What are people saying about Jet Screenshot

Brenda Adams This is another software that I use almost daily! Been a year or so, I think, maybe longer. I have used other kinds, but Jet Screenshot is the one I gravitate to the most--I like the different ways to save and I like the shortcuts--very quick and convenient--never leaves me befuddled. Never complicated. It's a good deal. :)

Warren Russell I don't see anywhere on the page where this is mentioned, but based on the publisher's site, I assume that this is not a purchase, but a one-year subscription. That's what $14.95 gets you at the site.

Am I right?

Roman, ArcticLine Warren Russell, yes, you are. This is one-year subscription.

Roman, ArcticLine Alan, to register Jet Screenshot, you need to have account. You can register Jet Screenshot to your account and change account's email when you need to transfer license to your aunt.

I can change the quantity to 3 but when I update cart, it goes back to 1.

Alain Lesage If I purchase the so-called subscription, will the software stop working a year from now?
I understand I will not be able to upload to ArticLine servers after a year; but will I still be able to save screenshots locally and upload to my own FTP server, if I do not renew the subscription next year?

Steven Avery Hi,

At the moment playing with zScreen or the combo of Screenshot Captor which works with zUploader.

With JetScreen the integrated upload is to one server only http://my.jetscreenshot.com/ (other than FTP) .

On the other hand, this might allow for tighter integration such as the way it places the share link into the clipboard, which is a weakness of some programs. You really want that info immediately available if you are doing a quick pic and share.

However, we are, as Alain points out, more or less stuck with an ongoing subscription with Jet. Or switching to a FTP mode that is not tight communication while losing or moving the existing body of work . So unless you like the program a lot and see the likelihood of staying in subscription mode as pleasant, this is hard to put on the front burner.

Shalom,
Steven

Steven Avery Hi,

Understood. Taking quick screen pics to send out is common. This program tries to make it exceedingly quick and comfy, and the cost is small.

For something in the $1 a month range, if you are going to use the tool and get things done nicely, it fits a great niche compared to the normal headaches ("take a picture, fudge with the annotation possibility, download to a file, send an email, navigate the path, make it an attachment, etc")

Some of us have been playing with tools that seem a bit more versatile and hefty (e.g. ,multiple uploads, different types of uploads to different places) so the nice comfy action of Jet might get in the way. It is hard to have more than one basic tool in this area. Whether it is Jet Screenshot, or SnagIt with Jing, or ScreenshotCaptor with Zuploader or ZScreen with ZUploader. Any of these alternatives (some free, some not) is better than struggling and Jet seems to be pioneering the simplest ease-of-use for many of the standard pic-and-send-and-share possibilities.

If you use it, like it, and it is going to help you, then it is a good find.

Shalom,
Steven

Tazzie Sorry to be late to the party, but I figured, better late than never.

Stephen has some good points, and in fact, a program I have that I purchased here on BDJ, CrossGL SnapDraw, can do pretty much what Jet Screenshot does. It can take just about any kind of screenshot quickly, annotate as much or as little as you want, and without having to save it as a file first, you can save to clipboard or send via email, to FTP, or to Twitter, or to all three at once! It has a lot of other features that are worth looking into.

If you want these features without the hassle of a yearly fee, then you can pester Roger for a rerun of the CrossGL SnapDraw deal. Otherwise, Jet Screenshot seems like a good option for a streamlined program that does what it says it does. Of course, the cost does go up, depending on what options you want, but considering that you are also paying for the web space and convenience, not a bad deal. For those who still want the quick and dirty option but not the yearly fee, Jet Screenshot also has a Free option that has the bare minimum of features that are sufficient for some jobs, esp when you're in a hurry.

Roman, ArcticLine Thank you everyone for comments.

Alan Sawyer, the license is connected with email address and it's account on my.jetscreenshot.com. It means, that every persom need to have separate account and separate license.
To buy several licenses, you need to create several accounts first.

Alain Lesage, the software works lifetime even without paying (in free mode). When you pay the license fee, you activate paid features on the term of license. When the license is over, paid features are deactivated. FTP upload is one of the paid features.

Tazzie @ Roman ... tying a license to an email address could be problematic for those of us who use different email addys for different purposes. I would want to use screenshots with more than one email addy, so this could be a deal breaker for me if I really wanted to be able to do so.

