Sure, the advent of computers and digital photo editing has unlocked millions of creative things to do with your pictures, but sometimes you don't want to be forced to learn editing languages or review mathematical graphs just to make a shot look the way you want it to. Thanks to LightZone, photography buffs can regain control over photo retouching and enhancement, getting things done simply, naturally, and quickly!

LightZone lets you perform many of the most popular photo tweaks and adjustments in a snap. For example, you can use LightZone to adjust exposure values in your digital photos using a simple slider. Even better, you can adjust up to 16 exposure values, either individually or as a group. You can also leverage the power of LightZone to boost overall color, correct color shifts and white balance errors, selectively sharpen or blur images or parts of images, remove dust spots and reduce the noise often found in high-ISO digital images.

Whether you work with RAW, JPEG, or TIFF images, LightZone is there to make your post-shoot production go smoothly and efficiently.

If you've ever seen stunning black and white, HDR, or high contrast photos and wondered how you could achieve the same effects in your own work, wonder no more! With LightZone, you can implement any of those styles with a single click! You can even adjust the parameters and save your work as a "Style" that can be used again and again!

Harald Vogel Hello,

thanks for bringing this great tool to BDJ. What is your upgrade policy: Does it come with lifetime license or are upgrades within a year / few month included? How much will the price for an upgrade be?

A. Goyal I bet someone from the previous discussion on Aurora is going to ask if they can upgrade from Aurora to LightZone for special pricing!

Apiwat Nutavej Oh my, When I purchased Aurora, someone ask if LightZone will ever be offered. Now it's finally here. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks BDJ and LightCrafts. P.S. Aurora and LightZone have different functions enough that I will install both on the same PC.

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello Harald, LightZone's upgrade policy is basically the same as what you see and are likely familiar with from other software venders -- major version upgrades, i.e. 1.x to 2.x, 2.x to 3.x, etc. generally come with an upgrade fee and cost less to owners of previous versions than a full purchase would for a new customer.  Minor version upgrades, for example from 3.0 to 3.1, address bugs and add features to the existing software, and these are available at no-charge. Regarding the exact prices for future upgrades, we don't typically map upgrade costs out for months or years in the future, so I can't tell you exactly what the cost would be for any specific upgrade.  As a general rule of thumb existing customers often see a 20 to 50% savings over what an new customer might pay.  However, keep in mind that this is only a general estimate and doesn't take into account various purchase discounts we offer on sites like Bits Du Jour.

Harald Vogel Thank you for your answer. After posting my question I read in you forum that Version 4 is already in alpha state. Do you plan to release it within a year / next year. Even I like your product really much I'm a private user and a little concerned buying V3.9 and in a few month have to pay the Bitsdujour/Upgrade price again to get the latest version.

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello Ash -- We do have a plan to provide LightZone discounts to owners of Aurora.  However, were I you, I'd take advantage of the Bits Du Jour incentive.  This is a pretty deep discount, and you might find it's a better discount than what we might offer on our on site.

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello Harald -- Look at it this way; even if you did decide to purchase a paid upgrade to LightZone 4.0 when it comes out, you're still getting a great deal here, and you'll get it this week, rather than a month from now.  Overall, you'll still be paying less than you would if you paid the regular cost for LightZone.  I think that's a pretty good bargain and, we're I you, I'd act on it.

Rune Johannessen Hi, is the license user- or computerbased? How many computers does one license cover?
Jun 22 2010 at 6:53pm Copy Link

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello T Raynor -- LightZone's Roxio Edition is a reduced functionality variant of LightZone Standard.  The version offered via Bits Du Jour is the full featured standard version, without any limited functionality.

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello Rune -- LightZone's official license terms are as follows: " The current End User License Agreement allows you to "(a) install the Software on one (1) computer only, and make a second copy of the Software onto either a home computer or a portable computer, provided that the Software is installed on a computer that is used by you at least eighty percent (80%) of the time that the computer is in use ."  Essentially this means we're fine if you install LightZone on both your desktop and your laptop, but we would ask you to purchase an additional license if you wanted to install the software on a friend's computer, for example.

Stefan Hauber Having read a little about creating HDR-programs in the past, I remembered I would need some pictures (3 or 5) about the same motive, which differ in some preferences (I don't remember the english name for them). Then the software can puzzle them together to create these extraordinary pictures.

Reading in your description it says you only need one picture. Do these HDR-programs something else than Lightzone or can you also combine some pictures to a single one?

David Gilmour I have been interested in Lightzone for years, have played with the trial several times, and finally took it down the aisle today thanks to BDJ.  Its unique approach to image editing has let me produce some results that would be difficult to achieve with other tools.  To name just one of the features that I love, the ability to easily modify the RAW Tone Curve can open the door to some striking tonal effects.

Light Crafts Customer Support Hello Tom -- LightZone licenses are fully transferable between any of the operating systems we support be it Windows, OS X or Linux.  There's no platform lock-in with LightZone, and you do not have pay extra if you decide to use a different OS.
