Adrian Williams A rebadged Rollback rx - identical layout to HorizonDatasys product. Even the video script is almost the same, remote management module etc. Which came first ? Who provides the best support and latest product ?

Adrian Williams Just to clarify - do you develop the software or do HorizonDatasys ?
Either way - it's brilliant software and good luck with the promotion. One major difference here is I see you allow the installation on a main PC and laptop whereas Horizon only permit one installation. Worth knowing if you're wanting to save money.
Or, should the policy say single pc OR laptop.

Brian H Hi- I am very interested in this product! Am I to understand that this version offers free lifetime upgrades- meaning no monthly/annual subscription costs? If so, this would seem to be a better deal than Rollback that (correct me if I am wrong here, anyone) offers upgrades only on a yearly "subscription" service. Thanks! -Brian

Adrian Williams Doesn't Genie Timeline just back up files ? - A bit like AJC backup. If so, it can't be compared directly with magicure pro as this is a 'system' backup.
Maybe AvantEdge can clarify.

Frank Stephens Brian H, MagiCure and similar products use storage space on the protected drives to keep track of changes. That gives you fast restores, but no protection from drive damage of any type or theft. Also, because it changes the way that data is stored, it has to run all the time and modifies the Master Boot Record. That can cause data corruption if other software modifies the MBR or you boot via external means.

There are many near-continuous backup products, they provide varying levels of protection. I prefer StorageCraft ShadowProtect Desktop with StorageControl ImageManager, it has too many features to list here, but most BDJ users aren't willing to pay for it. Near-continuous backup utilities can backup to external media, directly or as a replication target. A rollback-type operation is a full restore, which can be time-consuming. However, products like ShadowProtect can mount backup image chains as virtual drives, quickly. Some products like ShadowProtect can do hardware-independent restores (i.e., to a different PC), launch image chains in a virtual machine, etc.

Windows 7 backup isn't bad, and integrates previous versions from both System Restore Points and backup images. Of course, you can do a System Restore, view previous versions of files or folders, effectively mount an earlier version of a drive instantly, etc. You can do that even without using Win7 backup, you just need restore points. I do that in conjunction with ShadowProtect, which is much more sophisticated than Win7 backup.

Mike McNew The license for these publishers (including rollback rx) SUCK. When I buy a progam I would like to have freedom to use it on any computer I own and be able to reinstall it without calling the company for another "incident" ... that's why I bought clipcache pro.

I'll Skip this one ... rollback keeps sending me emails to get some kind of "license" that let me use the program for another year ... this company does the same thing. A new version is one thing, fixing bugs etc should be included.

Mike McNew The website mentions an "Annual Maintenance" fee ... why would that be necessary if you get free upgrades for life? And, again, is it correct to say that you can only install this on ONE computer at a time? No laptop/desktop option?

I am using Rollback RX and appreciate what it does, but I don't like the annual maintenance fee for a program that should include updates, patches, etc. I also don't like the "activation" limitations (but I can live with it).

MagiCure sounds promising and I may buy a copy for my laptop.

Wally L Q1. Can this be installed on a system that already has Rollback RX on it?
= = = = = = = = = =

I have just the one question that other people are asking however i'll try and explain it more fully:

Currently You say: includes a free upgrade to the next version (which will be version 10.x) fair enough and easy to understand. But i'm left thinking: Is this only for version 10 and 10 alone or for v10, v11, v12 etc

Software vendors offering a "Lifetime License" (in the traditional sense of the phrase) include major upgrades as well as minor updates FOREVERMORE as part of the initial purchase price.

Sometimes - however rarely, a vendor that offers a Traditional "Lifetime License" (such as Firetrust's "MailWasher" program which came with a Lifetime License) may offer a Special Upgrade to a new version that they charge a minimal amount for existing Lifetime License Holders to upgrade too, because the vendors says it took the developer an extreme amount of developement time and resources. Then the choice is up the the license holder to upgrade or not.

A number of vendors who promote their products through Bits du Jour offer further major upgrades to existing license holders who bought their initial Bits du Jour offering, BUT at the same discount rate - as their initial BdJ percentage, forever more.

