What are people saying about InstantMask Pro

gail f This ROCKS! Has anyone else tried it? Very simple to use...something I always wanted but Photoshop was WAY too complicated. Very fun to do! I can't wait to purchase.

Marek M Could not pay on Plimus with Visa when using Opera 10.10.
Error message: Incorrect verification code of the card (absolutely incorrect - I tried 3 times entering all info and it WAS correct).
Finally paid with IE 7.0

Another strange thing: there was no field to enter the name on the card, which used to be there (if I remember correctly).

VW Gaines There is no undo in this program. Also, I got a lot of grey lines around my mask. I had to manually delete them. Quite a pain!

Victor Zaguskin Hello,
This is the program author. Thank you for comments!
Gail, thanks for your positive feedback!
Marek - thank you for persistence. I'll pass this info to Plimus so they can fix it. I think you enter your name at the first page of the purchase process and then move to card details.
VW - thanks for the comment. We plan to implement undo soon. Could you please send us a screenshot of grey lines so we can understand what you mean?

gail f Love this little program! I am not super-technical, and this has done the trick seceral times. Have cropped pics of the kids and made transparent to drop on other pics, and have also inserted their cropped pics into cool backgrounds.

Glen Hilton A useful and straight forward masking app though it still falls  short of  some of the features and alternatives including Recomposit which was offered earlier this year on BDJ. The keyboard shortcuts for  brush size and intensity are well thought out and simple to use though the brush smoothness and image edge mask brush application especially at higher magnifications requires some further fine tuning. The black edged brush can be difficult to see on dark backgrounds, and remember last folder would be useful. Compared to Akvis Smart Mask and Fluid Mask 3 this is a very good  buy on deal day and it works well enough for simple masking tasks.
Aug 28 2010 at 10:28pm Copy Link
Ryan Smyth Impressive. I just bought this for a neighbor and decided to give the trial a quick try. If anyone wants to have a quick look at some results, I've posted some of my Facebook profile pics with the .   It was extremely easy. I generally use Photoshop for this, but for those not proficient in PS, or wanting to fork out the huge amount for it, this does the trick nice and quick. I'd recommend this as being what most people really want and need. I'm quite certain my neighbor will be quite pleased with it.

Ryan Smyth That's the original, which incidentally shows my halo, and thus proves once and for all my holy righteousness and divine inspiration! Here's the InstantMasked one: (Couldn't upload it for some reason.) It took no time to get done. I'm actually going to buy a copy for myself as well because it's just so much faster than doing it in PhotoShop.
Sep 1 2010 at 12:18pm Copy Link
Nico Westerdale Due to the overwhelming response Clipping Path Studio Software has agreed to extend this deal for another day - Enjoy!
BitsDuJour Admin - Sep 1 2010 at 5:00pm Copy Link
Jerry S I own this product and I think the developer is very sincere and well intentioned. But take a close look at the photo posted by Ryan. Notice that the edges are very rough and "jaggies" are clearly visible. There is no mechanism for anti-aliasing or feathering to smooth the edges.

In short - and I mean no disrespect to the program's author - this program does not deliver anything near the results of a properly used masking program such as that found in Photoshop and many other programs as well as many third-party applications. Over time, I believe the author will increase the quality of the program, but right now it is strictly for "quick and dirty" jobs.

Sep 1 2010 at 5:12pm Copy Link
Ryan Smyth You can probably get a bit better results as I did it quite quickly, but yes, it certainly could use anti-aliasing or feathering as you mention there.

If you're working with a full resolution picture, then size it down, those will become less prominent. For cheap, that can be done in Irfanview or the GIMP.

But for quick & dirty, and for $15? Sure.

Remember, Photoshop is $700 to $1000.

That being said, it's not viable for professional work. It's a strictly "at home" utility.
Sep 1 2010 at 7:11pm Copy Link
Louis H I agree with Ryan.