Tazzie @ Roman .... I'm sorry ... I had reread my post and thought I deleted it, and didn't realize it went through anyway. I went back through the process for Jet Screenshot and realized that the way the program works, the email addy was just for setting up the service, and there should be no problem using more than one email addy while using the program. I should have done the checking before I typed up the post ... I apologize for that, and just ignore what I wrote while I go wipe some egg off my face :/

Software Guy Beyond the online storage, this software seems more polished than the freeware alternatives screenshot captor and crossGL's SnapDraw.
Wondering if you have any future plans for timed screen shots?? What I would really like to see is timed screenshots with saves to disk, and a second set of timed screenshots uploaded but on a different timed schedule (concurrent). Granted, perhaps a small market, but snagit has timed uploads and sweet16's icy screen is built around the concept.
At any rate, your concept is the easiest for sharing screenshots. Hopefully you will consider the timed screenshot saves. Thanks.

Roman, ArcticLine Software Guy, thank you for the idea, but can you explain where and how this timed screenshot will be used? The concept of JS is 'fast sharing' and I can't imagine how timed screenshot may help in screenshot sharing.
ArcticLine Software - Apr 7 2012 at 10:11pm Copy Link
0
Software Guy Yes, be glad to. the timed screenshot that is saved to disc is assembled into a time lapse video and archived for later viewing - you can see we are talking about video inputs here. But the uploaded screenshots are available for one or many for viewing from anywhere on anything- eg cell phone. So let us take a few wxamples - you have a 4 input video card installed to keep an eye on things-- exactly what are things??? security, the baby sitter, the perimeter of the house, the business such as a store or marina, the weather, the traffic - pretty much anything. So one can check the uploaded photo screen shot snaps to check the status of anything. Especially useful for construction sites where a number of people may be awaiting the arrival of a shipment - they can work until they see the shipment pull up and then depart for the site. At a marina one can check the status of all of the boats. One can check on the well being of pets, or the status of their house while they are on vacation or at work. the uses are limitless.
Now you may think this is easily accomplished - not so. Most dvr cards will strem to a dyndns site and you can use directx (often blocked at work) to view. and just try viewing your security system on a phone. Worse, you only get real time. With time lapse shots you can check back at, say, 1 minute intervals. Nothing of interest found then delete them with peace of mind. have a vacation house in another state with a big storm and want to check everything - easy with this timed solution. and you have peace of mind. want a record of that construction project? easy with timed saves.
You have the idea - it is for dynamic video input. The one software which I use, IcyScreen also has a motion sensor - easy to implement in software - if nothing has changed on the creen then send no updated screengrab.
I think you have the idea by now. i consider this approach superior to commercial dvrs, especially for remote viewing. With jet screenshot you are already 90% there. a few timers, maybe a motion detector requiring x percent change for a save and you are there.
What is the demand? Based on our experience, enough to make it worthwhile Every single person that has seen it and has an application wants it- and it is an area we don't want to stretchto fill. Easily beats video because it is low on resources, it is archival, saves time and gives peace of mind. Further, it is useful as a security tool. one jpg every 3 or 5 seconds saves 99% of the space required by video. One screen save a second gives a good timelapse and saves 97% of the space and bandwidth of video.
Food for thought. Keep in mind snagit and a few others have timed screengrabs.Having two sets allows maximization of the archive while minimizing bandwidth usage.
Food for thought...

Amit 1) For an offline solution as software (not talking about sending files online) - will the features of the software be gone after 1 year - ( ie. the features that are not in free version)
namely -

Advanced set of edit instruments
No Jet Screenshot logo on screenshots
Ability to put your own watermark

Means these features will be deducted from the software - for even offline use, after 1 year ?

Is there a way to get lifetime use of these all features then - like all screenshot softwares normally are ? Basically 1 year subscription is not preferable to me atleast. Atleast for software use.

2) Are both versions - standard and pro offered here ? Cant see any link to check even after clciking the buy now above button.

Chris the paid version is for your screenshots to remain on their servers. When your account goes back to free they delete your screenshots after a short period of time.

Also, this is for new customers only, which sucks.

Roman, ArcticLine Aquarius Gabriel, thank you for your rude comment.