So now to my 2nd question:
Q2. "If" only version 10 upgrade is included for free - or included in todays offering, will Myself and other buyers of todays (Dec 23rd) offering: be offered future major upgrades such as version 11, 12 etc at a genuine 60% OFF discount, OR will version 11 and beyond be charged at normal retail costs to version 11 major upgrade and beyond?

I will also send these questions to your sales email address: sales at magicuresoft.com

AvantEDGE Solutions Inc. System Restore can only restore the Windows's system files and registry, Whereas MagiCure provides a complete recovery solution. MagiCure allows users to recover their own computers and restore not only system, but also data, drivers, settings, and definitions quickly, easily, and fully, via one key stroke in 2-3 seconds.
Practically speaking, MagiCure restore the entire hard drive which includes the windows operation system, third party applications and all personal data.
It is important to remember that Windows restore will not work if Windows OS fails. On the other hand, MagiCure works even if Windows OS fails to start up as users can use a subsystem menu which loads before windows.

May 20 2012 at 9:15am Copy Link

AvantEDGE Solutions Inc. MagiCure setup takes 0.06% of hard disk space to create the baseline snapshot. Each additional snapshot takes no additional disk space other than the actual data added (changed) since last snapshot. MagiCure is not duplicating the data on PC but only keep a table with pointers to the data.

Jason Howard Obviously this is a rebadged/licensed distribution of Horizon DataSys "Rollback Rx".

I notice that the Magicure website has Build 2695405581 for download. According to the Rollback RX release notes http://www.horizondatasys...7440.ihtml this build was pre November 2010.

Since the current MagiCure build (2695405581), Rollback RX has released 3 updates, the latest (26967287695) updated May 18, 2012.

Some of these (missing?) updates include support for SSD with Trim, AFD hard disks and a bug where setup fails on systems with 8GB or more RAM. I noticed that the Magicure FAQ http://www.magicuresoft.com/support/faq explains - "If the SSD drives has the TRIM option enabled, MagiCure cannot process the disk IOs properly."

Is there an arrangement that bugfixes and new features from Rollback RX are ported across to MagiCure in a reasonably timely manner?

Customers considering purchasing annual maintenance should be made aware that if immediate (same-day/month?) access to software patches is needed, they should probably consider purchasing Rollback Rx instead. Waiting for the next "OS" release for bug features or new hardware support really isn't good enough.

garrett james I love this program!

Rollback and magic cure boot before windows before windows which is the thing that saves your bacon.

Also, it saves my present data [assuming i tell it to] even if i rollback several weeks

It is blindingly fast, no restore point has ever taken more than 20 seconds, some take only 2 or 3 seconds. I take 6 snapshots a day and on bootup. I have two computers which refuse to even run windows restore from the get go.

Manual defragmenting can take some time [ok, maybe 10 minutes for 10 to 12 snapshots so i tell Magicure to do this when I am going to bed when i remember so i do not get unexpectedly held up when i am in a hurry. or i just go pour a cup of coffee and come back and i am up; But this is no big deal. I have already used this program to save my butt on at least 6 occasions.
The largest snapshot on my system was 302 mbs, [my new baseline on a drive with 625 gbs of data, but often 200 to 1000 mb, with 1 today of only 29 mbs. The data space overhead for Rollbacks/magicure is very minimal
I have several other image and back up programs, which would create files that are several hundred GBs to save the same data i have now and are mostly incomprehensible propietary files except one that creates zip files, and another that saves incremental changes but in my process manager notices it sometimes eats up 25% of my cpu.
Not this program, sleek and fast. Pick up a copy people

and it does indeed save all the data you specify

Doug Myers Let's say you have a bad software install, bad driver install, or worse you get a virus today. You use MagiCure Pro to rollback to a previous date to cure your system.

1. What happens to those "bad" files that were sitting on your PC? Do they get automatically deleted? Or, do you now have to find them and delete them manually?