There are times when I want to experiment and see how something might look, but do not want to take the time to work it up in a more professional (and time consuming) fashion.

This app gets the job done quickly and if the results are what I am looking for, then I can go back and take the time to use another app to come up with a more professional result.

And then sometimes I simply want a rough "quick and dirty" look to begin with.

Either way, for 15$, this one goes into my toolbox.

DrTeeth Where is there a comparison between the pro and free versions?

Feb 8 2011 at 7:17am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin We are going to deprecate the free version soon. It will still be available at the site, but it seems like we don't have enough resources for its development. That's why the Pro version is currently MUCH more advanced.
The most significant advantages of a Pro version compared to the old free one are:
1. Generally better cutout. More advanced algorithm is used.
2. More advanced process - interactive preview, additional tools, more control on tools properties.
3. Edge smoothing - the edges look really natural with the latest versions of the product. And you can configure the strength of effect.
4. More options for background choice - free version only supported white, Pro supports any colors, transparency and also collage mode with another pictures.
5. More file formats for input, .PNG output vs JPG only in the free version.
6. Lots of bugfixes and minor improvements that have been done during the past year only for Pro version.
7. Mac version - we offer only Pro for Mac.

This deal gives a good chance to get a Pro version almost at free's price, so I don't think settling with the free one would be a smart choice at this moment.

Andrew Griffiths How is this different/better than background remover in Office 2010?
Feb 11 2011 at 3:31am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Andrew,
InstantMask Pro offers some additional features compared to Office,
like foreground/background brushes for fine tuning, collage mode, zooming, choosing the background. I think Office is more for preparing illustrations for documents while InstantMask Pro is for editing photos.

Thank your for comment, I think we'll do the next video without the music.

M O Victor

Sorry, had a very long day at work and am too tired now to send screenshots, I'm afraid. But thank you for the offer.

I'm not sure what the "Undo" is supposed to undo, but I hoped it would undo a small error I made with the Marker, where my hand slipped on the mouse for a second.
Feb 11 2011 at 10:57am Copy Link
Glen Hilton Hello Victor. The undo function appears to have a few intermittent memorizing lapses with one action rather than several or all and editing the edge of image still has a few issues with larger brush sizes. Just tested your latest offering against a couple of good masking plugins including one that was offered on BDJ last year and the results were surprisingly similar using a few simple images which would suggest that yours is very good value here as a stand alone. Some of the alternatives still have far superior options and are better and easier to use for detailed images though for a low cost alternative InstantMask Pro produced nice results on the images tested. Looking forward to continuing improvements.
Feb 11 2011 at 2:37pm Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin M O,
Thank you for feedback. Sure, Undo is supposed to work for markers. We'll do more testing for this feature.

Thank you for detailed feedback. The brush really works this way - it combines several moves and applies them altogether. That's why the undo action undoes the whole queue. Making a good brush is a surprisingly complicated task and of course we may have some bugs there.
I agree with you that our product is a low-cost alternative for the top level tools at this moment. But as you've said we've already reached good quality of the main feature and continue adding the options.

Jul 14 2011 at 8:14pm Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Tazzie,
No, the same version 2.7 is listed this time. We haven't released any updates yet.
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jul 15 2011 at 3:34pm Copy Link
HJ B I have installed this program twice (Win7 64bit) and in both instances, after installation, it tried to automatically start the program but could not do so, and a "could not execute file" message was displayed. I went to the installed folder C:\Program Files (x86)\InstantMask Pro 2.7, and found a number of files, but the only executable was the uninstall file.
Jul 16 2011 at 1:54am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin HJ B,
Please make sure that:
1. You have free space on the drive C:
2. You don't have any anti-virus or similar software that is blocking installation.

The exe file should be called InstantMask.exe and it should be placed at the install directory - C:\Program Files (x86)\InstantMask Pro 2.7
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jul 16 2011 at 2:23am Copy Link
HJ B Victor,

I have a huge amount of space.