Today we give our software for free. If you think this proposal is not for you, we don't insist on partisipating in it.

BTW, All the software, you've specified are screenshot tools. I.e. tools to create manuals with screenshot. Jet Screnshot also can be used for manuals, but the main idea is not making screenshots, the main idea is FAST SHARING of your ideas by using screenshots. So Jet Screenshot is other type of the software.

Ralph Bressler I was going to dismiss this since it is a one year license but I decided to try it. The installation was fast and flawless. I took my first screenshot, annotated it and immediately had a link to share in several different ways. Free for a year is a good deal. Also, I find myself paying out more than $14.95 for many upgrades to programs I own so this does not seem unreasonable.

As Roman said, no one is forcing you to use it. Anyone who reads the description above or goes to the website can easily determine the purpose of the program. After a year, if you don't find yourself using the service, you have several options.

Roman, the annotation tools are pretty limited. I understand that this may be the way the program was designed to keep things simple. Are there any thoughts to including more tools?

Thanks for a nice offering here on BDJ.

Julian Hadlow When the year is up, you say it reverts to the free version. So how is this crippled at this stage?

Personally, I don't entertain yearly subscriptions to software as if I run out of cash, I need to know I can keep working on my projects.

Does this send emails? Can I avoid your server? I'd prefer to send screenshots direct to my clients etc.

Paul joubert I hate to burst your your bubble, but I battled to even download your free offering so I tried your trial version. . . .disappointing !

In 1999 I downloaded PRINTKEY (free) then in 2000 I upgraded to PRINTKEY2000 (also free). I'm still using that very version to this day (Win 7)

Nothing but nothing comes close in terms of speed, ease of use and functionality, and I've tried many in my time.

Best of luck.

Phil Smithe Totally agree with the anti 1 year thing. It seems a bit unclear if the Program is usable after 1 year without the server, ie the Free version. Me too would rather have the files local and uploaded as needed to share. from that point this does not seem like the tool for me, then rather buy Snagit and use the upload feature of theirs which can link to other servers paid and free ie screencast or evernote pop to mind. So i have much more freedom to choose going that route it seems.

Hardy Smifff Dear Bits Du Jour people

I would just like to point out to you that even though I like this site and have certainly profited a great deal through obtaining 100% off the retail price of many softwares that would have otherwise been outside of my budget I concur wholeheartedly with the sentiment of Aquarius Gabriel's first and second posts, even if not with the wording used.

You have just relegated all your usual clientele to 2nd class customers who are no longer worthy in your eyes to receive today's 100% off deal because you wish to bring in fresh kills.

It is obvious to me, as it will be to most of your now downgraded customers and less valuable followers that we can just set up another Facebook account with a different name in about 60 seconds if we wanted to but that would somehow feel like a hollow victory now you have told us, your until now ever faithfull already existing customers what our true worth is in your estimation.

Yours disappointed with you,
but with as much respect and esteem that I hold for every other soul incarnated as a true human being on the plane of Mother Earth

What do you mean about "2nd class customers" and "unworthy"? Why are we "downgraded and less valuable"? Why would we have to set up another Facebook account? I am sure there must be some basis for your rant but you did not make it clear in the post!

Hardy Smifff Dear Bits Du Jour people and Roman at ArcticLine

Having thought about the statement

"Please note folks, this promotion is only for new customers."

for a while now and I was wondering if you would kindly clarify the statement as I now understanding it to be somewhat ambiguous.

Do you mean
new customers to BitsDuJour,
new customers to Jet Screenshot,
new customers to ArcticLine (presuming ArcticLine produce more software than just Jet Screenshot)
or even new customers to all of them?

My initial understanding of that statement was that we, who are previous customers of BitsDu Jour, are excluded from taking advantage of this offer.

However if the statement means the promotion is only for new customers of Jet Screenshot or ArcticLine then I, and presumably many other old customers of BitsDuJour, would be included in those allowed to take advantage of this great offer.

Yours respectfully with hope in my heart

Yes, the program is usable, moreover, you can use our server. Free version has more limits (f.ex. files are stored for 30 days, comparing to 6 month in home version), but the program is still usable.

Me too would rather have the files local and uploaded as needed to share.
Jet Screenshot can do it. For free.