2. If you do get "bad" files on your PC, could MagiCure Pro accidentally pick up those files before you realize that something bad happened to your PC? If MagiCure captures them, would you have to then figure out which snapshot(s) had the files and then delete those snapshots?

Noggin The Nog The problem with this software, as with Rollback, is the conspicuous absence of any explanation of how it works. It is easy to understand the concept of recreating the disk by restoring it from an image file backup, and thus to know how to build a system around it, but there is no explanation here of what is happening. Is there a backup somewhere? Where? How is it made so quickly? Othewise, how can deleted files be restored? A lot of us have complex systems and are not too keen on messing about playing blind mans's buff with sotware in respect of which we have no idea what is going on or how to work it into our systems. The bottom line looks great, but such a lack of information rules it out I am afraid.

However, since AvantEDGE Solution is unable to answer my previous two questions, I think I will pass on this one.

Thanks Bitsdujour!

1. Sorry for not sending you an answer. But so many questions- sometimes we missed something.
When you rollback your system, your bad driver install or virus doesn't exist!!!
2. Sorry but this process should be manually. Bad files, virus, wrong DLL's are all software accident. You should decide by yourself, but MagiCure allow you to do that in seconds!!!

garrett james Noggin the Nod,
No reason you can not use Disk Image, Incremental backups, etc. or any other back up process or tool in addition to using this
You will simply find that you will try this first because it is so fast and with so little overhead you can set the frequency of snapshots to many times per day so that you do not lose more than a few hours work, if that.. this allows you to keep your system more up to date than you would probably do if you only Disk Image

i agree there is little explanation and the first time i ran out of disk space and went through a repeated loop of boot and reboot.. it took 2 hours to figure which options to click to break the cycle.

If i understand, the software simply builds pointers, and occasionally defrags them. It does not really Image the whole disk, or only does it once and then successive snapshots build upon that unless you decide to set a new baseline.

It simply works. For instance I was trying some partitioning last night and my system would not boot. I simply picked a snapshot 2 hours old, and voila back in business only losing the time for an extra reboot.
. Much easier than the whole disk image thing.
I currently disk image about 1 x per week or 1 x per month, but with rollback i snapshot upon every reboot and 6 times per day during waking hours. when i build up too many snapshots i simply leave 1 per day and then i defrag them to rebuild the pointers.

JW Like Diego, I too NEED the TRIM function for my SSDs, and although AvantEDGE Solutions Inc indicate above that the feature is "coming in the next version", what I don't know (at least I haven't seen it said anywhere!) is whether purchasing this 'offer' from BDJ would entitle me to receive that next version without having to pay 'again'. [If I did purchase now I wouldn't use it until that next version becomes available anyway.]

Diego SEO Well, this a great opportunity but I use OCZ drives and Windows 7 so I'll have to keep an eye on future releases in the hope that the program will support SSD drives with TRIM enabled.

Stephen Cohen 1. Earlier versions of Rollback Rx caused some problems when disk drive was defragmented. Is this still true?

2. I understand that MagicCure makes changes to the operating system, possibly including the kernel. If one uninstalls MagicCure, is the operating system fully restored to its original state?

3. I am running GoBack with Win XP SP3. Can magicCure be used while GoBack is running?

Thank you!

When I install the software on PC and Laptop does this mean the Laptop must be turned off when the PC is on, and vice-versa?
(Because when the laptop is turned on, it means the program is running in the background)

"....Each license allows installation on a single computer and a laptop, but MagiCure Professional may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them...."

AvantEDGE Solutions Inc. Windows System Restore protects system files only - NOT data, programs or user settings.
The MagiCure Software protects everything on the hard drive.
Please note, that Windows System Restore CAN NOT restore your entire system if Windows fails to start up.
Windows System Restore uses 5-15% disk space per snapshot. MagiCure use only 0.1%.
MagiCure Professional is a complete Hard-Drive system restore utility and disaster recovery solution.

AvantEDGE Solutions Inc. Hi Danny, if Windows fail to start up and you want to recover the system, you do not need to use a boot CD. MagiCure has a subsystem console/menu which loads before Windows OS. You can take snapshots and rollback the system from the subsystem console. To access MagiCure subsystem console, you would have to press the HOME key when you see MagiCure logo screen during startup.