While I have anti-virus and similar software, no other installation has ever resulted in this error message. 9 files plus an imageFormats folder with three more files were installed. InstantMask.exe was not installed. I have now tried three times. The third time I installed to a different folder. Same result.

Jul 16 2011 at 2:33am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Hello HJ B.
I've sent you the exe file by e-mail, please try to copy it manually to the install directory. Please let me know what happens.
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jul 16 2011 at 3:10am Copy Link
HJ B Victor,

I have not yet received the e-mail - however . . .

I have installed the program on a second Win 7 64 bit computer, and the installation went fine. Unless you have modified the install page in the last half hour, there must be something on the first computer that is incompatible with your install. Strange, I have never seen that before.

I am very impressed with InstantMask Pro.

I suggest you add an undo capability to the marking tools. When using a mouse to mark it is difficult to be precise, particularly when making turns. An undo the last movement would be helpful in that regard. Fortunately, the selective restore is presently available to cure marking imprecision, but some time would be saved with an undo.

Thank you.
Jul 16 2011 at 3:21am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin I haven't modified the file :)
The installer is a standard InnoSetup package which doesn't do anything fancy - just copies the package content to the install dir and creates shortcuts.

The most likely cause of such behaviour is the Antivirus false positive - it could block the installation of the exe file. This should be seen in antivirus log then.

I have no idea what else could prevent the installer from copying tthe file.

Al Soto I downloaded the trial version.

limited to 14 days BUT unable to actually preview the file after taking the mask out?

Seems to be OK but can't really see what it does.

On pictures that have easy backgrounds it seems it works ok.

If picture has lots of details it is useless
Jul 16 2011 at 5:52am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Al Soto,
There is a Preview button that allows you to see the result before saving.

Yes, the pictures with complex backgrounds and lots of details may require more work. You need to make more marks and use brushes in some cases.
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jul 16 2011 at 5:56am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Also,
During the 14 days trial ALL features are working. After the trial ends you'll not be able to save.

Al Soto Victor,

The Export, Select Background, Background brushes and Background Zooms ARE NOT FUNCTIONAL.
Jul 16 2011 at 6:01am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Al Soto,
You have to press the Preview to enable Export, Select background, and brushes.
The process is:
1. Use markers. Mask. Repeat several times if needed.
2. Preview. Use brushes if needed .Select background.
3. Export.

InstantCutOut uses a different cutout process - a sort of automatic lasso tool that follows the edge. Yes, ut can select multiple objects, invert the selection, select holes in the object.
You can achieve all the same results with InstantMask Pro.
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jul 16 2011 at 6:35am Copy Link
Yvonne Renfrew Like HJ B, I installed on a Win 7 64 bit machine -- same result as his.

I then UNINSTALLED (not merely turned off) my anti-virus program, and then tried multiple times to install InstantMaskProSetup.

Same result. No exe file makes it to the Program Files (x86), so cannot run software.

Like HJB, I have a HUGE amount of available space.

So neither anti-virus nor lack of space is the problem. WHAT IS?

This is fast approaching the parameters of "more trouble than it's worth".
Jul 16 2011 at 8:16am Copy Link
HJ B Yvonne,

I installed it on another Windows 7-64 and it installed and worked fine in every respect.

Victor sent me a separate exe file to place in the folder that the installation program had create. (Only the exe file was missing). Efforts to extract the file from the zip container continually failed. It appeared as though an extraction had taken place, but something in my system immediately snuffs the file out and it disappears. Take the same file and extract it on a different computer, and it works.

So, I used System Mechanic to do a registry check/repair - but the same problem persisted.

I then did a safe reboot - and the exe file extracted as it should have. I then rebooted normally, and the exe file promptly disappeared, when I tried to transfer it to the InstantMask folder.