@Starlight Dreamwalker
Sorry you've decided we think you are 2nd class customers. We don't think so. The idea of the current promo is to give good-enought free trial period to get new users and (maybe) buyers in 1 year. But we will consider ability to make promo for everyone in the future if it hurts our current users.

Jet Screenshot is desktop software. I.e. you can use it for EVERY window on your computter INCLUDING browser one.

Plus we have different edit tools and price policy.

Ralph Bressler @Behindblueyes I use Fireshot with Firefox. In this capacity you can upload to the EasyCapture site in a similar way to Jet Screenshot. You get more editing options with FireShot than with Jet Screenshot. Fireshot only works in a browser. To get screenshots outside of a browser you would need Screenshot. I have not compared the Jet Screenshot server with the EasyCapture site in any depth.

Ralph Bressler @Dreamwalker It has been a long time since I studied German and have not used it for many years. I believe that your post in German leaves me with as many questions as the one in English. Perhaps it would be good to leave out the "padding" and just post your questions or comments.

Hardy Smifff Dear Ralph
It wasn't a rant and it is not an unusual use of English for an Englishman born and bred in England, who gained qualifications in both English Literature and English Language and is now studying for a degree at an English university.

I was merely stating how let down and less worthy the statement "....only for new customers" could cause some people to feel.

However I did attempt in my second post to point out that there is ambiguity in that statement because it can be understood to have 3 or 4 different meanings depending upon people understanding it to be referring to new customers of BitsDuJour, Jet Screenshot or ArcticLine!

LH Reed So, according to your TOS, you have the right to take anyone's screen capture and use it for any reason at all that you want. You can even use their email address and transmit at your discretion? Your TOS sounds extremely suspect. Not to mention it's not private at all. Think I'll pass on this deal and continue using the "print screen" option on the keyboard.

no, Jet Screenshot will put watermark only on those screenshots, that are made after the program turned free again.

JMJ Squared I don't recall ever seeing so many useless, vitriolic, mean-spirited, rude, multi-lingual-babbling comments on BitsdsuJour... ever. If we have an informed opinion about the software offered, then we should sanely and cogently share that opinion in order to help each other and pay due respect to BitDuJour and to the software developers who come here to promote their WORK.

If we don't like the software or the terms under which it is offered, Okay; state the reason(s), give constructive criticism and move on.

Thank you Ralph Bressler, Paul Jubert, Carl Matteson and those others who helped better inform me.

@Starlight Dreamwalker - Among others, I am superbly fluent in the German and English languages. You managed to confuse me in both. :-) Thanks for the chuckles.

@Roman, ArticLine - I hope you wore your flameproof suit today!
I understand the need to charge a fee to maintain screenshots on the servers you have to maintain, even after the first year but isn't $29.95/annum a bit steep? At that price point, I would not use your service when I can simply maintain folders on my computer that sync with any number of "cloud" services for free, ala, SkyDrive, Dropbox, Cubby, iDrive, etc., etc.

In fact, I have several such cloud folders to which I regularly and instantly send screenshots, photos or any other file. I can take a screenshot with any of a host of excellent, free utilities, edit them with my own software and save them in the folder(s) to be synced. Anyone can instantly view those files by simply visiting one of my Public cloud folders. Of course, like with your software, I can aIso send them an email to alert them to the fact that there is something new. I maintain exclusive control of those files with no need to pay annually for anything. They are safe and secure and not watermarked *forever*.

Thank you, Roman and BitsDuJour for your generous offer and hard work but today's offering is not for me.

Best regards.

Roman, ArcticLine @JMJ Square"? thank you for your opinion.

What can I answer you? You are right, there are nothing magica in Jet Screenshot features. You can use PrintScr button, open Paint/Photoshop, edit your screenshot there, save it to Dropbox folder, go to Dropbox/SkyDrive website to get URL to this image. You also can use a lot sharing services similar to RapidShare to share the image. All this can be done for free. True.

