable to get rid of it. It blocks your app from installing. I have disabled Smart Screen so many times, but it just keeps coming back. Just wanted you to know, Windows Defender will block it.

nh Very few software vendors offer a purchased license for life (unless paying specifically for a lifetime license).
Usually a purchase is for 1 release (version) or perhaps two.
But you're going from V4 to V7 ...

Got to admit though, they don't exactly spell out the license terms for a purchase.