I thought, perhaps, the problem was being caused by teracopy - a file transfer program that I downloaded from bitsdujour yesterday. So, I uninstalled that program and rebooted. The same problem persists.

I have not had this problem with any other intallation and it does not appear to be occurring with other zip files or other file transfers. There is definitely something in this particular exe file that is not liked by something on this particular computer.

Thank you for reporting the situation. I'll try to investigate it more.
I can not reproduce the issue on my Win7 64-bit developer box.
I've uploaded the file separately to our server, you can download it from http://clipping-path-stud...ntMask.exe

But, as HJ B reports, he can not even extract the file from the e-mailed zip archieve. So, I don't yet know how our installer could possibly overcome this problem.

We haven't change the setup for several months and these are the first two reports of this problem. If any of you will find out more details tha can help understanding it I'll appreciate if you let me know.

Brian H Hi- I am a previous owner/user of version 2.7 (Windows) of this product. I wasn't aware you all were currently on version 2.8. Would my upgrade to 2.8 be considered "minor/free"? Also, in looking at your website, I see you also have a product called "InstantCutOut". What are the differences between what "InstantMask Pro" and "InstantCutOut" do? Isn't "masking" essentially "cutting out" a foreground from a background? Please educate me and others on this (I love photo editing and am always eager to learn more). Thanks! -Brian
Dec 28 2011 at 12:34am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Hi Brian,
Thank you for your questions.
Yes, update for 2.8 is free. Your license key will work with it, so you just need to download the trial from the site and register it. Or it may register automatically if you install it on the same machine as 2.7.

We have numerous ways of following our news - facebook, RSS, twitter, e-mail. You can use any of them to learn about the updates immedeately.

InstantCutOut serves the same purpose as InstantMask but works differently. BTW, we've recently released a fresh version of InstantCutOut, version 1.1. So for people who use the version 1.0 the free upgrade is reccomended.

The difference is the masking/cutout process provided by the tools.
InstantMask Pro - you mark the foreground and background with markers and the software automatically creates a mask for the subject.
InstantCutOut - you move a mouse close to an object edge and the software automatically traces the edge creating a so-called clipping path.

The easiest way to understand the difference is to watch the demo videos.
InstantCutOut -
InstantMask Pro -

We also recommend downloading the free trials of each product you are interested in. They are fullly functional during the trial period and partially functional afterwards.

VLM Victor, I'm a bit confused about licensing.

1. In the BDJ policy tab, it says licensed per user ... but there is no mention of a limit of 3 installations. And it says no activation is required, whereas the comments above indicate otherwise.

2. It also says major version upgrades will be charged for and will NOT be discounted. But one comment above indicates lifetime upgrades.

What's true, please?

carl thorpe I am considering buying this based on the upgrade policy stated on your website with "Free upgrades forever," since BtJ has always made it clear that we are buying the same license offered by the vendor.

I can only assume that if this is not the case, that the vendor will make sure I am refunded my purchase, as they are not delivering on the promise stated on their website.

1. It is our normal policy that you can install on up to 3 computers for 1 user. This is valid for this deal as well.
2. There is no online activation.
3. The faq page on the web site is for regular purchases. The policy for this deal is under the policy tab to the right. We promise free minor updates. We don't promise free major upgrades.

1. Yes, up to 3 computers you own.
2. InstantMask pro uses different and generally easier approach to object selection - you mark the samples of foreground/background area and the program automatically selects the object. Also InstantMask Pro has collage mode when you can combine two pictures together.

Roderick Nicolson I have just bought your product. Can you please explain to me why and how the 20% VAT money taken is returned to the country it belongs to since I am aware this is an American site and product while the VAT tax is a British tax.
I am asking because I fear that foreign companies are just using this opportunity to make extra bucks but are not, in fact, returning the money to the British revenue where it's meant to go. I've also noticed that while some take this tax others don't which again seems highly unusual. One other thing. It is normal in the UK, at least, to notify in the initial price the additional VAT costs. Especially since they are so high.