The only reason why Jet Screenshot is better is SPEAD. Jet Screenshot can do it in 4 mouse clicks. I.e. ~10 sec. instead of 1-2 mins. Looks like a not big difference, specially if you don't share your screenshots frequently. But Jet Screenshot changes your on-line behaviour, you become to use visual explanations instead of verbal. F.ex.:
* You see something funny in the Internet. You make a shot and, get URL to it in your clipboard and them make a tweet.
* If you need to meet someone, you just make shot of the part of the google map and use arrow to point neeting palace instead of explanation of address.
* If you work with designer or programmer and don't like some part, you shot it acd draw red cross and they understand what to remove
* if you write on some forum in the Internet, where there is no ability to attach images (like here), you can avoid this limitation
See example: http://my.jetscreenshot.c...ax99-132kb

There a lot of similar small examples. It's hard to explain, it's better to test Jet Screenshot in work.

Marcus H. So it's not an official "Facebook-Only Special" but it *still* has an obnoxious "Like us on Facebook or you can't have the deal" requirement?

Why is it that these software publishers can't seem to understand that not everyone has nor wants a Facebook account and that they're alienating every non-Facebook user who might otherwise be interested in their product when they do stuff like this?

JMJ Squared My final two-cents worth: Downloaded, installed, registered, activated flawlessly and very, very quickly with Jet Screenshot guiding via email and online every step of the way.

Did a test active-window-capture which took 3 - 4 seconds from hotkey press to confirmation of link's being on my clipboard. It was. Fully configurable hotkey assignments. The software's GUI is very nicely organized, dead simple to understand and use out-of-the-box. Have not dug into the many customizations or screenshot editing facilities.

Resource usage is a tiny 8-9 MB Private Set, so letting it hang out in your Notification Area will have no noticeable impact on system performance.

Very, very nice piece of Software.

@Roman, ArticLine - Please consider incorporating a link-shortening function, preferably from the Notification Area's icon.

BeehindBlueyes So, this seems to be pretty simple. It works well for free. And if we don't want to pay for it after the year is up, and we obviously won't want the companies watermark on our screenshots, then just uninstall it.

"according to your TOS, you have the right to take anyone's screen capture and use it for any reason at all that you want. You can even use their email address and transmit at your discretion?"

It is good to know that there is such software available for the case someone is in need for this certain functionality. For me it is more or less useless. Thank you.

Btw: my simple solution for this problem would be to share the one folder with the screenshots by making it accessable over the network or upload them directly to an webserver with some kind of autosync tool.

Thanks anyway...

internet explorer Since the license is only for one year, it's not really a freebie, but rather just a long trial, and I am definitely not interested in that. I wanted to let you know to explain why I am not downloading it. Based on comments I have seen on GOTD before, I am sure that there are lots of other people out there who feel the same way. Also, it would be more user-friendly in the future if we were told up front that the license will only be good for one year, rather than waiting until after we have entered email info, etc. Thank you.

Steven Avery Hi,

Like Marcus, I find being cajoled to "like" something I have not used obnoxious, and even straining my ethics. So I simply do not do it.

Thanks for the explanation JMJSquared, and the good review. If I was going to start using a product like this, I would compare (at least in reviews) Jet, Zuploader, ZScreen, Cloudzap, Ping and a few others (my info could be a bit dated). For some uses, Jet might be the best, however it is a tuff competition specialty field. These programs do vary a lot in ease-of-use and features and flexibility and support.

The answer to the no privacy question is not really very satisfactory, it seems a little too all encompassing. A no-porn policy is excellent and understandable, but it does not mean you rewrite all the rules.

I do appreciate the why-to-use explanation from Jet. If you can do something in 10 seconds that otherwise is very cumbersome and has too many steps, it is not just that it is quicker, you may start using the feature in a daily way. That is a very legit point that people should consider.

Personally I do most of my pics with Abbyy Screenshot reader making a jpg or png that I drop into an email. In my case I don't really have a need to keep such things on a server. Today.

However, if I did, Jet would definitely be worthwhile to consider. If it wasn't for the obnoxious Facebook thing, the one year free then revert policy would be, as described .. acceptable, as long as a pay for server policy does not kick in. (Is that clear ?) And I would also test using Jet with uploading to another server. Personally, I avoid any Facebook-connect freebie.

It shows I have the free version. Yes, I did follow all of the steps given but it is not working. I probably overlooked something but I tried twice & still only show free version. Any help would be appreciated.
On another note...this has been a rather interesting comments section about this software &, based on what I read, I almost passed on this. But something about it seems kinda neat, even though I'm not really sure how much I'll actually use it.
But I'm sure that if I don't like it I will be free to remove it from my system & both myself & ArcticLine will still go about our business as if nothing happened.