HKP I’m using a multi-boot-system with Windows XP and Windows 7, both 32 bits, and I’m running Acronis True Image Home 2012 with Plus package installed in Windows 7. Can there be conflicts if I install MagiCure Professional in addition to the Acronis product?

And like another visitor of this site, I would like to know what I can do with MagiCure Professional if the system refuses to boot. Can MagiCure Professional create an emergency medium on CD? Or which other tools can a user got from MagiCure Professional to fix a boot failure?

Looks for the current lifetime free updates installed pc. But at the time if your pc crashes or you need to purchase a new pc and worn out, then you must also buy a new MagiCure Professional license equal on the new pc. Licence is pc bound non-personally identifiable
So I understand that if I left the policy reads.

HKP „MagiCure support one boot and multi partitions.” That means you don’t know if I’ll have to experience conflicts when I’m using Acronis True Image too. And it further means that you are not able to describe what a user can do with your software in case of a boot failure. Sorry, but this sounds not convincing to me, and I'd better stayed out of this deal.

SoftCollector Dear All,

I own Rollback RX, and have tried it extensively. Since MagiCure is essentially the same product (as per the developer's comments), my observations on its sister product should be applicable.

It is an interesting program, but with several shortcomings:

1. Speedy it is, but the small footprint is debatable. 3-4 weeks (or earlier) after the installation your snapshot will grow in size and depending on your operating system will become several gigabytes big. I have Windows XP and on my computer I have seen snapshot of 6-7 GB, so on Windows 7 expect to lose more space to the program. When snapshots get that big, MagiCure is not much different than Norton Ghost, or any other imaging software.

2. Snapshots are written inbetween other files on your Windows partition, so defragmentation becomes mission impossible. MC simply blocks defragmenters like Diskeeper and PerfectDisk. For me that is a downside, as I am a sucker for defragmenting, and I own PerfectDisk.

3. Ideally, you would install MagiCure on a big SSD (say, 256 GB) and since SSDs are not defragmented anyway, you should be fine.

4. Aesthetically the interface is, unfortunately, very simple, to say the least, and in my opinion needs a major overhaul.

5. The deinstallation of the program takes a long time, and I always keep my fingers crossed, as others have reported in the past that systems have been rendered in need of a fresh Windows installation. In my experience everything has run smoothly though.

So, all in all, it is a mixed bag. Definitely worth trying though, and then you can make up your own mind.

Kind Regards,
SC

Thank you for your comment which is really very honest.

I also own Rollback RX since a couple of years, but I used it for only a month or two and since then I got back to Acronis...

The description you make of the way Rollback RX (or MagiCure) is doing is exactly what I experienced with it.

And when I decided to uninstall it, I was obliged to a whole reinstallation of my OS...

Marc Thom Maybe different versions, or just different version names. All basically are the same software.

When I used this in the past I would uninstall this about every month.
Have a good cleanup and defrag the disk. Then make a backup image on seperate HDD in case of emergency.

Then re-install this and repeat every month or so.
In the meantime i'd use Magicure to defrag snapshots.

I just hope I don't need to contact them to reactivate every time I reinstall.

Compared to Rollback, which you'd need a yearly subscription to update to the new version this is a bargain. It's also cheaper before the discount.

Hopefully the next version released for Windows8 will be even better.

If you mess up your MBR this won't protect you as far as I know, so it can't save you from everything.

J S I already own a few Magicure Professional Licenses but I have not been able to install them yet and I have a few - hopefully, simple questions for You:

Q1. Will the existing version of MagiCure Professional work with Windows 8 when it is released in October 2012?

Q2a. You said in a previous answer (during this DEAL period "AvantEDGE Solutions Ltd Vendor - Yesterday at 8:21am") that the restore point/snapshots "... are kept in their own hidden partition" can the location or position of this hidden partition be specified during or after installation?

Q2b. Can the hidden partition be manipulated using programs such as Paragon Partition Manager or similar programs by Acronis etc.