Nick Kobe Hi!

I was interested in buying the software. However, I changed my mind when you clarified the "user" license as being 3 computers. I have 1 desktop, 3 laptops, and 3 tablets. I think the Licensing Policy on Bits Dujour should be accurate. Limiting licensing to 3 computers is not licensing per "User".

Thank you!

S D Fafalios I am trying to buy the Instant mask Pro/Instant sketch bundle, but I am not having any success.
PayProGlobal is useless.
I am not sending them photocopies of my ID and Credit Card!
This is typical Phishing behaviour of scammers.
On your website pricelist you state that you accept payment through Plimus and Pay Pal . I have used these before and they are proper companies.
Why do you not deal with a proper Payment Processor?

Oct 15 2012 at 8:56am Copy Link
Roderick Nicolson SD Fafalios. I agree with you. I've had a few long arguments with companies that do this. However you should find that paypal is available for instant Mask Pro. I've just bought it myself using paypal without any problems. There's an option at the bottom of the page which offers several payment types.

Victor Zaguskin Roderick Nicolson,
We sell software through payment processors, PayProGlobal or Plimus and it is there requirement to collect VAT. Actually they are collecting it themselves and claim that they pay it back.
We receive nothing on the VAT they are collecting. As far as I understand - when Non-European company sells to Europe digital only product online it is required to pay VAT.
I agree that it would be better if we told that on our prices page, but we don't know for sure where you come from before you specify it.

We use both Plimus and PayProGlobal. PayProGlobal is primary and unfortunately this deal is only available through it.
They are both proper companies and actually very similar by the nature of what they are doing. We've been using PPG for about a year and have used Plimus even longer.
I'm surprised they've asked you a photocopy of your ID - they don't normally do that. What was the reason for it?
Anyway, PPG support PayPal as a payment option and you don't need showing your credit card details when you pay with PayPal.
Hope that helps.

Brian Jones If I may make a suggestion? the model in the screenshots is too bright - when she is merged with the London photo, it is very obvious that this is a merged image. The video example is much better.

The video itself is a little awkwardly done, but it does show that the program can do what it is supposed to.

In my opinion, $30 is too much for this software, as it only removes backgrounds - which several paint programs can also do - and allows easy merging with other images.

If it were $10 I would buy it, but even at $15 I would need to justify that purchase, given i have other programs that do what InstantMask Pro does. It is certainly easy to use and convenient, but how many times do I need to fake an image?

Good luck with the sale anyway.

Tazzie Victor,

Your upgrade terms are quite fair; however, an issue for others regarding the price may be that you do not discount upgrades. That will lead people to feel that the price is too high, especially for a limited use program.
Oct 15 2012 at 12:59pm Copy Link
S D Fafalios PayProGlobal just has no PayPal Option available.
Your website has a Plimus option.
As you say, this is quite a bit more expensive, but at least it worked!
Plimus also does not give a PayPal payment option even though it shows the PayPal Logo.
Very naughty! I am sure PayPal will be annoyed, but I won't tell if you don't.
Oct 15 2012 at 1:06pm Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Tazzie,
If you buy at full price you get free lifetime upgrade which I consider quite a friendly upgrade policy. When you buy discounted - you still get minor upgrade for free.
We don't release major versions that often and given that we sell the license at $15 here - how much should we charge for upgrade? $7?
Come on, guys, it is a software product, it is not a hot-dog.

Victor Zaguskin S D Fafalios,
Thank you for buying at full price. Actually, I'm surprised. I see the PayPal option at PayProGlobal order page and Roderick Nicolson above also said he bought using PayPal(and he really did)
Plimus has limited support for PayPal for vendors. Basically, it does not work out of the box and we would have to do some additional setup to make it working. As we only use it as a backup payment processor we didn't bother.
Clipping Path Studio Software - Oct 15 2012 at 1:23pm Copy Link
Stefan Hauber Yes, I'm wondering about the different policy between the regular price and BDJ-price.