Michael R. I would like a screenshot-tool to be able to make continuous screenshots in a region as soon as it's content changes (at all or by a certain percentage compared to the former screenshot).

This would be useful for webinars, slide-presentations, etc.

Perhaps it would be even possible to combine two screenshots in such a way, that small objects, like the mouse in a webinar-screenshots can be removed.

So, can your screenshot-tool do this?

Bruno Verschraegen Can someone from JetScreenshot give an indication as to why software like this is subscription-based and stops working when not renewing the subscription. This is really only valid for software that will continue to undergo regular valuable upgrades. What is in the works in terms of evolution that warrants paying for a subscription (regardless whether full-price or promo)? And where can we see a version history that would give a clue about how the programme has evolved so far? We are currently using Snagit, which seems to have several advanced features I do not readily see in JetScreenshot, but it looks like JetScreenshot's annotations have a more modern, cleaner feel. If JetScreenshot is on the path of continuous feature development/improvement, then subscription may be worthwhile. Anyone at JetScreenshot to enlighten us?

JMJ Squared This is a great Program that does extremely well what is says it will, has a great feature set and is from a very consumer-friendly company.

After one year of using it for free, they will remind you that the term is ending and THE give you another free month to renew or, if you choose not to, to save any uploaded files before allowing you to CONTINUE as a free user with the limitation that your files are saved for thirty days only. Very good, I think, for a service that has to pay for servers, bandwidth for uploading/downloading files, maintenance, etc.; all for thirty dollars per year or $14 if you catch a discount like that offered here today.

Some of the observations and complaints mentioned are not at all realistic or fair:
-- It is NOT a one year license for the software; rather the cost includes a fee to offset JetScreenshots ONGOING expenses. And it does NOT stop working.

-- Asking that this software somehow capture regions of a screen but **only** when that region changes is really, really asking way, way too much. LMAO

-- If you want high-resolution captures, save as PNG or BMP.

Great program, great company and customer service and impossible to beat today's price. Get it and say,

Thanks a lot, BDJ and JetScreenshot.

Bruno Verschraegen @ JMJ Squared

Having a second look I now understand better what the subscription is about because the emphasis seems to be on immediate sharing of a (annotated) screenshot via internet. Organising events, we make screenshots many times a day every day but only on very rare occasions are these used for sharing stand-alone. They are mostly integrated (often annotated) into presentations etcetera - so continuing to pay for a subscription would make little sense.

Yet, you say "it does NOT stop working" whereas the fine print reads "After you purchase Jet Screenshot - 12 months license it may be used for 12 months and will not function after that". That sounds like it stops working - or is there some misunderstanding that needs clarification? Do you mean one can still use the screen capture functionality after not renewing the subscription but can simply no longer use the full internet sharing function?
Mar 11 2014 at 10:45am Copy Link
0
JMJ Squared @Bruno Verschraegen - After one year (and one month grace period) the software continues to work as Free Version which still allows you to share screenshot files instantly via the web (to/from their servers). The shots are ad supported by including their logo; PNG is not allowed; editing functions adulterated but their software CAN be updated for free.

I think that, for your purposes, it may not be ideal but for those, like most of us who comment in forums, for example, it is really useful: I can take a screenshot and instantly have a link on my clipboard to that screenshot for posting, emailing, etc.

Also, to get scrolling capture, you have to go Pro. The Free, or Home version offered today, is definitely not robust enough for moderate/advanced capture needs.

Stephen Brown Is the pro version a permanent license, or do we have to pay a yearly subscription? If it is, you should consider including a deluxe pro version that maybe costs three or flur times as much, but is fully free for the lifetime of the product and beyond.

I really don't like the new model where you only get years worth of use out of software, then have to pay for it again. I don't mind paying extra for upgraded software. that's fair enough, for example, I upgraded my copy of Capture Wiz Pro from v2 to v3 then on to v4. i'm satisfied totally with that program now, so would not pay for future upgrades, unless it included a facility like yours where you can upload to a file hosting site.

I think having to pay for a piece of software year in year out with little change is a big rip off.
