Do you find yourself leaving your sensitive files unprotected because you're afraid of messing up with encryption? That if you ever encrypted a file, it would require jumping through a lot of hoops, with the end result being an encrypted file that you can't unlock? Put those worries to rest, because today's discount software promotion brings encryption that's easy enough for anyone to use - it's Kryptel Standard!

Kryptel Standard offers the ultimate data protection using encryption, with the ability to encrypt a file or folder with a single click. After that, your files are part of an impenetrable fortress! Actually, it's an encrypted container, but still! Kryptel Standard lets you decrypt everything at once, or just a few files at a time, and comes with a unique browser that lets you browse and view the contents of any encrypted container. The encryption comes in the form of the latest NIST-Approved Advanced Encryption Standard, as well as multiple additional ciphers for advanced users. You can even use Kryptel Standard to scan your hard drive for certain file types and encrypt each one as it goes. Plus, Kryptel Standard is so small, you can run it from a USB flash stick for protection on-the-go!

Several safeguards ensure that you'll be able to decrypt your files and folders when you need to. Whenever Kryptel Standard performs encryption, it performs a verification step to ensure that the file can be decrypted, and the whole process is designed in such a way as to allow you to retrieve your data even if the container is corrupted or your system crashes during encryption.

DrTeeth @ Andre

The 'fine print' says "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for 1 month". Pls, which is correct 180 days or 1 month. It is not obvious if the words 'updates' and 'upgrades' are used to mean different things or the same.

Thanks

Michael Johnsson Hummm, some encryption software stores decryption info in windows. So after a system failure and restore, your computer is no longer able to decrypt.

Will this problem be with Kryptel to?

Andre Stoeff DrTeeth: Correct is 180 days. 'Updates' and 'upgrades' means the same thing.

Michael Johnsson: No, Kryptel does not have this problem.

Michael Johnsson As you say @DrTeeth, those words can be rather confusing.

I think it is like this

Upgrade
You change from v6 to v7.
A new version beyond bugfixes.
Mostly you have to pay for the new version.

Updates
You change from v6.0 to 6.1
Not a new version, but rather a bug fix/ improvement.
Basic never calls for new payments.

And if above is correct, it will mean that within 30 days, we can get the next version for free. For 180 days we will get bugfixes and other maintaince releases.

I coulde be wrong, but I bet Andre will enlighten us.

Andre Stoeff Michael Johnsson: Indeed some vendors use this model, that is, you get minor 'updates' free, and pay only for major 'upgrades'. Works well for huge products like Windows, but for smaller products this model is inconvenient for vendors and confusing for customers.

Michael Johnsson @Andre

Lol, one can think so, but fact is many, smaller products, uses that model, that or subscription fees. Since I am a homeowner and not a company, that has been a major drawback for me. I tend to avoid those companys totaly.

This did change a few years back. I still recall times when you bought a software, you had it for life and all following versions. That changed some time during 2000, not sure what year. Now you can get limited lifetime offers around x-mas.

Take for instance SlySoft, makers of AnyDVD late 2008 they made a statement that they where going to switch to subscription. I bought theire softwares at that moment. To day, they cost around the same, but in to days value, and you only get 2 year of free updates.

Mentioned, should tho be that you can pick, 1, 2, 3 , 4 years or liftime. They still offer lifetime, but at a higher price.

This is how it looks for Macrium Reflect

Upgrade options from v4.2- Requires existing v4.2 licenses. Not Free Edition

v5 Std from v4.2 $29.24
Full price is 44.99

Sadly it is more and more subscriptions and uppgrade offers to next version.
And then they do wonder why folks download softwares from, well lets say not the developers site.
Some softwares drops a new version every year.

Last I heard was that Microsoft plans to drop a new Windows every 2 years. Good Luck, not many homeowners are going to be able to get a leagaly owned license in that speed.

If you do not use this method yet, do not start either. It will be easier for you to fight piracy that way, and peak the intresset from homeowners.
We like to know that we own what we bought. Companys may be more into leasing there softwares but not me.

Andre Stoeff a b: Use your Customer ID to get your login data for Customer Panel: https://www.kryptel.com/cpanel/ then log in and download using the links in the Licenses table.

Michael Johnsson: Yes, I know that many smaller companies use that model, but yearly subscription is more convenient for us and for our customers (especially for corporate customers). It is not lease, in fact, many customers prefer not to renew their subscription, or renew when they feel they need new features.

Richard Kennedy Installated, used the registration code, license manager shows subscription valid to 09 August 2012. Uninstalled and tried again, still find subscription valid to 09 August 2012. So subscription expired about 5 months ago?

Rick Truell "but for smaller products this model is inconvenient for vendors and confusing for customers."

Sorry, but you are incorrect. The definitions of "upgrades" as "from v6 to v7; a major change" and "updates" as "from v6.1 to v6.2; minor changes or bugfixes" are the industry-standard definitions for the terms and are used with those meanings by most companies, regardless of their size. It is only when a company tries to redefine those terms to suit itself that things become "confusing for customers", since they're expecting the industry-standard use.

Note that that does not mean that a company is required to supply both updates and upgrades for its products. If a company only wants to supply upgrades, that's perfectly fine...just don't try to redefine the terms. As mentioned, all that does is cause confusion for potential customers.

Andre Stoeff Guest Guest: "Can you encrypt a cd or dvd???". CDs and DVDs are read-only media. You can encrypt to another disk, but you can't destroy the source files, at least programmatically.

Ricardo da Pira: Indeed, that's a bug. We'll fix it asap, sorry.

Andre Stoeff internet explorer: 6.23 is a bug-fixing release. None of the bugs were critical, but one was serious enough (incorrectly computed daylight saving bias). I's recommend updating. Just install over the previous version.

Andre Stoeff Rick Truell: We think that the model "free minor versions, paid major versions" is confusing for customers, and is certainly a major pain for us as a vendor. We never tried to redefine terms 'updates' and 'upgrades' (although I must say I doubt they are that standard). They are simply irrelevant in our model.

jboothco GOOD GRIEF! Yesterday this was offered at a discount but the purchase links were broken. Today, it back with NO conversation history and the price is NOT discounted. Plus, there is NO option now to purchase the enterprice version instead of standard. Grrrr!

Constantin Florea @jboothco, I am sorry about the confusion. The vendor got back to us and replied the following:
"
We have stopped further development of our products, so they are not available for purchase anymore. We continue support for existing customers of course.
"

Based on this, we had to stop the EveryDay deal we had for this product. The current promotion page is from the last time we ran the promotion for this product back in 2013.