I think this is the first product, which makes differences between a BDJ-discounted-price and the regular-price.

A lifetime-option of other vendors often costs about 1,5-3-times as much as the product without free lifetime-upgrades, so this is no real 50% discount, because we get not the same as buying regularily. Perhaps it's even not any discount at all...
Oct 15 2012 at 11:29pm Copy Link
denis morrow I bought this through PayPal without any problem.

I was disappointed to find VAT added on at checkout. VAT only applies to companies within the EU supplying software to consumers within EU countries and is a Europeanwide19% not 20% (20% is british rate for British companies to British consumers). Companies outside the EU are not EU VAT registered so can not collect EU tax.

I am however more concerned with your statement that software is limited to 3 PCs. I bought it through BDJ site so went by BDJ policy (paragraphs 2 and 3) which states 'per user' and transfer to 'another owned computer is allowed'. No mention of PC limitations. I have only one PC which is almost 7 years old, so I dont expect much longer out of it, as its virtually obsolete. Are u saying if, and when, I get another PC and, for some reason, it bites the dust, I am left with one more installation?

About the product itself, other software can do similar mask cutouts, but this on can save as PNG with the transparent background so you can keep it for a later use. Doing it this way you can save several individual cutouts and put them on the same background. I find the cutout mask on this product easier to use with cleaner edges.

Apart from your 3 PC policy, I recommend Instant Mask.
Oct 16 2012 at 1:21am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin denis morrow,
About VAT - any software reseller that I know collects and repays VAT when selling from outside the Europe to Europe. For example here is a thread on Plimus community where they provide explanation:
If you still think wrong rate was charged - please contact PayPro customer support on this matter, we as a software vendor working through the reseller don't deal with that matters at all.
Regarding the licensing and the old PC - no, it means you can use it on 3 PCs, so when you upgraded your old PC to a new one and reinstalled you still can install on two more computers.

Preston Mitchell InPaint vs InstantMask -- Both Rate 5-Stars

I own both programs. Both perform opposite functions. So, a comparison really does not apply.

InPaint removes unwanted objects from backgrounds.

InstantMask removes backgrounds from objects, thereby cutting out the object.

That is how I use both programs...and each program performs their function well...not as well as Photoshop does...but with a lot less effort than with Photoshop.

InstantMask is a worthy and useful photo editing tool. And Victor personally provides great tech support.

J S Hi Victor, For what it's worth I'll add my 2 cents worth:

Can I buy the program: 1. As a GiFT?, or 2. Licensed in a name different to what is shown on my Credit Card?

Looks like a big fat NO to both 1&2 using, because there is no box on the form to submit the buyers NAME - as displayed on the credit card or a different address etc. [Why a different name? well perhaps Your family have always called you by your middle name or just by your initials eg. PJ etc.]

For that fact neither does PayPal.

So it means tedious emails back and forth to the Vendor to see if it is possible to make such changes and as some sites are literally 1 person businesses, many refuse to do such things (such as XYplorer to name but one example).

There ARE purchasing systems out in the ether mists of the world wide web that DO allow different names &/or purchasing the product as a GiFT and even sending it to the recipient automatically, &, most of those systems allow the License to be in a name different to what is shown on their credit card.

Bitsdujours system seems to normally allow such options & GOOGLE WALLET a.k.a. GOOGLE CHECKOUT allows - and I'm not financially assosciated with either company except as an end user. (b.t.w. Your alternate system PLiMUS doesn't allow purchase as a gift or a different name)

Finally InstantMask looks to be a good product AND a big thanks for mentioning that Lifetime License including major upgrades (v2, v3 etc) is available for full price - which is probably the way I'll buy it UNLESS todays offer happens to include a free upgrade to version 3(?) [but what happens if somebody has a coupon that works with PayProGlobal or PLiMUS links on your website?].