Q2c. So that no or little harddrive space on the System Harddrive/ System Partition is lost to the purpose of storing the snapshots: Is it possible perhaps during the installation procedure, to assign (send and store) the created Restore Points or Snapshots partition to a different harddrive (for example: to an external harddrive/usb drive, OR, in the case of Notebooks which have 2 harddrives - which are becoming popular, sent to the Non-System harddrive), ?

Q3. Is it possible to overwrite the snapshots or the hidden snapshot partition by mistake?

Q4. After the program has been installed: Is there any limit to the number of Restore Points or Snapshots that can be created for example does it only store a certain number OR only keep the last 30/60/90/etc.days of snapshots?

Q5. Could you please advise me - if You know, of any Backup Software (regardless of cost or freeware) software that keeps all of the Restore Points or Snapshots, so that when you go too restore the backup all of the (hidden attribute) snapshots are also restored?

Why? Because to my knowledge it would appear that there are very few programs, apart from Drive Cloner RX and perhaps Macrium Reflect that can take a 100% fully restoreable backup or incremental image which includes all of the "Restore Points" or "Snapshots" that have been created, by MagiCure Professional.

Q6. Is the Bitsdujour POLiCY Box correct when it says that 1 License for this program is "Per Computer" (not per user) AND it can be installed onto both 1 desktop AND 1 notebook (but not used at the same time) AND unlimited installations per activated footprint?

Q7. Can MagiCure Professional because of its Lifetime upgrade assurance be installed onto a computer where RollBack RX has previously been installed and working, and then be compatible with the both MagiCure Pro AND Rollback RX snapshots?

Hopefully I'll begin installing my my Licensed copies in the next week or so.

If you dont want to answer these questions here, I understand that Bitsdujour also send you my email address so all I can say is THANK YOU - in anticipation of receiving the answers some time soon.

Bit Fly Nearly ALL "snapshot" Tools have big Problems with SSD when TRIM functionality is active (File corruption).
Is this Version of Magicure 100% safe when using it on a system with SSD and WIN7 (say: a system with TRIM) enabled ?? If your answer ist yes: Is TRIM disabled by installation of magicure (as a form of "workaround" among "TRIM-related snapshot-problems" ?

Edit: found the answer on your website:
does NOT support SSD with the trim option (an option of the SSD). If the SSD drives has the TRIM option enabled, MagiCure cannot process the disk IOs properly
.

J S If I was to buy More Licenses BEFORE the Deal period expires I also need to know the following question's answer:

Q8. What is Your companies Refund or Return Policy as none is mentioned in the Bitsdujour POLiCY BOX?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

SURELY some of my easier questions (such as Q1. is it Windows 8 compatible?) could have been answered on this page, rather than advising me to send the questions by email to your support email address.

As Bitsdujour.com send an email of this and all POSTiNG(s) to You directly including the Poster's email address, I do find it difficult to understand why I (and other's such as "PC") have to re-send the questions via an email, rather than the recipient of the Bitsdujour posting sending the questions internally to their own support department.

Regrettably and also Sadly I have Only just now read Your brief reply to my questions, so prior to the posting of this comment I did send the questions off - together with an explanatory letter, to the email address You kindly provided.

I say "Sadly" because, over 19 hours of possible response and buying time has now been lost, and in all likelihood, I wont receive any answers before the promotion expires, and, I had hoped to be in possession of the answers before the deal period expired, so that I could make some more 'informed' purchases (as GiFT's to close friends during/with the current Deal period).

Michael Burkley Is MagiCure Professional the same software as FarStone's RestoreIT? I have that on my PC now and have had good use from it (just test restores, but it's worked fine and isn't a real burden on my system). But that is a Give-a-way-of-the-Day deal that I can't replace if I re-install Windows on my drive (which I like doing every once-in-a-while.

So, it would be nice to buy MagiCure Prof as I could reinstall it later, but since I already know that RestoreIT works I hesitate to make the jump to a new product. If it's the same product under a different name that would be a simple choice.

Thanks for your help,
