What are people saying about Macrium Reflect Professional

Mitch K I do have a few questions:
\What format is the image in? Proprietary, ZIP, native format?

If a compression format is used, how much does it compress?

When you image the entire drive, does it image the whole drive (to the maximum capacity) or just the used areas?

Can the software image individual partitions?

Saul Painter Hi Mitch

1. Image files are stored in a proprietary format. Macrium Reflect uses real-time compression techniques to achieve class leading imaging times. Please have a look at this support thread for more information:

http://support.macrium.co...PIC_ID=335

2. Compression is typically 60%-70% of the uncompressed size.

3. You can choose to image sectors in use by the file system or every sector in the partition,

4. Yes, you can image individual partitions.

Hope this helps

Mitch K Hi Nick, Thank you for the quick response to my questions.

One more question: Let's say that it is time to do some upgrading to my PC and I get a larger capacity hard drive and also decide to replace my motherboard. Can I still restore an image even though the hardware has changed or will this cause problems?

I realize that this question is not really about your software, but I am trying to understand the potential limitations of disk imaging.

Saul Painter Reflect is primarily backup software that protects your data and system from hard a disk crash and accidental deletion of files.

You can upgrade your hard disk without a problem. If you are updating your motherboard then have a look here:

Hope this helps

Mike G I encountered the same problem reported by Mitch and Carl. Clicked "Buy Now", but this took me to the normal Macrium order page with no instructions on how to get the bits du jour discount.

I hope Reflect is offered again soon after this ordering issue is resolved.

xoo xoo I could not restore vista basic. what is the point to have it if you can not restore your backup. Was using the free version. But it is not free, becaue it does not do the job.

Saul Painter xoo xoo,

Macrium Reflect has no problems restoring Vista - including the free version -. The Linux rescue CD is operating system independent and restores Vista and XP. Did you look in our support forum or our tutorials?

Dick Hagemann I tried to run reflect and only got as far as getting an error message 'Error reading volume bitmap - Error code = 1. Please run 'chkdsk /r.
I did this and still get the same error message. What else can I do to get it running?

Alan Any ideas when this software will come up again?

I just started playing with the trial and so far I'm very impressed.

Would probably go ahead and buy the 4 PC license.

Thanks,
Alan

Barry O'Grady I, too, am receiving the following error;
Error reading volume bitmap - Error code = 1. Please
run 'chkdsk C: /f'

I have a Gigabyte MB with onboard RAID and two 640 GB SATA hard drives configured as seperate volumes, no RAID.
If I try to backup the other disk it appears to work OK.

Alan Still waiting for this offer to come up again on BDJ. I probably would be interested in the 4 pack + additions if it's a good deal. I currently have backup software that I'm fairly happy with so I can wait a while, but wouldn't mind getting some different software.

GEORGE GARMUS Is there any possible conflict between VMWARE'S VClone currently installed on my laptop and using the Free Version of MACRIM 5?
If it works OK what will it cost to get a supported version of MACRIM?

Many thanks for a prompt response!

Overtkill I really hope they make the Pro version available. It would be nice to restore an image to a different (new) PC.