Thanks, J S

Yes, I read the fine print, and considered that it was for this discounted offer, however I wondered if the upgrade policy has changed for the software and was hoping for a comment from the developer.

I trialed InstantMask Pro and am quite impressed with it so I made the purchase. However, when it gets even better in future upgrades, this doesn't seem like such a bargain when there are no discounts for upgrading, as per the fine print or on the website, wherever I read it, and lifetime upgrades now is only $15 bucks more. :)

Zoran Paljevic Hmm..

Interface is very bad, first of all..

Why pencil? Why should pencil be there, why not circle which should show exact position and diameter? During the marking we should frequently change diameter and as I see that's possible only by going to preferences, a bit to much if you need to change marker diameter swiftly. It should exist simplest diameter slider in the toolbar.

Am I missing something? Is there hot key to do that?

And then it crashed.. It cannot lift 6000x4000 in time, you must wait it to process..

I see people here ask about lifetime upgrade but I have strong feeling this software is same long-long time now. Am I wrong?

Too many after purchase questions, sorry.

Hi. The regular price for this software is $30, here it is special for $15. What I meant was it seemed to make sense to pay full price to get lifetime updates instead of paying $15 for version 2.x and only getting minor updates. Especially since it is now at 2.8 and seemingly not far off version 3.x. And as Zoran commented, there is certainly room for some substantial improvements which could likely be implemented in version 3.x if the developer is moving forward with it.
It would have been nice to get some input from the developer, but he seems to be ignoring us. :)

Is that correct??? and if so, is the $29.95 the regular Price of this software ???
Feb 27 2013 at 11:07pm Copy Link
Zoran Paljevic @Victor Zaguskin

Well that change a lot, hotkey is perfect.

I was practicing a bit and I like it but pencil "must go" :) it's irritating at least.

For example, I use similar brushes in a single move holding left click.. In that case pencil is just taking space and attention. It would be good to be green or red dot respectively which size should change according to size of the marker.

The reason I mentioned updates in such a context is that I actually tried to use this software long time ago and I know that something I didn't like., when I saw pencil now I said: "Oh, not again.." so I probably dropped it few or several years ago because of pencil. I knew something did not change at all.

Thanks for the answer.

Thanks for report. I'll check that.
You can look at preferences menu and check the following:
1. Is there a checkbox "same size for all tools" checked and checkable? If yes, uncheck that.
2. If you change the tool size via preferences - does this work?
Clipping Path Studio Software - Jun 23 2013 at 12:41pm Copy Link
Jim Mayall 1. not clickable and off, but seems to behave like it is on.

2. Sort of. After playing with it a little, it seems that the foreground brush settings are always used, whether set with shortcuts or the keyboard. When I size the background brush with shortcuts, it jumps to the size in preferences and indeed sets the right values. But when you use the tool it uses the foreground brush size.

A sidenote, it doesn't show the value when sizing using shortcuts like it did in your video on Windows.

Victor Zaguskin Wild Wizard,
We'll likely run the promotion of Ultimate at some point, but no specific date is set yet.
We cannot run any other promotions in parallel with this one. But personal discounts are negotiable. Also, if you own any of our previous products - we can suggest an upgrade price.

Greg Smith Yesterday, 1/10/2014, I tried to buy InstantMaskPro. The transaction screen "hung" - but my credit card shows a "pending charge" through PayPro Global?
I never received a confirmation e-mail, or license key.
What do we do now?

Preston Mitchell InstantMask provides a fairly simple and effective way of removing backgrounds from a photograph.
I tried InstantMask Pro and InstantMask Ultimate.
The developer has been around for awhile. He produces rock-solid stable software, which installs nicely in XP SP3 x32 to Windows 7 x64 (never tried it in W8).
The Ultimate version is better. It provides some tools that help to refine the edges of complex areas, such as hair. I bought it.

