We've all spent time reading through long documents and passages in textbooks and periodicals, whether it's for work or when performing research for a term paper. Back in the day, you could use a ruler or piece of paper to guide your eyes while you read - today, most of the documents that we read are in electronic format on a computer screen, and the ruler just keeps falling off of my monitor!

Line Reader is your helpful reading ruler for a new generation. With Line Reader, your mouse pointer is magically transformed into handy reading software, a line that moves with your mouse to help you keep track of your spot in any long online document or webpage! Say goodbye to headaches and vertigo caused by constantly adjusting your focus to maintain your spot on your monitor! Plus, you have complete control over the size, width, and color of your reading line. It's a document viewer on steroids!

Ease of use, thy name is Line Reader.

Line Reader doesn't just help you read documents line-by-line. The app also helps you to keep track of entire paragraphs, such as those found in assembly steps and recipes. Just one click will flip your reading line from horizontal to vertical - just move the line from one paragraph to the next as you complete each step!

With helpful bonus features such as a Magnifier Window, Measurement Window, Highlighter tool, Side Lines, Screen Shapes and a Tag Along Window that holds important information such as appointments, memos, or pictures, you'll be amazed at the utility and effectiveness of Line Reader!

Constantin Florea Hi guys. Just letting you know that the application now has the following feature: after starting the line, you can attach/detach it from following the mouse cursor. Once detached, the line can be dragged around the screen using the mouse.

The default keyboard combination to attach/detach the line is: CTRL + SHIFT + ` (the ' character is the one on the left of key "1") however you can modify this combination to something else if you want to, see the Settings window where you can do this.

You can download the latest version of the application either from this promotion page or from the product page:
http://www.iconico.com/lineReader/
they point to the same installer. The installer you can get this way works on both 32 and 64 bit operating systems.

The 64 bit installer (which works only on 64 bit operating systems) can be downloaded only from the product page:

feral1 So can it work in multiple windows? Say multiple windows of word documents open in each?

Constantin Florea @feral1, The application works across the entire screen. You can have opened as many applications as you want and each of those applications can have any number of opened contained windows, the line will stay on top of them all.

Constantin Florea We have released a new version of Line Reader in which we have addressed the issue with the variable distance between the line and mouse cursor which happens on systems with certain resolution/text size settings. The application now has a 'Calibrate Line And Mouse Cursor' link in the 'Line Reader' tab. Press that link, calibrate the distance between the line and the mouse cursor and then press the Lock button to lock the calibrated settings. Once you do that, the issue should be fixed and the calibrated settings will be saved when you close the application. You can download the application using any of the following URLs, depending on the number of bits your operating system is running on:
32 bits:
http://iconicoblob.blob.c...Reader.exe
64 bits:

Robert W If you are considering buying this software -- I encourage you to read the link at:
http://www.iconico.com/di...7&forum=38

It seems to me that Line Reader calibration might work if in the Windows Setup -- you have a Display setting - Under Scale and Layout -- change the size of Text apps is 100%.

Any other setting of the size of the Text apps such as 200% -- seems to cause bad problems with the Line Reader alignment.

Constantin Florea @Robert W, If the size of text is 100% then there is no need for calibration because in those cases, the line will follow the mouse correctly. The calibration is required only if the text size is different from 100%. That is why the calibration was created (for all text sizes different than 100%).

We advise installing the trial version and if the line doesn't follow the mouse (that means the text size has a different size than 100%) then the user should try to calibrate the line by pressing the "Calibrate Line And Mouse Cursor" link in the application's interface. The calibration process behaves in exactly the same way in the registered and unregistered version. So if the calibration works in the unregistered version, then it will work the same in the registered version.

Robert W When I have used the Windows Display settings -- and under the Under Scale and Layout -- change the size of Text app to say 200% (something other than 100%) -- I find the calibration process -- Does NOT work. By which I mean that the distance between the Mouse cursor and the Line from Line Reader -- is too large.

I would be interested to see other user's experiences about the above.

Constantin Florea @Robert W, After the calibration took place, did you make sure to press the 'Lock calibrated values' button, so that those new/calibrated values will be taken into consideration?

If you did, would you be able to send us a screenshot of the calibration window (after the calibration process ended) at notify@iconico.com?

Vic M Well, Testing the Calibration options renders no Concrete results. I'm still experimenting with this. I have a dual screen setup. Laptop screen at 125% and the Monitor at 125%. Unless I set both displays as 100% The line will not Calibrate.

Again 2 issues.

1. 125% will not work
2. Multiple Monitor somehow doesn't seem to be registered on the app.

[Update]

So if you Manually Adjust the "Real" Screen Width/Height, it will work.

IE: Width 2048 (Considering), Real Screen Width 2555
Height 1152 (Considering), Real Screen Height 1445.

Then simply Lock the settings and you're good to go.

Hope the auto Calibrate will be fixed in future releases.

Constantin Florea @Robert Crombie, Thanks for your feedback.

There is indeed a way to set the width and height of the line up to 2048 pixels but that is only done in the registered version.

So you would have to purchase a license, register the application and then you can set up the line's width up to 2048 pixels (just drag the slider at the top after you register the application).
