What are people saying about IObit Software Updater Pro

David Mescheloff I've tried the download several times, both from here and from the email I received. It has not worked at all. I received the "download" notice, that says "Your download will start in a moment. If you do not see it click here." So I tried the "click here" several times, too - and that also hasn't worked!

David Mescheloff Great news is wonderful ... but the download still isn't working! So just how great could this news be?

Thomas Walters so...since we are getting no direction I decided to try something. Go to IObits site and download the free lower right corner there is a little link called "enter code" it and enter the code you hopefully were sent fromBitsDuJour. It is in the email - a serial code...worked for me

David Mescheloff Thanks for your suggestion, Thomas Walters! I followed your instructions and everything seems to have worked out all right. I did find it strange, however, to note that on the IObits site this program is sold for $9.99, while here we are told that it's free instead of costing $12.97. Oh, what an honest world we live in!!!!

Hamza User Warning, the program contains a virus

Constantin Florea @Hamza User, That is actually a false positive because all the other major antivirus systems did not detect anything.

Brian W Please respect us and post as "6 month free trial" not "100% Free." Anything less than 12 months free is a trial.

Randy User @Brian W:
What? Name ONE decent, popular subscription software these days with THAT LONG of a trial? Six months, a half a year of 'trial' ???

Peter Blaise This can't even update IObit's own software to the current version, it updated my version of IObit Driver Booster, then when I opened it, Driver Booster said there was an update available, so it still wasn't at the current version. It's easier to update software from within each software itself and have a chance of getting the latest version. Plus, this installed iTop Screen Recorder, Screenshot, and VPN which I had to uninstall, manually, very tenacious, IObit Unistaller Pro left many files behind. The non-pro version of IObit Software Updater allows only 2 updates a day, bit if that NOT to current versions, what's the point? IObit is usually pretty good, but this surprises me, especially concerning this program's inability to update IObit's own software.

Randy User That's your subjective opinion but mine is different, in that it works well for the typical programs I use: Piriform Defraggler; AOMEI Partition Assistant; Wise Program Installer; Foxit PDF Reader; Glary Utilities PRO; IranView; WinRAR; Microsoft Silverlight; Microsoft Edge; Google Chrome; Mozilla Firefox; PowerISO; Windows Repair; Microsoft.NET Framework; to name a few ..

Robert Patterson Peter Blaise, In the past I've noticed the same with IOBit Software Updater. However, I determined that Software Updater DOES update to the newest version, but it does not tell itself that it did the update. It will tell itself the next time it checks for apps that need updating that that software is up to date. If, when the app says it needs updating after you have updated it, telling the app to update itself will result in a message that the software is already up to date. IOBit probably should make the software updater also tell itself that it is updated! But once you know the behavior, it's not a problem.

Also, you should always read each screen when you install any software. Most of the software (especially free software) I've installed in recent years "offers" to install an additional app (or two or three) and most are 'checked' to default to installing them. One must check every line in the screens that come up when installing to be sure to uncheck those 'generous' offers. I learned this the hard you have today. I know, it's a pain in the butt; but I don't think our complaining is going to change it.

Peter Blaise No, this IObit Software Updater actually updated IObit Driver Booster to LESS THAN the current update, when then I went to IObit's website, there was a newer version, this is not a "synchronization" error, it was a failure to update to the current version of IObit's own software.

I like a variety of installers, IObit WAS useful, but is now way down on my list, note that FoxIT PDF v10 has no printer, so I only get v9, same with other installers where newest versions LOOSE features and we really want older versions ( TeraCopy v2, Auslogics Disk Defrag v8, and so on ).

Some installations end up in Program Files, some end up in the user's APP directory, so we can get 2 versions installed at once, they may be the same or they may be old and new versions, and they may argue with or be ignored by other program installers and updaters, IObit Software Updater does NOT resolve multiple installs nor control installs.

And, again, this auto-installed other programs ( ITop suite ) beyond the intended indicated programs AND IObit's Uninstaller failed to remove those additional programs.

Compare this to free Ninite and free PatchMyPC ( Glarysoft's NOT free SUP Software Updaer Pro no longer works ).

I recommend that IObit take another look at the environment where they are installing and resolve ambiguities AND resolve updating to less-than latest versions, especially of their own programs, and NOT install side-care programs like the iTop suite.

This version has too much misbehavior for me to trust it, though it might be useful as an installer on a new setup, but if it does not find the latest version of programs, then we have to update immediately after anyway, so why bother?.

Thanks, IObit, but keep trying.

Alexandre Emeriau Hi,

The product gets better and better to update software.
On the other side, it introduced 3 problems that block adoption:

1. Some non running programs are updated and then are launched while they should be non running just as before because no user ask them to be running. A silent update is needed in most cases.

2. We should have the option to not update running software while a work is on going on them. The update should wait the software is closed. The user could define a list of running software that can be updated even if running for the ones that have no consequence on the service they bring.

3. The option to define another list of software having scheduled tasks and for them a confirmation to update should be needed. If update is done for them, then they need to be launched again after the update.

Will these problems be resolved?
PS : some IOBIT software are not recognized for update, like iobit unlocker for example. It was the same for defragmenter.

Peter Hello Alexandre

Some years ago when I started to use this program I had the same problem but if You go to the settings You can change everything and after scanning to searching updates for programs, in the list, You can uncheck this programs which You don't want to update. Sometimes if updating programs they are opening automatic and it doesn't matter if it is silent update or normal. It is just because some program need to be restarting because of overwritting files that must to be updated to work correctly and rather depend on developer of that program how will be working in this moment. There is a program for example that I can't updated in this way at all only direct from the program menu and moreover this is freeware furthermore the paid applications create problems with updating by third party programs etc. Hovewer, If we: the Users, having many maybe useless programs we can either uninstall them than squirrel away.
Apr 24 2022 at 8:45am Copy Link
Alexandre Emeriau What i see in the settings is only an ignore list.
This won't solve any problem described or cover suggestions of solutions.
Apr 24 2022 at 8:54am Copy Link
Peter Gabriel Anyone thinking of installing this program should be aware that it also installs various other IOBit programs without permission. I would advise to stay well away.