Is InstaMask perfect? Yes and no.
If there is a noticeable contrast between the subject and background, InstantMask does a very good job. When the colors of the subject and background are too similar, the results can be dicey. However, for casual non-commercial work, the results are always more than satisfactory. Plus, it is a lot easier to remove backgrounds with InstantMask than with Photoshop (which I still use when dealing with a tricky background and requiring highly professional output).

InstantMask's main competitor is InPaint by Teorex, which also does a pretty good job too. InstantMask is slightly better but costs more than twice as much. So, normally, I'd buy InPaint...but InstantMask at today's price is the best deal.

Chris @ Preston Mitchell

Inpaint is an object remover, not a background remover. Teorex does make a background remover which is called PhotoScissors, which I think works alot better then Instantmask. I happen to own all of these as well.

Also, I believe this version has been abandoned as I purchased version 2.8 two years ago and no updates since then. I believe the ultimate version has taken the place of updates for this program.

skbryan Has the problem with this program crashing when editing a large file (5mb) been fixed? This is a major deal killer.
Apr 22 2015 at 5:52am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin InstantMask Ultimate still can fail with big files - this can only be fixed in the new update that will be released in upcoming weeks.

InstantMask Pro 3.0 should be able to handle larger files - please check the trial version on the files you'd like to process and report us in case of any failures.

rod User why is it so difficult to cut a square item out, my 16 yr old paint shop pro does a better job than this, why is there no easy way to correct this, 30mins into trying to block a neat square on to a white background im over it, thank god for trial versions.

User1 Does buying this today entitle the user to a free upgrade to the new version in three weeks?
Thank you.

Joe M User1. "The Fine Print" states: Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product.
So I am assuming that the answer to your question is yes.
Apr 25 2015 at 9:11am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin User1, Joe,
Correct, the answer is yes.

Victor Zaguskin rod User,
Thank you for the feedback.
I'd appreciate if you send a picture that was difficult to cut out with our software - we'll include it into our test base and will use it at next polishing cycle of our processing algorithm.

Chris @ User1 ~ The update will be for the ultimate, which has no discount today. The Pro version offered here is now 3.0 as they just updated it recently.

@ Victor Zaguskin ~ Will you be offering the ultimate at a discount?
Apr 25 2015 at 6:05pm Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin Chris,
I think we'll offer Ultimate here at some point, but no specific plan yet.

skbryan Has the issue been fixed where it crashes on large photo size? Thanks.
Oct 1 2015 at 5:23am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin For InstantMask Ultimate - yes(but only 64-bit platforms are supported)
Clipping Path Studio Software - Oct 1 2015 at 8:13am Copy Link
Neo Alive @skbryan So this version crashes on large photo's? Then why should i want to buy such version?
Oct 2 2015 at 1:21am Copy Link
Victor Zaguskin @Neo Alive, skbryan has reported the issue with large files for InstantMask Ultimate previously - that one has been fixed. InstantMask Pro has never had this issue. If anyone has problem with InstantMask Pro not opening files properly(or any other problem) - please report us and we'll provide a fix. I'm not aware of any bugs in InstantMask Pro regarding opening large files.

D Rogers If we isolate a person with a transparent background, can we save it as a png file to paste that person into another picture? Or is that only available with the ultimate version?

In this way, the person can be resized and placed exactly in the part of the new picture where wanted. It seems that your pro version used to have this function, but now it is only in the ultimate?

CFGuy For CPSSoftware, I an a current owner/user of "InstantMask Pro", but I understand from the CPSSoftware website that there is an "Ultimate" version of this program available, as well. Would you please explain the differences between the "Pro" and "Ultimate" versions, and is there an "upgrade fee" that the current owner/user of the "Pro" version can pay in order to upgrade their "Pro" version to "Ultimate"?
If someone wold be so kind as to address thee questions before this offer expires, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. -CFGuy.
